Photoshop images are grainy when I view/edit them

I have used Photoshop CS3 for a year now with my 15-megapixel DSLR camera and used to be able to edit photos in PS just fine. But about 2 months ago I upgraded to CS4 and since then, all my images are super grainy when viewing and editing them in PS. I know it has nothing to do with the way I'm saving the images as they show grainy in photoshop before I even do anything to them. And when uploading them online, they're still super grainy even though they weren't before back when I was using CS3
Anyone have any idea why?

Well, that's the thing. The camera settings are the exact same as they were when I was running CS3 when everything was fine. The only variable that changed was installing CS4. After I did that, even though the camera settings DID NOT change, the images all of a sudden became grainy
I thought it may be a hardware issue so I upgraded the video card to one that greatly exceeds the requirements, but still no joy. I also did the Ctrl+Alt+Shift method to clear settings in case there was a rougue setting somewhere that was causing it. Still no luck

    Checked LR's setting for Ps export and they haven't changed since it was OK a few days ago? It is OK if you zoom in but in 'fit page' it looks terrible!

    I have exactly the same problem and it has got worse today as the photos also now open in smaller windows for some reason

    I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

    When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
    Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
    Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
    If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

    If I hold down the Option key while launching iPhoto, I get the option to start a new library. Do I have to import all my thousands of photos into the new library?
    In his original post the poster referenced the following. As to the new Library, see the end.
    There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *If none of these help*:
    As a Test:
    Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
    Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Photos are grainy when moved from Lighroom to Photoshop

    Why is this happening?
    I'm updated in Lightroom and Photoshop cc
    how do i correct the problem?

    I don't know Macs so can't give you advice if CS6 will run on your Mac.
    But since you have Lr5 you won't need to open Raw images in Photoshop. Lr5 gives you all the Raw editing capabilities that you need. I don't think CS6 will add anything to Raw editing capabilities that Lr5 doesn't have - although I don't know CS6 since I am still working with CS5.
    You still can send images from Lr5 to CS4 for editing but you have to select <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog that says that the "Camera raw plug-in 8.1 may be required   ...". BTW: what this means is that the Camera raw plug-in 8.1 is required for Photoshop, not for Lr.
    When you select <Render using Lightroom> Lr will create a TIFF / PSD from the Raw image and send it to CS4 for editing.
    If you had CS6 Lr would send the Raw image to CS6 but on saving the edits in CS6 a TIFF / PSD would be created.
    The only drawback with using CS4 is that the options <Merge to Panorama ...>, <Merge to HDR ...>, and <Open as layers> will be greyed-out and are not available.
    If instead of selecting  <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog box you would select <Open anyway>, nothing would happen. CS4 would open but the image would not be displayed in CS4.

  • SP 2010 Publishing - Rollup and Page Images not visible when entering page edit mode

    All:
    Hello, I have an odd issue recently appearing after installation of FEB 2013 CU install. When users select to Edit a Publishing Page the Rollup Image and also Page Image(Article Page Layout) are not visible. Only the "Click here to insert Image from
    SharePoint" link is visible.
    The issue has be confirmed in 5 servers across two farms
    DEV, QA, and PROD on client recently updated
    DEV and PROD in a completely separate client farm
    I have confirmed the issue does not exist in two separate farms running April 2012 CU. In both of those environments the image appears with issue even in Edit page mode.
    In the farms where the issue exists you can click the insert image link and simply hit OK to see the image again. An easy enough work around for tech savvy but my client's content admins are very confused/frustrated by.
    Is this a bug? I have confirmed in two separate farms including brand new web applications using out of the box publishing site templates.

    Hi.
    We have been facing the same issue in a 2013-environment (SP1), but in this case an upgraded 2010 Solution, which still runs in 2010-mode. Because of this, SharePoint still use resource-files in the 14-hive (as we have not performed an upgrade of Master
    Pages etc.) The problem is also reproduced on a clean 2010 Site Collection in the same 2013-environment.
    I have managed to find the cause of the problem (at least in our environment), and that is that as long as the selected picture/image has
    not defined an "AltText"/"Alternate Text" the problem seems to occur.
    In other words, try to define an Alternate Text and click OK in the "Edit Image Properties" Dialog.
    I don't know if this may be the case for everyone else, but give it a try.
    From this, I've further discovered (after hours of js-debugging) that there is a minor change (from 2010 to 2013) in a js-file called "SelectorControls.js" which is responsible for updating the various controls used in Page Layouts etc.
    The problem exist in a method called ASO_UpdateButtonsAndPanels(), which checks whether the Image Control in question has content or not (Url). The local variable "hasContent" is then determined of an if statement, if(this.AssetData.ManageLinkDisplayText)
    which in 2010 (14-hive) seems to be "true" regardless whether the Control is of type Image or Hyperlink. Further the code checks for AssetText (Alternate Text) which on an Image may be left empty.
    In 2013 (15-hive) however, this if statement has been changed to, if(this.SelectorType==ConstLinkSelectorType), which clearly states "Image" or "Link" depending on the type of control.
    I don't know if this is the cause of the problem in 2013, but in 2010 it seems to be exactly that.
    Pending a solution from Microsoft, we have modified SelectorControls.js to overcome this issue until the customer decides to do a Visual Upgrade to 2013.
    This is by all means not a supported nor a a permanent solution to the problem, as future Hotfixes, Service Pack etc. may "reset" our fix.
    Below is a copy of the working solution:
    function ASO_UpdateButtonsAndPanels()
    {ULSuBa:;
    var hasContent=!!this.AssetData.AssetUrl;
    //SharePoint 2010: ManageLinkDisplayText is always "True"
    //var hasContent=!!this.AssetData.AssetUrl;
    //if(this.AssetData.ManageLinkDisplayText)
    //hasContent=hasContent && !!this.AssetData.AssetText;
    //SharePoint 2013
    //var a=!!this.AssetData.AssetUrl;
    //if(this.SelectorType==ConstLinkSelectorType) a = a && !!this.AssetData.AssetText;
    //Fix for preventing existing selected image to disappear when saving page and/or editing a page with existing image.
    if(this.SelectorType!=ConstImageSelectorType)
    if(this.AssetData.ManageLinkDisplayText)
    hasContent=hasContent && !!this.AssetData.AssetText;
    if( hasContent )
    if (this.ClearAssetButton !=null)
    this.ClearAssetButton.EnableButton();
    this.GetAssetSelectedPanel().style.display="inline";
    this.GetEmptyPanel().style.display="none";
    else
    if (this.ClearAssetButton !=null)
    this.ClearAssetButton.DisableButton();
    this.GetAssetSelectedPanel().style.display="none";
    this.GetEmptyPanel().style.display="inline";
    I hope this helps anyone else struggling with the same problem.
    Thanks!
    Øyvind

  • Images very "grainy" when opened in PS CC...why??

    Hey people! I'm pretty green when it comes to PS and I have ONE problem (i'll solve the others on my own...) I tested the free trial version of PS CC and all was sweet. After the trial I started to subscribe to PS and the problem is that when I open an image its all grainy, very grainy. Black and white images are super grainy and everything looks just bad.... What's going on? I use a PC, Win 7.
    Thank full for any help on this matter!
    Kind regards
    Neil

    If the images looked ok before, it could be a video driver issue. Try updating the driver and see if it fixes the issue.

  • PNG files are grainy when opened in Illustrator.

    Files that I create in Photoshop and save as PNG files are grainy and colored incorrectly when opened in Illustrator. The files are fine when opened in other programs. Please see the pictures below to illustrate my point. These are the same file, however, the first is the PNG file that I've saved in Photoshop and the second is how Illustrator renders the file.
    Original - Saved from Photoshop
    Rendered in Illustrator. Exported as PNG.

    It is PNG 24. It's super bizarre. I originally thought it was because the file began as a RAW file, but any file I export as a PNG gives me the same issue when opened in illustrator.

  • IPhoto album cover images are lost when I sync to my iPad and iPhone. Can I fix this?

    I have a few albums that I created with iPhoto on my Mac. I picked a cover image, and it has worked on the Mac, but when I view the albums on my iPad or iPhone, the cover image is just the default one - it isn't the one I picked. Can anyone suggest how to fix this?

    iPhoto on the Mac and on the iPhone are to totally different programs sharing only a name - at this time changes made in one do not sync to the other - only the photos that yu sync when you sync them are synced

  • Why does my high res photoshop image appear blurry when placed in InDesign and Exported as PDF?

    Hi there,
    I have a problem I've been trying to solve for days but just can't find the answer anywhere on the internet.
    I have a large, good quality photoshop file (2268 x 979 pixels, resolution 300 pixels per inch). When I place it into InDesign, the image appears OK (I've changed my display settings to HIGH) - I then resize it in InDesign to 10% and the file still looks great! Then, when I export it as PDF (high quality print) it looks blurry.
    Does anybody know why? The strangest thing is, I've placed other photoshop images in the same InDesign file and they look crystal clear. It is just this one I am having trouble with. I've saved it in the same folder as the other pictures, I've tried placing it as psd. , jpg. , photoshop pdf, png. everything...
    The image looks great in both photoshop and indesign, only when exported as pdf it looks awful.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated,
    Many thanks in advance!
    Weronika

    It's probably the extreme reduction -- you're throwing away 90% of the image pixels and interpolating, and then using jpeg compression on top.

  • Multiple images are blocky when converting from powerpoint to PDF?

    Heres my problem:
    If I have a powerpoint with ONE image (be it jpeg, gif, png, etc) they apper fine when you convert the document to PDF (via print>Print to PDF or by using the Acorbat plug in in Powerpoint).
    BUT
    If I have 2 or more images in a powerpoint slide, the images appear blocky and sections of the images are missing. I tried to ungroup the photos and group the photos yet I get the same result. Anyone know how to correct this??
    The images were originally created in Adobe Illustrator. There must be a setting in Illustrator or Powerpoint that is causing this problem but I cant figure it out.
    Thanks

    Correction, it appears to be a problem with the CROP button in Powerpoint. I have a PNG file and it has two images (a map and a legend) on one png. When I crop it to only show ONE image (either the map or the legend) it makes it become blocky. So weird.

  • Why does a fine JPG image turn grainy when uploaded online? Is my browser missing something?

    My "picture-perfect" JPG images become grainy or coarse when I upload them to imageshack.us, yahoo, etc.

    If Firefox also saves the images in low quality then you may have an ISP that sends the images compressed in lower quality to speed up the page loading.
    If you want to see the original image quality all the time then you need to contact your ISP and ask what to do to opt-out of that service or see if there is a FAQ about it on the web page of your ISP.

  • Advice needed regarding a - Adobe Photoshop Image 15 (.psd) - I can't open them correctly?

    Hi folks,
      I recently agreed to work on some art for a friend, he sent me some files that appear on my PC as Adobe Photoshop Image 15 (.psd) - Only when i open them in my Photoshop CC (All updates installed that are available from the time this was posted) they don;t appear to be the correct images? I have Google'd the phrase above but nothing appear on my searches that would enlighten me to what i may need to open these files correctly? can anyone let me know if the file type above is meant for Photoshop or one of the many additional programs within adobe's CC? If it is a Photoshop format then i apologies for time wasting and it may be that the file was corrupted possible before being sent?
       Thank you for your time.

    Does you friend also use Photoshop CC or does he use Photoshop CC 2014.  There may be some incompatibilities is some layers if he uses CC 2014..  However  CC should be able to open  .PSD file.   And Adobe Photoshop Image 5 type files like PSD, PDD extensions should be associated with Photoshop.

  • Images are blank when editing or viewing full size

    Installed iphoto v8.1.1 on a Mac Mini Server (OS X 10.6.2 Server) and having trouble with iphoto viewing the full images.
    In a new iphoto library I imported images (dragged a folder onto the iphoto icon). This brought in what appeared to be the images but it seems it's only the thumbnails. I can see the images within the events and in the list of photos. However when I double click a photo, nothing happens. If I click edit, I have the thumbs across the top but a black screen below. If I click a photo and select Full Screen from the the View menu, I also get the thumbs across the top and a blank/black screen.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    The !turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
