Photoshop on Mac vs Photoshop on PC

Hi,
I am in the process of upgrading my computer from a Windows XP SP2 based P4 to a "something else". Given an option, do i go in for a Mac or a Windows based PC machine? Does Adobe Photoshop run better on a Mac as against on a PC if so then how/what is the difference.
I am a stills photographer and my primary need is a machine which can run smoothly and handle upto a 500MB Tiff files and multitask on batch processes.
Primary softwares to be used will be Photoshop and Lightroom apart from prop. camera softwares.
Please comment.

But assuming that was a typo, Adobe used to offer a crossgrade where you could trade in your license for PC and get one for Mac. You ARE NOT ALLOWED to run a perpetual license on both platforms, even though a license entitles you to install on two systems - they have to be both PCs or both Macs.
You'll have to call Adobe Customer Support to arrange for such a change of the license (assuming they still offer it). But as I mentioned, if you do this you won't be able to run it on your PC any longer.
That said, the Creative Cloud subscription DOES allow you to install one each on each different platform, Mac and PC.

how can i export a 24bit avi file from photoshop for mac? i have a client that specificly needs the files to be avi and in 24bit what are the settings that i need to use to export the video using photoshop on a mac?

To make a 24-bit AVI file in Photoshop, go to File>Export>Render Video. Then, under File Options, choose AVI from the Quicktime Export drop-down menu. Click the Settings button. Click the Settings button in the AVI Settings window. Change Compression to None, and then choose "Millions of Colors" from the Depth drop-down under Compression.
The Millions of Colors option is for 24-bit video (8-bit R+G+B channels, 8x3=24). Millions of Colors+ is for 32-bit video (24-bit video plus an 8-bit alpha channel).

I have a Mac computer and am trying to use a Photoshop CS4 program, but after accessing my desktop files through Adobe Bridge and clicking twice on any of the pictures to get into Photoshop, instead of entering photoshop, I get on the lefthand side an enlarged version of the picture with red, yellow and green buttons on top. Any suggestions on what is wrong, or what can be corrected ?

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop. Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

Photoshop CS6 Mac version not noticing the updated Camera RAW

I am trying to download the newest camera RAW DNG converter 8.6 plug-in on Photoshop CS 6 on a Mac computer. I have photoshop searching in the correct folder under Photoshop>Preferences>Plug-ins..., and yet when I search for the latest version that photoshop is using in, Photoshop>about Plug-ins> Camera Raw, it only displays the original version, not the updated version. this happened with prior Camera RAW versions as well. how do I get photoshop to see the updated plug-in?

Go to Photoshop's Help Menu > Update
Let the Adobe Application Manager download and install the plugin for you.

I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.

How can I access images from IPhoto library on my Mac to Photoshop CS6? I enable jpg with format "Photoshop" and this is what comes up - "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

Photoshop is not a format. It's an application.
What you are looking at are not true JPEGs, just iPhoto's "tease" representations of the hidden images it swallowed, as explained above.

Photoshop CS6 MAC OS how do I locate an open image in the finder?

Every version of Photoshop on MAC platform before CS6 gave me a path to my image in the finder when I right-clicked or Control Clicked on the title bar.
Now I get information I can easily get elsewhere and there's no intuitive way to get my path information.
This is inconsistent with other CS applications as well.
Anybody have any ideas?
Really frustrating is that after saving an image it works, then if I leave the image open, click on another image, then click back to the one I just saved, the option list is different when I right click.

Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.

It is not an Adobe problem. You have a OS permissions problem. You can try to correct this by using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions. It is in the First Aid area of Disk Utility.

2012 Mac Mini photoshop

I have I 2012 Mac mini that I upgraded to mavericks about a month ago. I installed photo shop cs6 and it is slow I add text to a a banner and it says rendering type and it takes like 45 secs. Everytime I move the text it sYs rendering type takes another. 45 secs. Please help I don't want to deal with this anymore

Try trashing your Photoshop Prefs. Here's the path if you don't know it:
/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp (You can access this folder by holding the "Option" key and clicking "Go" from the Finder menu)
Once you trash it, empty your trash and reboot.
Aslo, you mat want to go over your fonts with Suitcase Fusion or FontDoctor to see that there are no "problem fonts".

No Print To File option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)

Q - Where do I find the "Print To File" option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)?
A - Photoshop Lightroom does not have the ability to print to file, but some print drivers can access the ability of the operating system to print to file. See
TechNote for further information.

If you use print to file then you get a file that is meant to be send to a printer and that file has all kind of formatting code for that specific printer.
Opening such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use a text only printer to print the file to, so make sure that such a printer is installed and selected.

Photoshop for Mac 5.1 Open File won't work

1) Operating System: MAC 10.9 Mavericks
2) Photoshop Version: 5.1
3) Problem:
      * FILE>OPEN selection from the dropdown menu in the upper left Task Bar of the Graphical User Interface will not work.
   - Problem Description:
      * Selecting FILE>OPEN presents an error box with the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error."
4) Trouble Shooting:
   - Fully reinstalled photoshop.
   - Fully updated photoshop.
   - Updated the computers version of Java (Java 7 Update 45).
   - Adjusted the security settings for the operating system.
5) Misc Information

Thanks Curt! I tried what was in the forum you sent, all three options actually, and received the same error from Photoshop for all three. Thanks though. I just wish I could fix this so things can be opened using the FILE>OPEN function. I already know you can navigate to the file and use "OPEN WITH" it just isn't convinient.
