Photoshop on Mac

Hi,
I have recently swiched from pc to mac and upgraded to photoshop cs5.  I am having some problems figuring out how it works on mac. I used to be able to double click the photoshop background and that would open a new window so I could open another image.  I could also drag one image into another image (ie. watermark image that I have created).  Now, I know there is still a way to do both of those things but I am unable to figure out what they are.  Is there some tutorial or something that I need to watch to learn photoshop for mac? Also, is there a cheat sheet that would contain the mac shortcuts somewhere?  I have my own photography business and I have orders waiting to be edited so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much!

As far as i know double clicking on the photoshop application frame background in cs5 only works when there are no prior images in the tabbed window mode.
If you use the floating window option or you float all windows then it should work with prior images open.
How are you dragging the images? If your working in the tabbed window mode, then use the move tool and drag from the document area to the tab of the other image, then that image will appear on the screen
and drag down into the image and release the mouse button. Floating windows pretty much work like previous photoshop versions when dragging between images.
The mac help should list your system shortcuts and the photoshop keyboard shortcuts can be seen here:

  • How can i export a 24bit avi file from photoshop for mac?

how can i export a 24bit avi file from photoshop for mac? i have a client that specificly needs the files to be avi and in 24bit what are the settings that i need to use to export the video using photoshop on a mac?

    Hello,
To make a 24-bit AVI file in Photoshop, go to File>Export>Render Video. Then, under File Options, choose AVI from the Quicktime Export drop-down menu. Click the Settings button. Click the Settings button in the AVI Settings window. Change Compression to None, and then choose "Millions of Colors" from the Depth drop-down under Compression.
The Millions of Colors option is for 24-bit video (8-bit R+G+B channels, 8x3=24). Millions of Colors+ is for 32-bit video (24-bit video plus an 8-bit alpha channel).

  • Photoshop CS6 MAC OS how do I locate an open image in the finder?

Every version of Photoshop on MAC platform before CS6 gave me a path to my image in the finder when I right-clicked or Control Clicked on the title bar.
Now I get information I can easily get elsewhere and there's no intuitive way to get my path information.
This is inconsistent with other CS applications as well.
    Anybody have any ideas?
Really frustrating is that after saving an image it works, then if I leave the image open, click on another image, then click back to the one I just saved, the option list is different when I right click.
    See attached.

Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
The "suite" concept is a complete fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types.  The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.

Follow write permission on thread below - same error message
Re: CS6 updates and Mac write permissions
Need Adobe help to solve this. My own searches in Forums and Google all have failed.

It is not an Adobe problem. You have a OS permissions problem. You can try to correct this by using Disk Utility to Repair Permissions. It is in the First Aid area of Disk Utility.

  • No Print To File option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)

Q - Where do I find the "Print To File" option in Photoshop Lightroom (Mac OS and Windows)?
A - Photoshop Lightroom does not have the ability to print to file, but some print drivers can access the ability of the operating system to print to file. See
    TechNote for further information.

If you use print to file then you get a file that is meant to be send to a printer and that file has all kind of formatting code for that specific printer.
Opening such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use a text only printer to print the file to, so make sure that such a printer is installed and selected.

  • Merge to HDR Pro, Photoshop CS5 Mac

    Hello,
I'm using Photoshop CS5 Mac. When I select "File>Automate>Merge to HDR Pro…>" then Browse to "Adobe Photoshop CS5>Samples>Merge to HDR" and select the 4 jpg images, Photoshop merges the images and opens a window that says Merge to HDR (xx%) at the top.  Everything seems fine except the thumbnail images across the bottom are cropped off, their names and check box's aren't visible, and both the Cancel & Ok buttons are missing.
If I grab the window expansion in the lower right corner I can change the aspect of the window but the issues I'm having with the view do not change.  I can hit return and the system will generate the HDR image. Also if I select "About Merge to HDR" when the Merge to HDR window is open nothing happens.
Can someone tell me if there is a setting I need to change in order to get the window to view correctly or is this a coding bug?  I'm using an early intel iMac 17" with and additional Mac 20" monitor attached.  Mac OS 10.6.4, Photoshop 12.0 x32.  The iMac is set to 1440x900 and the Cinema Display is set to 1680x1050.
    Thanks for your time.

Here is the official KnowledgeBase document for the issue. Also, feel free to look at some of the other forum threads covering this (search: HDR OK Cancel)
Feedback on this workaround is appreciated.

  • Resize brush in the liquify filter, photoshop cs6 Mac (13.0.4)

    Hello,
I just update to photoshop cs6 (Mac 13.0.4). Unfortunately, it's not possible anymore to resize brush in the liquify filter by "CTRL-Option-drag" like I did before in former CS6 version.
Has anyone encountered the same problem ?
    Many thanks for your help.

    its not ctrl+option+drag

Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?
    Hi all!
I just today installed CS 3 Web Premium on my G5 (Dual 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.9, all updates installed). The install seems to succeed, and I've activated the suite, and all the other applications launch without a problem. But Photoshop doesn't. It shows the splash screen and gets as far as "Initializing Suites" when it drops off the face of the earth, and I'm prompted to send a crash report to Adobe (done).
I've tried restarting the Mac, re-installing just Photoshop, and even creating a new Admin user and trying it there, but Photoshop still crashes in the same place. So it's apparently nothing in my user account or just a randomly mucked-up install.
I did a search here for "initializing suites" but nothing came up, and even Google found just one other report of a CS3 crash at exactly that point, so a) it's not common, but b) it's nevertheless not just me. Hmm.
Has anybody seen this? I'm funkified...
    Pres

    Ramón is exaggerating.
First: find the uninstaller in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and TRY to run it even though you already deleted the application.
If it won't DO anything, go to Macinosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Preferences and delete the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings folder (and its content) PLUS the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Paths file in same location, PLUS the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file in same location.
    Then try to reinstall again.
If that doesn't work, run the cs3 clean again. Note that it is a script and that it asks you questions that you have to answer to and type in replies to for it to do anything. I fyou donät interact with it it won't do a thing. Note that it might clean out more adobe files than you would wish for.
    There are instructions here
for how to unisntall the public beta of Photoshop CS3 but you might be able to follow those also for a non-beta. There are no instructions for manually removing Photoshop CS3 at the support center as far as I can see (on the other hand it is next to impossible to find anything on the support pages by doing a search.. search for Photoshop CS 3 for Mac and get articles about Illlustrator or CS...).

  • Variations plug-in Photoshop CC (Mac)

I read in your forum that the Variations plug-in Photoshop CC (Mac) is no longer supported.  I am very disappointed.  Is there anyway this plug in can be installed?

    Hi Trevor,
    Thank you for your reply.
The colour balance tool won’t satisfy what I need to do.
I use the variations plug-in a lot for creating vignettes.  Selection, invert, expand, feather THEN I darken in variations.  Very easy and quick. (of course can make adjustments, edit, fade variations).
Altering the exposure or using the burn tool does not give nearly the same effect.
Any other suggestions on darkening/lightening a selection quickly and easily  would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jackie

  • Can i install CS3 Indesign and Photoshop on mac OSX10.8.4?

Can i install CS3 Indesign and Photoshop on mac OSX10.8.4? Or do I have to update and can I purchase updates from Adobe? If I can, how much are they?

    Yes, should be no problem.
According to the box that came with my copy of CS3 the requirements are "PowerPC G4 or G5 or multicore Intel processor, Mac OSX 10.4.8 or above.
I loaded it onto my new Mac running Mountain Lion with no problems at all and it runs perfectly. InDesign used to crash occasionally under Tiger but has never crashed under Mountain Lion.

when i open .jpg picture in photoshop on MAC the the background thumbnail in the layers panel looks like a white box with the brush inside instead of picture thumbnail. how to fix it?

Very easy. That means you have a "no layer thumbnails" option selected.
Go into the Layers Panel menu at the upper right of the Panel, choose Panel Options and you will see Thumbnail sizes to choose from.
    Select one, click OK.

  • Photoshop on mac - file copied to ntfs corrupt ?

    Hi!
We encounter this problem on a school campus :
Students work on photoshop on macs, they work locally on a file (because we know directly on the server is not recommended); when class is over, they copy the file over to their network folder which is NTFS.
Some files get corrupted when they open it up the class after, filters get black or weird stuff happening.
    Ever see this happen ?
    thank you

    Sorry.
We are under PS 13.0.6. Mac osx 10.9.5.
Users log with the AD accounts and home directory are created locally.
They work on a project with files saved on the desktop, at the end of the class they drag the psd file to their home directory on the network, which is on a windows server (NTFS file system). That server is 2012.
