Photoshop 'Live'

This may be more of a suggestion than a question. I am thinking about setting up a website, mobile and iPad app that will allow users to add and remove elements, layers, and so on to a background layer. Do any of the Adobe applications have this feature? Any plugins?

You might want to pick up the PS SDK, and also post in the SDK Forum.
Good luck,

  • Change anchor point on Photoshop Live 3D image?

It is possible to change the anchor point on a Photoshop Live 3D model?
I've imported a (.obj) 3D model into Photoshop (CS5.5) Live 3D layer (in order to be able to export as a PS Live .PSD and import into After Effects) howver I need to change the anchor point to one of the 4 corners, rather than dead centre which is the default. I thought it would easy just to import the .PSD file into After Effects and move the anchor point in there, but this seems impossible. So, can the anchor point be moved inside of Photoshop before I export it?
    Mike.

What do you mean by »Photoshop Live 3D«?
If you need to change the 3D-object’s mesh I’m afraid that will have to be done outside of Photoshop.
But if you could post a mock-up or screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible the issue might get clearer.

  • Keep Photoshop live effect (inner glow) with transparent background

I currently have a circle with a background color and a photoshop live effect of an inner shadow.  I'm trying to set the background to transparent, but when I do so, the inner glow becomes invisible.  Can someone please offer some tips on how to keep the inner glow with the background being transparent?  The only thing I could figure out was lowering the opacity, but then the true color of the background doesn't come through.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You could create the effect you want in the following way_
Drag out an ellipse with the vector ellipse tool on Fireworks. Fill it with the color you want the inner glow to be. Change the fill from solid to a radial gradient. Open the gradient editor and make sure that both colors of the gradient are the same. The color chip on the left side of the gradient ramp is the one that controls color in the center of the ellipse. The black chip above it controls opacity. Click on the black chip and change the opacity to 0. Adjust the position of the fill handle and the chips on the ramp to get the effect that you want.

  • Photoshop-Live-Effect: outer Glow Question

    Hello everybody
Well after my positive impression about my first Post here, I hope, that someone can help me again.
My problem is: In the Photoshop-Live-Effects, Category "Outer Glow" (Äußeres Glühen) is in the Part "Quality" (Qualität) the Option "random value" (Zufallswert).
Well, when would be this option works?
In Photoshop does this function only works, if the outer glow has a gradient, but that is in Fireworks not possible, as far as I know...

Photoshop Live Effects are still new to me, as I just recently upgraded from Fireworks 8. This post from Jim Babbage echoes what Linda just said about them (that is, they help to maintain continuity between Photoshop and Fireworks):
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2862805#2862805
The case of "Jitter" is interesting though. It can only be applied in Photoshop and only if the gradient option is chosen. Yet when I tried this, and then opened the PSD file in Fireworks, the appearance was maintained but none of the correct settings appeared in the Photoshop Live Effects dialog. And adjusting the settings had no effect either. That doesn't really fit my idea of a "live" effect. In fact, it seems more like a flattened effect—except that its editibility is maintained if the file is reopened in Photoshop.
Maybe they should call them Photoshop "hibernating" effects. ("They're not dead—they're just asleep!")
Clearly, there's room for improvement here. It begs the question: Why include a slider for something that can neither be created nor adjusted in the application? (Of course, I'd rather they figure out a way to add support for gradients here than just remove the slider.)

  • CS5 - Missing gradient editor in Photoshop Live Effects/Stroke

Try this: select an object, apply a photoshop smart effect > stroke > Fill type: gradient
and let me know if you have any way to edit the gradient there, I can't figure out how to work that.
    Thanks!

I'm trying to apply a gradient stroke without resorting to outlining the path I'm working with... but apart of that, WTF? You guys put in a feature that works only 50% to keep stuff compatible? Really? What kind of product management do you guys have over there? C'mon!
Fireworks is driving me crazy, stuff that is supposed to be 27 pixels looks out of sync, and even snapping to pixel doesn't do the magic most of the time.
not to mention the hilarious decision of somebody to make the autoshape dialog NOT pick up the Uber-common CTRL-A shortcut, so when I'm trying to select all the content in one of the inputs, selects all my artwork instead.
I have more, are you interested?

  • AE will not import live photoshop 3d correctly

Hi, I've spent a lot of time researching forums, watching tutorials trying to solve this problem to know avail.  I have found some threads that have the same problem, but no solutions have worked.  I'm using CS4 in both photoshop and AE.  My problem is that no matter what I do I cannot correctly import photoshop 3d live layers into aftereffects and have them work properly.  Basically once I save or create the 3d file or 3d shape as a psd, when I import it into AE it does not create the comp correctly where it creates the camera, and controler layer (per the tutorials I have watched).  It simply brings in the PS file as a straight 2d.  Here is what I have done and tried.
    1) within photoshop the 3d object all works fine. I've tried numerous models and even used the adobe car model  that was part of the tutorial There seems to be no issues when working inside PS.  I have even created just a simple 3 d shape in PS and tried importing that into AE with the same results. I am saving all of these as .psd files.
    2) When importing I have made sure that the import as live photoshop3d layer box is checked
    3) Within AE after importing, I have opened the comp that was imported to see if the camera layer and controler layer are there...they are not, only the PS layer (2d) is there.
    4) I havewithin aftereffects to edit original on the layer which brought me back into PS, I made a slight color change and saved and when going back into AE it reflected the changes I made correctly. I tried to do this to make sure dynamic link was working correctly.
    5) I tried to manually within AE to convert the layer to a photoshop live 3d layer (since it didnt do it correctly upon initial import) I get an error message that reads....  no photoshop live 3d layer found.
It just seems that upon import, AE is not recognizing that it is a 3d photoshop live layer, thus does not create the necessary things (camera and controller) as needed. Are there any preferences that I may need to enable within AE for this to work.  Truthfully I don't know for sure that it couldnt be a problem with PS, but since everthing 3d seems to work correctly in PS, I believe the problem has to do with AE.
I'm really at a loss at what else to do, everything else in AE works fine.  Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds rather odd, but I remeber there was an issue along those lines that got fixed in the 9.0.2 update. If you haven't already, try to install it. Also check the rendering style of your model in PS. You may have assigned something there that would not produce visible results and thus AE may ignore it. As a last thing, check your OpenGL settings in AE and PS and your graphics driver. Since PS handles this as a hardware accelerated feature, bad graphics configuration might also make it go boom... For more details it would help if you could produce some screenshots of your settings and import attempts....

Edit: Definitely make sure to turn off the sequence option in the AE import dialog! This might, after all, be the problem here...

  • Having problem with images imported from photoshop

I am totally new to Fireworks, I am redoing a site that was done using CS2, that is GoLive, Photoshop and Image Ready. I wanted to begin familiarizing myself with Fireworks by starting with using it to make all the web images for the site (jpgs, pngs, etc). It started well but after a while I started getting strange results from FW when I imported PSD files. The PSD imports fine into FW but when I want to "preview" or do a "2-UP" and see what it looks like as a jpg or png I just get a blank image where the jpg or png is supposed to be. However if I "export" the jpg it does get exported, but I would like to preview it to see what the quality is. This doesn't happen every time but at least 50% of the time in the last 2 days, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind why it works with some images but not others.
Another thing is that if I add a layer effect to the image such as "inner glow" to the PS image, and then flatten the image to make sure it gets exported to FW, it doesn't get exported. It is as if I never added the layer effect in PS.
Any help on these two issues would be greatly appreciated and help me to continue in perservering with FW.
    VL Branko

I don't think I've cracked open Bridge since upgrading to CS5/CS6, and I'm hesitant to start today! I'm therefore kind of assuming that you're starting with PSDs and opening them up in Fireworks. (If you're not doing this, give it a try.)
Regarding the 50% failure of Preview and 2-Up modes, I was thinking that saving the PSDs as native Fireworks PNGs—within Fireworks—might eliminate that problem. It's hard to imagine Fireworks not previewing its own file format, but easier to imagine it failing to properly preview a PSD file. And again, perhaps File > Image Preview might work better for you.
As far as the "inner glow" issue: 1) Be sure to add it into the PSD before importing into Fireworks, and 2) If it doesn't show up, have a look at Filters within the Properties panel for the selected object; you could try selecting Inner Glow within ‘Photoshop Live Effects’ or try out Fireworks' own native Inner Glow filter effect.
Other than for the purpose of familiarizing yourself with Fireworks, you may want to consider why you'd use Fireworks for these graphics, if they were originally created in Photoshop. Small changes in graphic appearance are always possible when moving between applications. For example, Photoshop is color managed whereas Fireworks is not; you therefore might notice a small shift in saturation or tonality between the two applications. Whether this is a concern depends on your final output goals.

  • Adobe Live Effects are not supported 100%. Why?

Using FW CS3 for Web designs.
As most of you know, you can implement some Photoshop Live
Effects inside FW CS3 but not 100%.
    I am curious why?
For example, in FW CS3, when I try to implement "Satin"
effect to a button, my preferences are limited compared to Photosop
version. In Photosop you can select a preset contour and you can
change the blend mode. But in FW you can only change angle,
    distance, color, size and opacitiy.
And same thing goes for other effects. They don't have same
options, and they don't create same effect with PS CS3.
I am asking this because I used strictly FW for my Web
designs, but now I see that I can create much cooler buttons in PS
CS3, which is mainly a photo editor :/
Is there any way to make it 100% PS compatible?
    Thanks.

Based on the timing, I suspect that development of FW CS3 was
    started
before Adobe and Macromedia merge. So the fact that they are
    not 100%
compatible does not look surprizing to me. Probably it will
    change in the
future. Take into account that PS and FW are rather big
    projects, they
cannot be fully re-coded in a minute.

  • Problems importing 3D layers from Photoshop

Hi, I am a public school teacher in Australia and we have a site licence for the Adobe Master Collection CS4 at school. I am having some problems importing 3D layers into After Effects from Photoshop.
Firstly, I have a computer in my office with exactly the same software, installed from the same source as the computers in my class room. They are all running Google SketchUp 8, Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4.
In my office I am able to export a 3D model from SketchUp using the KMZ format and open it using Photoshop. I can then save the file as a PSD file. I can't attach the file here as it is just over 2mb. When I import it into After Effects using the Photoshop Live 3D option I can rotate the model as normal and the elements appear as shown below.
When I try the exact same exercise in my class room (where the computers are all running exactly the same versions of Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4) the model is imported as a 2D image with no ability to rotate or interact with the model. It appears that the camera and controller layers are missing from the timeline as well as the Solids folder from the Project pane as shown below.
I have been trying to figure out the difference for most of the day today and so far I cannot find any reason for this to occur, neither can I find anyone with a similar problem who has solved it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Mr Merrick

PS Live 3D requires hardware acceleration to work properly, that is in terms of OpenGL support being available in Photoshop on the machines in question. If that's not the case, the importer component won't function either as it uses the same routines.

  • Live ps 3d

I'm confused that the window check box "photoshop live 3d" is missing in AE CS6.. then how will we import a 3ds/obj (psd) with its 3d property?

You don't. This functionality has been removed. Whether it will come back in CS7 or in what form nobody can tell at this point.  Buy Element 3D, AtomKraft or any other 3D plug-in, if that is really so important to you.

  • Fireworks CS5 not finding Photoshop plug-ins

I recently installed Alien Skin Eye Candy 6 and Exposure 3 64-bit plug-ins. They are in my Photoshop plugins folder.
When I open the Fireworks preferences and select this as the Photoshop plug-ins folder, the plug-ins are not available in Fireworks. I just get the standard Fireworks list and "Photoshop Live Effects".
I tried trashing the preferences to no avail, and tried on a new user account - and really just can't understand why it is failing entirely to find the 3rd party plugins. Its no big deal - I hardly ever use them... but would still like to have them in the tank should they be needed for any reason.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Cheers,
    Steve Jones
    PS: Running Fireworks CS5 (11.0.0.484) on a MacBook Pro i7 2.66Ghz with 8GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.6.6

Yep, that would do it alright. I thought it was a 64 bit application.
I have contacted Alien Skin to see what the story is with running both 64 bit and 32 bit versions of the plugins on the same machine. I'm assuming that, presuming I can get access to the 32 bit installers, installing them directly into Fireworks own plugins folder will work if the Photoshop Plug-Ins checkbox is unchecked.
I will update this thread when I have a definitive response from Alien Skin.
    Cheers

  • Live effects pattern overlay

I'm trying the PhotoShop LIve Effects in Fireworks CS4, and trying Pattern Overlay. My problem is I only see controls for Opacity and Scale, not to change the pattern. There is only one pattern, which isn't very useful. I tried changing to another pattern in the main Properties but that doesn't change the single pattern in live effects, which looks like big bubbles. Am I missing something here?

Photoshop Live effects are more of a way to maintain existing Photoshop Layer Styles when a PSD file is opened in FW. Yes, they are of limited use, but they are functional. For example, the Stroke Live Effect is a feature that is not available in Fireworks. Very handy if you want to add a stroke around a bitmap image.

  • Is there a way to make the Inner Shadow to only render over the fill, and not stroke of a rectangle?

To be precise, I want to recreate this button in Fireworks (original here):
I created a rectangle with the stroke set to the dark orange color, and the fill to the light yellow color. Then I wanted to add a white inner shadow with 50% opacity to make the effect that's visible in the inner top, left, and right edges. However the shadow is also affecting the stroke. Is there a way to make it only affect the fill?
    Thanks.

Actually, you can control the stacking order of filter effects. So you could apply the Inner Shadow effect to the object without the stroke, and then add the Stroke via the Photoshop Live Effects (at the bottom of the Filters menu).
Both this and the Gradient Fill options would allow you to save the appearance as a Style, where it could then be applied to other buttons or objects.

  • How do I Streamcast what's happening on my screen?

I found LiveStream tonite, and an artist was drawing in Photoshop LIVE and boadcasting the art session to the world!  I was immed. HOOKED.  I want to do the same thing while drawing in real time in Flash.
The artist suggested I use Flash ME, so I D/L'd it, and got it up and running.  I even got my webcam to show a live pic of me in the input and output windows.  Now i'm stuck.
I created a Livestream channet where i want the Screencst to play.. but what's my next step within Flash ME?  Where do i tell it to point the stream?  My channel URL is : http://www.livestream.com/lippy
    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Check out my drawing style at:
    www.lippy.com
    Thanks!

There are 2 things which you need to specify in order to publish the content:
    1. FMS Url
    2. Stream Name
The format of FMS Url is 'rtmp://server_name/application_name and stream name can be any string like 'myStream'.

  • Missing tools Adobe Muse

if they created a new web program, taking away support adobe firework, there are tools that are necessary for the web:
Create a rectangular slice based on a selected object
Add Filters button in the Properties panel.
    Photoshop Live Effects
Tools and properties panel used in adobe fireworks

    williatb,
I believe the bar menu widget was taken out around 2.0. The bar menu was really just a horizontal widget with styling, though (gradient fills, stroke, etc). So you can achieve the same effect by styling a horizontal menu.
