Photoshop no longer opens after install of snow leopard

I just installed snow leopard & am no longer able to open Adobe Photoshop. I get an error message of:
"An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit."
Anyone else have &/or solve this problem?

I also upgraded to Snow Leopard, and work with Photoshop CS2 extensively.
- intel Mac 2.16 ghz 3GB RAM, btw.
Let me tell you, my problems:
It worked fine after installing Rosetta. It worked for a couple of weeks, with some blue screen crashes and Photoshop quits. but ran ok.
Then on a weekend that I had to finish up some work, Photohsop stopped working. Yikes! First it said I had to activate the product. Weird. Well I did, then basically CS2 stopped working and gave me an error message: "A Serious Error has occurred. Please reinstall the software"
Weird again. I reinstalled it. It still would not work. the same "Serious Error..." message. After diggin around on the internet, I found out about all the compatibility issues with ALL the Photoshops and Snow Leopard. I followed different paths/workarounds on deleting, reinstalling I could find on the net, all to no avail. It would always give me the "Serious Error" message. I called Adobe, but the Tech Support is not open on the weekends!
Bottom Line is I eventually had to clean reinstall Leopard OS, which wipes out the whole HD, And then I restored from a Time Machine Backup. BUT - I didn't want to restore from a 10.6 Time Machine Backup, so I had to go all the way back to an Aug. 10.5.8 backup on Time Machine. Good thing I kept my most recent work on another external drive or else I would have lost my work.
My Conclusions: *Photoshop CS2 DOES NOT WORK WITH SNOW LEOPARD*. From my experience, it seems my Photoshop CS2 reset itself to the 'beginning' and basically I was working on it as if it were a 15 day trial mode - after installing Snow Leopard. That's why it lasted for a couple of weeks, then asked me to 'Activate' it. After calling Adobe today, they told me that CS2 is not Tech Supported anymore - there won't be any fixes, patches for it. I should have searched some message boards before I upgraded, and NOT have purchased Snow Leopard. For me I'm happy and content to be living in the not-to-distant past of Leopard 10.5.8 and having Photoshop work properly.

  • Lion and snow leopard bootcamp, after installing lion snow leopard bootcamp with windows 7 does not boot

Just installed Lion OS  on my 2nd mac (on the 1st without an issue) but as I had a partition with windows 7 (installed with Snow Leopard bootcamp).
It seems that Lion OS renamed the Bootcamp partition but I am not able to rename it through OS.
Is there a solution for this or do I need to re-install?
    Many thanks for your help

Hi Jack.........ok ive managed to create a link to that video on how to install bootcamp.....this is the tutorial i used and i managed to gain 100% completion on bootcamp 1st time no messing......like i said in my previous reply did you save the windows support files from apple....(Critical).....ok no point in messing about i suggest you start again from scratch........these are the things i used and YOU will need to complete bootcamp
mem stick or cd-r / dvd-r......original copy disc of win 7 ...i never used an iso i used original disc....allow a minimum of 30gb of space for your win 7 partition.....if you want bootcamp so you can use big programs like windows based games i.e.....Crysis/Call of duty etc etc ..then you will need to consider that  you will need to allow a bigger partition to allow your HD to store the files.....this is the reason i installed bootcamp and so i made my partition    i have a 750GB HD so i made a partition of 300gb for windows 7 and left the other 450gb for Mac....so you need to partition enough for what you want bootcamp for remember once you get bootcamp working you will need to install ALL Important Windows updates Including Win 7 SP1......once everything is installed you will have bootcamp up and running lovely.....u can then boot up with either win7 or mac......click this link and watch carefully and do exactly as shown ok and you should be fine...if you have any probs contact me again ok.....let me know how you get on ok..:)...http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&v=QFIWtXTl4d0&NR=1

  • Sync iphone after install of Snow Leopard

Hi, I am having a problem getting the apps that are currently on my iphone onto my macbook.
The other day I did I clean install of snow leopard by formatting the hard drive then copied across my essential data my viewing my time machine backup and going into the newest date.
I had everything backed up apart from my apps, which I though would be associated with my account seen as I purchased the majority of them. I have just tried to buy the same app using my same account to find that I have been charge twice now.
The only thing that I can think of is that my card expired so I have had to add a new card number.

I had the same problem on a clean install. Apps appear on iPhone but not in iTunes.
Copy the actual (*.ipa) iPhone apps from your backup or time machine.
from old location: Home folder / music / iTunes / mobile applications
to new Snow Leopard Location: Home folder / music / iTunes / mobile applications
Select sync applications in iTunes Applications tab.

  • FCP will not open after upgrade to snow leopard

I ran MacKeeper on my MacPro, then my FCP would not open. Upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard, FCP still will not open.
By the way, I uninstalled MacKeeper, I think.  Need some help PLEASE!!!!!

It sounds like MacKeeper (it's junk! stay away!) did a number on your computer. Doing a major upgrade to a Mac when it already has problems will just exacerbate those problems.
Had you been using Time Machine? How long ago did you install MacKeeper?

  • Maxtor 1 Touch - Not showing up after install of Snow Leopard

My maxtor 1 touch external drive, connected via firewire worked fine on my mac running Leopard. Since installing Snow Leopard, it is not detected at all. I have done some research and found that the problem is that I had password protected the drive when I first set it up. The password was properly requested under Leopard. It seems, after discussions with Maxtor (Seagate) that the password protection is not compatable with Snow Leopard. They told me my option is to roll back to Leopard, take off the password, reinstall Snow Leopard. My reluctance to do this is the fact that to roll back to leopard I have to do an Erase & Install. Does anyone know of any other options that might work? Has anyone encountered this problem? Or maybe provide steps that would allow me to roll back to Leopard without doing "Erase and Install" process?

Really? No Leopard backup to fall back onto while you investigate SL? Bad ju ju that. See these for better practices:

  • Bento won't open after upgrading to Snow Leopard?

Bento will not open since installing / upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6 -- just simply tries to start up and quits immediately. Any suggestions other than trashing the existing application and restoring / reinstalling from my original software discs that came with my new Mac Book Pro laptop? It was working just fine prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday.

Download the updated version of Bento to use the application with Snow Leopard. This should fix the problem!

  • Optical drive no longer working after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I have read several of the posts about problems with the optical drive, but I think my problem is different.
    I have a MacBook Pro, early 2008 (non-unibody)
Under Leopard, I had no problems with the optical drive. I purchased Snow Leopard (the single disc, 10.6.3 version). The upgrade went smoothly. From that moment on, the optical drive fails to read both CD's and DVD's.
I have reset SMC and PRAM/NVRAM, but that made no difference.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Try running a DVD Lens Cleaner disc through it, a little bit of dust or dirt is all it takes to throw them out and it might just be co-incidental with the upgrade.

  • ESATA is no longer recognized after I reinstalled snow leopard

I have been using an Iogear 2-port adaptor card for an eSATA connection for Time Machine backups, have just reinstalled snow leopard because of the spinning beach ball (told to do it at the store). No other problems with the reinstall that I can tell yet, but now I can't make get it to recognize the eSATA connection. Have tried replugging and turning everything on and off. Any suggestions? Thanks-

Have you checked with vendor for your adapter card to see if they have an updated driver for Snow Leopard?

  • Why won't my Photoshop CS2 still open after installing CS4?

    Hi,
I've just installed CS4 Design standard on my PC - alongside my existing CS2 installation, because I didn't want to uninstall CS2 until I'd spent time getting used to CS4.
However, when I try to open images with Photoshop CS2, it's almost impossible to do so - CS4 Photoshop opens up instead. If I try to open an image using Bridge CS2, the only option is to open it with PS-CS4. Alternatively, if I right-click on the image in Windows Explorer and select 'Open with', my only option is PS-CS4 (Even if I select Browse at this point and navigate to the PS-CS2 exe, it still insists on opening PS-CS4.)
The only way I can successfully open images in PS-CS2 is to open the application first, using the shortcut in the Start menu or Quick Launch, and then I have to use File>Open to open the image.
Interestingly, I have no problems with InDesign - yes, ID-CS4 is the default if I double-click an ID file, but I can choose to use ID-CS2 by right clicking and selecting 'Open with'. Same goes for Illustrator.
Has anyone else had this problem with Photoshop CS2 and been able to work around it?
    Thanks,
    Steven

  • App store app will no longer open after installing Mavericks. How do I update in future??

Many of the apps that came with my MacBook Pro when I bought it direct from Apple last year now crash the moment the icon appears in the Dock since I installed Mavericks. These include Calendar, Pages, Contacts, Preview (all of these were updated after I installed Mavericks) and, most worrying, The App Store app. If and when Apple produces updates to sort out the bugs in the new system, how can I get them if I cannot open the App Store? Has anyone else found answers to these problems? I can get around some of these problems eg by installing Adobe Reader instead of Preview but I don't want to be stuck with a system I cannot update. Hey pomorain!
It sounds like you have an issue with your installation of Mavericks. I would suggest that attempt to Safe Boot your computer first as a troubleshooting step to see if the issue can be resolved that way:
OS X Mavericks: Start up in safe mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204
If you are still experiencing these issues, you may want to try reinstalling your installation of Mavericks:
OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Photoshop will not open after installing window's 7 updates

I'm in a bit of a dilema, any help is appreciated. My Windows 7 has updates. When it does this, Photoshop will not run. I have reverted the PC back before the update and Photoshop runs fine. The only thing is that the PC will update itself unless I turn the automatic updates off. Does anyone have a fix for this? Photoshop CS2, running on Windows' 7 Home Deluxe edition.
    Thank you,
    Tony

This is the error message I am receiving. A window pops up when I try to run Photoshop. At the top of the window is the directory entry
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Photoshop.exe
X Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
The only problem is that there is no access permissions. I just did the system update and now Photoshop will not run. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you,

  • GCC Elite 21n+ Printer Stop working after Upgrade to Snow Leopard

GCC Elite 21n+ B&W Laser Printer no longer works after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
A back-up HP 2015DN Printer works intermittently. It will not work with ethernet cable connected to Net Gear Ethernet Hub (model FS105). But will work most of the time when ethernet cable is connected directly to back of computer.
Back to GCC printer. Just cannot get it to work.
But I cannot figure out what the IP address is for the GCC printer. Tried 192.168.1.4:9300
See post (discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10127869). Still did not work.
GCC tech have this work around. Here is what I received from GCC via email.
    +At 01/02/2010 12:21 AM we wrote -+
+Since Apple has made the decision to eliminate Appletalk from it's Operating System, you are now forced to set the printer up over TCP/IP. Please keep in mind that GCC has never provided drivers for the Mac. We use the Apple Built in Print Driver. We do provide an OS X PPD Installer located on our website that I recommend you download, unstuff, install, reboot your Mac, then add the printer. You can find the Installer at http://www.gccprinters.com/support/doc/ Click on the Model of your printer and download the OS X Installer. DO NOT download the Applications Folder.+
+You will need to set the printer up over TCP/IP, which means you will need to pull the IP Address of the printer from the Printers Configuration Page. Once you've done that, please do the following:+
+You can add the printer over IP, that should work fine. Here are some steps for you to take.+
+1) Select 'System Preferences...' (4th item) from the 'Apple' menu. The 'System Preference' panel will appear as a new window.+
+2) Click on 'Print & Fax' icon (second row 'Hardware', second icon from right side). The 'System Preferences' panel will change into the 'Print & Fax' panel without opening a new window.+
+3) Click on the '+' button to add a printer (2/3 the way down on the left side on the 'Print & Fax' panel). The 'Add Printer' dialog will open in a new window.+
+4) Select the 'IP' icon in the top row of the 'Add Printer' dialog.+
+5) Next to 'Protocol' select LPD Line Printer Daemon.+
+6) Next to 'Address' type in the IP address you assigned to the printer. The Mac should prompt "complete and valid address".+
+7) (Optionally) Next to 'Name' set the name of the printer to something friendlier. Normally it defaults to the IP address enter in the previous step. The 'Name' is what the printer is called in the print dialog.+
+8) (Optionally) Next to 'Print Using' change/verify the PPD.+
+9) Click 'Add' in the bottom right corner. After a few moments the 'Add Printer' dialog will close.+
+10) The printer added in the previous step will appear in the list on the left side of the 'Print & Fax' panel. Click on the close box in the left-top of the 'Print & Fax' panel.+
+11) Done. You should be ready to print.+
Still cannot get the GCC printer to work or discover its IP address. Printer's Configuration page says
TCP/IP: Enabled IP address: Unknown subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
When I download the Drivers from GCC Web Site I only get a Text Document with loads of meaningless
gibberish. There is nothing to unstuff and install.
All worked well with OS 10.5.
    Thanks for shedding any light.
    John L.
    Thanks,
    John

    Hello John,
At this stage you will not be able to get this to print until the printer has a valid IP address. According to your post, the IP address setting is enabled but the actual IP address is unknown. This is most likely a result of the GCC being set to DHCP but if there is no DHCP server or router capable of assigning the printer an IP address, then it will not get a valid address.
So, the first thing I recommend is you check the documentation for manually setting an IP address into the printer. This address needs to be in the same subnet as your Mac. If you check System Preferences > Network on the Mac, you will see your IP address and subnet mask. If the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0, then you subnet will be the first three sets of numbers. For example, a device with an IP address of 192.168.1.12 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 has a subnet of 19.2.168.1 and a network address of 12. Ideally, so that other devices can communicate with this device, they also need a subnet of 192.168.1 but a different network address, any number between 1 and 250 but one that is not already being used by another device, such as 12 in this example.
Once you have the IP address set in the printer, then you add the printer as the GCC tech stated, using IP > LPD for the protocol. Note that you will only need to enter the IP address, such as 192.168.1.4 as per your post example. Don't enter any other numbers, such as the 9300 port reference you have tried already the colon after the IP address followed by the 9300).
For the Print Using, you can use Generic PostScript to begin with as a test. If you then wanted to use the GCC PPD, then the link is okay. When you select the 21+n the next page shows the 21+ installer for OS 9 and OS X. This is a stuffit packed file so you will need some form of Stuffit (Stuffit Expander is a free download) to unpack the file first. Once unpacked, there is most likely an installer that you run. This will copy the PPD files for the printer to the appropriate folder.
Hope this helps. Please reply if you require more help.

  • My Creative SBS250 speakers no londer work after upgrading to Snow leopard.  Where can I find the driverinstalling

My Creative SBS250 speakers no longer work after upgrading to Snow Leopard.  Where can I find the driver?  Thanks

Everyone in my household who has upgraded to Snow Leopard has had the same problems with program crashes and the computer "forgetting" registration codes.
In fact, after re-entering codes, and then upgrading to 10.6.1, we had to re-enter them again because it forgot (again) that we had bought/registered the software. It was a lot of fun digging through old emails and such looking for the codes, let me tell you.
I'm pulling a Vista and downgrading my computer back to 10.5.x. That was stable and remembered my software, at least.

  • Can't open Virtual Machines after "Archive and Install" of Snow Leopard OS

    Hi all,
Please bear with me while I provide a bit of background info for my issue:
I just installed a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS5, during which I was actually forced to archive and install my Snow Leopard because of an installation error. So, I inserted my Snow Leopard disc and let the OS X installer do its thing. I remember, somewhere along the way, an admonishment that this process may somehow corrupt any virtual machines that may be installed, but throwing caution to the wind, I went ahead anyway.
Well, turns out it did indeed corrupt my installation of Parallels 6 somehow, and now none of my VMs work. When I open Parallels, and select File -> Open, then select whichever VM I want, a screen flashes so quickly I can't see it (I assume it says something like "Opening XYZ Virtual Machine"), and then.......nothing.
Thus far, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Parallels 6 (using the KB article that directs you to delete a bunch of files via Terminal after running the packaged uninstaller) and I deleted my VMs and restored backup copies of them from several months ago.
I'm now at a loss - any ideas what I can do to get Parallels to function again? I don't know if somehow permissions were modified, or if there are any other particulars that the reinstall of Snow Leopard may have made to cause parallels to be unable to open my VMs.
    Appreciate any advice in advance!

    I think I would look at if you have the latest Parallels;
    clone and backup your system and files before doing anything;
boot off 2nd hard drive and run Apple First Aid + (Disk Warrior or DG3 or TechTool Pro 5).
Always be prepared to be able to restore your system to prior point, that could even mean keeping 10.6.4 around for a month until you know 10.6.5 and 3rd party software and drivers all play nice together.
Bottom line: invest in two backup sets and methods; a copy of SuperDuper or CCC; and Disk Warrior.
I've used VBox, Fusion but not Parallels, plus Windows XP Mode, VHDs and VMs under Windows Vista/7.
I'd go back to ERASE and INSTALL and then do all your updates, then start on 3rd party with main packages first (CS5 and others). Off load, save, backup everything and anything you might need first of course.
Last but actually #1: a small 30GB OS X 10.6.5 drive volume (can take the 30GB from one of your backup drive is fine) so you can run the latest DU plus other system maintenance (DVDs get old, out of date, slow to boot, can't use Finder and other programs).
