Photoshop menu issue

I've created an animated GIF and on attempting to 'save for web' check out my pop up menu...  see image below!
Same thing happens when I goto the Filter Gallery.  If I click on a window/program outside of Photoshop the text appears - see second image!
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Cheers,
D

  • Photoshop menu changes when video is applied.

    This is encore CS6
I have been trying to figure this out for a while and can't seem to. I have a photoshop menu consisting of a white background with text and a couple images. I created a video to apply to the menu.
On its own, the menu is fine, but when I link it to the video, the menu gets thin black bars on the edges and the video seems to show through a sliver at the bottom. This totally boggles me because I noticed the video peaking through behind the menu, so I cropped the video in PP, re-exported it and it re-appears in Encore as no-cropped and showing thru at the bottom again. Anyways, the main issue probably has something to do with the Photoshop menu not being as big as the video file in dimension or having a different pixel aspect ratio. Though I played around with the PARs in Photoshop to no avail.
    I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Stan,
That information may very well help me. I don't believe I ever used a layer other than the one called "background". But thats good to know.
I created a solution to the black edges and sliver of video at the bottom. I created a menu from within Encore (the "Rose Menu HD" menu), clicked on the "edit menu in photoshop" and simply modified that rose menu in photoshop to look like it needed to (like my other menus). This way I was gauranteed that the basics of the menu would be right when it came to size and par.
The jittering issue is still there. But I did narrow it down to being a problem with the video background. I know this because I created two of the same menus on a test DVD, one with a video background (which ended up jittering) and one without a video background. The one without a video did not jitter at all.
    Thanks.
    Neil,
what do I do after saving a TIFF image from the video?
Open Photoshop & from the "File/New" dialogue create a DVD menu (there is a section for this called - from memory - "film & TV" although this may vary depending on version) in the style you want (NTSC Widescreen - not Square Pixel version) and this gets you a base with guides.
NOw get the paint bucket out & make the background black.
Open your TIFF file, and drag the image from the "layers" tab into the DVD menu template.
If it is too large, move it until you can see a corner & poress CTRL/T and turn the imported still into a smart object.
Hold down the SHIFT key & drag the top left corner down to the bottom right, and when you run out of space stop dragging & slide the image back up to the top left again.
Repeat until it fits onto your background & then select the usual pointer tool & select "apply transformation".
That is now your background sorted.
When you say "jitter", I suspect you mean flicker, as Jitter is caused by bad clocking & is a very different thing.
Check field orders - are you using HD to DVD? If so be very careful with field order issues. If the video is Progressive you should be okay but if it is compressed MPEG-2 Transport Streams or similar it will almost certainly be Upper Field First whereas the transcode for DVD will probably be Lower Field First.

  • CS5 Bridge Tools\Photoshop Menu Options aren't working ...

The CS5 Bridge Tools\Photoshop Menu Options that contain the Image Processing / Photomerge / HDR Pro features that open images from Bridge into Photoshop isn't working ... has this happened to anyone else?  Have you any ideas how to fix this?
I've cleared cache, windows temp files, and moved the majority of my files to my NAS drive, so the laptop (Window 8 64-bit) is fine ... or so it seems!

Did you have to uninstall everything and reinstall 2014? CC 2014 was installed automatically. My program files show Ps CC and Ps CC 2014. The automatic installation of 2014 is what caused the problem.

Ok, look at your files in Photoshop. What is the profile assigned to them? You can find this out by going to the Status bar at the bottom, clicking on the right-pointing triangle and choosing document Profile from the list.
Then in Windows, go to your Control Panel > Color Management and add sRGB (if it isn't there) and select it as your default profile.
    I hope that will work.

  • Bridge/Photoshop Colour Issues

    Bridge/ Photoshop Colour Issues:
It appears that there are a few pictures that are noticeably dull, when I load them in Bridge and Photoshop.   Those same pictures are very vibrant when I look at them directly from the SD card or load them into Picassa.  I tried editing the picture, saving it in Photoshop, then opening it up in Picassa and it has the same dullness.  Since having this issue, I have updated the drivers on my Quadro graphics card, but I think it may be something to do with the way that I set up Adobe Bridge, because this is the first time I have imported a large batch of photos from Bridge.  However, I pretty much left everything as the standard settings in Bridge.  Any suggestions?
FYI - I just started using the Adobe Master Collection, with Win 7 Pro 64 and Huey Pro embedded on my laptop. My colour settings are Huey Pro on my laptop, SRGB in Photoshop and General Purpose for Bridge (I haven’t had this issue before and Huey Pro has been my colour settings on my laptop since I got Adobe).

However, when I switch the Colour Settings>Working Spaces>RGB to "Monitor RGB - Huey Pro" the problem is fixed.
That turns off color management in Photoshop, so yes, that would match other applications that aren't color managed at all. You're not fixing the problem, you're just hiding the symptom.
If you're certain the Photoshop version is wrong, that means your monitor profile is corrupt. A corrupt monitor profile only affects color managed software like Photoshop. Other applications don't use the monitor profile and never touch it.
If it's merely the fact that Photoshop is different, that's normal and all as it should be. With a valid monitor profile Photoshop is right and the others wrong.

  • 10.7.4 huge photoshop performance issues

I've had variants of three different versions of Photoshop installed - CS4, 5 and now 6. I'm not 100% sure when the issue
started occurring, but I've done a lot of experimentation to analyze it.
    The components involved are
    1.Photoshop
    2.Wacom Intuos 3
    3.Lion 10.7.4
Whenever I'm digital painting, which I'm doing professionally, all the time, the colour picking mechanism is not only slow, but doesn't work about 2/3 of the
time. The next stroke made *after* the colour picking never works either. I do this about ONCE EVERY TWO SECONDS. So it's like being punched
in the face all day long while you're trying to get some work done.
Most likely, support staff will attempt to get rid of me saying 'ask wacom' or 'ask adobe.' BUT, here's the process I've gone through.
1.Tried all three variants of photoshop. They all have issues.
2.Switched to a different Wacom tablet (identical model), switched three different wacom pens, all identical models. Note that I also
tested all of these on a Windows machine with the same Photoshop issue, and they all work. And I also tested them all, and photoshop,
on my old intel powerbook running the same version of Photoshop, and it's fine. That Mac is running Leopard.
3.I erased my HD, reinstalled Lion (10.7.4 obviously) and installed Photoshop and the Wacom drivers on top of it again. Just one version,
nothing else to mess with it. Aaaaand, exactly the same issue.
This has made my Mac unusable and frankly, is having a massive financial impact on me . If anyone can think of anything I've left out, please
give it a shot. My instinct is that this has narrowed it down to the operating system, and that it's most likely something to do with the GPU. Or the USB bus. Or the application support libraries - but specific to this hardware as, like i say, I've tried another mac with leopard and all is fine.
    HEEEEELP!

I am having serious Photoshop performance issues as well.
My Photoshop CS5 was running well until I upgraded to Mac OS 10.7.4. My observations are highly un-scientific, but I am noticing the worst performance in Photoshop when I have my Firefox browser open. It's like the 2 programs are fighting with each other. I am also noticing Flash crash reports on Firefox when Photoshop is open.
Even with Firefox closed, however, Photoshop CS5 is sluggish and slow with 10.7.4. Even the dreaded beachball coming back into my life.
I have even erased my hardrive and reinstalled the OS and that did not help.
Other programs are running fine. Even Firefox runs well when photoshop is not running.

    Hello Dear.
This is my first post on this communities. if there have any wrong, please pardon me for that.

    Driver Version: 8.710.0.0
The most important thing I see is that your video card does not have the required minimum VRAM of 512 MB to run 3D features.  There's no software workaround for this - you need to consider getting a better replacement video card in order to use the 3D features.
    Note the system requirements here:
    Photoshop CC system requirements
Note also that the Radeon HD 4000 series is not included in the list of tested video cards here:
Photoshop CC and CC 2014 GPU FAQ
If you buy a new video card you will likely get a fairly current video driver with it.  Even so, you should take the opportunity after the new hardware is installed to check the web site of the maker of the card for their latest driver.
    Beyond the above.
You have not updated your Photoshop to the latest version (which would be 14.2.1 for Photoshop CC, or 2014.0 for Photoshop CC 2014).  Once you get a new video card you should consider updating Photoshop CC to the latest version.
    Good luck.

  • Photoshop CS6 Save As Menu Issue

I am using Photoshop on an iMac running OS 10.9.4.
When I go to save an image using Save As I have to select the format below the one I want to use.  For example, in order to save an image as a JPEG I have to select JPEG 2000.  This is true for all the formats except .psd, .psb, and .tif.  I cannot save an image as a TIFF file because there is no selectable format below TIFF.
How do I get the Save As menu back to where I can click on the format I want to use instead of the one below it?
    Thanks.

Is there any chance you copied plug-ins from an earlier version of Photoshop?  That can screw up the list of formats.
If so, you need to remove the copied plug-ins that were supplied by Adobe (i.e., you should have selectively copied only your third party plug-ins, or better yet installed them afresh).

  • Photoshop CS6 issue with shortcuts and my keyboard after upgrade from CS5

I recently upgraded from CS5 Extended to CS6 Extended on my Mac (Mavericks), but installed it in English instead of German this time. I transferred most of my presets just fine, but none of the keyboard shortcuts were working. All I got was an unequal sign for all shortcuts and even manually changing them didn't get them to work. I found a few discussions about this issue and ended up adding a German keyboard, as I am always on the Romaji setting of my Kotoeri (Japanese) keyboard. That seemed to solve the issue, but only if I change to the German keyboard before opening Photoshop. Shortcuts don't work in CS5 anymore either unless I do. Sometimes the shortcuts also stop working a while after I change back to the Kotoeri keyboard.
Now I would like to know if there is any way to get around this issue. Isn't there a way to get my shortcuts working again without constantly having to change keyboards? I much prefer the Kotoeri one since the icon for the German keyboard in my menu bar looks extremely obnoxious, in my opinion. It's mostly a cosmetic thing to me, but I would love to get everything back to the way it was before.
I'd much appreciate any advice or help.

I am having a similar problem. Just upgraded to Apple Yosemite and all none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in a clean install of Photoshop CS6. Every menu item has some form of the ≠ sign. I've trashed the .plist file, rebuilt permissions, etc. Even basic keyboard commands, like Command-N for NEW or Command-Q for QUIT do not work. In fact, many don't show up in the menu at all. I don't have this issue in InDesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6. Every once in awhile, maybe 1 time out of 20, menus and keyboard shortcuts work properly, but I can't find any pattern.

  • Photoshop CS5 Issues & Mini Bridge Not Working In CS5

    I have Photoshop Issues:
Mainly with copy & paste tools after a short period of time, tools start to function incorrectly for example.. Copy & Paste when working with identical images & wishing to select a part of the image to paste directly on top off the identical image they do not align up pixel by pixel I zoom a 100% in to see and ifs off shifted by 1 pixel out If I move it into place it jumps 2 pixels to the left and if I move to the right again 2pixels. I can't get it in the precise place
it normaly happens after Ive made a couple of pastes.. till I end up having to close & restart photoshop to get it functioning correctly. Is this a bug or am I using it indifferent.
Also the Clone stamp tool stops functioning after using the copy and paste tool after short periods. Example I copy then paste a selected part of the image back into the image then wish to the clone stamp tool to get the correct texture right.
And last issue is.. Mini bridge does not load I click browse images & it states "Waiting for bridge CS5.." ? Nothing happens

It's worth checking to see if the "jumping" problem you have is because Snap is enabled.  Snap causes Photoshop to try to auto-align things for you, and can look much as you've described.  Check the View menu to see if Snap is checked.  If so, either uncheck it, or hold the Control key down when you are moving things that you wish to align without snap.
Also, keep in mind that with the Move tool selected, you can "Nudge" a layer by one pixel at the current zoom level by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Can you list specific steps to reproduce the Clone tool failure?  It might also be helpful for you to capture your screen showing the current state of the image, layers, and settings at the time you're seeing the Clone tool fail to work as you expect.  You may have a setting wrong that someone will be able to see.

  • Photoshop CS5 issue with Mac OSX 10.9.4

    I recently bought a 27inch iMac, and booted it up using a time machine back up of my old MacBook Pro (that also ran OSX 10.9.4). Once things were running on my iMac, I tried opening up Photoshop, and this window popped up;
    When I closed Photoshop this window popped up;
I did go through all Photoshop files in my finder (both in the App folder and the Library preferences), and changed the permissions, but the issue is still happening, plus other random ones. For example, I can't open a psd file right away. The first window will pop up when Photoshop is booting up, and then nothing happens. I then have to open the psd file again for it to come up. Another example; changes to my workspace don't stay when I reopen Photoshop. Lastly some of the drop down menus won't work when I click them. I have to click the photoshop icon down on my dock, and then the menu will appear.
All my other Adobe products are working just fine. I would want to reinstall Photoshop, but I don't know how to do that when the iMac doesn't have a disc drive. Also my old MacBook Pro can't connect to the new computer in order to use it's disk drive.
Is there a fix for this issue, or do I need to reinstall Photoshop again? If so, how? Thanks in advance!

As the error says - you need to fix the permissions on your preferences folder, and it sounds like you may be missing part of the Application Support folders or have a permissions problem there as well.
It sounds like something weird happened to your system that messed up permissions -- we see that happen often when people try to use Apple's migrate utilities between systems or disks (it doesn't copy everything, and messes up permissions).  Fixing permissions with Disk Utility can help, but you may need to reinstall Photoshop to replace missing files/folders, and you'll still have to fix the permissions on your preferences folder.

  • DVD Menu Issue

    Ok excellent, and just as a further point, if you have the time;
I am a little confused as to which dimensions I should use when creating a DVD menu in photoshop to use in Encore, to begin with I made one in 1920x1080 as I didn't realise DVDs could not be made in full HD.

Ok, however even if I switch project settings to BluRay, and create a new menu the font is all pixelated when it looks really crisp in Photoshop. What do you think the issue is?
It depends. You might want to post a screenshot. If the font is part of highlights, it is only 2 bit color. Also, if there is a motion background, Encore will render to the default transcode settings (part of the project settings).
Encore limits the viewing size for preview, as it should, so you don't make the window so large it is blowing it up. You are looking at the preview and not the menu monitor window?

  • IPhoto/Photoshop/RAW issues

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can suggest a solution to this.
I've started shooting raw with my Canon 450D. iPhoto seems to be able to import these files without any issues.
I want to be able to edit these files in Photoshop as editing them in iPhoto defeats the purpose of shooting raw.
What I'm doing is control clicking on a raw photo in iPhoto and choosing "edit in external editor". This brings the photo into Photoshop opening the raw editing dialog box. Perfect.
Then the trouble starts - where to from here? If I make adjustments in the Photoshop raw editor and click "done", the image is not updated in iPhoto. If I do a "save as" and try and import a jpeg or tiff or so on into iPhoto, it won't allow this because there is already an image with that filename in there. I can save a jpeg to the desktop and rename the file, import this into iPhoto but then I would have to delete the raw file because I don't want two of the same image in there. I also notice if I save my raw file out from Photoshop as a tiff or psd and put it in iPhoto, iPhoto will change the date and time to a random date and time which is neither the time the photo was shot or the time I saved it out in Photoshop.
Anyway all of these things are incredibly cumbersome, there must be an easier way, right?
    Cheers, Darren

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Terence mentioned Expression Media. I use it as my primary DAM (digital asset application) and iPhoto to create special projects, MMe galleries, books, calendars, etc.
EM is considered one of the top DAM apps. You can learn about it and other applications at The DAM Forum - Index. EM lets you manage your folders as you want, edit and write ITPC metadata to the files, has version control in editing if so desired, both with EM's editing tools or a 3rd party like Photoshop. It will be a supported on Macs.
If you want to the RAW photo in iPhoto it's best to use a 3rd party editor that is designed for raw. The downside to that is you will have to save the edited version outside of the iPhoto library and import as a new, separate file.
For what it's worth here are some tips on using PS with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Howler of a "Gotcha" in Photoshop menu creation

This is more a warning than a bug report - as I am not at all sure it is really a bug.
When designing menus for DVD in Photoshop, it is absolutely imperative to use the correct resolution & image size because of the following issue that just bit me in the rear end last night.
We were sent a set of menus for a DVDA project (for use in Video_TS as well so it does apply) designed at 300DPI 4,000 x 3,000 pixels.
(Yes, we know it's wrong as that is for non-square pixels but I digress......and I did not design it either)
The text in the menu was part of the image so resizing not an issue.
So, following the usual method of adjusting the DPI to 72 first & then the image size, I fgound out that the outer glow effect used on the text was monstrously overblown. Could *not* work out what I had done wrong, so looked very carefully & discovered that when the image was resized to the correct resolution, the outer glow effect on each layer was not resized.
This is the original, as designed....
Notice the outer glow on track 2 & the drop shadow on the main title, and see what happens with the menu resized to DVD resolution below...
Be VERY careful, as it seems effects do not resize at all.
(Ignore the menu distortions too - this is corrected by the designer in the latest version)

    Hey Bill.
Constrain proportions is not an option though - the designer did this in square pixels, so even though it's 4:3, I have to end up in non square pixels for the final menus. So what was given to me cannot be constrained proportionally. Would that it could.
    @Jon.
Rasterizing makes very little difference - this is also something we have tried, again & again, and it just does not help sadly.
At least it is not PAL Widescreen - that is the "worst case scenario" at a PAR of 1.4
Text in DVD is a nightmare....
