Photoshop not saving preferences

I am having an issue with Photoshop not saving my preferences. I have created my own workspace but everytime I quit the application and restart it I still have to go through and reset all my preferences. Any thoughts on this?

I believe that would be the date that our tech team installed CS5 on my new computer. As a side note, our tech team consists of all PC people, there isn't one Mac expert among them and they didn't seem too confident setting the user accounts up. The entire team has had nothing but issues with our brand new macs + CS5. But I am not sure what part of that is Apple/Adobe/Tech fault.
When I "get info" on the settings folder my user account does not appear in the list. I changed the settings so that everyone has read & write permissions and that solved the problem. But that seems odd to me. Like I might have a much bigger permissions issue...?
Anyway, problem solved! Thanks Chris!

  • Lion not saving preferences

I just switched to a new retina macbook, with os 10.7. I'm having trouble with Linotype Font Explorer X not retaining its settings - previously, you could turn a font on & it would stay on. Although sometimes it does retain some of the font settings, but not all.
I've also noticed other programs occasionally not saving preferences.
Is this a known issue with Lion?

Make sure the systemprefs plist file is not locked. If it is, unlock it. If it isn't, delete it then restart.
    To find the file
    1. Make Finder active. Choose 'Go' from the menu bar, hold down the option key.
    2. Choose Library (you must have the 'option' key held down).
    3. Go to Preferences > com.apple.systemprefereces.plist
    4. Right-click (or hit 'cmd-i' on the keyboard) and choose 'Get Info'. If the 'Locked' option is ticked, untick it. Then Restart. If the 'Locked' option is not ticked, close the dialogue, remove the file to trash. Restart.
    5. What happens now is that system will restart at default system prefs. However, it should now save your new settings. To test it, just set one of the setting that you know didn't 'stick before', then restart and see if all is good.

  • Yosemite Mail mail not saving preferences

    OS X 10.10, Mail 8.0
I have several mail accounts set up, a mix of POP and IMAP
One IMAP account does not use secure authentication.
If I set the preferences for the account under the Advanced tab, and tick 'Allow insecure authentication', then save preferences, I can send mail to the account.
However if I return to Mail after 5 minutes or so the preference has changed back to disallow insecure authentication, and that mail account no loner works. I get a message:
"Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk."
I have a POP account for a different email address with the same provider, and the preference to allow insecure authentication is saved.
I have tried deleting the account and setting it ip again, but the IMAP presence to use insecure authentication is still not saved.

I have this issue as well.  This includes the inability of font preferences to stick, and the toolbar changes to be retained.

  • Photoshop not saving pngs properly

My team and I have been having issues with generate image assets not saving png files correctly. Photoshop has been saving them with the png extension, but the file has a white background like a jpg. Has there been in recent updates that may be causing this? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I think the default with Generator is 24 bit, but I tried an 8 bit one and I was able to get transparency.  Can you post a screen shot of you layer pallet to see what you've got?  Here's a sample with a layer forcing an 8 bit png and the result - pretty bad quality - png 24 is much better!

  • JDeveloper 11g Not saving preferences

    Hi.
I'm not beeing able to save my IDE preferences. For example, by default the option Line Gutter - Show Line Numbers, is not checked. If I check this option, and click ok, when I open the preferences again, the option is not checked.
This is happening for any option I change, another example is the option JSP and HTML Visual Editor - Show design time messages in log. I cannot set this property.
Any idea on how to fix this ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Sincerely,
    John

I think I've solved the problem.
I started JDev, in console mode (using jdev.exe).
When I clicked ok in the preferences dialog, I got the following stackTrace:

This led me to think that my proxy configuration was wrong. Went to the proxy configuration option, and I noticed that "Proxy server requires authentication" was checked, but my user and password were null. I filled these fields and clicked test Proxy. Got the same stackTrace, and after clicking ok, returning to the prferences dialog box, the user and password was not saved. What I did was, wen to the Check for updates under the help menu, and when it tried to connect, it couldn't because there were no user and password information saved. It showed me a dialog to put the user and password. After I've filled these fields, it did connect to Oracle update site. Closed that window, and went back to the preferences dialog. Then the user and password were saved correctly. Clicking on the test Proxy button, did not give me any stackTrace. Tried to change the Line Gutter setting, clicked ok, and the re-opened the preferences dailog. The properties was saved correctly.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • Photoshop CC not saving preferences

    Hi,
i am on OSX 10.9 and my Photoshop CC is not working properly: everytime i close the application (not forced quit!) it is not remembering any settings. Neither my workspaces nor any preferences i did manually. It always goes back to the default view on every time is start up Photoshop. It saves my workspaces in the Preferences folder physically but they seem to lack of any information.
I already took a look on the user rights of the Preferences folder and its fine.
I also reinstalled Photoshop and the most awkward thing is, that i also did a complete clean reinstall of my system. Still the same problem, which is really annoying.
    Regards
    Ben

Same problem here. No answer from Adobe except "try restarting"

  • Photoshop Not Saving Due to Program Error

Just had a user unable to save a document. Didn't matter is it was to a local HD, server or even a USB Thumbdrive. We traced it down to a single Hue Saturation adjustment layer and layer mask. Once removed, the document saved.
Any ideas on what could cause this?
    Thanks,
    Scott Griswold

Reset the tool from the drop-down menu. If that doesn't help, reset your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • Photoshop Not Saving 3D Files?

    Hello,
Recently, I created an image in Photoshop. That image was made to appear as if it was 3D by duplicating the original image, rotating it, and putting it on the back of the first layer. However, when I go to import it into After Effects, only the original layer shows...
    Any ideas?
Running Windows 8.1, Adobe Collection CS6
    Thanks,
    Jack Reynolds

Please describe the process in more detail (including OS etc.).
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Photoshop not saving current document but temp file OK...

Hi, this is slightly difficult to explain but happened twice yesterday. We have not experienced it before and have not updated out CS6 apps recently:
Situation – Photoshop 13.1.1 x64. Mac Pro 3.33 6-core running OSX 10.6.8, 48Gb RAM. Working on a large-ish .PSD file (650 Mb) and saving to a network drive (a Drobo connected to a server) which is our usual routine and has been for years.
Problem – When I save the document and close it, the saved file (in the correct target location) shows the correct modified time and date stamp but if you open that file up again a lot of work is missing. In this instance, about the last half hours work (since the previous time I saved it). However, if you then go to File > Open Recent and choose the file name, the document opens with all the missing up-to-date work in it.
Clearly, File > Open Recent is opening a temporary document somewhere and not the saved file in the target location.
My concern is why isn't the saved file (with correct modified time and date) up-to-date? Suddenly we are having to double check every PS file we work on and save and that is not practical.
    Any help greatly received.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Clearly, File > Open Recent is opening a temporary document somewhere and not the saved file in the target location.
ctrl-clicking the name (in non-tabbed view at least) should indicate the actual path of the file.
and saving to a network drive
Well, as far as I know Adobe washes its hands of any such set-up and if there are issues with Photoshop and a server you are on your own.

  • Multiple Edits in Photoshop not saving into Lightroom?

In Lightroom 3 I was able to edit in Photoshop, save the file, then make another edit in photoshop and save it under a different name, and that file would also show up in Lightroom.
    For example;
in Lightroom I select "Image 1" and select edit in photoshop,
I edit this in photoshop and save.
    Lightroom shows "Image 1-edit"
I make another edit and select "Save As" and save it as "Image 1 Alternate".
"Image 1 Alternate" shows up in Lightroom next to "Image 1-edit"
This does not appear to be happening with Lightroom 4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
    Thanks for your replies

    Medic1542 wrote:
Additional "save as" edits are saved into Lightroom 3. It does not "break the link".
I'm assuming here that you are using Photoshop CS5.x and the current version of Camera Raw? If so, this is as expected...LR4 is using a pipeline that will match up to ACR 7 when it's released.
As it is now, LR4 must actually do the processing prior tp sending it to Photoshop. LR4 also has to save the file on disk prior to sending it to Photoshop.
If you were using ACR 7 in CS6 then ACR would actually be doing the processing and the behavior of this way of opening in Photoshop does NOT have to save the file prior to sending it to Photoshop. When ACR does the opening, you can do a Save or a Save As and Lightroom will know about those saves. Pretty LR4 doesn't know where the Save As file goes to and that's why it isn't showing up.
The two basic behaviors; LR synced with ACR and LR not synced with ACR goes back to version 2 (I think). It's a limitation in LR when LR and ACR aren't in sync.

  • Photoshop not saving correctly with mcx folder redirection

Students have network homes with their cache folders redirected to local drives as per:
    http://houseofmac.wordpress.com/2010/11/03/os-x-network-home-folder-redirection/
Everything has been working fine, but lately several users are not able to save files in photoshop.
Save As takes them to the invisible cache folder in tmp on the local drive.
Photoshop allows them to select the desktop or documents folder as the destination for their saves, but their files are not visible or accessible there.
When I log into the local machine as admin and check their cache folders, the files are not there either.
    Client machines are 10.7.5
    Server is 10.5.8
    Photoshop is CS6
    Any ideas?

    Correction:
Photoshop's Save As... takes them to tmp in private at the root of the server's startup volume.
This is sporadic, and seems to happen only when there is a "large" group (30!) of clients all logged in at the same time.
Clients are connected to the server via 100 Mbs network.
    Server has 2GB SDRAM

  • Not Saving Preferences

When I open Bridge in the mornings I have to set my preferences and the settings stay all day. But if I have to close Bridge or when I open Bridge the next day the preferences all not set to the way I set them the day before. What do I need to do or look at to get the preferences to stay?
I know questions about preferences have been asked before but when I do a forum search for things about preferences it comes up no results. It comes up no results no matter what I type. Don't know if this is on our end or not.
         Thanks...

You either need to disable:start Bridge at Login" (adv. preferences) or close Bridge with the Exit - clicking the X is not the same.
Personally I do not like Bridge to run in the background as it can cause other problem, downloads, external drive recognition for a few seconds it take to load it manually.

  • Not saving preferences after change in music folder

I've successfully moved the Itunes location (folder) before on my laptop, changing the place where music was stored, but I had major problems getting that IBM Thinkpad to work with my brand new Ipod. So I brought the external hard drive back down to my old PC. So here's what happens. I follow all the directions for making that external drive my Itunes folder location (Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Change folder, etc) but then the next time I start up the program, it has reverted back to C:.../mymusic/itunes. Very frustrating and I have no idea why. It didn't happen on the other computer.
A similar problem is that on the laptop, I did not have to keep signing in to the Itunes store, now I do. Again, Itunes seems to forget every change from it's last session. Any ideas

  • Photoshop not saving my edits

    Hello,
I recently did an edit of a picture in Lightroom, and sent it to Photoshop to save it as a Jpeg. It does save it as a Jpeg, however, it does not save my edits, only the original file. What am I doing wrong?

I wonder if it is being hidden. Lightroom can hide identical image names with different extensions.

  • Notification center not saving preferences

    OSX10.10 MacBook Pro, 2.8 GHz, i7, 4 GB
I have most notifications turned off.  When I reboot, the Notification Center resets to defaults.  Won't save my prefs.  Anyone else find this and hopefully have a solution?  Thanks.

Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
    1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
    2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
    3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
    4. Next, open the Terminal application.
Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
    cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
    rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
    killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
    5. Close the Terminal app.
    6. Restart your computer.
The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this.
