Photoshop interpreting monitor colors incorrectly
My issue is with my second monitor and the colors of Photoshop files. I am using a two monitor setup with my macbook laptop.
I process a Raw file using Lightroom 2. I export a Jpeg and it looks perfect when I open it in Preview, matching the Lightroom, when viewed on the second monitor screen. But, when I open that file in Photoshop it looks about 15% desaturated, when viewed on the same 2nd monitor.
The really wierd kicker is that as I drag the photo from the Macbook screen to the second monitor screen, while in photoshop, it looks fine. It only desaturates as I ungrab it (or unclick it if you prefer). I am speculating that photoshop is interpreting the monitor profile incorrectly or something..... any help out there?
So, I figured out a work around with the help of my friend. He stated that Photoshop can only work with one monitor profile. So I moved the arrangement of my displays so that the external display is the main one. Now PHotoshop looks just like Lightroom.
My new question is... Is there a way to have photoshop read my external display without having it be the main display in the systems preferences?
Thanks

Photoshop CS5 shows colors incorrectly on my CintiqUX21
All I know is that it is really just Photoshop, When viewing images or documents on the Cintiq they display the same colors as on my main monitor.
But when I draw something in Photoshop the colors are more saturated. This is especcially noticable when I undock the working space and drag it on my main monitor.
Testing with a rainbow gradient I can see that relative to my main monitor the purple gets darker and the blue gets stronger; almost turning into a solid bar rather than a gradient. The green also gets slightly lighter.
What am I doing wrong?Hmmm I've been working in sRGB IEC61966-2.1 Always have been, never really changed it.
Appearantly there is an option called Cintiq12wx.icc which seems to work better. (The blue is still a bit strong but it ain't no solid bar any longer)
It is a great improvement!
Thank you Mylenium! Good guess! -
Photoshop is printing colors Incorrectly
I recently updated my operating system to MAC OS 10.8 and as a result, Photoshop 5.5 no longer prints colors accurately. I corresponded with the tech department at Adobe for more than a week and we determined that my user settings did not migrate properly when I upgraded, resulting in skewed colors when printing from Photoshop. In running tests, we made a new "root" user and Photoshop printed correctly when using that user. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to fix my user settings/profiles so that my paper and printer profiles operate correctly in MAC OS 10.8 when printing from Photoshop?
I've spent more than a month already trying to resolve this issue. If anyone has had a similar problem or has any suggestions I would be extremely grateful!On a Mac, make sure Photoshop is fully Quit, then cold-start it, and immediately press and hold the Command - Option - Shift keys down. If you've gotten them down quickly enough Photoshop will prompt you to confirm deletion of the preferences, which will cause the automatic generation of default preferences.
Hope that helps!

For some reaon, when I launch iphoto, or any other photo program, my monitor changes to a different scheme. How can I make this stop? Thanks.
try disabling it, take a took at these snaps from my phone. Might not be really clear but can give you an idea
Hope this is clear,
Thanks for the suppport

Dual-monitor color management?
So I've got a dual-monitor setup running OS 10.7 on a Mac Pro, and color management in Bridge CS5.1 on my second screen is a mess. Both monitors have been individually calibrated with a Pantone Huey Pro (not perfect, but generally pretty consistent across screens).
Viewing an image in Bridge on my first screen, I have no problem. But the same image, when viewed on my second screen, appears heavily oversaturated. When I open the image in Photoshop or Preview, the color is accurate and is consistent across both screens. The below image illustrates the problem: the colors shown correctly in Photoshop (foreground) and incorrectly in Bridge (background). The Creative Suite color settings in Bridge show the settings as "synchronized" with the "North American General Purpose 2" default.
I'm sort of out of my depth here when it comes to color management. Do I have something set wrong? Is this a Lion-related bug? Any help would be appreciated.The way I have it set up is this: I have two synchronized windows, one on each of my two displays. In one I have a content panel, metadata, collections, etc. In the second window I just have a preview panel, supplying me with a full-screen (almost) preview of any thumbnail I select from the content panel in the other window.
Content (assuming thumbnails as well) panel preview on one display and the Preview panel preview on the other display are both being generated by one application and that is Bridge. Like I said above, I don't think, in fact I'm almost certain this is impossible for Bridge to pull off because of the dual matrices (mathematical formulas) written into each custom display profile that occupy the same video chip to calculate and control hue/saturation appearance in color managed images. Think of the complexity involved. Now Adobe is known for creating workflow miracles with their programming but I doubt they'ld be able to pull that off with Bridge.
Photoshop can pull this off having one image on one display and dragging to the other where it makes the adjustment on the fly. I've seen the quick shift that occurs doing this. But I don't think Bridge can do this because of it's caching structure. I hope an Adobe employee chimes in to correct me.
Now this dovetails into your mentioning forcing a display into the sRGB space during calibration and profiling of each display. This is not what happens doing a hardware calibration. I'm assuming you pick your target Luminance (120 cd/m2 +/-), Gamma (2.2. gamma-usually native) and Color Temp (6500K). It doesn't matter if you did anyway, but what the hardware calibrator does is measure each display's RGB colorant and density range and write the data into the final profile that allows applications like Colorsync Utility to display a 3D gamut model and color managed applications like Photoshop to show colors as intended.
Your display may be close to sRGB but never exact to it because sRGB is a synthetic (made up) color space. Your display has physical anomalies that must be measured and written into the profile to properly display the intended appearance of color referencing the CIELAB color space which is based on human vision. Everything about computerized color in a color managed workflow is based on mapping color to display properly according to gamut size. A computer is a dumb machine and has to be told everything using math. You actually do have to draw it a map to follow.
Bridge's Preview pane looking different may be either referencing the other display profile or is stuck referencing the other and what's happening is the equivalent of Assigning one of the display profiles to the Preview like you can do to an image in Photoshop. Try it. Take your image and convert to one of your display profiles and assign the other display profile to it. Check if you see a slight shift. If Bridge's main Preview pane is stuck showing pixels mapped to (synthetic) sRGB then the same assigning of the display profile effect takes place.
And/or the thumbnails aren't color managed and the Preview pane is and maybe a bit of the above is compounding things. If you aren't confused now can you imagine trying to mathematically write the thumbnail previews on one display and the main Preview on the other both controlled by one application on top of caching and managing a large image database?
Keep the Preview pane and Content pane on one display. Edit your images in Photoshop/ACR/Lightroom on the primary display.
The Color Settings where you select North American Prepress...Web...General Purpose...etc. only applies to how images are handled and previewed that don't have an embedded profile. Are your jpeg images embedded with a profile? If so then this is not the issue. This doesn't apply to Raw captures because their previews are generated by the default Adobe Camera Raw settings.
Omke, no more Version Cue? That's welcome news! -
I'm trying to bring in a design from Photoshop to Muse, and it's rendering the colors incorrectly. For example, I have a very vibrant red, rasterized shape that Muse is rendering as a duller pink. I couldn't find any answers on why this is happening or how to fix it. Any tips? Thanks!
I tried it now with another image.
This is my original:
This is the same image after HTML-output by Muse:
And this is a screenshot. Left side Original in Photoshop, right side placed in Muse:
The colors of picture 1 and 2 are absolutely (visual and measured) identical
The colors of the screenshots differ a little bit (measured, but not visually, because a screenshot uses the monitor profile and not sRGB.
In my constellation, colors are absolutely ok. -
The monitor colors were abnormal
My Mac air has an external monitor, Dell u2414h, connected through DP cable ( Mini-DP to DP). In these days, I encountered a monitor color issue, might be a bug or a hardware problem, maybe someone have this experience to confirm that, thanks in advance.
the process:
1. The Mac air connected to the external monitor, Both of the internal an external monitors are used normally;
2. closed the Mac air lid, the external monitor was still opening at this time and the OS X system can be operated normally;
3. I left the notebook to do other things;
4. About five minutes later the external monitor went to sleep;
5. More than one hour later, I came back, the OS X system was sleep, opened the lid;
6. Both of the internal and external monitors' colors were abnormal, some application icons and the desktop wallpaper had red blocks; These red blocks on the desktop wallpaper didn't disappear automatcally, must to replace a new wallpaper;
The system.log has "GPU hang:" and "Trying restart GPU ..." messages;
The loginwindow crashed, and saved a crash report;
This issue occured several times;

Is monitor calibration the same as setting color profile in System Preferences Monitor Color?
I understand monitor calibration using something llike X-Rite or Gretag, but what about the sRGB/Adobe RGB/Generic thing in System preferences>Monitor>Color? Is the latter for printing purposes? What should I select when doing post processing on Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop Elements?
{quote:}After working on my photographs in Lightroom and setting them to Jpegs, I take them to a printshop (semi professional). Would the personal setting on my iMac make any differences to him for printing???{quote}
Yes your Display Profile will slightly affect your finished product, but if that RGB profile is working for you then don't try and fix it. However if you do professional or semi professional work, then you might want to consider using professional calibration tools to calibrate your display.
See > http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/
{quote:}What do you use most on your iMac?{quote}
I only do amateur photo work and then print them on an Epson printer. When editing and printing photos, I use the Epson sRGB Display Profile that was installed along with my Epson software and always get great results. -
Hi all,
I would love to know if there is a way to ***disable the monitor (color) profile**** in LR.
WHY?
Cause all my pictures seems yellowish in LR, and not anywhere else (firefox, i.e, photoshop, xnview, etc...)
I solved the same problem in PHOTOSHOP, this way :
when loading images in photoshop, during starting up, I got this very message :
" The monitor profile 'LG L245WP' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. "
with two possible options :
"Ignore profile" or "use anyway"
Then if I use "Ignore profile" everything is fine!
If I select "use anyway" --> Wrong, all my pictures are yellowish.
That's why I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW, pleaaaaaase if I can do the same in LR.
I personnally didn't find, or what else I should do ?! Knowing that I do not have a ...too expensive!... calibration tool , and my monitor is a LG, L245WP.
----> Thanx sooo much for your help.
I would love to use LR, but this way I can't...

form PARIS france ( excuse my english level).
NB : I read 2 threads here , but didn't find my solution : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/414524
and : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415180
NB : in one of these I downloaded this RGB picture :
http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2161301-16291/Farbprofil-Kontrolle_re dgreenblue.jpg
where mostly the white in LR appears to be yellow.
Looks fine anywhere else, and in photoshop, if "Ignore profile" is selectedDdeGannes, Sean : thanx.
I went to my vista profil , added a profile in relation with my screen... but then which on should I select , between the several sRGB options :
- WCS profile : sRGB a file named wsRBG.cdmp
or
- ICC profile : sRGB IEC 61966-2.1 ?
( of course I have many more... but....none of the others are sRGB profiles )
Then have you both a calibrator, and you both did all the color "chain" from CAMERA to PRINTER ?
I am asking.... cause all these adjustments + buying a calibrator seems tough to me to manage/achieve.
You know : I'm not a professional ...
To me, non - pro, it looks even more dangerous to do so than leaving evreything in default mode & presets...
Should I do something wrong...
NO?
Moreover I mean : this is odd that my computer , or/AND (?) screen ,
doesn't have a "default setting" which would be suitable in LR , at least which no colour shift !
( I just change my LG screen mode to 5600K etc... and still I have the same yellowish gap in LR )
Why would my color management just be wrong in LR or Photoshop ?
Doesn't this light something I miss to you both, maybe professionals?
If I read you fine, + the other website... everything is kind of automatic now in every softwares... even xnview, firefox, (not i.e.) etc...
so why just LR + photoshop, would be mistaken on my computer,
and Firefox, Xnview, CANON softwares, Painter, ... all show the right profile & colors ???? This is sooooooo weird....to me.
I mean I got the the point that my whole color management is unshure...
but it nevertheless it should BE THE SAME through all my softwares... NO ?
Isn't there a general ADOBE setting somewhere, that might be bugged instead?
I still think , according to that, that we are missing something.
Sorry to bother you with my thoughts....
kiwiii ( paris - france )
ps/ Does really Photoshop detect the changes I would do directly on my screen ?
Because when I switch from sRGB, to 6500 K , 9300K or user... on my screen,
I STILL HAVE the PHOTOSHOP ERROR message :
" The monitor profile 'LG L245WP' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. "
I mean PHOTSHOP doesn't seem to notice (give a damn) on any change I make !?
As for the rest of my computer I never changed any COLOR PROFILE anywhere... So how do people do without a calibrator to use LR ?
Is it possible at least?
Is my screen (i thought so good) totally bugged, if none of my color profile is "ok" for photoshop & LR ?
THANX AGAIN FOR READING and helping me... -
Monitor color profile, fast switch script
Hi everyone,
I often switch between two monitor color profile, the default one "LED Cinema Display" and the calibrated one, named with the date of calibration (ex:"22June2011").
Is there a way to fast switch between this two with a script, without entering in monitor preferences and move to color tab every time? Maybe set an icon on the menu bar... Or an icon on the dock...
Thanks,
FilippoMore important, the question is not about color management, is about scripting.
Otherwise we're just wasting words, that doesn't seem the right place to speak about profiling...
Do you want help or not? What you're asking has everything to do profiling and color management. You're going about the use of profiles for your monitor completely wrong.
Any profile is an image of how that, and only that device displays, captures or reproduces color. The only monitor profile that makes any difference is one you create. Since you're using i1Profiler, then you must be using an i1 Pro to profile the monitor.
The monitor profile you made with i1Profiler is the only one you should be using. It is an exact description of the white point, black point, gamut and color range of the monitor you are looking at. The canned profile has nothing to do with the monitor in front of you. It's a generic average that is just short of completely useless since it is not a direct description of the monitor you own. Forget the "LED Cinema Display" profile, or any other canned profile on the system.
I can only assume you're trying to simulate CMYK color in Photoshop. To do that, your start with the monitor profile you have. To create a meaningful CMYK simulation, you need to create your own inks file to use as your CMYK color space in Photoshop. -
Photoshop CS5 ruining color now?
Hi all.
I captured a screen shot on my Mac using Grab, and pasted it into Photoshop. The color was way off, with a pinkish cast added. You can see a comparison here; the original is on the left and Photoshop is on the right.
I brought this split-screen shot into PS and the cast got even worse. I tried both TIFFs and PNGs, and Photoshop is wrecking the color. I can't find any explanation in the settings. Any ideas? PS is pretty much unusable at this point.Mobius Strip, discussing the profile of screen grabs is all distracting twaddle…
Since you don't seem to be aware of this, your Color settings are located here Edit > Color Settings. You need to make sure these settings match in CS4 and 5, and that no "Convert to…" settings are switched on in either. 'Convert To…" will automatically convert opened documents to your default profiles, specified in this dialog. Which you don't want.
You need to develop some basic understanding of Color Management.
what is Photoshop displaying when "proof color" is off? Because it's not what other apps are showing from the same files.
It is attempting to display the actual colors contained within the document. Whatever profile that document may be in. It uses the monitor profile, which it assumes to be accurate, to do this. This attempt is restricted only by the full gamut (range of colors) available on your monitor.
There were no changes to Color Management features between Photoshop CS4 and CS5. In every resect they will display colors the same. To be 100% sure than Photoshop is behaving the same in both cases, make sure also that Open GL is consistently switched on or off for both versions. -
Photoshop and working color spaces
In how many color spaces Photoshop can work correctly?
Can only work with gamma 1.8 and 2.2 ones or even with linear or L* gamma color spaces?
It is enough that the working spaces has RGB=0 0 0 mapped to L*=0 and RGB 255 255 255 mapped to L*=100?
Thank you
MarcoI don't know where in the past I read that in Photoshop the curves, levels and so on work correctly only if the image encoding color space has: pure black (L*=0) mapped to 0 0 0, pure white (L*=100) mapped to 255 255 255, the gray axis effectively acromathic (a,b=0) and the gamma encoding is 1.8 or 2.2.
These are the reasons because (I read) in the working RGB color space is not advisable choosing the monitor color profile.
Thank you for your considerations

Monitor Color Profile Coming In With Windows Update
I recently had to revisit the color-management logic in my software, owing to a monitor profile showing up and being installed on users' machines through Windows Update.
Specifically, for some reason a VMware virtual machine running 32 bit Windows 7 is now considered to have an Acer monitor, rather than a "Generic Plug n Play Monitor" (which actually made more sense).
This is the specific Windows Update that brought it in:
Beyond the obvious problem (of a virtual machine not actually having a physical monitor, certainly not an Acer S271HL in this case), this Windows Update is installed with virtually no fanfare. Though as a rule I set my own systems to notify me but not install updates, and I do actually read about the updates Microsoft is proposing installing on my system, most folks don't - they simply allow Windows Update to do its thing without much thought.
This particular monitor profile wasn't bad per se, but it did have an attribute that I didn't anticipate in my color-management implementation. Photoshop seemed to deal with it okay - in this case it was just my plug-ins that didn't (all fixed now). But sometimes we see monitor profiles that aren't okay pushed on users, and they throw Photoshop and other color-managed applications off unexpectedly for users. This profile was set active, overriding the Windows default that was previously set. Would it have overridden a profile (e.g., made with a calibrator/profiler) that had been explicitly set on a system? Not sure. But if so that would have been bad!
Does it seem that Microsoft may be trying to become more aggressive about pushing color-management out to users? If that's the case, wouldn't you think they should fully implement color-management in their own software - e.g., in their browsers? Conveniently, Internet Explorer wasn't affected by this update, because it ignores monitor profiles.
Please excuse my little rant to let off a little frustration over unexpected system changes. Thanks for reading.
-NoelNo, actually the System Default stayed the same, but the ACER profile showed up in the Devices panel. However, [ ] Use My Settings was NOT checked, implying they found some way to install the profile that's outside the normal configuration settings somewhere between the Advanced and Devices level configuration.
The fix is to check the [ ] Use My Settings box, add the profile one wants to use in the Devices panel, and [Set as Default Profile]. This overrides the setting above.

Hi There,
Just wondering in the photoshop CS6 Color settings, "Edit\Color Settings" should the profile be set to monitor color if I have a calibrated monitor, or one of the other settings such as the default.No.
It is definitely not a good idea to set your monitor profile as your RGB working space. I would choose one of the Europe or North America Presets. -
Touchsmart monitor colors suddenly reverse
A few days after the trial period for Windows 8 expired I booted up to find that the monitor colors were reversed. What was black was now white, etc. I thought it was something Microsoft had done to provoke me to hurry up and buy 8, but after removing 8 and installing Linux Mint the problem continued. Someone suggested that it might be the video card since, they claim, Touchsmarts tend to cause the video card to overheat. Has anyone had this problem and how was it solved?
