Photoshop Help | Content aware patch and move | CS6

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/content-aware-patch-move.html

Good news is that we can use Patch Tool non-destructively thanks to Sample All Layers. Another great thing is to change Adaptation option on the fly after patching so one does not have to ques which option should choose. • CS6 content aware fill and spot healing smudge

    I just upgraded to CS6 64 bit under Windows 7.  I used content aware fill and the spot healing tool on CS5 under XP with no problems.  Now under CS6 they leave a smudge.  For example, if the is a spot on a vein of a leaf, now, instead of removing the spot and filling in the line of the vein I just get a smudge the size of the spot healing brush.
    Content aware fill now leaves a smudged and obviously poor result.
    Is there some new option or behavior under CS6 that I need to understand to fix this or is this simply a bug?
    Thanks for any and all help.
    Selby

    I have been experimenting and have found out something more.  Previously, before doing a content aware fill operation I would create a new layer at the top of the layer stack that was a merge of all layers below it (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E) and the content aware fill operation worked very well.
    In CS6 it now appears to me that it still gets influenced by the lower layers in the stack, despite the fact that it is operating on the merge of those layers.  If I duplicate the image, and then flatten the duplicate, the content aware fill operation then in some cases works as I would expect.  I then duplicate the layer back to my original image, delete the parts I don't need and put it at the top of the stack in my original image.
    So something appears to have changed in CS6 and it might be a bug.

    Hi I am currently have a subscription to PS CC but I don't think I have the latest version.  I believe this because I don't get the new welcome screen and don't have new features like the structure and color setting in the content aware patch tool.  I have checked for updates and it tells me I have the current version.  I check in PS I have version 14.2.1.  I also have CS6 installed on my PC, could this be somehow be doing something or am I doing something wrong.  Would anyone have any suggestions.

    It's under "Find New Apps".  You have to scroll down to see it.

  • Content-aware fill and layers

    One thing I'd been wondering about very eagerly is whether the content-aware fill feature(s) would source their content from multiple layers, or only from the current layer, or whether there might be an option, as for the clone stamp tool for example, to choose whether the current layer, the current layer and below, or all layers were sampled for content.
    I hadn't noticed any demonstration of content-aware fill on a document having multiple pixel layers.
    Here are the results from my testing. (They may be wrong!)
    What I want to be able to do, is to put a single "corrections" layer at the top of a layer stack, and to make local corrections using content from all layers below—with the latter being rasterized on the fly as necessary, so that the cumulative effect of masks, layer effects, blending modes, transparency, knockout, adjustment layers and anything else, are all used as content for the corrections. Until now I've done something similar but more limited with the clone stamp tool. Content awareness seemed to offer greater promise, for three reasons. (1) No back and forth: no choosing and monitoring of source pixels. (2) No visible softening of the correction at the edge of the brush. (3) The promise of imperceptible results with very little thought or work.
    So, can we do this?
    For fill, content-awareness only extends to pixels in the current layer. It doesn't look below. If the current layer is empty, then Photoshop comes back with a message that filling is not possible in content-aware mode, because not enough content can be found. If the current layer is blank (e.g. all white), then you just get more blank. That's fair enough. You could use content-aware fill early, on source layers, or late and destructively, after flattening. But not what I'm looking for.
    The same is not true of the spot healing brush, which has both a "content aware" option and a "sample all layers option". And it works wonders. It does exactly what I want. Empty layer, sample all layers, run the the brush over dodgy parts of the image, and hey presto—it really does feel as if you have a wand in your hand.
    This feature alone would be enough to persuade me to upgrade to CS5, since it will save me hours of work and produce a better result (in my context, cartography). Well done Adobe.

    You're asking about a pretty rarified realm.  Not a whole lot of people ever have 24GB let alone beyond.
    I stitch big panos all the time, though 1 GP is a fair bit larger than most I do; mine are in the 100-300 MP range.  I should mention I almost exclusively edit in 16 bits/channel mode.  I also use content aware fill fairly regularly without problems.  In my case I have 8 GB of RAM in a Dell Precision workstation.  It doesn't seem to get too winded with 8 GB, so 24 GB seems about right for what you want.
    You definitely DO want a workstation that's been purpose-built for extra throughput and reliability if you're going to be working on ultra-large datasets.
    I'd say buy the workstation with 24 GB of RAM and see how it goes.  Also the RAID is a very good idea (I use RAID 0).  Apparently the 6 Gb/sec SATA stuff is starting to become real too, though most drives can't even keep up with the old 3 Gb speed yet.

  • Photoshop CS5 content-aware scale

    Hi, I'm a photoshop CS5.1 64 bits user, I'm following the "Learn adobe photoshop CS5 by video" with the instructor  Kelly McCathran. Well, I need to know how to create two layers with different sizes to apply content-aware scale...I can't! I import a picture (4000x3000) from adobe bridge...When I create a layer with a different dimension (3000x2000) the picture (4000x3000) turns to (3000x2000)!!! What am I supposed to do?

    With the smaller image appearing with the larger one in Photoshop, click on the smaller image in its Layers panel and drag it over the larger image.
    Once the smaller image is sitting on top of the larger one in the Layers panel, you can change the size of the smaller image by using Edit > Transform > Scale.
    Hold down the Shift key as you alter the scale, the image maintains proportion.

  • Local help content adobe premiere and elements 10

    I usually check for adobe help updates (local content) once a week! There was an update to adobe premiere elements 10 this week. However, when I clicked update, it did something but instead of saying current, it said intergration pending. Nomatter what I did it remained pending. At this time I had over 100mb's of local content all together.  I decided to uninstall AIR, uninstall Adobe Help.AIR and delete the folder in the USER/DataAppData/Roaming folder and then reinstall them back. When I clicked Adobe Help, It redownloaded all the local content but only 61.8mb's  and it now it says that Adobe Photoshop Element 10 and Adobe Premiere 10 are "Not Available." All the other Adobe apps local help content says, "Current." Can anyone explain what's going on?

    Hi: sorry for the delay -- the issue has been traced to some misconfigured redirects on the adobe content servers.  The redirects should be fixed sometime this evening. I will continue to monitor the situation with our IT team and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.  Please note that this is issue affects the online web help as well as the availability of local help.
    Again, apologies for the delay.

  • Content-aware-fill and magic-wand-tool

    Hello! I use the content-aware-fill to remove some text from a photo. To do so, I use the "Polygonal Lasso Tool", select the text with a generous border and click edit -> fill -> content-aware-fill.
    This works fine, but selecting a text with the lasso-tool is very much work. So I tried to use the magic-wand-tool - some clicks and the text is selected, very fast and fine. No applying the content-aware-fill - the text vanishes somehow, but the borders of the text are still visible. I guess you really have to select the text AND some background around it to make content-aware-fill work. But isn't there a way to do this with the magic-wand-tool? Increasing the tolerance didn't work, I would need something like "magic-wand-tool and increase the selected area +20 pixels in all directions".
    What procedure do you suggest?

    Are you trying to remove a watermark that says something like "Proof" or "Copyright"?  If so, you won't get much help here.  The best advice in that case is to actually pay for the photo.  It's surprising how many people ask for help doing illegal things.
    Please confirm you are not trying to defeat someone's copyright (e.g., post a small part of the image), and I'm sure you'll get more help.

  • Content Aware Scaling and not enough RAM

    I'm on a mac book pro that i bought october 2008 with 4 Gb RAM, with a 2.8 GHz Intel core 2 duo processor. I run content aware scaling on a file make my adjustments, click return and get the warning dialogue: “Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM).”
    In earlier adobe forums people have talked about CAScaling not working well with Bigger tiles plug in activated. as far as I can see I do not even have that plug in. I go to apps>PS CS4 >plug-ins > extentions -- and it's not there -- I see plug ins for AltiVecCore, Enable Async IO, FastCore MMXCore, Multi Processor Support. PPCCore, and scripting support -- but not a Bigger tiles plug in which I still have in my previous copy of CS3 -- but not CS4.
    So I'm wondering what's up - how to solve this issue and get back to work -- and just how I should have my PS performance preferences set up for best performance. Anyone out there with a clue?
    thanks,
    owen

    I think I discovered the source of my problem -- doing too many things at once -- I did however , as you suggested, Buko, allot 90% of my RAM to photoshop. My image was a panorama made from seven RAW files shot with my Canon G-10 -- about 15 inches by 63 inches @ 240 ppi. I first stitched them together out of Lightroom -- no problem. But of course the edges were rounded, and I wanted to stretch my sky and foreground to fill the image rectangle without any apparent distortion. I figured CAS was perfect for this... and so it is,  once I figured things out.
    It is now my intent to stitch the pano every way possible in CS4 and see which one looks best in this particular instance. I may have multiple favorite methodologies, and discover which procedure fits what kind of situation best. My problem, I think, was that in applying the CA scaling transformation, I pulled on all four sides of the image - not just one. But PS and CAS worked just fine if I transformed each edge or side separately. Perhaps it works fine pulling and transforming on all sides if I'm on an 8 core mac pro tower with 16 gigs of RAM -- we'll see -- but for now -- I'll try it separately with each edge @ 100% RAM allowance -- to see if that had anything to do with my problem -- otherwise I'll keep it in the optimum range, and transform one side at a time.
    For me this file was a test -- I have a panorama of an image looking over the rooftops of Siena, Italy to print next, made from 17 frames from my 5D mark 2 and that file is 3.3 Gb and took my little laptop over an hour to render as a pano -- but it did-- ( thank you apple -- thank you Intel, thank you Mr Knoll & co...) and will need some stretching to fill the frame -- one side at a time - I suspect.
    So merci beaucoup, Buko!
    ... and thanks Mr Schewe for the the tip, doode -- you know what I'm talking about. ;^) and thanks to the engineers and geniuses at Adobe who make this magic possible.
    peace,
    oc

  • Help with Touch photo and movie copy/paste issues

    I recently moved all of my photos and movies from my Touch to a USB drive, and now I want to put them back but the Touch won't let me - how do I replace them??  My ultimate destination for the files is the Cloud, which I've just loaded.

    It sounds like the poster tried to paste the photos into the DCIM folder in My Computer since that is how you can get photos taken by or saved to the iPod into your computer. However the reverse does not work for moving photos from computer to iPod.

  • Please help me to reorganize and move my iTunes library from TC to an external drive

    A while ago I made the mistake of moving my iTunes library off of my mid-2009 MacBook Pro (currently running Mavericks 10.9.3) to my Time Capsule because it was too large for the 160 GB internal drive and I didn’t realize that it wasn’t the best place for the library.
    Now that I’m soon to have two 4 TB Seagate Backup Plus drives I’m looking to move both my rapidly growing Aperture library off my laptop and transfer my iTunes files from the TC to one of the two Seagates.  On this Seagate there is a second partition for my Time Machine backup.  When the second drive gets in (I live in Peru and have to wait for the second drive) I will use it to make an exact copy of the first Seagate as a backup.
    For some reason the music files on the Time Capsule reside in three different places:
    /users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Music/Band name/Album name/05 track name.m4a
    or
    //localhost/Users/…(same as above)
    or
    /volumes/my name Time C/Music/Music/Band name/Album name/05 track name/.m4a
    How it came to be this way I don’t know.  I’ve only recently gotten access to my MacBook after leaving it behind for two years of travel.  How do I clean this up so that all files are residing in the same directory location and where should that place be?  I want to keep my internal drive as empty as possible so files need to go on this new Seagate.  I’m waiting on a FireWire 800 adapter to speed up the process of transfer.  Is there a way to efficiently move 400+ GB of music files from the TC to the Seagate drive?  I don’t know why in the third location (/volumes…) there are two /Music folders, which seems unnecessary.  How can I eliminate this across all files?  Is this something I can do using Automator?  Any other suggestions?   Thanks for helping me with a newbie situation.

       Yes you can go to > Music > iTunes folder and copy the whole iTunes folder and drag the folder to your external and then on the new Mac click and highlight the iTunes folder and then in iTunes click on the button at the top (add folder to library) and you should see all your songs transfer from the external to the Mac and all songs start filling up in your iTunes library on the Mac.
      This is the easiest method all songs and other media such as songs, movies, apps will be transferred over however you may not be able to keep ratings & last played counts using this method.
      To keep all metadata including ratings & play count use the Apple method exclusively for this if you have to have your metadata, play counts and ratings saved.
      I used scenario one above because it one of the simplest methods and I was just satisfied enough just to transfer all media over.

  • Help with menu button and movie load

    Hello everyone....I am very new to flash and actionscripting

    I am building a site with a menu and a banner that is
    controlled by the menu (two swf files). I have managed to get them
    to communicate however, I am stuck at this point.
    When "bt_1" is hit I would like a "mv_1" to load in the
    banner.swf with is respected intro animation...this I figured out
    how to do...however now when "bt_2" is clicked I would like play
    the remainder of the animation of "mv_1" to unload the movie before
    "mv_2" loads with its respected enterance animation....this I would
    like to do for several buttons. The method I am using for my local
    connection is this....
    Sending script
    mySender = new LocalConnection();
    on (release) {
    \\ each button has a different param...1,2,3,4,5,6
    _root.mySender.send("menuconnect", "action", 1);

    gotoAndPlay(2);
    if (doThis == 2)
    gotoAndPlay(3);
    //and so and soforth for all six buttons
    myReceiver.connect("menuconnect");
    If all this makes no sense I'm sorry...I tried my best...
    If some pro out there can understand what I'm trying to do
    and can help me I would greatly appreciate it....thank-you all

    here is the actual website....www.beckyandsangeeth.com
    the menu on the left of course has the buttons and I want the
    animation pertaining to each button to load in the apparent banner
    region, (which I am still working on the indivual animations).
    I guess I'm not understanding where the movies are loaded and
