Photoshop menu locations for Paint Shop Pro users

I am new to Photoshop after using Paint Shop Pro for many years.  I am having trouble find things in Photoshop that I would have expected to be somewhat basic.
For example; If I wanted to view the palette, in Paint Shop Pro, I would simply click on “View” then “Palette”.  In Photoshop, I cannot seem to find the command or menu that would show this to me.  The help system is equally useless in the it will tell me everything I want to know about the palette, except where it is hidden.
Another example of drawing a circle around an object in a photo.  I can easily draw a filled circle to blot out the image, but just try to draw an empty circle around an item to highlight it. It just does not seem to be possible.
I am looking for some type of basic instructions that I can use to look up where the basic features of Photoshop are, and how to use them.  Does anyone know if such a reference exists?

Hi there
I'm not familiar with Paint Shop Pro - when you say palette, do you mean the Tool Menu? (shown below) You can access the workspace setup by going to the Window menu in Photoshop. Here, you can select which palette menus are visible, or organize your workspace according to what you mainly use Photoshop for. (If you are indeed looking for the Tool Menu, you can hide or show it by going to Window > Tools)
For drawing a circle, use the Elipse Tool (by default, this tool is located under the Rectangle Tool - just click and hold to select the Elipse Tool). With the Elipse Tool selected, you can change the fill color, stroke color/weight, or even change the stroke to a dashed line using the Elipse Tool setting bar, shown below.
Quick tip: hold down Shift when dragging your circle to make a perfect circle. This applies to many shape-based functions of Photoshop including crop and selection tools. You can also use this when scaling objects to keep their original proportions.
There are a lot of great resources for learning Photoshop. Below I've listed several for you to check out. And never underestimate the power of a quick Google search when you're looking for help on a specific tool or menu!

  • Switching from Paint shop Pro to Photoshop

    Hello everybody,
I'm a PC user and i'm switching to Mac i just bought the macbook and i have a problem.
I have a website and i use Paint shop pro and the problem is that for Mac apparently there is only Photoshop does anyone know how i can convert my Paint shoo Pro files into Photoshop ?

    A perfect solution for you:
Photoshop plugin that alows you to open and Save PSP 5-9 format files (including .pspimage, etc.)
    Photoshop CS and lower: http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/files/PSPFormat-1.2b1.sit

  • Paint Shop Pro instead of Photoshop

I am much more comfortable using Paint Shop Pro. Is there a way to get Encore CS3 to open Paint Shop Pro instead of Photoshop to edit menus, etc.?

    Graeme,
Thanks for that info. Not having PSP, I had no experience to share with the OP.
I *guessed* that there might be problems, but really just did not know.
One thing I've been meaning to do is see how close Painter's PSD's come. I've used it for doing work on my backgrounds, but have never tried to do more with it. I just do the work, bring that image into PS and go from there. Matter of fact, I do not know how Painter handles bringing in a PSD with Button Layer Sets. It might muck them all up, though it (now) does a pretty good job with Importing PSDs. Was not always the case back with Painter 3 - 5.
    Appreciated,

  • Color Shift using Paint Shop Pro files in Photoshop

I'm TRYING to move over into Photoshop after a happy ten years with Paint Shop Pro. I was doing fairly well finding equivalent tools and techniques in PS until I hit a brick wall. If I work on a file in PS the colors will shift and no longer blend into an existing PSP design. What's happening here and how do I compensate?

    Hi Linda,
As Chris says, Photoshop is a color managed application. One approach is
to grab on and ride the bear, which means learn about color management.
For example, you can assign your monitor profile to your Photoshop images,
and the colors will match your existing images in PSP and on the web.
Another approach is to turn Photoshop's color management off in Color
Settings (ctrl-shift-K to open the Color Settings dialog, then select
"Color Management Off" in the settings drop down list at the top of the
    dialog.
This will make your colors match those in PSP, after which you can learn
about color management if and when you have the time.

  • Encore Menus editing in Corels Paint Shop Pro X

I do not have Adobe Photoshop, rather for years I have been
    using Corels Paint Shop Pro.
When I right click on the Menu it does bring up Paint Shop Pro with the menu in Paint Shop.
I can make some alterations but not all on Buttons. Has anyone had experience with this?

Does PaintShop Pro fully support the Adobe PS PSD format? If not, there is not much that you can do. If it does, you will have to explore the limitations. I just do not know that program.
First thing that I would do is open one of the Encore Library Menus in PaintShop Pro, and see how it handles that .PSD file. Also, make careful notes of the naming and Layer Set conventions for your Buttons.
Good luck, and please report on how well, or otherwise, that PaintShop Pro works with .PSD's.

  • Aperture vs photo shop vs paint shop pro(

I'm a new Mac user..... on my PC I've used both Photoshop (harder to use) and Paint Shop Pro easier but still a lot of options). I'm not a professional photographer but I take a lot of pictures and enjoy enhancing them.... more then just taking the red eye out or slightly adjusting the colors. So I'm looking for some photo manipulation software that is deeper then just fixing your photos but not quite as complicated as Photo Shop is. Is Aperture the way I want to go?
Does anyone have any suggestions for me or reviews I can read?
    Thanks, Susan

Hi Susan. I'm an experienced Photoshop user, but I'm using Aperture 2.0 for more and more of my post-processing of images that do not require masking. My workflow using Aperture for whole-image adjustments is faster and, with 65,000+ photos, the savings in hard drive space vs Photoshop will be huge.
I'm learning Aperture bass ackwards, in the sense that I've been drawn into its image processing abilities before learning how to use it for managing my collection.
Be aware that Aperture really hammers your hardware, especially the video card. Download the trial version to see if it will work well with your computer system.

  • Paint shop pro (switched from pc)

hi there, i really need to use paint shop pro. i know it isn't available for macs, but because i have an intel dual core macbook is it possible to run windows apps like psp?
    please help.
i am an expert pc user and a novice mac user. fill me in on what i need to know.
    thank you

I would try getting WINE or DarWINE. It works with that emulation layer(well not an emulation layer as much as a Windows API) but it has worked in that. Check out these sites:

Good Luck and YES most windows programs work!

  • Problem with installing Paint shop Pro photo X2 on with Vista

Trying to install Paint shop photo x2 on my note book but at the end of the installation it freezes and there seems to be some problem with "registering"...
Corel (supplier of paint shop) now advised me to change some drivers but the links I received are for XP or lower versions.
Is there anybody who had the same problem and find the solution?
i have tried already several things (like shutting down norton, msconfig changes etc)....
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi
I have noticed that not all programs and applications are compatible and support the Vista OS. Did you check if this program supports Vista?
I think this should be clarified firstly.
I would recommend contacting the Paint shop Pro manufacture for the troubleshooting.
    Good luck

  • Can I add a secondary location for Final Cut Pro Documents?

    Hi Guys,
I'm working on a large project which has taken up most of my 2tb hard drive which I use for my final cut pro documents (capture scratch, render files etc). Is it possible if I plug in another hard drive to use that as a secondary location for final cut pro documents as I have other (smaller) projects which I could be uploading and working on in the mean time? If so, how is this achieved and what are the pros / cons?

Sure -- go to Final Cut Pro menu on your menu bar and select System Settings.
The first tab is SCRATCH DISKS -- that's the term too -- not secondary folder for FCP Documents.
    Change it there.
    Drawbacks...
It has been a while since I've had to deal with this, but FCP used to not remember (feature or bug??) a project's original scratch disk location and if you change it for ONE project it will be changed for ALL future AND past projects... until you change it back.
Now, that in itself isn't a BAD thing. All that that means is that if you continue to capture material into that old project it will now put it over here instead of over there. Also, other things like render files and such which won't really matter much unless they do... and now you've got stuff spread over a coupla drives.
FCP's projects don't care. They've already mapped where they need to go to get the video and render files it needs. Move your Scratch Disk 33 times... won't make a difference to the browser and timeline. -- UNTIL you remove one of the important drives. THEN red lines galore! Un renders, missing files... messy messy messy!
Much better to start and finish a project in scratch disk. Makes for easy cleanup. Kinda like cooking thanksgiving dinner (American??) in 5 houses at once.
    Good luck,

  • Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9/Jasc Animation Studio 3 Issues

I have switched from a PC to a Mac not to long ago and I've been trying to install my Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9/Jasc Animation Studio 3 on my Mac. I have had no success. Does anyone know what I should do (other than get a new software)? Is there a place to get it converted or somewhere where I can at least legally download the Jasc Animation Studio 3?

In addition, IE doesn't handle margin: 0 auto; on divs very well. So you have to also add "text-align: center" on the body element, which will center align all elements for IE, then "text-align: left;" on the #wrapper. (It will left justify all elements within the centered wrapper.)
Here's a very trimmed example. Notice that I also put a border on the "wrap" div, this can be removed.

  • PSE 3.0 vs. Paint Shop Pro 9

Was sag' ich denen denn? KW

Photoshop Elements bietet professionelle Bildbearbeitung vereinfacht an.

I have used Paint Shop Pro on my old PC to 'touch up' backgrounds etc and would like to do this on my mac. At the moment I do the work on the PC then memory stick it but it is time consuming and I am sure there must be similar available I just do not know how or where to find it? Any suggestions?

  • Provide Feedback for the Logic Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for Logic Pro would like to know what you think about the Logic Pro Help documentation (available in the Help menu):
    • How often do you use Logic Pro Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • Do you use the printed manual or the onscreen help more? Which one do you prefer?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Logic Help: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like about the Logic help?
    • What would you like to see us improve? What is missing?
    • What needs more in-depths coverage in the Logic help?
    • In learning Logic, did you use the Logic Getting Started Guide? If so, do you feel the book provided a good introduction to the application? Is there anything you can think of that would make the Getting Started Guide more helpful to you? Did you use the tutorial song that accompanies the Getting Started guide?
    • What are the most important concepts/features a new user has to understand to get started with Logic?
    • By what method do you ususally learn a new application? For example: provided manuals, third-pary tutorials or books, training classes?
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or online help that you consider to be good models for the Logic Pro manual and onscreen help?
    • What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Logic Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Logic Pro documentation?
    • Are there any other methods of delivery or media you think we should explore?
    • What size of computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 12, 15, 17, 20, 23, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when viewing Onscreen Help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use Logic Pro Help? Under what
circumstances do you use it most?
I use it often. not everyday, but there is always some little command or procedure that you can't remember
    • Do you use the printed manual or the onscreen help
more? Which one do you prefer?
I use them both, but the onscreen help a little more often. Some times I like to walk away from the computer and sit on the couch and read the manual, just to have a change of scenery
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Logic
Help: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links,
    PDF search?
    Table of contents and search
    • What do you like about the Logic help?
It's right there on the computer, and being able to search by key words
    • What would you like to see us improve? What is
    missing?
I think real time animation would be real cool but I doubt that is practical
    • What needs more in-depths coverage in the Logic
    help?
Things that Logic has and you won't find in other programs, like explaining the environment in more detail. how to make better use of transformers. The Transform window could be explained more clearly.
    • In learning Logic, did you use the Logic Getting
Started Guide? If so, do you feel the book provided a
good introduction to the application? Is there
anything you can think of that would make the Getting
Started Guide more helpful to you? Did you use the
tutorial song that accompanies the Getting Started
    guide?
I didn't use it, although it looks great, I went right into the reference manual. I did look at the tutorial song, which was nice cause it gave me some hands on experience with moving things around
    • What are the most important concepts/features a new
user has to understand to get started with Logic?
Logic is different that other DAW's. Logic's way of doing things may seem real strange to someone who came from using another program. as I said before, spend more time on things that are only found in Logic, like the environment. It really frightens some people.
Many of the questions here in this forum are midi related. people seem to be having a real hard time making midi work in Logic. The manual could be more detailed in explaining midi communication and how the environment is the heart of all of this
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
    application? For example: provided manuals,
third-pary tutorials or books, training classes?
Provided manuals and a lot of trial and error. Also forums such as this are a great asset
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or
online help that you consider to be good models for
the Logic Pro manual and onscreen help?
No, logic's manual is as good as most others.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in Logic Pro?
For me it was the transform window, it took me a while to get the hang of it. none of the other programs I worked in had anything quite like it.
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
    with the Logic Pro documentation?
there are a few errors, so it is frustrating when you are following the manual but not achieving your goal. For example, page 112 says:
There are two possible locations for user icons:
The ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Logic Resources/Icons folder can contain icons which are only valid for the particular user (~ is the user name). If you save your icons in the root directory—/Library/Application Support/Logic/Logic Resources/Icons—the icons are valid for all users. If icons with identical numbers exist in both folders, the icons found in the user folder have priority.
But this is not the case, they actually go in /Library/Application Support/Logic/images/Icons
there was a couple other mistakes like this too, but i can't remember right now
    • Are there any other methods of delivery or media
    you think we should explore?
If you wanted to get into doing video tutorial, that would be cool. there is a web site called atomic learning http://www.atomiclearning.com/ they have quicktime video tutorials for a ton of different software applications, some apple, and for a flat fee of 79.99 for a year you can spend as much time as you like learning all of the software applications. I may sign up to learn Web design, and maybe final cut pro. Apple could do something like that for all of the apple software and do it much better I would think, and you guys would make a fortune. well I guess not compared to the fortune you are already making
    • What size of computer display do you typically use
to view the onscreen help? For example: 12, 15, 17,
    20, 23, or 30-inch?
    20 in cinema display
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
    viewing Onscreen Help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    1344 X 840
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    no, just the one
