Photoshop Image Gets Compressed In MS Word

I can't figure this out... and I've tried everything I know / have been able to find on Google.
I'm using Microsoft Word 2010. When I save the document I use Save as > PDF
I created a few images for headers inside of Photoshop CS6. I've tried quite a few resolutions (600, 300, 220, 150, 96, 72) and I've also done all of the tips out there for preventing compression (going into settings > advanced > turning compression off, clicking image going to format preventing compression, and also the save as > tools > 220 dpi/use document compression).
I've also tried a ton of different file types: Jpg, png, gif, tiff, and pdf.
None of this works and my images keep getting compressed when it comes out in PDF.
How do I get this to stop compressing my images?
P.S. The image looks TOTALLY fine inside of the document. But as soon as I export it looks compressed and choppy.

Don't use Save As > PDF to export the document. Instead print the document to a PDF and select the High Quality Print setting. This isn't going to prevent the image from looking like a raster image when you zoom in on the PDF, but it will keep the compression to a minimum.
On a side note, for this type of work you should really be using Illustrator if you want to retain good quality of your image when exported as a PDF as well as not using Word for this type of work. Word doesn't do the best when it comes to retaining image quality when it's output as a PDF, even when you do use the Print to PDF option as I suggested. The only way you're going to be able to retain high quality output is to setup the graphic in Illustrator, save it as an Illustrator EPS, and then import that into Word. The image below shows the difference in quality between an eps and a png in Word.
EPS above and PNG below as it appears in Word at 100% zoom.
Same setup but at 500% zoom. While the PNG looks to be better quality than the EPS, Word doesn't render EPS files 100% accurately for screen which is why the PNG looks better.
Print to PDF from the Word file. Note that the EPS file looks great at a zoom level of 500% because it's using vectors while the PNG below it is pixelated because the printed version of the logo is accurate to the raster version.

  • [CS3 JS] Getting information about Photoshop images in InDesign

    Hello,
Through an InDesign script I can get many pieces of information about an image such as the file name, resolution in PPI, dimension in inches, color mode, etc.
What I am wondering is if it is possible to find out how many layers a Photoshop image may have. I would like a quick way to know if an image has been flattened (one layer) without having to open up the image in Photoshop.
    Tom

You can do this via BridgeTalk, here is an example. Select a TIF or PSD image and run the script.

    const gScriptVersion = "1.0";

  • How do I add video in my Photoshop images and graphics? I need it to play in Adobe Acrobat when I'm done.

I designed an electronic press kit and I need the video to play on it. I'm getting the video link from YouTube so I was wondering how to make that happen. I already tried putting the YouTube link behind the video layer so it can be clickable in Acrobat, but when I sent it to the online magazine forum there was a lot of lines in it. I saw this YouTube video on how to do it but it requires ImageReady TUTORIAL-Add video to your Photoshop images and graphics! - YouTube. I don't have the Photoshop to ImageReady button in my PS....HELP! How do I get this done?!?!?

That tutorial is extremely old. ImageReady was last used in CS2. In other words that program no longer exists.
Luckily video made its way into photoshop so you can easily import your video into photoshop.
Instead of an animation panel, it is now called the timeline panel. When the panel first opens it will ask you if you want an animation or a movie. Choosing movie will reduce the number of layers required down to just 2, one for the movie and one for the TV image. Since this is a timeline, you can split the timeline to remove any portion of the video you do not want or need to add an effect to that area of the timeline. Each time you split the video, it will move it to a new layer for you.
You can still export as an animated gif by using the File>Save As dialog box. or You can export as a movie and choose another video format. Which format and codec you can choose will depend on how many other video apps of Adobe's you also have installed.

  • Images being compressed or resized before printing ??

I have a 50MB PNG image that I just printed using the built in Kodak printing system. When the image was actually being uploaded, though, it was only 3.2MB in size. What happened to the photo? Did it get converted to a JPEG or PDF? Was it resized? What settings are applied to the image before the upload?
The image came from a scan of a film negative, and I purposely increased the image size in Photoshop and saved in a lossless format so that it could be printed as high quality as possible. The photo was originally 6000x9000 in size, corresponding to a 300dpi printing. I'm a bit worried that the "compressed/ resized/ whatever was done to it" photo that actually got uploaded will have more visible artifacts...

If you edit an image with Photoshop from within iPhoto it can either save as a jpg or a psd depending on what edits were performed. Some simple edits with photoshop will keep the jpg extension and that will become the modified version in iPhoto. However if the edits are extensive or layers are created then you either do a Save As to the Desktop an import as a new file or flatten the image and force save as a jpg.
As far as the 500 MB image getting reduced for uploading I believe iPhoto may do what it does for books and calendars - convert very large files to PDF files. That would account for the much smaller sized uploaded file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • File Place does not appear on my menu. Neither does Tools Photoshop Image processor.

In Bridge File>Place is grayed out on my menu. Tools>Photoshop>Image processor does not appear at all.  I have reset the preferences numerous times and am good to go until I shut down my computer.  When I reboot they are gone again.  I have a Mac with OS 10.10.2 (Yosemite) and CC.

    Mardi Carter wrote:

Well, that's fine for the OS, but sometimes not so great for Photoshop.  Try QUITTING Photoshop from the Photoshop menu, or by Command Q, before you get anywhere near your Apple menu .
Gene gave you sound advice, but don't forget to run Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility before and after any installation, upgrade or update of the OS or any application.
You'd think that shouldn't be necessary, but it is indeed vital, indispensable routine maintenance.
Forget about "it had never happened before", Yosemite is a work in progress.  Apple never gets a major OS X release right until about the dot four or five release, so Yosemite has a way to go before it's at 10.10.4 or 10.10.5.  That has proven to be the nature of the beast.

  • Tools Photoshop Image Processor NG (CS5)

From within Bridge CS5, the Image Processor does not bring up the options window.
From within Bridge, if I select some images and then do: Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor...
The next screen does not come up. Nothing happens.... the main menu goes gray, but nothing else happens. No other window pops up.
In CS2 (I know, I'm a late adopter) the what-to-do with the selected images window pops up.
    Thanks,
    Drew

I am on CS3 and will move to CS5 soon, once the initial frenzy dies.  But you say  you do this: Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor...
The next screen  does not come up. Nothing happens.... the main menu goes gray, but  nothing else happens. No other window pops up.
When you click on Image Processor Photoshop should load and then you get the Image Processor Menu.  Does it do this and then the Image Processor menu items are gray, so don't you get that far?
Can you load the Image Processor from Photoshop?  (file/scripts/image processsor).

  • Photoshop Image Processor.jsx could not be found. CS5

I like to use Bridge to export groups of photos and with past versions I've been able to select photos, go to Tools>Photoshop>Image Process and select one of my custom actions.  Now I get this error: Photoshop Image Processor.jsx could not be found.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

By default the image processor script should be placed in the Application
folder (on root level, not in the user
    account)/AdobePhotoshop/presets/scripts/ image Processor.jsx
Also by default in Bridge preferences Start up Scripts Adobe Photoshop
should have a checkmark in front of it.
If you changed any of these there lies your fault, if it happened to fail
out of the blue you first should try restart Bridge holding down option key
    and choose refresh preferences.
First check if it works now and if it does again set preferences to your
wishes. (obvious not deselecting the PS script... )
Now I get this error: Photoshop Image Processor.jsx could not be found.

  • PSD files saved as Photoshop Image 13

I have been using Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit) on my Windows 8.1 laptop (64 bit) for over a year and has been working perfect. About two days ago something weird happened. All of my PSD files show that they are Photoshop Image 13 files instead of showing it as a regular Photoshop document. When I open a file or import another Photoshop file, I get a dialogue box saying that the "file cannot be opened because it is not compatible with the current version of Photoshop". I can't figure out what happened. I never saved any files differently that could cause this. I even checked my preferences to see if something was accidentally changed but everything is unchanged. • CS2 uninstall, mac desktop screen acting like photoshop image

Recently my creative suite on my mac stopped updating showing an error, so each time now when updates arrive I cannot update. Now my 20" intel macs desktop image acts like a photoshop image?
The desktop starts up and then expands beyond the screen, by nearly 2", when the cursor is moved accross the screen the desktop image moves too, it is making its way to see the unseen edge which appears as cursor moves towards that edge, (eg from centre move cursor to right screen image moves left). This is quite a sea-sick effect. Also if you click and drag on the desktop it forms a box, like the one in photoshop. Something seems corrupted. I want to uninstall the creative suite then reinstall (this should help the updates) but I do not know if the screen on my mac will correct.
I looked up how to uninstall and the first thing is to double click on the Activity Monitor in Utilities and select AHCRemind.
I double click on the Activity Monitor and the window I get up does not show AHCRemind? I cannot proceed. Can anyone help, has anyone had the same problem with the desktop?

I have managed to cure the screen moving but I still need to uninstall CS2 (creative suite 2) and reinstall. I have an intel mac 10.4 os running tiger. As I said before I cannot find the 1st step on the instruction, perhaps the instruction is pre tiger, or Leopard system? Please help.

  • Putting Media on top of a Photoshop image

I am currently making a website that is Photoshop based. I have created a full page on Photoshop including all my text and images. I used hot spots/ image maps to link users to different pages. But I am unable to do make flash related components in Photoshop. (Example: the image viewer in dream weaver). My question is, how am I able to place an image view onto my webpage in Dreamweaver on TOP of the Photoshop image? I have tried making layers but the problem is that it has a fixed position and it will not be able to adapt to different desktop sizes. I want the image view to be able to move to the center with my website.

I am currently making a website that is Photoshop based.
If you scan through this forum, I'm wagering you'll find that >50% of the posts here are from people who have taken just this approach.  Photoshop (and Fireworks) do not write production-quality HTML.  The HTML you get from any graphics application is extremely 'brittle' and will break as soon as you begin to change the shape of the content on each page.  You should use a graphics application to make your graphics, and an HTML authoring system to write your HTML.  That's the honest truth.
I have created a full page on Photoshop including all my text and images. I used hot spots/ image maps to link users to different pages.
Your text content is part of the graphic?  You realize that you will not get ranked by search engines when you do that, right?  This is the worst thing you can do, really.
My question is, how am I able to place an image view onto my webpage in Dreamweaver on TOP of the Photoshop image?
Now you are getting to the heart of the matter.  To tell you how to do this, we will have to use HTML-speak, and CSS-speak, which you are not likely to understand if you are just using Photoshop to write your HTML.  The answer to your question is that you make your graphics a background image of the container involved, and place your media into that container, properly nudged into place using padding and margins.
I have tried making layers but the problem is that it has a fixed position and it will not be able to adapt to different desktop sizes. I want the image view to be able to move to the center with my website.
You can do it that way, *and* make the absolutely positioned element center along with the website by wrapping the entire page in a centering, and relatively positioned container, e.g.,
    <body>
    <div style="width:xxxpx; margin:0 auto;position:relative;">
... the rest of your page's code ...
    </div>
    </body>

  • Why does my high res photoshop image appear blurry when placed in InDesign and Exported as PDF?

    Hi there,
I have a problem I've been trying to solve for days but just can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
I have a large, good quality photoshop file (2268 x 979 pixels, resolution 300 pixels per inch). When I place it into InDesign, the image appears OK (I've changed my display settings to HIGH) - I then resize it in InDesign to 10% and the file still looks great! Then, when I export it as PDF (high quality print) it looks blurry.
Does anybody know why? The strangest thing is, I've placed other photoshop images in the same InDesign file and they look crystal clear. It is just this one I am having trouble with. I've saved it in the same folder as the other pictures, I've tried placing it as psd. , jpg. , photoshop pdf, png. everything...
The image looks great in both photoshop and indesign, only when exported as pdf it looks awful.
Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Many thanks in advance!
    Weronika

It's probably the extreme reduction -- you're throwing away 90% of the image pixels and interpolating, and then using jpeg compression on top.

  • Print Image gets consistently smaller

Here's a glitch that I can reproduce consistently. If someone has a fix for this (or if this is just a problem on my computer), please let me know. In order to reproduce this, it might help to have multiple printer drivers that you can switch to, although you can do it just by going back and forth between a printer driver and the "Print as PDF" function.
Open a new page in Pages. Write a word or anything. Highlight some section of it, and insert a comment. Then try to print the page with the comment showing. I find that every time I switch from the default printer that shows up to another one, the image gets smaller and smaller until finally, the page i wanted to print is the size of a thumbnail. This happens even if I switch to "Print as PDF" (I tried this to see if I could bypass the problem and print from a PDF file, but alas).
If anyone else experiences this and have a fix for it, let me know. (Or let me know if I'm the only one.)
    gy

You are not alone! I have the same weird problem. In any Pages doc when I highlight/comment on any item (comment appears in grey side bar in doc) and then go to print the page - every time I click any print parameter (page selection/page size/printer etc) in the print dialogue box - it halves the size of the doc in the preview window... and prints it that size! So if I click enough print items, the preview gets so small that my doc is reduced to a dot! This is very annoying! I had to resort to (a) printing an entire 48 page doc to get two 'commented' pages, or taking a screen snapshot and printing from that.
This is most def a bug.

  • Photoshop edited jpeg disappears when the Word doc in which it was inserted is converted to a pdf

I do not have a problem with any other type of image I insert into a word file. An unedited photo is able to be seen in the pdf as is a Photoshop saved .tiff version of the image. I have photoshop elements 7, Acrobat 9, and using Windows Vista.

    1. Possibly. Sometimes a PDF is bigger, sometimes smaller. Try it, and try different settings.
    2. Sending large documents by email is a common problem; the solution is to use one of many services for doing it. They are very easy to use and many are free e.g. WeTransfer
