Photoshop layers not appearing

Hi,
Usually when I import a .psd I get a pull down box asking if I want to import all layers or merge them together. But lately, I can only get it to pop up randomly. It keeps importing the psd as one single picture. What gives?
The psd is had 8 layers, less the 4000 pixels, RGB. and 8-bit. Am I just importing the file wrong?

You have to drag it and hold it over the area and wait for the popup to select to import the layers separately. If you just drag and drop without waiting, Motion defaults to merged...

Photoshop Layers not importing

Hi,
I've had this work in the past, a few months ago, but with a new project and a new file I'm not getting any layers to show through in DVDSP 4.1.2. In the info box, it says that the file is importing as a 'QuickTime Picture' and 'Layers: 0'. In reality it is a Photoshop layered file, 720 x 480. I even tried simplifying it and only have 4 layers in it, but still no go. I'm using CS3.
Any ideas? Old photoshop files import with layers...

The issue for me was bit depth. DVD Studio Pro only uses 8 bit images. The PSD's I was creating were 16bit. This caused DVDSP to ignore the layers and only display the composite.
Photoshop has added full 16 bit support in recent years so you might not notice that you are working on a 16-bit image.

Photoshop does not appear in Product List

I am on Mac O/SX 10.9.4. I have installed Extension Manager CC (version 7.0.0.347) and Photoshop CC 2014 (20140508.r.58 x64). I would like to use the GuideGuide (GuideGuide) extension in photoshop. I opened Photoshop, clicked on "Help > Manage Extensions...". Extension Manager opens up. Takes a while to load. Upon loading, no products appear in the "products" pane, only a grey square with the word "Others" next to it. When I try to install the extension I get the following error: "This extension can not be installed, it requires Photoshop version 12 or greater".
I have used the following script: BridgeTalk.__diagnostics__; in ExtendScript Toolkit with the following results:

Please update Extension Manager to the latest version 7.2.1. CC 2014 applications are supported only by EM 7.2.0 and higher.

Animation layers not appearing

Hi, I am using PS CS5 and having trouble keeping layers visible when using animation. I find that after setting animation sequencing for layers using the green bars in the animation window that the layer does not reappear even after I reset all green bars to the full width of the window. Hard to explain, but imagine I have four layers set so that each layer covers a quarter of the window. Then when I push the timeline cursor along, each layer appears in turn. But then I decide I want to re-edit some images and I reset all the green bars to full width by dragging them all out. What I find is that some layers will no longer appear as visible, whether I turn them on or off in the layer palette.
Every layer looks exactly the same in the animation timeline, clickong the 'eye' in the layer palette has no effect.
Any help very much appreciated - even just how to get rid of the animation and set things back to PS as a normal static editor

Mac Photoshop layers not visible to Windows user

I'm using Photoshop CS6 Extended on a Mac. My client requested a PSD file saved with layers, which I provided. Her web developer is on Windows CS6 and is unable to see the layers in the file. Do you know why the layers are not visible to the Windows user?

Look under your PS Preferences > File Handling
How are you sending the file? Some email programs can alter files.
If you are saving a separate copy for your Windows users, see that layers is checked in the dialog.

PSD layers not appearing in the layered menu inspector?

I am working in DVDSP trying to build a layered menu but when I import the PSD file the layers don't appear in the inspector?
when I click on the Photoshop files in DVDSP's assets tab, the inspector tells me they are QuickTime Pictures with no layers! I have opened the files in Photoshop though and they are PSDs, with layers.

First I would check to see what software my system was using to automatically open .psd files. Sometimes when you install other programs they claim the right to open these files. Close down all open software. Go to Windows Explorer, find a .psd file, right click on it and choose properties, under type of file choose Change and then choose Photoshop to open the file and tick the box that says use all the time. Click okay. Hopefully that will prevent you from having to re-install anything. Peace, BJ

"Glass" Effect Lettering Created In Photoshop Does Not Appear Correctly.

I have made some "glass" effect transparent titles in Photoshop by putting a normal title over a transparent background, adding an inner glow and bevel and then reducing the Fill Opacity to zero.
This is how it should look:-
However, when I import it into FCE/FCP and superimpose it over video the title usually looks solid black - as it did originally before I reduced the Fill Opacity.
I have tried every combination of Composite mode I can find in FCE/FCP to no avail.
Is it possible to show it the way it is intended and if so, can anyone suggest where I am going wrong?

Hi(Bonour)!
Start with a transparent background in photoshop. Compose your title document (yopu can put a reference layer at bottom of the stack to see how title will appears on your image clip- if so, pay attention to make this backgroud inactive upon exporting) and save in PNG format (this format save the alpha channel-transparency- with your graphic elements).
Import in FCE, and compose your title over your video clip.
Use normal composite mode.
You can also use Boris title or livetype to achieve the same result.

I know this has been covered a few times already, but none of the previous threads about it were able to help my situation.
Ok so here is what i did:
Exported a JPEG from a timeline in FCP. Brought that JPEG into PS (i am using CS3), and changed the image size from 1920x1080 to 720x480. Then saved as a JPEG, didn't tick any boxes, just used default save as settings.
I then brought those images into my Encore DVD Project, added them to the library, then placed one into a already made menu, and "sent to back".. so it became the new background. I did this with two menu's today. Note i have actually done this same exact process many times without problem. I then tried to build a dvd image of the project, and i got the "this file does not appear to be a photoshop file". Now it won't even let me open those menu's (plus another one, which i made a long time ago, and have even successfully built DVD's with), to edit them. I tried removing all the new JPEGS i added today, from the library, but still i get the same message.
The menu's that i now can't open, took a very long time to make, and i need to have this DVD completed ASAP.. as it is being released world wide in a couple of weeks and i need to get it replicated. So i don't actually have time to remake these menu's. So if anyone can help me, that would be much appreciated, as i have studio exec's cracking down on me.

Now, if one Imports the JPEG with its extension changed to PSD as a Menu, then the Menu is created, including the necessary Layers. The Menu is NOW a PSD, and when Opened in PS will reflect the Layer structure (try this at home). If one had constructed Buttons in the JPEG, they would now only be graphics on that one single Background Layer in the JPEG. They would not function as Buttons, but could be useful graphics for other things. One would then need to add real Button Layer Sets to the PSD to be able to add any navigation.
Back in the post above, I suggested doing the Save_As to JPEG to see how things get changed. Use that in another test - Import that JPEG as a Menu. In Encore, try to Link to what had originally been Buttons in that Imported JPEG. What happens? Can you Link to them, even though you are now working with the created PSD?
Now, add a Button, or two, from the Library. Choose Edit in Photoshop, and look at the Layer and Layer Set structure. Things have changed from the original JPEG, with only the Background Layer. You now have that Library Button's Layer Set structure.

The only way to Import that JPEG into Encore as a Menu would be to change the file extension to PSD, but what appear to be Buttons would NOT be Buttons, but just static pixels in the Background.

I was searching on the forums and found that some other people have had this problem, but I didn't see any solutions.
When I try to build my DVD from Encore, I get this error "This fiel does not appear to be a Photoshop file.
I created my menu in Photoshop CS4, imported it as a menu. When I preview in Encore it works fine?
The photoshop file is 8 bit color...should it be 16? I tried that to, but it doesn't seem to change anything?

I'm going to try a little vertical blur like you said to see what happens.
Well, the Vertical Blur will not work there. The Sub-picture Highlights cannot have any Styles, or Filters added to them. What I do to "simulate" a "glow" is to to create a second Sub-picture Highligh, in the next Layer down (in the same Button Layer Set)t, ever so slightly larger. I then set it's Transparency in Encore to be about 50%-30% of what the "original" Sub-picture Highlight's Transparency was. You can also assign another number from the Menu Color Set (this is done in PS), and then adjust that number's value in Encore to be a shade lighter of the original Sub-picture Highlight's. You will end up with maybe a 2 and a 3, and need to pick those colors from a Custom Color Set in Encore - cannot be done in PS, at least through CS3 and I do not believe in CS4 either. Because of the wealth of Functional Content, stock music and Menus, etc., you might want to spend a bit of time poking around there.
Though most of the article and discussion revolve around removing part of the Sub-picture Highlight, the final steps are for adding what appears to be a Blur. Remember, you only have ON, OFF, COLOR (limited to 4, including the background) and TRANSPARENCY, for each pixel in a Sub-picture Highlight. That's why you cannot have Styles, or similar. You have to create the illusion.
Also, I created my lower third in Photoshop and saved out a .PNG file to import into Premiere.
When I play the DVD, there seems to be some noise in the title. Do you think that's because of how

I do not know. I have never used the PNG format. Instead, I create all of my Titles (the ones that I do outside of Titler) in PS, often using AI for shapes, that will be Rasterized in the process. I do my Titles there, and then Save_As .PSD. If I wish to animate some of the Layers, I'll Import as a Sequence, if not, I Import as Footage. I always start from the image Preset to match my Project, so frame size and PAR are right to begin with. The only reason that I can think of for using PNG is the Transparency, but PSD offers that, and so much more.
There is much that one can do with the animation of PSD Layers in PrPro. It's not as powerful, or as full-featured, as is AE, but many are surprised at how good it is.
Best news is that you are almost there, and that things looked good on the DVD. If you have any trouble following the steps for the simulated Glow in the second Sub-picture Highlight, just let me know. It's been a whle, since I wrote that, and might need to re-visit it myself.

I tried to delete the layer attempt again. I am in a Photoshop class, but the work is all online, so all my teacher is going to do is send me to this site. I am trying to edit a photo for this class, and without this working, i go to filter>render>light effects. the bar and panel will pop up for about 2 seconds, then disappear. How do i get the options bar and properties panel to display?

I was about to suggest resetting LE from the Workspace drop-down top right corner, but if you can't see the Options Bar, I guess that is not going to happen. The normal Tool reset is grey out for LE, so it might be a case of resetting Preferences.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked

When opening a file of any type in Photoshop (CS4), the windows will not appear. Photoshop will open and I can see the layers on the right but the document window will not come up no matter what I try. I try closing down everything, double-clicking a layer, opening multiple windows, etc.. Any thoughts?

Can you post a screenshot of your entire Photoshop screen with a file loaded in and the layers panel showing?

File Place does not appear on my menu. Neither does Tools Photoshop Image processor.

In Bridge File>Place is grayed out on my menu. Tools>Photoshop>Image processor does not appear at all. I have reset the preferences numerous times and am good to go until I shut down my computer. When I reboot they are gone again. I have a Mac with OS 10.10.2 (Yosemite) and CC.

Well, that's fine for the OS, but sometimes not so great for Photoshop. Try QUITTING Photoshop from the Photoshop menu, or by Command Q, before you get anywhere near your Apple menu .
Gene gave you sound advice, but don't forget to run Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility before and after any installation, upgrade or update of the OS or any application.
You'd think that shouldn't be necessary, but it is indeed vital, indispensable routine maintenance.
Forget about "it had never happened before", Yosemite is a work in progress. Apple never gets a major OS X release right until about the dot four or five release, so Yosemite has a way to go before it's at 10.10.4 or 10.10.5. That has proven to be the nature of the beast.
