  • Why does Firefox 4 and 5 not ask anymore, it should safe all open tabs before quitting the program as it did in the 3.x versions?

Is there a way to make Firefox 5 ask when quitting the program weather it should safe all open tabs for the next time. In versions 3.x it always asked and reopened the same tabs on next program start.
I could not find the preference to get this very useful feature back or did the programmers take it out of the new versions?

See item #31 (#tabslost) in the following

  • My iTunes 10.5 restarts immediately after I quit the program. How can I fix this?

It is very frustrating. I quit iTunes and it starts back up seconds later. It seems after I quit it 10 or more times, it will finally stop restarting. To my knowledge, this has only been occuring over the past few weeks and I'm pretty certain is was about the time I last updated iTunes. Maybe it's a coincidence and something else is to blame?
After searching this community, I found someone who had a problem like this on his Mac back in 2009 that turned out to be a third party widget he was running. I do not use any third party music related stuff on my PC (not a Mac). The only other music-related software I have is Spotify and Windows Media Player and they do not appear to interact with iTunes. I do not have any iDevice's (like an iPod or iPad) continuously hooked up that might be causing it to restart like this. I'm not wirelessly syncing my iDevices either.
I'm at a loss for what to do. I now have to decide if I really need to use iTunes at a particular moment, because I know I'll have to close the program up to ten times to get it to stay closed. Is this a known bug? Any solutions? I would rather not leave iTunes running in my system tray all day long and tie up resources.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

great Problemes after installing Yosemite (10.10.2 ) with Photoshop CS6....The program crashes --last time 10 times during my work session..wacomtable doesnt work..it is slow...and get error messages about the graphic card....It s a Terror to work with my beloved Photoshop!

The Yosemite upgrade very often damages existing Photoshop installations.  Thank Apple for that.
You need to uninstall and re-install Photoshop, then apply all the Photoshop upgrades from scratch.
But first, give us details about your setup:

Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
A screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,

  • I want to close the iMessage window without quitting the program

    Hi,
I have run into this problem before and I figured it out before but now it is an issue again and I can't change it. When I let a friend borrow my computer, I logged out of iMessage and now after relogging in, I find that my iMessage program quits once I close the window. This makes it quite difficult if I am running a full screen app and it takes me out of it as soon as I get a message. I don't want to have iMessage on "offline" and this box is unchecked when I quit but it still puts me on "offline". How can I remedy the situation by being able to close the window but not quit the program itself? I just want the notifications on the top but not the whole window to open on me during work or class. Please help

    HI,
It should, and I repeat should, close the Window Only if you use the red blob to close the window.
The Messages Window (See Window Menu > Messages CMD + 0) should come back into view using the Window Menu or the keystrokes.
I tend to run Messages with my Buddy list showing.
I have used the red Button to "Hide" all of these.
The red button on the Messages window did not close/Quit the app for me.
Having said that you seem to be describing different behaviour.
I rechecked by logging out all my Buddy lists so that the Messages window would be the only window on view.
It still does not quit the app when I use the Red Button.
The indicator under the icon in the Dock remains in place.
I went one stage further and logged the iMessages Account Off Line as well and still the Red Button did not Quit the app.
IN the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder type in ~/Library/Preferences in the Dialogue box that appears.
Find com.apple.ichat.plist  (this holds the Window locations and actions).
    Drag it to the Trash
    Restart Messages.
    The will recreate the .plist
You may need to change some settings in the Preferences if you are not using defaults (Font, Colour of Balloon etc)

  • MW64,  cs6 bridge when I move or copy files the  context menu does not retain  recent folder destinations after I close the program

W64,  cs6 bridge when I move or copy files the  context menu does not retain  recent folder destinations after I close the program. The context options that show are the ones from original install. The workspace I set up is also gone. I have every explorer box and cleaner checked to save recent. Had to disable nivedia desktop software because of weird display conflict. Have Dell pro support and they cannot fix. Any ideas to help me with this would be appreciated.

Self-solved!  I work in column view in Finder so get there in a Finder window with folders and files appearing.
There really is no problem, just select an ITEM in the COLUMN before right-clicking!
The "old" context menu will appear. If you click in the white space in that column (or anywhere in a Finder window) and then place the cursor over a folder or file WITHOUT selecting it and right-click you will bring up the secondary context menu - Open, Copy, Duplicate, View Options and a greyed out Labels option. No "Move to Trash".

  • Will a program that is not responding ever respond without quitting the program and losing information?

working on a final draft and the program stopped responding, it's been about an hour, will it ever start responding again? Do I have to quit the program and lose everything or is there a way of saving this?

Some programs, such as iWork and Office for Mac, will autosave periodically in case the application stops responding. However if it has been unresponsive for a extended length of time it is unlikely it will start responding again. You will likely have to force it to quit and then re-open it.

  • I want "close window" to quit the program...

I'm setting up a Mac for my daughter, and I'd like to have "close window" (clicking the red x circle) actually quit the program. Some software on my mac does this, but most needs to be told to quit. My specific request concerns PhotoBooth and iChat. She likes both programs, but both cannot run at the same time because the camera is in use. I'm trying to teach her how to quit programs, but she has just turned 7 and she spends half her time on Windows. What can I do to accomplish this?

    How about this idea?
Teach her the basic concept of the Mac OS: look at the menu bar.
In fact, all she really has to do is look at the first words in the upper left corner, and they are even bolded to stand out from the rest of the words on the menu bar. Consider: it's a lot like a book. You go from left to right, top to bottom. In this case, the top left has the most important info: the name of the application. Knowing what application you're in is the first step in knowing what you are doing.
That's all there is to it: look at the menu bar. Even better, the menu bar is the source of most anything you'd ever want to do with an application.
Trust me, it's not her being 7 that is the issue. My parents are much older than 7 and they have similar experiences with not knowing how to quit applications. The main difference with my parents and your daughter is my parents don't even have any experience with MS Windows, not much anyways. So, they have to also learn the concept of applications: opened or closed, what can be done with an application, exchanging data between applications, etc.
Being rather new to computers isn't really based on age, but instead experience. Learning to look at the menu bar is kind of like checking the headline of a newspaper article, or the track number on a CD player, or the times for cable TV programs when viewing the schedule channel. However, relating these other experiences to a computer isn't necessary, I'm just pointing out how the menu bar isn't really a foreign experience even if it may be new to someone.
Try not to limit her just because you don't believe in her ability to eventually learn something new. I overwhelmed my parents with too much info, and so now I"m repeating a lot of what I said before because they weren't in a situation to make use of what I told them. Perhaps like me, you haven't simplified the approach. Try not to explain everything that can be done from the menu bar. Just the basics of the application name and using the Quit option in its menu is fine for now. She can explore the other menus on her own, or you can refer to a menu item when she asks how to do something else.
As to keyboard shortcuts, they are in the menus, so she can learn them later anytime she wants, as long as you properly introduce her to basic concept: look at the menu bar. She'll go far with knowledge of that concept.

  • HT203353 Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program?

Why do Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program? They are all from the Apple extensions pages.  I started manually adding extensions because the Add This bar disappeared when I clicked the extensions off button and I couldn't find it to get it back. I liked Add This because it added an extra bar below the url box with the extensions in color. I tried to add the Pocket extension to Add This with a supposed installer from the web site but it disappeared when I clicked on it and didn't add it. Now when I add extensions from the Apple Safari extensions pages there are just little grey images on buttons beside the url box. I quit Safari at night and the next morning when I start the program the extensions are gone. They were all enabled which appears to be the default. Also want to know if Add This is no longer supported.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?

What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time.
