Photoshop not recognizing graphics driver

I have a brand new Sony Vaio i7 core, 8 gig's of ram and 1Tb hd, and I get this message whenever I fire up Phontoshop: "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered. Say's I need 512Meg of Ram, but I have 8Gig's of Ram. The the message is followed by a pop-up that says the video driver may need to be updated, but I checked and it doesn't. It says it can't do 3d, I don't need it too, but it's annoying that it's not recognizing a driver on a brand new computer. Any ideas if there is a way to get this working properly? Thanks!

There is no "Photoshop online".
What version of Photoshop are you using?
And the display driver message refers to bugs in your display driver, plus the requirements to have 512 Meg of VRAM (not RAM) on your video card to use the 3D features.
You need to update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website to pick up all the latest bug fixes. Updates from Microsoft are years out of date.

  • Usb port not recognizing external drive

When I plug my external backup drive, Lacie, into either USB ports on my MacBook Pro, it is not recognizing the drive. Not sure if I powered down incorrectly. It use to recognize it. Help.

Start by looking for the drive in the Apple System Profiler (from the Apple menu's far left Apple logo>About This Mac>More Info>Hardware (in left column) >USB.) If the drive is correctly powered and connected, it will show up here.
If it doesn't show up, the problem is with the drive. With the drive plugged in, put your ear to the drive and listen for the whirring sound the drive makes when it is powered up. If it isn't making any sound, ot's either a bad drive or a bad power supply.
If the drive is making sound , then the problem is probably the USB cable or your USB port. Try a different USB cable. This should fix the problem; if all the above tests were good and the drive still doesn't mount, it may be the USB controller in the Mac. That's a serious problem that requires repair or installation of an aftermarket USB controller.
    Hope this helps

  • Photoshop not recognizing PSD files

My PSD files are not being recognized.  When I go to Properties and then Open With, and browse to the Photoshop application as usual, I am unable to select Photoshop as the program to open my file.  I am completely baffled.
It looks like the Open With function is not recognizing PhotoShop, and I do not know if this is a Photoshop error or a Windows error.
Other Adobe programs are working and are recognized just fine.  I am using Windows 7 and Photoshop CS4.  I am running up-to-date Norton 360 so it is extremnely unliklely to be a virus.
    Help please!

Sounds like a basic system problem, not a problem with Photoshop per se...
First, Photoshop should have installed itself so that it would automatically be in the list of programs available to open that file type.
Second, if it's not there by default, browsing to the Photoshop.exe file should make it work as you expect.
I've just opened a file from my desktop using Right Click, then Open With, and choosing Photoshop.exe as you have described.  However, in my case Photoshop is already in the list of Recommended Programs.
Out of curiosity, do you see it in the list of "Other Programs" toward the bottom of the Open With dialog?  You'll have to click on the little arrow to the right to see them.

  • Question re: MacBook not recognizing hard drive...

Question: When a MacBook is not recognizing it's hard drive, what are the basic steps one can take to fix?
Have been reading through the posts the past few hours, and do see information on this, but am wondering/hoping someone can simplify a bit for me? Am not very computer savvy...
Would so greatly appreciate any help

Boot from your Install DVD and go to Disk Utility and find the hard drive from there and repair it.
If DU can't find the HD then it's probably defective.

    Hi kruione,
If you are having an issue with an external drive not being detected by your iMac, I would suggest resetting the computer's parameter RAM. See this article for how -

  • Early 2009 mac pro not recognizing DVD drives

My Mac Pro 8 core since upgrading to Mavericks is not recognizing my Blu Ray drive unless I unplug it and re plug it in while hot.....what is this issue?

I think I have a similar sitch. I just bought a rMPB 15 with Mavericks and hooked it up to the same setup of my old 2009 17" MPB. I inserted the Logic Pro 9 install disk in my external LaCie DVD RW drive and the light on the front keeps flashing steadily as if the disk is being read but it never mounts on the desktop. I ejected the disk and installed the Logic Studio Audio Content 1 disk and it mounted fine. I inserted the Logic Pro 9 install disk into the drive on the old 17" and it mounted fine there as well. So I am at a loss as to what the glitch is and I can't be sure if its the DVD RW drive, the rMPB itself, Mavericks, or both or neither or....????

I plugged n the GB Thunderbolt adapter in my 13" Air and it is not recognized.  Trying to install theTB  update I get the message that I need 10.7 but I am running 10.8.4.  Help!

    Hi,
I did install from the disk image you referenced and it worked. I still haven't been able to print wirelessly, but now that I have the correct PPD, I should be able to figure out the rest.
As for my OS, I misspoke. The PowerBook IS running 10.4.11. I work on a lot of different machines and sometimes I forget which was the latest build of the OS on the machine I'm working on at the time. Ah, the senior moments.
Anyway, thanks for pointing me to the download that solved the problem at hand. Now, on to the next issue ;-)

  • Time Machine Backups Not Recognized When Drive Added to Airport Extreme

Since January, I have been taking backups of my Mac Pro with Time Machine and a SimpleTech external drive plugged into a USB port.
Recently, I purchased an Airport Extreme router and decided that plugging the SimpeTech drive into the router would provide access all the times. After plugging the drive into the router and providing the correct password, Voila!, instant access.
Later, when it became time for the next scheduled backup, initially TM could not find the drive. No problem... in TM preferences, the SimpleTech drive was listed as available, and so it was a simple matter to telling TM to use that drive.
So far, so good... but now the issue.
Instead of creating the next incremental backup in the set, Time Machine created a new folder and started taking a full backup of the entire HD as if it were the first backup being taken. Incidentally, the name of the computer in the original backup set was "Ron's Computer". Now, TM says that it is backing up "Ron's Computer 78989018975923789637289795278957928". Obviously, I would like TM to continue taking backups of "Ron's Computer" using the original set of incremental backups.
Have I incorrectly added the drive to the network?
Was there something I failed to do in the TM setup?
I interrupted the full backup assuming that (a) it could not be merged with the original set of incrementals and (b) I would not/should not do so anyway.
Anyone else have this issue? Resolution?

I commented on another thread and came to a surprising revelation:
Time Machine backups are created differently depending on if the target drive is connected locally or if it is connected as a network attached storage (NAS) device.
Your initial backup was via a local HDD. Once connected to your AXBS, TM treats your external HDD as a NAS. Now TM will create a sparsebundle backup which is DIFFERENT than your initial local backup. It cannot add to your first backup even though it's right there on the drive. I believe you can still access the backups (ctrl-click the TM icon -> Browse other TM disks). If the old backup doesn't have too much important info, just continue with the new backup as the wireless backup option is functional. I don't know if the old backup will be deleted without warning if space starts to run out, though.
If you are intent on continuing with the old backup (January is a long time), check out these links (not really for the faint of heart):

  • 'No' symbol on start-up, disk utility not recognizing internal drive

    Need a little assistance.
Two days ago I was using the Macbook and it froze. Restarted and I was hit with the international no symbol. I've also gotten the blinking file folder at times when I've tried the holding down of various buttons on start-up.
I put a Hitachi 750 gb harddrive in last fall, it has been working fine up until now.
I do not have the system disk for Snow Leopard on hand, so until I can get it from my Dad, I decided to check on the system disk I actually have from the laptop purchase in 2007.
This allowed me to get to the start-up disk and disk utility area. I could not find my external harddrive in the list for a start-up, and it is the back-up using Time Machine. I also could not get the internal harddrive to be found in the utility so I could do a repair. It did seem to recognize that there is a drive, but not the actual named portion of it that contains the info.
I removed the internal and put it in an external case: my netbook recognizes that there is hardware, but does not let me access it. I attribute this to the fact that the drive is formatted for Mac and the Windows machine can't recognize the data.
My next step was to see if my old iMac would recognize the internal as an external, but since I don't know where the keyboard is and it is running an early version of OS X, figured it won't do me much good.
What is my next step? Will the Snow Leopard disk make a difference? Or is the reaction with the older system disk going to carry on the same way with Snow Leopard?
I was going to buy a Macbook Pro, but not for over another month, so I'm hoping I can figure something out with this and make it last a little longer.

I hooked my internal as an external up to my Mom's Macbook Pro and it recognized my HD. I'm thinking it is something internal with the hook-up, which is awesome, because maybe I can actually fix it!!!!  Any thoughts?

  • Tiger install not recognizing hard drive

G3 desktop/400MHz/512 MB RAM/20 GB Western Digital EIDE HD/ OS X 10.4 retail install DVD.
My friend gave me the aforementioned Mac, minus the HD which he kept, but with the 10.4 install disk. The computer was working fine before.
I had a blank NTFS-formatted HD to use in it, and from reading Mac forums I knew the Mac wouldn't recognize it, so I used a PC to format it in FAT32 before the install.
    Install Steps:
    1. Booted, holding down the C key.
    2. Selected English as the language, but didn't click Continue.
    3. Went straight to Disk Utility, and the only drive it shows is the DVD drive
and the DVD itself. System Profiler shows everything but the HD.
While installing the OS I reached the "Select a Destination Volume" step, and the HD is not listed. The "Options" button is greyed out as well.
I went to the Terminal option and typed in "df -k" as a friend suggested, then went back to the "Select a Destination Volume" step, but the drive is still not listed.
Thinking it could be the drive (which was Windows-formatted and found zero errors on) I popped in another drive, with the same results. I also replaced the IDE cable, to no avail.
All cables are seated properly and the HD is receiving power.
This is my first Mac since 8.1 and I had planned on using this one to refamiliarize myself with the platform before buying a high-end model, so I'm pretty much flying blind here.
Any ideas on how to get the HD recognized?

    Okay, a bunch of things.
The Blue & White model comes in different flavors. The Rev. 1 is very conservative about hard drives it will accept. I believe it was known as the "Heartbreaker"

If the drive isn't being seen at all then that's something fundamental since even a Windows drive should be seen in Disk Utility. Are the jumpers set correctly on the drive? You might need to take this particular question over to the hardware forum.

  • Not recognizing external drive - WD in an Enclosure...

I hate to post this given all the other posts wrt external drive not working - wish I'd read those before making a purchase....
I bought an internal WD 1TB drive, put it in an enclosure (Vantec NexStar 3) with a firewire 800 conection. Connected and formatted beutifully. Copied files to and deleted from without a problem...
then started moving some iMovie files over - left the room for a while, came back (about 1/2 hour) and the WD drive was no longer recognized. Couldn't figure out how to get it back. I've managed to get it back a couple of times over the past 3 days, but hard to figure out the sequences that make it work.
I also have a WD Network drive and it looks like there may be a conflict between the two as it is hard to get both on at the same time - though that has been successful a couple of times.
    2 questions:
    1) is there a way to set WD drives to not sleep? or to sleep in accordance with the Mac? (from all the reading of similar issues, it sounds like that could be an issue.)
    2) any idea how to check for drive conflicts on a Mac?
any other ideas about what it is would be great!!
I'm right now trying to get it connected so I can get the files off it, format it, and take it back - then purchase a Mac-specific drive from one of the known vendors I've been hearing about on this forum. (any recommendations about which would be better/best? 1TB or greater, firewire 800, for working on iMovie movies prediminently)
    Thanks in advance!

WD drive mechanisms work very well. Most of my drives are currently WD, including the one that came installed inside my iMac. I like them because they seem to run quiet and cool. It's the Western Digital branded external drive enclosures that I've seen negative commentary about in various forums.
is there a way to set WD drives to not sleep? or to sleep in accordance with the Mac?
When the drive is in an external enclosure, I believe that is a function of the enclosure, not the drive mechanism. The enclosures I currently own are from Mac-oriented vendors (like OWC - www.macsales.com) and they can sense and follow the wake/sleep/off status of the Mac it is connected to automatically. I tend to buy such products from companies that specialize in supporting Mac users, because they have fully tested their products with Macs. In addition to OWC, others include LaCie, Macally, and G-Drive.
any idea how to check for drive conflicts on a Mac?
So the new drive (Vantec) is FireWire 800. Is the "WD network drive" connect via USB? I don't think there would be any conflict if it was connected over a network.
Mac OS X does not have things like Windows drive letters, so the usual conflict is a hardware conflict, or a case of exceeding the power available on the bus (whether it's USB or FireWire). Disconnect all other peripherals except a standard keyboard/mouse. Make sure each drive works by itself. Then connect the two at the same time. Then add any other peripherals one at a time. And make note of when, and if, there is a failure.
Also, it is easy to not consider how many devices you have connected to one power strip that is connected to one power outlet. There is a limit to how much power can go through a single power outlet, so if it looks even remotely crowded, be sure to spread the power cords for the iMac, external drives, second display, cell phone charger, USB hub, printer, your desk lamp, etc. to two or even three power strips connected to separate power outlets.

  • New Operating System Not Recognizing Hard Drive

I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro's operating system to a OSX Maverisks and afterwards, my computer no longer recognized my Toshiba hard drive. Why is this and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

    Hi, Mark:
Is your new hard drive being recognized in the BIOS?
If not, none of the info you posted matters. There are no drivers needed for the BIOS to recognize that a hard drive is installed.
If you are trying to install windows vista or windows 7 using microsoft OEM DVD's, again, there are no drivers to install as they are included with the installation disk.
If you are trying to install W7 with a set of HP recovery disks, you may need this patch:

If you are installing windows XP, the information you posted applies. XP does not have the SATA drivers necessary to install the operating system.
If you are installing XP, I will send you the link to the SATA ACHI drivers you need.
