Photoshop Keeping Resolution When Cropping

Hi
Here in the office we have CS4, CS5, and CS6. CS4 and CS6 work fine but in CS5, If we set an image resolution then crop the image it will not keep the resolution we set.
We have tried the resample image on and off. We have tried it with and without a background and nothing seems to work. Is there is special setting in CS5? As I said no issues with 4 & 6.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

What operating system are you using cs5 on?
Are you entering a resolution in the Crop Tool options or setting the resolution in Image>Image Size before cropping?
Have you tried restting the Crop Tool and/or resetting the photoshop cs5 preferences?

  • Photoshop CS6 crashing when crop/resize on Mac OS 10.9.5

How do we troubleshoot when photoshop crashes several times a day?? seems to happen most when cropping images.
On the adobe website it's saying there's online chat support within 90 days of activation - but have been around in circles and not found this option. such an expensive product not to have proper support, especially as I read most articles in this discussion group are unresolved.
I have the crash logs - the only meaningful part to me is :
Exception Codes are pointing to EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV), KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000010. Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread.
(further down) - Error Code 0x00000004. Trap number 14.
I can't see any additional plug-ins installed, and can paste the full crash report here if anyone's interested in reading it!

Ask in the PS forum and provide exact system information. Most such issues can simply be attributed to hardware acceleration issues, in this case most likely overlay drawing issues with the crop preview. Turn that stuff off in the prefs and see if it makes a difference.

  • My printer setting box has changed and photoshop keeps crashing when I open printer settings

My CS6 keeps crashing when I open printer settings, and the printer setting dialog window has changed

    Possibly corrupt preferences.
Hold down Ctrl-alt-shift keys and start Photoshop. A dialog offering to delete the settings should appear. Answer "Yes".
    cmd-alt-shift if that's a Mac.

  • How can I retain resolution when cropping?

When I zoom in, the resolution is clear and crisp.  However, when I crop to the same level, it becomes blurry.  Perhaps it is automatically resizing, but if so, how do I turn that off?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, a DVD-Video is set in resolution, to 720 x 480 (for NTSC), in either Standard 4:3, or Widescreen 16:9. That is as good as it can get, and is not a limitation of PrE, but of the DVD-Video specs, which were written a long time ago.
The best that one can get is to play that DVD-Video on an up-rezzing DVD player, or most BD players, that also have up-rezzing, to an HD TV monitor. Those players have dedicated chips, JUST for up-rezzing.
Then, and per Peru Bob's questions, I attain the ultimate Still Images to DVD-Video, by doing my Scaling in Photoshop, and using either the Bicubic Sharper, or Bicubic Smoother Scaling algorithms. I Scale my Camera RAW Images to match my Project's Frame Size, and Crop, where necessary to match the Aspect Ratio of my Images, to the Aspect Ratio of the Project, i.e. if going to a 16:9 Widescreen, I will lose some pixels top and bottom, but I account for that, per my asesthetic.
Note: some PrE users insist that the Scaling in PrE is as good as Photoshop's, but my critical eyes point to using PS. Also, I do NOT use JPEG, which is a lossy, compressed format, and will Save_As PSD from Photoshop, for ultimate quality.
Good luck, and please let us know the pixel x pixel dimensions of your Images.

  • Photoshop keeps crashing when saving

This is the event log for the crash. It crashes randomly and the user is working with small files and maybe a maximum of 10 layers if that. The issue usually comes up when trying to save a file.

You seem to be running an obsolete version of Adobe CS6 .  You need to update it to the latest version for your Windows platform.
In the Mac it would be 13.0.6. I'm too lazy to check on Windows for you.
Just use the Photoshop Help menu > Updates.

  • Maintaining high resolution when cropping/resizing photo

Does the 6.0 version of iPhoto allow one to maintain 300 dpi resolution after a photo has been cropped or resized to scale? I am currently using version 5.0.4 and this action is not possible. Thanks in advance.

    undunverant:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Essentially yes. It may appear that the resolution gets changed but in reality just the method of stating it changes. A picture out of my camera is 1600 x1200 x180dpi. Photo shop will show it to be 8.888 inches x 6.666 inches in size. If it export it out of iPhoto and check the resolution it's apparently been changed to 1600 x1200 x72dpi. But if you check it in PS again, the size in inches has changed to 22.222 inches x 16.666 inches. The total number of pixels are the same. Just the size in inches has changed. But the bottom line is that the resolution will be the same, just stated differently.

  • Updated Acrobat 10.1.13 keeps crashing when cropping

Just updated to 10.1.13 and now when I use the crop tool, the application crashes. I still have 9 on my system and the file crops just fine. I was able to crop prior to update with various files and today nothing is working. I have restarted Mac after installation to no avail. Also the crop tool icon shows pressed, after selected,  even when on other tools have been selected after it. When first clicking the crop tool, thing happens. If I double click there is now a 4 to 5 second delay before the dialogue box appears. I am able enter crop co-ordinates but when I apply, the program hangs for a few seconds and then crashes, generating a crash report. Frustrating. Any ideas on a fix?

    Hi adfab,
Are you still facing this issue?
First we dont recommend two different version of Acrobat on same machine.
Secondly you may try below mentioned steps and let me know if that helps:
        1. Start you Mac in Safe Mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
        2. Once you are in Safe mode, Disk repair using Disk utility: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/repair-disk-permissions-and-repair-disk
        3. If the above steps didn’t help, you may try to enable root account and check the issue from there

  • Photoshop CS4 crashing when opening a file (any file)

I have the Adobe Master Collection.  Photoshop keeps crashing when I try to open a file.  I have tried several files and tried creating a new file.
All other applications work fine.  Please help me as I urgently need to hand in an assignment.
I have uninstalled the Master Collection and reinstalled.  To be honest I am getting no proper support when I call the technical department.  I hold on for ages, get cut off, speak to someone who sounds half asleep.  This issue has been going on for over a week now.
    I would appreciate any advice!!

You don't want Photoshop open to reset the preferences!
You must reset your peferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.    A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • CS3 Photoshop keeps crashing

Not having the best of luck with Adobe support(web support tells me to seek voice support, voice support advises me to seek web support, and the loop continues) so I hope someone here has an idea of what I need to do since I'm just about ready to can these programs!
This is on the CS3 Web Premium suite. Everything worked fine until recently when opening two images in Photoshop causes the program to crash. It doesn't matter what the size or the format of the images are. Even trying to start a new image with one open will crash it. Now its spreading to my Dreamweaver and that program will let me open as many files as I want, I can sync with the web server, and I can edit text IF I don't highlight it. Selecting an image, highlighting text, and trying to change stuff in code all causes Dreamweaver to crash and close exactly like Photoshop does.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times already and these are the only programs giving me issues as Fireworks, Illustrator, Acrobat, Flash, and all my other programs work perfectly. I have also used CS3Clean after one of the uninstalls and still had no luck. On a side note, neither of the programs tell me why they crashed, I just get a dialog to send an error report.
**EDIT** Forgot to add system specs:
    XP SP3
    Core 2 Duo 4400
    4GB RAM
    250GB system drive @ 24% capacity
    500GB mirrored working drives @ 83% capacity
The system drive and the working drives have been checked for consistency and passed.

Alright, thank you for the tips.
    To elaborate on my situation:
    Photoshop:
I am not running 2 versions, I used adobe updater to upgrade from version 10.0 to 10.0.1
    OS:
I didn't downgrade, sorry for the confusion, I tried to run photoshop on both 10..5.2 and 10.5.3 and they both cause the same problem.
I also tried disk repair; and permission repair as well as a complete reinstall of the os.
    Drivers:
Latest wacom drivers are installed, photoshop seems to be stable without the drivers when the tablet is recognized only as a mouse; not a pressure sensitive device.
No font damage detected; clean photoshop preferences did not seem to matter as I was running on a clean install, both OS and Photoshop wise.
All read / write permissions are on because I am running in administrator mode.
    Current status:
    Running OSX 10.5.4
Photoshop 10.0.1 (updated via adobe updater)
Wacom 608-2 drivers on an intuos3 tablet
Photoshop keeps crashing when using the tablet with drivers installed; usually when trying to paint.
Thanks so far; more suggestions etc are welcome.

  • I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop digitally but when i activated adobe I keep getting this error message Adobe Premiere Elements.exe - NO DISK. There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive/device/harddisk/dr1

I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop digitally but when I activated adobe I keep getting this error message Adobe Premiere.exe - NO DISK - There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive/device/harddisk/DR1

It sounds like you downloaded the wrong application, namely Adobe Premiere Elements.
If you meant Adobe Photoshop Elements, you're in the wrong forum.  This is not the Elements forum.
Here's the link to the forum you want:

If you mean Photoshop proper, since you are posting in the Photoshop forum, give version details and your system specs.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • How to keep 300dpi resolution when saving a jpeg from illustrator

I have an illustrator cs4 file set up in 300 dpi. when I save it into a jpeg, it automatically downsizes it to 72 dpi and the quality of the image is really bad. how do i keep a 300 dpi resolution when I save my document to a jpeg file from illustrator?

    Use file >> export >>jpeg>resolution >> custom 300
Sounds like you were using save for web.

  • How to keep original aspect ratio when cropping in Camera Raw?

How to keep original aspect ratio when cropping in Camera Raw? Cant figure it out! With shift, the aspect ratio is 1:1. But I didnt set it to 1:1 (I checked "normal").

The Shift key works once you’ve set your crop ratio.  DSLRs would typically do 2:3 and others sometimes do 3:4.
