Photoshop multiple layers

CS4, how to copy photoshop multiple layers together from one file to other photoshop file?

One way is to select the layers, then choose duplicate layers and
choose the other document under Destination.

  • Photoshop CC 14.1 editing paths on multiple layers disabled?

    Has editing paths on multiple layers with the direct selection tool been disabled in Photoshop CC 14.1? I can't seem to figure out how to do it now, shift- or command-clicking doesn't do anything. In fact, I can't even click to select individual paths on different layers, something that Photoshop has had forever.
    While it was at times problematic the way it was in 14.0 (always selecting multiple layers and having to go into isolation mode to edit just one), there were times when it was useful to edit multiple layers, or even just click between layers with the direct selection tool.
    I've seen this documentation on the site, but I'm not sure it's very helpful. Can someone give me some assistance?
    Also, what is the custom keyboard shortcut for entering/exiting isolation mode? It is mentioned in the above image, but what actually is it?

    You can still work with paths the way you could in 14.0 -- just choose the All Layers mode in the Path Selection tool or Direct Selection tool options bar. We added the Active Layers mode for users who prefer to isolate which paths can be selected based on which layers they have already selected in the Layers panel.
    To clarify:
    -Active Layers mode: Clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools will not affect which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is disabled.
    -All Layers mode: Works just like in 14.0 -- clicking or dragging on the canvas with the vector selection tools can change which layers are selected in the Layers panel. Double-click to enter isolation mode is enabled.
    If you find yourself switching between these two modes a lot, you can add a custom keyboard shortcut that will toggle which mode is selected. In the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, choose Shortcuts For: Tools and scroll down to the Direct Selection Mode Toggle option. Add your new keyboard shortcut here.
    As for your question about isolation mode keyboard shortcuts, this just means that you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut to this command as well (Select > Isolate Layers).

  • Photoshop Mask Layer, see through multiple layers.

    Dear All -
    I am a new learner to Photoshop and working on Layers and Layer Mask to obtain see through multiple Layers effect.
    Below is the description of my problem that I am looking forward towards resolution in this forum. I will be glad if some expert can guide me on this.
    I have three layers of different colors as below.
    Layer 1topmost layer) with Red color filled rectangle.
    Layer 2(below Layer 1) with Green color filled rectangle.
    Layer 3(bottom most layer, below Layer 2) with Blue color filled rectangle.
    When I erase something with brush on Layer 1 using masking Layer 1, it hollows the erased part and start showing the Green color of Layer 2 in hollow section of Layer 1.
    What I want to achieve is that, when I erase Layer 1 using layer mask, then it should hollow Layer 1 as well as Layer 2 and should show Blue color in the hollow section of Layer 1.
    i.e: Hollow section made on Layer 1(using Layer Mask on Layer 1) should also be applied on Layer 2 so that Layer 1 and Layer 2 becomes hollow using eraser and I should see through Layer 1 and Layer 2 and Blue color of Layer 3 should be visible from the hollow section.
    Though I can do this by Flattening Layer 1 and Layer 2 together so that it forms one single Image, and then when I hollow this Flattened image using Layer Mask, then it will show me Blue color. But I do not want to do this, as I would lose the flexibility to unhollow/recover the hollow region on both Layer 1 and Layer 2 independently in the future.
    Thank You,
    Saurabh Khanna.

    Here's a sample of copying the layer mask onto layer 2 using a hard cutout.
    Here's the same thing using a soft feather cutout.

  • Photoshop Elements select tool, when targeting layer or multiple layers the layer properties box pops up.  Having to very carefully and repeatedly select and highlight layers to move, or merge when using Move Tool.  Win 8, Adobe 12, Intuos 4 w/ updated dr

    This issue has been going on for several weeks.
    The Move Tool is not functioning properly when selecting and TARGETING a layer or multiple layers, as the Layer Properties box pops up requiring me to close it and try again.
    How to reset or is there an update and fix for this issue.
    Using Win 8, Elements 12, and Intuos 4 Pen and Tablet.

    To reset the tool I suggest click on it once and then look for something like this in the bottom half of your window:
    In the above picture I have marked one section in red box.  You need to click on it to get the option to either reset the only tool you have clicked or to reset all the tools in the editor window.  Of course you have to be in Expert Mode to get this to work.
    Good luck.

  • How to change blending mode on multiple layers at the same time

    I'm using CS5. I have a document with about 70 layers. I would like to change the blending mode to "lighten" for each layer. Is there an easy way to do this?

    Photoshop doesn't allow multiple layer editing. That's why the styles are grayed out. Only 1 layer at a time.
    What version are you talking about?
    CS5 definitely let’s one apply a Style to multiple Layers.
    rfcommagere, I don’t know how to make it much clearer:
    • set the Blending Mode on one Layer
    • with that Layer selected create a Style with »Include Layer Blending Options« checked
    • select all other Layers that should have that Blending Mode
    • click the Style in the Styles Panel

  • Convert multiple layers into separate smart objects

    I have multiple layers in a document that I want to make into separate smart objects.
    If I select them and choose "convert to smart object" in the Layers Panel fly out, it flattens the layers into 1 smart object.
    Can it be done, or do I need to make each layer a smart object one at a time.
    OR... let me back up
    I have several files in Bridge, I want to "load into Photoshop layers" using the TOOLS > Batch Command BUT have each file load as a smart object.
    Either way would be great!

    While these don't use the batch command, take a look at
    from within photoshop, File>Scripts>Load Files into Stack.
    For bridge try Dr. Browns Services:
    http://www.russellbrown.com/scripts.html
    If you have cs5, you can drag files from mini bridge into an existing
    photoshop document, for smart object layers, provided you have
    your preferences under general to place or drag raster images as smart objects.

  • How To Do Frame animation w/ Multiple Layers Per Frame

    So I'm working on an 8-bit character template as game art. I've got multiple layers (ie: Hat Apparel, Body, Pants, Shirt, Neck Apparel, Mouth Apparel). I want all of these to be animated in their own layers. Is there a way to do that? I have all of the layers  inside a group but I couldn't figure out a way to have a group in a frame. It would only take single layers per frame. I am not very advanced at Photoshop, I've dabbled but work more on the 3d/programming side of game design so sorry in advance if I over-complicate this

    For example this animation was made with two layer.  The top layer the jjmack linked letters has a layer mask that is not linked to the layers content. The other layer is the background layer. The first frame I created was both layers visible with the jjmack layers content positioned off canvas upper left and the second frame I created was both layers visible with the jjmack layer content lower and off canvas to the right. I had Photoshop generate all the frames tween them.

  • Multiple selections to multiple layers or multiple files with one go ?

    Hi,
    how to convert multiple selections to multiple layers or multiple files with one go ?
    Thanks!

    You may want to ask over at
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_scripting?view=discussions
    or
    http://ps-scripts.com/bb/
    I think there are Scripts about for the task or at least ones that could be adapted without too much problems.
    The usual approach is, I think, creating a Work Path from a Selection and then using (expanded) Selections based on the individual subPathItems to intersect with the original selection.
    Of course there are possibilities for bad results …

  • Merge multiple layers

    is it possible to select multiple layers (with layermask) and merge them?
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS6"
        tell current document
            set current layer to every layer of layer set "bloem 1-9" of layer set "Bloem"
            tell current layer
                merge
            end tell
        end tell
    end tell

    c.pfaffenbichler,
    You are right, this is the wrong place to ask.
    thanks.

  • Can't select multiple layers

    This sounds very obvious, I know.
    But! I have lost the ability to select multiple layers. Shift, Command, Control Click. Nothing works. I can't select them with the selection box like I used to either. There must be a setting or something that I accidentally clicked? If I can't select multiple layers I basically can't do anything including grouping or linking or merging layers in additon to a bunch of other stuff that is crutial!
    This is driving me batty.
    Thanks in advance.

    To supplement this it might also be a conflict with a third party software as well.
    If the keyboard tmethsd of resetting the preferences doesn't work then
    1. Quit Photoshop
    2.Go to User/username/Library/Preferences/ Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings and trash the settings folder, the whole folder not just the contents of the folder..
    3. Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new preferences file.
    Also if you recently updated your system there might be a conflict with the systems key board shortcuts, Like Spotlight, Universal access, dashboard and Exposé or asI said before it could be something like Quicken.
    Have you installed anything lately.

  • Change opacity of multiple layers in ImageReady?

    Does anyone know how to change opacity of MULTIPLE layers in Adobe  ImageReady CS2 (NOT cs5)? I have like 30 layers, and I'm trying to fade  out effect of all 30 layers, if I do it manually I'll have to click  layers and change opacity 300 times, that's ridiculous. When I  select all layers for some reason the opacity tab is faded out??

    This would be an excellent question for the Photoshop (ImageReady) forum.

  • Dragging To Select Multiple Layers In Document Window?

    I've looked this up but can't seem to make it work.  I want to select the 6 or 7 layers that make up a picture in my file.  I'm working with a file someone else created so there are dozens of layers, which makes it hard to select just a few from the Layers Pallete.
    Is there an easy way to select all the constituent layers of a particular item on the document window?  I've tried ho0lding Shift down while trying to select all the layers, but that isn't effective because the layers are on top of eachother.  Is there no way I can drag my mouse and have Photoshop select every layer that is complete inside the dragged area?
    Thanks.
    Ken

    Ken, Marek's response is correct with regard to selecting, (read: targeting), layers in the Layers Panel.This is good if you need to apply a transformation to the contents of multiple layers simultaneously, use alignment/distribution features on those layers, or merge them.
    Your description of what you're attempting, however, suggests you want to select the pixels residing on particular layers. The way you're doing it isn't the way it works. What you want can be done, but not in the image window. In the Layers Panel, Ctrl+Click on the layer thumbnail of the first layer you want selected, (you should see the actuated selection in the form of 'marching ants' surrounding the layer's non-transparent pixels...in the image), then add the Shift key and Shift+Ctrl+Click on the layer thumbnail of each of the additional layers to subsequently add their non-transparent pixels to the selection.
    Note that all you're doing here is making a selection, as opposed to selecting the contents of multiple layers. Such a selection can only target a single layer, and any pixel-altering operation you apply with this selection active will only affect one layer...not all those that may have contributed to the additive selection-building process described.

  • How to select and move objects on multiple layers

    Coming from Photoshop...  how do I move the contents of multiple layers across the page at one time?
    In photoshop, i would click on one or more layesr in the Layers panel, and then use the move tool to move them all on the page. How do I do that in Fireworks? It seems to be too basic to be documented anywhere I have seen but the interaction is very different. I tried  ctrl-clicking on multiple layers and sometimes is seems to work. the objects are selected and I can move them. Other times, it just refused to select anything or it only select the object within one of the selected layers.
    It sort of looks like selecting a layer selects objects in that layer unless the layer has a child layer. Is that true? Seems a strange limitation if it is.
    I saw a comment somewhere that suggrested grouping and ungrouping which seems a little complicated for a basic editing action. Also, if it won't select the objects on all of the selected layers.
    I'm guessing that I'm missing a basic concept in Fireworks here.

    I found that It worked if I selected a layer, if there is a child layer
    then shift>select and ctr+click other layers or objects. You could also
    lock layers/objects you don't want to move and use Select>Select All, if
    you are moving most items.

  • Selecting multiple layers and merge

    is it possible to select multiple layers (with layermask) and merge them?
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS6"
        tell current document
            set current layer to every layer of layer set "bloem 1-9" of layer set "Bloem"
            tell current layer
                merge
            end tell
        end tell
    end tell

    Yes, for that you have to select the layers that are in the set. Here is one way using javascript
    function selectLayerBelow( add ){
        var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
            var ref = new ActionReference();
            ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID( "Lyr " ), charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" ), charIDToTypeID( "Bckw" ) );
        desc.putReference( charIDToTypeID( "null" ), ref );
        if(add!=undefined && add = true )desc.putEnumerated( stringIDToTypeID('selectionModifier'), stringIDToTypeID('selectionModifierType'), stringIDToTypeID('addToSelectionContinuous') );
        desc.putBoolean( charIDToTypeID( "MkVs" ), false );
        executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "slct" ), desc, DialogModes.NO );
    // assumes a layerSet the the activeLayer and doesn't work correctly if there are nested layerSets
    var numberOfLayersInSet = app.activeDocument.activeLayer.layers.length;
    selectLayerBelow();
    for(var layerIndex = 1;layerIndex<numberOfLayersInSet;layerIndex++){
        selectLayerBelow( true );
    app.activeDocument.activeLayer.merge();

  • I want to make a new layer of multiple items on multiple layers...

    Hello,
    This is probably easy, but I can't figure it out.
    I have a multi layered document and I don't want to flatten things to do this.
    Sure I can go the long route, but there has gotta be a better way that I just
    do not know about.
    I have drawn a selection with the marquee tool. But the items this selection includes are all on separate
    layers.
    Without merging them, how can I make a new layer out of this selection?
    I'm on CS4
    Thanks
    Nikki

    Stamp multiple layers or linked layers
    When you stamp multiple selected layers or linked layers, Photoshop creates a new layer containing the merged content.
    Select multiple layers.
    Press Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Command+Option+E (Mac OS).
    Stamp all visible layers
    Turn visibility on for the layers you want to merge.
    Do one of the following:
    Press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Shift+Command+Option+E (Mac OS).
    Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS), and choose Layer > Merge Visible.
    Photoshop creates a new layer containing the merged content.
