Photoshop manual?

Does Photoshop CS5 have a PDF manual available for download from Adobe? I've searched all over Solutions, Learning, and Help on their website but fail to see one listed.

Of course it would be up there!
Thanks. I just didn’t notice it there. I tend to keep the PDF manuals in a folder so they’re centrally located when I need to learn or research something.
Thanks again!

  • Photoshop Manual Video Reference

Why do most of the videos in the PsCC manual links link to the actual video ? I click on the link in the manual, a page loads, but not the video that the link is referencing too.

    Thank you for that info.
Unlike Trevor, my experience with AdobeTV has been very good lately - However, and with that said, it could well depend on the exact AdobeTV, to which one is referring. Most of mine have been regarding Premiere Pro, or Premiere Elements, so maybe different servers, or different server nodes?
I wish that I could be of more help.
    Good luck,

  • Photoshop will not open/create new files, cannot resize images etc

    Hi to all.
So I'll start with the basics; I am using Photoshop 7 (And yes, I am using it for a specific reason, I'm not interested in migrating to this new $1000 Creative Cloud rubbish), us Australians are getting ripped a new one and I'm happy with the $50 I paid for my copy years ago. (Please do not tell me the answer to my problems is to simply upgrade and go bankrupt. Again, I've been using 7 for a very long time without issue).
I've been using 7 for almost a decade without issue. I stick with it because so far, it's done everything I need, has been reliable up to this point, and my plugins do not work properly with newer versions. I'm also running an older-spec system (Windows XP, 3gb ram etc) as I do a lot of work with older game engines, Source Engine etc.
The issue I'm having doesn't appear to be Photoshop-7 specific however, there are many threads on this that have gone unanswered, and happen in CS3 etc and modern copies as well. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail. Basically, I cannot open files reliably with it.
If I right click any image file in explorer and click "open with -> Photoshop", photoshop will launch, however it does not open the file. I double checked to ensure the file was not just opening offscreen, however it is definitely not opening at all (as the "close" option does not become available).
If I launch photoshop manually, and click file -> open -> It will open that file, HOWEVER it will not open any more files after that.
It also is very very fickle with simple commands, such as if I hit CTRL + T to go into transform mode and then try to rescale an image, I have to click and drag the corners at least 5-6 times before it will recognize that I am doing so, and it will also ignore the resize that I perform and snap back to normal. Sometimes I have to click things more than once to get them to register. This is not occurring with any other piece of software etc, so I've ruled out that it's an issue with my mouse.
This has only been happening a day, and I cannot think of any particular system changes likely to result in this (ie no abnormal plugins installed recently, no major hardware or software changes). Unless my keyboard has a stuck key or something strange, I'm absolutely at a loss
Is there anyone who can help me, or has heard of this issue?

    I am an idiot.
I guess the scratch disk was full or something else. A simple reboot appears to have solved the problem. (I often have my system running for up to 48-64 hours at a time without reboots) as my workdays are around 36 hours at a time, so it could just be a memory constraint from XP.
Hopefully this solves the issue for anyone else who encounters it. Reboot your pc once in a while, give it a clean slate of memory to work with.

  • How do I set up photoshop to work with a touch screen?

    Hi,
I just bought a 15.6" Asus Q500A touchscreen laptop with Windows 8. I downloaded photoshop and the 'touch app plug-ins' through the Adobe Application Manager for creative cloud. When I open a file in PS and select the brush(or any other) tool if I use the touch screen to drag it accross the canvas nothing happens. It still works with my mouse though.
How can I get this to work properly?

That does not surprise me. As I wrote Photoshop does not support Touch. It has supports for graphic tablets pens with wintab device drivers. It has support for mice and keyboards. No where do I see touch support documented in Photoshop manual. Here is a link to Photoshop manual search it for touch, http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/photoshop_reference.pdf  The closest thing  I found to touch support is the following:
    ========================================================================================== =======
    Use the Rotate View tool
You use the Rotate View tool to rotate the canvas non-destructively; it does not transform the image. Rotating the canvas can be useful for any
number of reasons, including facilitating easier painting or drawing. (OpenGL is required.)
You can also use rotate gestures on MacBook computers with multi-touch trackpads.
    1. In the toolbox, select the Rotate View tool . (If the tool isn’t visible, hold down the Hand tool.)
    2. Do any of the following:
Drag in the image. A compass will indicate north in the image, regardless of the current canvas angle.
In the options bar, enter degrees in the Rotation Angle field. Click or drag the circular Set Angle of Rotation control.
    3. To restore the canvas to the original angle, click Reset View.
For a video on the Rotate View tool and other workspace tips, see www.adobe.com/go/lrvid4001_ps. (Discussion of the Rotate View tool begins at the 5:10 mark.)
    Disable trackpad gestures (Mac OS)
If you have a MacBook computer with a multi-touch trackpad, you can use the trackpad to flick, rotate, or zoom images. This functionality can
greatly increase your efficiency, but you can disable it if inadvertent changes occur.
    1. Choose Photoshop > Preferences > Interface (Mac OS).
    2. In the General section, deselect Enable Gestures
    ========================================================================================== ===========
My Wacom Intuos 5 Touch device driver has some touch support for some Photoshop features.  I do not try to finger paint I use the Wacom pen for that.  I also do not get the strange finger paint in Photoshop when I use my finger to move the mouse cursor with the Wacom Intuos 5 touch support. Starting outside an image window or inside one,
However if I add two finger support add tap to click I can finger paint and also use other tools.  However I'm not into finger paint so I do not configure Touch support that way for Photoshop.

  • Image Capture won't scan to Photoshop

I just downloaded Lion (10.7.2) and everything works fine, except ...
When scanning through Image Capture, it won't open the scanned images in Photoshop (CS4) when set to do so. It will open in any other program I try (Preview, Illustrator, etc ...) but not Photoshop.
When I scan an image with PS set as the "scan to" app, Photoshop will open, but it doesn't open the image.  Instead, Image Capture opens a "scan results" dialog box with the name of the image and a magnifying glass icon that shows me that the image has been saved in my "pictures" folder.  I'm clearly choosing the PS app, and not the PS folder in Image Capture, but for some reason it doesn't know what to do with the image when it gets there. Again, the PS app OPENS, but the image doesn't. It just dumps it in the "pictures" folder.
By all accounts, Photoshop seems to be working properly. I can click on a scanned image and open it with Photoshop manually. Scanned images just won't open in PS automatically through Image Capture like they used to before I upgraded to Lion.
I tried rebooting and repairing permissions just for the heck of it, but those did nothing.  Image Capture has no problem recognizing my scanner (Brother MFC 6490CW) and I made sure to download the latest driver for it.
I'm really at a loss as to why this is occuring.  If anyone has a theory, I'd love to hear it.  Scanning stuff into Photoshop is my job basically, so this is driving me crazy.

I can duplicate that behaviour, best file it as a Bug with Apple if you have a Developer ID ?
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
I will file it also and see what response I get.
BR filed: I note that in testing this if I set the Import To selector to Preview, Mail and iPhoto it behaves as expected so it's possible this is an Adobe issue not an Apple one. Might be worth looking in their support forums to see if anyone elase has this and has found a work-around.

  • Problems with the graphic card and adobe photoshop cs5

    hello,
i installed adobe photoshop cs5 for my sisters computer:
    specifications:
    Prozessor: AMD Phenom™ II X6 1090T Six-Core Prozessor(3,2GHz, 9MB Cache)
Festplatte: 2x 1 TB SATA II
    Arbeitsspeicher: 8 GB DDR3
    Grafikkarten: VGA PCI-Express ATI Radeon™ HD5870 1GB GDDR5 (2x DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort) x 2 (2 von der sorte)
    Sound: 7.1 support
    Netzwerk: Gbit LAN
    Software: Windows® 7 Home Premium,
    Schnittstellen/Anschlüsse: Gehäuse-Front: Mic., Audio, 2xUSB 2.0, Front MCR, 1x Firewire, 1x eSATA Gehäuse-Rückseite: 8x USB 2.0, 2x USB3.0, 2x
    Firewire, 2x eSATA, 2x DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x Gbit LAN, 2x SPDIF, 6x Audio
    Besonderheiten: 80 Watt Netzteil
as you can see, absolute new hardware...
now photoshop tells her that her graphic card wouldnt fit the requirements, and allways switches to "software-sides" rendering.
this can't be true, this mashine is running hardchore grafic apps, and has the newest ATI Raedon Gra-Card (2 of them) which even now has a native support for open GL.
the computer has all latest drivers (no newer versions available)
    so what to do?
i can't even tell photoshop manually in the settings to enable open GL...
i defenitally reached the end of my knowledge here.. i tried everything, also changing (as suggested by photoshop) the open GL settings of the graphic card card. no changes ...
    need help with this one..
thank you already for your time and hopefully help

  • Photoshop Cs5.1 / Scratch file problem

Hello guys and gals of the adobe forum,
I recently downloaded the trial version of adobe master cs5.5 collection. All applications are working fine without a problem. Except Photoshop... Both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version !
When i start both of them, i have something that tells me  " Photoshop couldn't find the scratch file. Couldn't create or locate it "
Being upset with the matter, i searched on the internet in order to solve it. Some people out there seems to have the same problem  as me !
The answer that was gave to them was the following : Press CTRL + ALT + SHIFT when photoshop boots so you can reset the settings. I did that, but the error still comes up when i press "ok" after deleting the settings
Another suggestion was to press only CTRL + ALT, which would bring up a window to change the scratch file while photoshop was loading (actually, it's quite handy) But the problem is that... Well... Once i changed the scratch fille to another hard drive, photoshop DO starts, but once i quite photoshop, it gives me an error saying "couldn't find the preferences file. Couldn't save or locate the preference file. Your setting won't be saved"... Which lead to well, a photoshop that starts with the same previous error, until i change again the scratch file of photoshop manually when it loads... Which is annoying...
Lemme explain the problem : My system is a new laptop ; the XPS 17 l702x of dell. I added a SSD as the boot device. Being expensive, i only bought a 40GB to boot windows and install a couple of applications, so that only something like 5 GB would be remained at the end of the process. The other drive is a normal drive of 500 GB.
After reading a couple of articles on the internet, i coudl find out that it is because photoshop is trying to set the scratch file on the C drive, but obviously, since my configuration doesn't allow this, he keeps putting me this error. In overall, this is understandable.
The part that left me curious is why can't he saves the preferences files once he quits ? I specificaly told him to save scratch files on the D drive, which he does when he start (with the ctrl + alt + shift method) , but when it quits, it cannot save that information on a 10 kb file, and in same time,  to not put the scratch file on the C drive... Weird since i have 5 GB of free space on it !
This is where i am a nd this is where i'd like you guys to help me, if you can. Any bit of information will be highly appreciated ! I hope somebody answer as this will probably lead me to buy it or not. ( i will obviously not buy the master collection if it doesn't work on my computer ! )
Thanks for any help in advance !

If preferences don't get saved, it's usually a rather mundane permissions problem, so look into that. Alternatively move your user profiles to the platter drive by defining the system variable/ registry key/ group policies accordingly. This may, however require to reinstall some programs due to the changed path...

  • "Edit menu in Photoshop" opens up QuickTime picture viewer

As the subject line suggests, when I right-click a menu and select "Edit menu in Photoshop" from the pulldown, it opens up QuickTime picture viewer. Somehow, Encore or this function in Encore has gotten reassociated with QuickTime. Any idea how to get it going to Photoshop again instead? Or, any idea of a work-around to open up the menu in Photoshop manually? (Where can I access the menu psd files?)

You need to associate psd files with Photoshop.
Go to a psd file and right click on it and open with..
Set it to Always open with this program.

  • Problems downloading my subscription to Photoshop

    Hi
    villesteban96
I'm having the same exact problem as you.  I've spent 4 hours already trying to remove every scrap of the previous version.   I removed all references to it in the registry and deleted all the folders and files on my C drive, but I still keep getting that message.  I've tried the Download Assistant and I've tried installing Photoshop manually, and I still keep  getting the same error message.  I also have the yearly subscription but I had to restore my hard drive because of a virus.  I was able to reinstall everything else except for Photoshop because of this install error.
Can anyone help us with this problem?!?!   PLEASE?

Branched this out from the previous discussion.  As the previous discussion was regarding the Adobe Download Assistant.  You mentioned that you are subscribed to Photoshop.  If this is the case then you would want to go to https://creative.adobe.com/ and follow the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4396277#4396277?tstart=0 to download and install Photoshop.
Did you try this method already and faced difficulties thus tried to download the trial of Photoshop?  If so what specific error messages did you receive?  Also which version of Windows are you using?

  • RE:  PHOTOSHOP CC - MENU ITEM EXPLANATIONS

    1)  Where can I find a very basic, very in depth discussion of of all menu items?   There are so many that do not seem to be covered in any of the tutorials - such as "Image" > "Mode" > "8, 16, 32 Bit/Channel".   That's just an example.  Even Fundamental Tutorials do not cover.  Even the Photoshop "manual" I downloaded do not cover.
    2)  In trying to find and view tutorials, one illustrates how to move the entire opening screen around to avoid opening in the Bridge CC (and to keep them side by side if desired), through . .  the menu item "Window" > "Application Frame".  I don't have an Application Frame.
    3)  I was under the impression that if I subscribed to Creative Cloud that I would automatically have everything and it would be automatically downloaded with all of the appropriate updates.  Now I find there's so much I do not have - but worse - no way to know what I am missing.  Could anyone explain this.  I want to spend my valuable time doing my art work, not trying to learn how/when/what/why/IF Creative Cloud downloads, mess-ups, screw-ups, etc.
    Thanks for any help.

I had at first, decided to ignore the implications of some of your responses. However, after much consideration and reading some other comments and blogs (and even a comment in a popular book) about Adobe customer service, I've decided to respond.  I think your response was condescending and somewhat rude. I do NOT expect anyone to explain the entire Photoshop CC program to me. If you could just look at my opening question - "Where can I find a very basic, very in depth discussion of of all menu items?", I'm asking where I might go to find an explanation of menu items.  You go on to tell me that a lot of what I was asking was not even specific to Photoshop, although every single thing I refered to…..File;  Scripts; Image;  Mode;  Window; Timeline; 8bit/16bit/32bit;  Application Frame…. IS within Photoshop.
Then, to suggest that I “type a handful of phrases into a web search” to do my own research - when its Photoshop’s own menu I’m trying to research….. and when I’m only asking to be directed to find what I need, is insulting.  I do not think it is appropriate customer service.
At the same time, I recognize that I was the first to be rude in calling out Creative Cloud’s mess-ups and screw-ups, etc.  I must apologize for that because it was not you who participated in or had anything to do with failing in information about the missing Bridge “Output” module.  Nevertheless I did start out asking the right question - where to go to find what I wanted - because I too do not believe a forum is the correct place for in depth basic information about a program.  I believe is a strong failure on the part of Adobe is discarding a very useful in depth, item by item, manual.

  • Importing Photoshop Files

I'm attemting to import photoshop files into a Motion project as I have done in the past. But now, for some reason, when I do so now, instead of my image I get a graphic imported that is all white and has the text "This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image" in about six different languages. I've tried flattening the image first, but that doesn't seem to help.
I would appreciate any help with this if anyone else has been able to overcome it. I'm running Motion 2.0.1 on a G5 with 2GB RAM.
    Thanks.
    PowerMac G5

    josh,
did you ever find a solution to this issue of yours? i just encountered it and it's caused by a preference setting in photoshop meant to maximize file compatibility. i opened the same layered .psd in after effects with no issue which wasn't surprising. searched here and saw your post. then, which i should have done immediately, i searched the photoshop manual and found the solution. search is always my friend.
    from the photoshop manual:
--To maximize compatibility with previous versions of Photoshop and with other applications (Photoshop):
    Do one of the following:
In Windows, choose Edit > Preferences > File Handling.
In Mac OS, choose Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling.
Choose Always from the Maximize PSD File Compatibility menu. This saves a composite (flattened) image along with the layers of your document.

  • Removed background in photoshop - but how to remove white box in illy?

    Hi guys,
I have successfully removed the background on an image in PS. Saved it as a GIF..
Then placed it in illustrator. However there is white space behind the image, the image has a white transparent box behind it....
The image can be placed ontop of another layer fine in illy. But.....is it possible to save just the image without any white space behind it?
    Thanks...

You need to first convert your background layer into a "normal" layer. select the motive in Photoshop (there are several tutorials for this, it largely depends on the subject which tool you use). Then you create a mask (or just delete the pixels). Make sure there is no background layer. Then save as PSD
The Photoshop manual should help on everything that is not clear.
