Photoshop Help | Essential 3D concepts and tools

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/essential-3d-concepts-tools-photoshop.html

This page says "In the Tools panel, click a 3D object tool, and hold down the mouse button to select from the following types:" but I don't see any 3D tools in the Tool panel in CC.

  • Photoshop Help | Selecting with the lasso tools

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/selecting-lasso-tools.html

In Photoshop CS5 I was able to use the magnetic lasso, select a section from a photo and drag and drop the selection either in another Pshop or Illustrator doc. Now in Photoshop CS6 when I use the Magnetic Lasso and select an area of a picture, I get a bounding box with a white background that is coming with the selection.I am not getting just what I selected. Do I have something set up wrong, can someone please help with? Thank you....

Good news is that we can use Patch Tool non-destructively thanks to Sample All Layers. Another great thing is to change Adaptation option on the fly after patching so one does not have to ques which option should choose. photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point.  i really need to get thsi figured out. thank you.

You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know.

  • Why is the Photoshop font size extremely small for their navigation menus and tools?

Why is the font size for the Photoshop Cloud navigation menus and tools displaying extremely small on my laptop? I can barely see them. The other Adobe Cloud applications don't display small.

Is a readable interface an unreasonable expectation?
Not at all, and we should well expect that Adobe is working on it.  By their own admission they ARE working on it.  I don't sense "deafening silence" at all.  But results won't/can't be instantaneous and they're not going to promise you release dates.  Life is not like that, no matter how many times you click your red shoes together.
It's not hard to understand that right now only a small minority of Photoshop users are running high dpi screens that can't take advantage of the 200% setting.  And it was the choice of those users to buy such hardware even in light of the fact that Photoshop can't work fully well on it yet.  Adobe didn't force anyone to buy a 150 ppi display.
Frankly, if you've chosen such hardware even though Photoshop doesn't offer 150% scaling, it's your own fault.  I recently invested well over $1000 in a new monitor and I planned well enough ahead to buy a 100ppi model (Dell U3014, and it's GREAT).  There's a reason that very new technology is called "bleeding edge".  If you want "To Work" instead of "Dealing With Quirks", sometimes you have to be conservative.
A majority of Photoshop users DO expect new and useful features, however, such as new tools, new camera support in Camera Raw, etc., so Adobe understandably cannot dedicate every resource they have to revamping Photoshop's user interface just for a special few folks who have irresponsibly adopted new display technology.
We can debate all day how much Adobe ought to be spending on engineering development, but you and I don't run the company.  We don't make business decisions for them.  I do, however, claim to understand their capabilities and limitations - possibly better than most - because I'm in the same business.
I can only recommend you be patient.  One day Photoshop will respond to your desktop settings.
What the heck has anybody ever accomplished here, with Adobe, in either fashion?
Rhetorical or not, some quite tangible things do come to mind...
At one time I couldn’t paste my clipboard containing a grayscale image into a new document via an action assigned to a key; the color engine would crash.  Today I can do so without incident.
At one time multiple Help windows would pop up unexpectedly, often when working in the Styles panel.  Today they don’t.
At one time I had to select Basic GPU mode.  Today I use Advanced GPU mode without a problem.
Once running Liquify or Smart Sharpen or a number of other things were slow, especially on big images.  Now they're quite fast, with GPU acceleration.
At one time an action could not write data back to a document when in windowed mode.  Today it works.
At one time panorama stitching and focus stacking did not work.  Now it works.
At one time most filters only worked on 8 bits/channel data.  Now many of them can handle 16 bits/channel.
Once naysayers predicted that the Photoshop Photography bundle would shoot up in price.  Yet today it's still $9.99 a month.
Once it was impossible to read Photoshop's UI on a 200+ ppi screen.  Now there's a new 200% setting for that.
I'm sure I can think of other things.  And of course the software isn't perfect today.  It never will be absolutely perfect.
Station_two, are you keeping up with the latest Photoshop releases?  If not, I submit that your rhetoric may be falling out of date.

I just bought a Dell Precision M3800 laptop - screen res 3840 x 2160  when I open photoshop the task bar and tools and layers etc are in 4pts size   I changed my % in my image in my control panel and if I go to open file the drop down boxes are in good pt sizes  how do I make the layers and tool bars bigger?  Please help@

Windows will scale applications display or windows will not scale application display depending on how the application is coded.  Photoshop is coded in a way that its display is not scaled by windows.  Photoshop knows about your displays high pixel count not its resolution  so it uses its pixels  however it does not scale its UI to make it usable on your display.  Other application let Windows  scale their display output.   For example Microsoft default for is Surface Pro 3, 216 ppi display is to scale applications display up 150% so the surface pro 3 display which has 2160x1440 pixels a 216 ppi resolution look like at display with the user is using with 1440x960 pixels.  The Application works like the display is 1440x960 and Windows scale those pixels to the displays using the displays  2160x1440 pixels the effectively changing it resolution to 144ppi rather than the actual 216ppi.
The reg update  and external manifest file  effectively tells photoshop its working on such a size display display some number of pixel wide and some number photoshop uses that as the display size  in turn Windows scale those pixels to use the displays 2160x1440 pixels efector lowing its 216ppi resolution.  Photoshop CC 2014 2X UI would be like using windows 200% option applications would be shown the are working on a display 1080x720 instead of the Surface Pro 3 2160x1440. Note that 1080x720 does not meet PS requirement of 1024x768.  Photoshop UI would not fit on the Surface Pro 3 display..
Since you have a 4k display if you have CC 2014 you can use its 2x UI effectively Photoshop will be running on a 1920x1080 display and have half the resolution of you 4K display  3840x2160 pixels four native pixels are use as a single pixel.   1920x1080 pixels exceed PS requirement.

  • How do I change the size of file menu's and tool icons in Photoshop' opening page.

How do I increase or change the size of file menu's and tool icons on the opening page/worksheet of Photoshop? The File Menu drop down commands read properly at a comfortable size. I am not sure how I accomplished this, but everything I have tried has no effect on the other page items.

Hello, you can change most of Photoshop's interface text by going to preferences>interface>UI font size.
For the size of the top menus and the whole interface, there is no function to do that for the moment. I suggest to vote on this thread: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/problem_with_hi_res_monitors

  • Photoshop cs5 and cs4, photoshop help...f1 why online

    Hi
i have installed on w7 photoshop cs5 and photoshop cs4
well when i try to read the manual (the help files) clicking F1 or under the menu Help-> Photoshop Help F1 ,photoshop cs5 and cs4 connect to the net
for example cs4 opens a firefox page with the help guides
cs5 opens a windows connected to internet
for example i need to know some shortcut and i have to be connected to the net
    that's  weird
is there a way to use the offline help? like cs3
    thanks

You can download the help files as a PDF from the Photoshop Support pages.
If you want to access the offline help files from F1, you have to disconnect PS from the Internet.
If you want to turn off Community Help so that local Help opens by default, do the following:
       1. Open the Connections panel (Window > Extensions > Connections).
       2. From the Connections panel menu , select Offline Options.
       3. Select Keep Me Offline and click OK.
Note: When you disable web services from the Connections panel, all other web services (such as Adobe Kuler and Adobe ConnectNow) are also disabled.

As far as acquiring news versions goes, the only benefit you will get from owning CS4 is that you can get a Creative Cloud subscription at a special rate for the first year.  https://creative.adobe.com/#plans
Otherwise, since CS4 is not in the upgrade path for CS6 products, you can purchase CS6 applications at full price.

  • Does photoshop elements 13 have the pen tool and where is it?

Does Photoshop Elements 13 have the pen tool and if so where is it?

I don't understand what you mean about the white line, but many tools in PSE are actually groups of tools. The blur tool shares a slot with the sharpen tool and the Smudge tool. Click hold on the one that's visible for a popout menu, or keep tapping the R key till the blur tool comes into view.
