Photoshop not utilizing extra installed RAM

I have 9gigs total RAM in my 8-core, OS 10.5.1 and I'm running Photoshop cs2. Going to the finder and selecting 'About this Mac' correctly shows the 9 gigs but when in Photoshop under preferences>memory it shows the available Ram as 3072MB! What gives? I'm working on a large file that it should handle but it's just poking along. ...slow enough for me to go make a sandwich...40% efficiency. How can I correct this and get this Mac zippy again? I've already been to Adobe.com with no results.

Upgrade to CS3. Leopard uses free inactive memory as cache.
With large files, you will still want/need to have a dedicated scratch volume, not the boot volume, and a stripped raid helps. Also a dedicated media drive, which could be raid. If they are 1GB or larger, a fast stripped boot RAID would be nice or next, pair of 10K Raptors or 750GB RE2s.
But don't use CS2. It was murder because it is not universal, runs under PPC Rosetta.
With CS3 and Tiger, you need the Adobe VMBuffer plug-in to use available memory as cache (think "RAM disk volume") but not in Leopard.
Also, there are conflicts on CS2 with some plug-ins.
I know some with even more memory, plus boot RAID, and 4-8 drives in stripped scratch array, but working on files 1.5 - 3GB in size, or large amount of files to process.

Fix for Photoshop not running after install

Hi all,
I recently purchased Photoshop CC and tried to install it on my home built computer that has an SSD for the OS and an HDD for my installed programs. When I went to run Photoshop after I installed it, it gave me an error message saying that it could not find a good version of Adobe Application Manager, saying it was damaged or broken. After numerous attempts to fix the problem, an Adobe technical support team member named Arul copied the Adobe folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files to my HDD E:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files. Following this Photoshop and Lightroom booted up without a hitch.

Dual Layer Setting Not Utilizing Extra Space

My video is 4 hours long. I burned a regular DVD which used 4GB of space on the DVD. Then I tried to burn a Dual Layer DVD. Encore showed that it would again only use 4 GB of space (leaving like 3.68GB free. I tried it anyway, and sure enough, that's what it did. The DL Disc it burned looked just as bad as the regular DVD. Why didn't Encore attempt to fill the entire 8.5GB DL Disc?

I agree with Stanley, that En is still using the cached Transcode files, so is NOT increasing the bit-rate. Though you have increased the available disc space, En is still in DVD-5 mode.
Let us know if the Revert to Original, and a new Transcode improves things. Remember, there is a limit to the bit-rate available on DVD, so things might not change THAT much.

RAM not utilized properly

Hi, Please help?
I have dell power egde 2950 having windows server 2003 enterpprise edition 32Bit, and i have 32GB RAM.
windows is showing 32GB every where,and i have Oracle DB 9i installed on the server.
but Oracle is not utilizing the RAM properly , like under 1 GB
Please help, The server is up and live, its better if i can correct this problem without restarting.

Hi in windows 2003 server especially on 32-bit systems there is a limitation for using memory beyond 2 GB.
recently i got this problem. there are 2 solutions for this.
sol 1
you need to change the parameter in boot.ini file (it is OS critical file and these changes should be done by SA - not by DBA)
sol 2
you can decrease the size of SGA (use sga_target if 10g) and increase the size of PGA.
we implemented sol 2 and its working fine since 1 month.

i'm not sure your expectations are realistic. ps 5 was designed for win95.
you can't fault adobe for failing to design ps 5 so it would be compatibile with an os that wasn't in existance when ps 5 was released.
to be sure, adobe did not warrant their software would work with all future operating systems. and no other software company can or does make such a claim.

Photoshop CS4 will not launch after installing Yosemite. All the other CS4 apps open. I upgraded Java. Genius Bar could not get it to launch.

Here's the fix I found, by way of an explanation...
Snow Leopard prompted me on my first startup with the following error:
"There is a conflict with the _______ font file. This font file contains a font name that conflicts with a system font required by Mac OS X to display onscreen text. You should move this font file to the Trash."
The fonts it said were conflicting: Helvetica, HelveticaNeue.dfont, Lucida Grande, and Monaco. I figured Snow Leopard probably wanted to replace these fonts with newer versions, and so I clicked "Move to Trash" on all four.
Apparently 10.6 trashed these fonts but didn't replace them. This was causing Photoshop to crash on load.
So I restored my ~/Library/Fonts folder from a backup made just before upgrading and this time after a reboot I said "Allow Conflict" on all four dialog boxes and launched Photoshop... everything is back to normal!
Not sure what kind of "conflict" it's referring to, but apparently moving these font files to the trash as OS X prompted me to do broke a number of apps. Should I report this as a bug?

In the end it was the NVIDIA software - excluding PS as application for support by high performance graphic processor to save energy - activated NVIDIA card use for PS & LR all fine now.

PSE and PRE have different serial numbers. If you bought both programs you should have two separate serial numbers.

Photoshop Elements 11 Silent install not that silent

After following the Silent Install Instructions here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/silent-install-instructions-photoshop-element s-1.html it still is not fully silent.
As mentioned in the KB article you need to create a application.xml.override file that is said to supress the Eula but it still shows up.
The actual install of the software is silent but on first start it shows the ElementsOrganizer EULA then makes you select a Country/Region and then shows the Photoshop Elements 11 EULA.
Is there any way that we can supress both of the EULA's and automatically mark Australia as the Country/Region??

That did help out alot. In the end I added Country=12 on to the end of my install command which is the country code for Australia.
I also added in another line in to both of the application.xml.override file which supressed the EULA's

I also used this method for a silent uninstall which might help other users
Uninstall PSE-10 in silent mode
Open the command prompt in the administrator mode.
(Windows XP) Choose Start > Run. Enter cmd in the Run window, and press OK.
(Windows 7 and Windows XP) Click Start (Windows-Logo), and type "cmd". Press [Shift]+[CTRL]+[ENTER].
Run the following command to uninstall Photoshop Elements.Verify that the Photoshop Elements 10 folder has been removed from the Program Files folder after running the command.
start /wait Msiexec /x { EE549AF9-8FAA-4584-83B2-ECF1BC9DC1FF} NOT_STANDALONE=1 /qn
After the uninstallation is complete, run the following command to uninstall Elements Organizer. Verify that the Elements 10 Organizer folder has been removed from the Program Files folder after running the command.
