Installed Creative Cloud and trying to install Photoshop but just gets hung up and won't move on past 42%. Can't seem to cancel and restart/retry, or uninstall the program from my computer either.

Hi,

• Need Help.  Can't load photoshop.  Gets hung up at "Reading Global Resources"

I can't get photoshop to load.  It stops loading at "Reading Global Resources".  Currently running CS2 on windows Xp. Called Adobe, they won't support CS2 anylonger.  Need help please.

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.   A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

• Photoshop CC Install keeps getting hung up

Last week I purchased and set up a brand new imac running OS X 10.9.1.  I have Creative Cloud on my pc laptop and wanted to install my second allowable version onto the new Mac.  A few days ago I installed the Creative Cloud Installer, which seemed to install successfully, and then started to try to install Photoshop.  The installation was excrutiatingly slow and would get hung up before it ever reached 10%.  For a number of hours today, I have researched the problem through similar discussion threads here in the forum.  I have now unistalled Creative Cloud Installer, Restarted, run the cleaning files, Restarted, reinstalled the Installer and am attempting to download Photoshop again.  Unfortunately, I am running into the same problem once more.  I have also gone to the "driect download" link that was provided on a few of the discussion threads, but when I go to that web page it seems to only be intended for people to install a free trial version of the software.  I don't want a free trial version, I am already paying for Creative Cloud. Please help!
nicole

Trial versions are identical to the paid versions and with a proper licensing in place will function as such. You are shunning away from something that is a non-issue. The rest is neither here nor there. We don't know anything about your network connection or what else is going on. if it is really that slow, something may be wrong, but we can't know that based on your ratehr generic description....

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• TS1545 I have downloaded 10.5.8 combo several times and cannot get it to install because the disc won't mount or the installation gets hung up after restart. My current os is 10.5.1, and I am trying to upgrade to snow leopard. This is on a dual core macbo

I have downloaded 10.5.8 combo several times and cannot get it to install because the disc won't mount or the installation gets hung up after restart. My current os is 10.5.1, and I am trying to upgrade to snow leopard. This is on a dual core macbook pro.

You don't need to update to Leopard 10.5.8 unless you want to keep Leopard. Upgrading to Snow Leopard requires that your purchase the retail install disk.
The following covers Leopard:
Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• Upgraded to tiger, mail gets hung up on importing old messages.

I had my pwrbk tuned up and upgraded to Tiger. All files were swept onto a dvd for back up and just plopped back on again after the install. When I click on mail to 'mail' it wants to import my "existing Mail messages into the new version"... so I 'continue' as it requests and (sighhh) it procedes to import (sighhh) my 4500 or so (who's counting) messages. It gets hung up on #1363 (which I believe is in the 'sent' folder) and the time remaining keeps increasing...- I mean - I gave it a chance - the battery (brand spank me new) ran all the way down AND we plugged it in too ... it happens every time. How to bypass this import without deleting all my old emails and just excise the offending hanger-upper?

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Even if Mail didn’t freeze while importing, there is no guarantee that it would import the old mailboxes successfully. Take a look at the following thread for an example:
Just upgraded, Most of my old Inbox is gone!
You could apply the procedure described there to the mailboxes that Mail appears to be choking on. Alternatively, you could move the entire account folder out of ~/Library/Mail/ (to the Desktop) and manually import its mailboxes afterwards as Other.

• TS2296 Safari (Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11)) gets hung with Yahoo

Frequently Safari (Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11)) gets hung while trying to load a section of the Yahoo home page. It never recovers spontaniously. Using Quit from the File menu closes the window, but the icon in the dock shows that it is still running. Using Force Quit, the Safari icon in the dock returns to normal. Shut Down also hangs, and the only way to turn off the MacBook Pro is to hold down the start button.

• When i open photoshop i get a prompt to activate it, but it's already activated

Hello
I have already activated my education creative suite, but when i open photoshop i get a prompt to activate it (it still opens and runs fine).
I have looked this up and I have checked the help setting in photoshop, which has the deactivate option, so my product definately activated ok. why do i get the prompt to activate still? is there a problem with my software? I have also checked indesign and ilustrator and they all have deactive option in help, so the problem isn't with them either.
Thanks
Helen

Which operating system are you using?  What is the exact version of Photoshop which you have installed?  Have you install all of the available updates for Photoshop?

• Does having multiple versions of Photoshop installed effect performance in any?

I have a laptop with 8 gigs of RAM, Windows 7, i3 Intel processor, but Photoshop is very slow in responding and often I have to wait three minutes from the time I click the text entry tool until I can type, then each additional step, tool selection, whatever freezes Photoshop for several minutes. This is unacceptable, of course. Other software works normally.
I recently bought a new laptop with an i7 Intel processor, 12 gigs of RAM, and a GeForce graphics processor and the problem is even worse! CS6 locks up so long and so often I usually just load the Task Manager and end the process!
I have lots of fonts but doubt they could cause a problem this severe. Since the new laptop has a high definition screen, I need my font preview size to be at the largest size to see them clearly.
Now, I have 32 and 64 bit versions of CS6, CS5, and Photoshop Elements 10 and 12 installed. I don't use them at the same time, but I'm beginning to wonder whether they might cause some performance problems. (Photoshop installed both versions when I set up this computer in January, both CS5 & CS6. I downloaded CS5 because I was afraid that if CS6 got problematic, I could switch to CS5 and use that instead but the problem is terrible.) If the 64 bit version is giving me too much trouble, I'll switch to the 32 in hopes it will work better. But especially in the new computer, Photoshop never works well.
I bought the new laptop with the extra RAM and heavier duty processor to solve this problem in my old computer, which also has those versions of Photoshop installed. I don't use large files and do light graphic design work for my own use. The most resources intense thing I do is use smart object product mockups I buy online. I'm afraid the problem might be too many fonts but I don't want to get rid of any of them. I've too much invested in them.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I did transfer all my fonts from the Windows 7 computer to the new Windows 8 laptop. I use different external HDs on the computers but I do occasionally connect any of them to the other computer to transfer large sets of files.
No, Photoshop is on Drive C, the main internal drive on each.
Last night I turned off font file previews in the font menu. I got much better performance. Photoshop worked much better, other than when I made a block of text and wanted to click on it and move it. It froze up for about thirty seconds before letting me do that.
If this is a font management problem, should I get font management software? I don't know anything about such software. Do they allow you to load only the fonts you want to use, on the fly? I see one, Fusion 6, which has a CS6 plug-in, leading me to think I might be able to preview and use fonts without the drain on Photoshop's performance.
Do you have any opinions or advice in that regard?
