Photoshop or Illustrator - for creating digital art?

So, I want to create digital arts like the link provided below. I just don’t know if Photoshop or Illustrator is the right tool. Money really isn’t an object when it comes to art, but uh, which one is more designed for creating digital artwork?

Please & thanks, Much love.

Ultimately I would say photoshop is your best bet. You can do the hard lines, shading and blending for this type of thing fairly easily in photoshop compared to illustrator if you know how. Most web comic artist I know who do their work in color usually use photoshop to produce exactly this type of look. For examples look at Katbox.net/laslindas or 2kinds.com

  • Photoshop or Illustrator for A4 printed brochures?

    I prefer Photoshop for designing and I am far more experienced with it meaning I can get design jobs done quickly, but should I learn to love Illustrator (or even InDesign) for my new job designing brochures (usually no larger than A4) for print?? If so, what tutorials should I start watching to get to grips with these programes?

    Use InDesign for brochures; it has superior tyypograpical control, and is made for layout work. Use Illustrator for creating graphics and logos to place in the InDesign doucment. Save Photoshop for photo editing.
    Lynda.com is a good resourse, and it offers a free trail subscription. There are lots of good books available
    InDesign Visual QuickStart Guide by Sandee Cohen is one often recomended here.
    And once you get stated, the InDesign and Illustrator forums here are always a great resource.

  • Photoshop or Illustrator to create bumps like a cupcake would have?

    Which is better to use? Photoshop or Illustrator to make the bumpy lines a "flat" (ex. think of the shadow of a cupcake maybe) cupcake icing at the top would have? Like this except more professional looking (made this in a couple minutes):
    And how would I make it?

    I prefer Photoshop, because a) I am shite with Illustrator, and b) IMO a thing like this is all about shadows and highlights, with pretty much no lines at all.  So my version started with a number of vertical black lines, which I copied and inverted.  That gave me the case flutes, so I Free Transformed using Perspective to taper the two layers.
    The wavy lines are something I could not have done so easily even a week ago, as they were very easily produced using the new Distortion effect in Lazy Nezumi.  That tool is the best $20 add on for Photoshop by miles.  I just laid an arbitrary sine wave across the page, and used FT to match the pitch to the case, and Warp > Curve to make the curve.  The lines were used to mask the case to, and then turned off.
    The pink top started with a flat ellipse filled with pink.  That layer was copied three times and spaced out using the Move > Align tools.  Then FT to make the perspective.
    OK, it did get just a tiny bit tricky here, but only because you need a lot of layers, and need to keep track of them.  I made a selection of all four layers combined, and used that to add a layer mask to all the topping layers.
    Each pink oval has two versions - one sharp, the other blurred, so I could have a soft transition between the layers.
    The hard versions also have drop shadows, which are there to give the shadows between the pink layers.  I had to rasterize all those drop shadows with Create Layer, so I could mask out the over flow, but the afore mention layer mask took care of most of that.
    It would be nice if I could have used Layer styles for the highlights, but that would have been tricky because of the curves, so I ran a straight white line which I FT'd to shape and then blurred.
    The cherry is all layer styles.
    Hundreds & Thousands used brush dynamics. 100% scatter jitter.  100% Hue jitter.  Fully hard brush.  The the smallest drop shadow I could manage to make them look real.
    There is an upside down drop shadow on the case layer, to make the pink top look like it is overflowing the case, and a tiny Bevel & Emboss because it looked better.
    Two shadows beneath the case, one hard and small, and one big and soft.  That is the minimum I'd do for shadows.
    About an hours work, but if I wasn't doing that, I'd be practicing some other way, and if we didn't enjoy the process, we wouldn't be here.

  • Fireworks or Illustrator for creating web components

    I just want to ask members who use Muse which program they use to create Web Components.  For photos I use Photoshop CC, but I am not sure which program to use for web graphics.  I know both programs have tools for creating web graphic, and that Fireworks is more designed to create web graphic, but which one is better Fireworks or Illustrator.
    I am looking to trying to create some logos and maybe icons for my webpage, and as I am new to these programs I would like so opinion from you the members on which ones your use.
    I thankyou in advance for reading this post and any opinions you may have regarding this.

  • PS or Illustrator for creating photo composite?

    I'm trying to build a composite image (a human figure), using elements cut, resized, rotated and pasted from photos.  This will then be dropped into my own freehand illustrated background.  The end product will be printed/published.  I'm using a MS Surface Pro 2 - Windows 8 - which has a small screen (and probably some Windows-based drawbacks), but a useful stylus.  Would you recommend me using PS or Illustrator (or something else)?

    Anything that is image based (raster) you want to use photoshop or photoshop elements as it has the most features for editing the image. Vector art on the other hand should be done in illustrator as it has the most features for editing and creating vector paths.
    Photo composites, images from a scanner or camera, paint programs, etc are all raster based.
    Granted photoshop can do some vector and illustrator can do some raster, but they excel at their own feature set.

  • Photoshop CS Plugin for Canon Digital Rebel XT

    I'm trying to access RAW files on my digital Rebel XT through Photoshop CS. I can't seem to find the right version of plugin. I tried 2.4 but it doesn't look like it supports Digital Rebel XT. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    The DNG converter is a stand-alone program that does not rely on Photoshop or any other program to do its thing. It comes packaged with the Camera Raw plug-in, and is updated whenever Camera Raw is updated. Using the converter is very simple:
    1. Extract the DNG converter from the zip file and place it wherever you want. The desktop is a good choice.
    2. Locate a folder containing raw images. This can be a folder on your hard drive or a card from the camera.
    3. Drag the folder containing the raw images and drop the folder onto the DNG converter icon.
    4. The DNG converter will start. Choose a destination for your DNG files. Then click on the OK button.
    When the DNG converter is finished, just close it and then open Bridge and locate the folder where you told the DNG converter to put your DNG images.

  • In Need of a developer for Photoshop and Illustrator plugins

    I am in need of a developer interested in developing plugins for Photoshop and Illustrator for a specific industry of Textiles and Fashion. Please contact me if you are a developer with experience in plugin development. [email protected]

    Hmmm... I'm using JSF but it's my first project so I don't really know it's powers.
    I instantiated all classes that will eventually populate the combo box (through reflection) and now I'm trying to find one which of the objects did the user select.
    Would it be a problem for you to give me at least a rough scatch of what I should do?
    I tried it like this:
    in my managed bean:
    public HtmlSelectOneMenu getProductsMenu() {
            //instantiate and populate the list of products (prodlist)
            for (Product p : prodlist){
                optionlist.add(new SelectItem(p, p.getName()));
            final UISelectItems items = new UISelectItems();
            items.setValue(optionlist);
            productsMenu.getChildren().add(items);
            return productsMenu;
        }and in my JSP:
    <h:selectOneMenu binding="#{managedBean.productsMenu}" />but then, in the bean, when I try:
    ((Product)productsMenu.getValue())I get a Class cast exception. it says it can't can't cast String to Product...
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you!

  • Brush (cursor) lag making Photoshop unrealistic option for use?

    Hello forum,
    I am making the move from traditional media to using the computer for generating art.  I purchased CS4 because my first machine didn't have 64 bit support.  One of the behaviors in the Photoshop application that had me suspend any further study with it was the nasty brush lag as I moved either my mouse OR my pen (I have a Wacom Cintiq) while 'painting'.
    I've search diligently online for answers, read the forum posts, even called support.  The best they could offer was deleting the application cache data on my Windows XP machine.  I suppose that helped a bit, but it still proved quite laggy.
    Understanding a bit about how computers work, I know processor power, GPU power and memory, and system memory can have big effects on improvement.  So I purchased the Toshiba Qosmio with an i7 quad core processor, 4 GB of fast system RAM, and a great nVidia graphic card with 1GB of memory.  This new machine is Windows 7, so I was delighted I could use the CS4 64 Bit version of Photoshop!
    Surely this machine would tear it up, right?  Nope, same issue.  For example, if I take my pen (or mouse) and test the painting of a stroke diagonally across the screen, I will see anything from a fraction of a second delay to nearly 2 seconds of delay, after which the brush stroke 'appears' along the expected path, depending on how fast I drag my brush and how long the path is.
    So now when I paint my brush strokes have to be short, slow strokes because the behavior of the application is requiring it if I want to see my strokes right away.
    Now I'm not an digital artist, not yet, so I don't have an expectation on whether this is expected behavior or not.  I can't imagine it is, could it?  When I used GIMP for a few months, I don't remember ever seeing this kind of lag on the mouse cursor.
    I want to stay in the world of Photoshop for my digital art study; nearly all of my study materials make use of it for tutorials and examples.  But I have to find out what's going on with this first.  Right?

    The performance you're seeing is not normal, and certainly not acceptable.
    The thing that seems to be constant across your different systems is the Wacom tablet.  I have no tablet myself, as my uses of Photoshop are serviced fine by the mouse, and everything is instantaneous.
    I have been reading posts in this forum on and off about the 64 bit drivers for the Wacom not being solid...  Maybe someone else more knowledgeable in tablet operations can volunteer more info on the status of that.
    Also, I have read that having the "Adobe AIR" panel open can cause lag and slowness.
    Just some things to think about.
    Best of luck.

  • [CS3 JS] Indesign Textframe to Photoshop or Illustrator?

    I have some text in an indesign textframe I need exported to a transparent gif. Indesign has no option for exporting gifs, and jpgs won't work. Ive tryed looking at bridgetalk and doScript but I can't seem to figure out how to send a textframe object to photoshop(ill take illustrator too if thats easier). All I need to do is send the textframe as-is and export it to a transparent gif. Thanks in advance.

  • Photoshop CS5.5 - Unable to select Open With...Photoshop or Illustrator in Windows Explorer

    Hi,
    When I am in Windows Explorer or just in a Folder and I  Right-Click  on say a .jpg file and select Open With...  I am not able  to select  Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator for that matter.  I have  Dreamweaver CS4  and that shows up as an option.  I have gone through  the process of trying to add the  Adobe Photoshop .exe file, but it  still doesn't work.  However, if I open Adobe Bridge, I am able to  select Photoshop or Illustrator to open a file.  Is this  connected to  my install or is there something else going on?  I did  uninstall an  ancient version of Adobe Photoshop 7.0 that I've had for  years, but  that was prior to installing Production Premium CS5.  Could  that have  caused an issue?  I read that uninstalling an old Photoshop  can cause  problems like this.
    If that is the case, how do I fix it.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I am running Production premium CS5 with windows7 64 bit system. On right clicking the file in explorer,I am able to choose my default programme in which the file is to be opened and it is opening accordingly.
    I have Cs4 photoshop in another system with XP professional and here also the above option is available.I wonder how u will not have that feature or how it will not work inspite of having it.___Bosu Babu

  • Why my Photoshop and Illustrator is not responding?

    I have Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium. I purchased it on 2004. It was working perfectly, until recently stopped. I tried to reinstall it, but stil not responding. I used my serial number, but it doesn't recognize it. I use Photoshop and Illustrator for personal work, I don't want to pay for the new one. I want to buy the upgrated, but I'm afraid that I would have the same problem.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator and Photoshop for creating web banners?

    My company for years has worked with print products. We recently started creating web banners. We use Illustrator for the layout for print and Photoshop for the layout of web products. I have artists who dont see the difference between the two. They want to continue to create web banners in Illustrator. Or they want to export the Illustrator file into Photoshop with the layers. But, to export it this way it has to be cmyk. ugghhh. Can somebody please give me valuable reasons on what application is best and why? Thank you very much!

    >But, to export it this way it has to be cmyk.
    Not true.
    Illustrator is "best" for vector. Photoshop is "best" for raster.
    I would let your artists work in whatever program they feel they produce the "best" art. You should be able to quickly and easily develop a workflow around their needs. If you cannot, then you have your answer too.

  • Photoshop Versus Photoshop Elements for Digital Art Creation and Layers

    I'm using Photoshop Elements 10.    If I want to use Photoshop with digital art (paintings mostly) and want to do touch up work and move elements of paintings into multiple layers, what extra features does Photoshop have that would benefit this application?
    And what features are in Photoshop Creative Cloud, and CS6, versus CS5?   I do want to save some money and CS5 might be quite sufficient for my amateur uses.

    There is 16 bit and 8 bit, but probably will not make much difference.
    Only you know what kind of art you are doing.  If Elements works for you I see no need to put out $700 for Photoshop.
    Do some web searches like this one.  http://digital-painting-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

  • Can I use Photoshop Elements to create digital flyers for sales & marketing?

    Looking to create digital flyers to be emailed and used on social media ads.  Is photoshop elements a good tool for this?

    It's certainly possible to do it, but there are many other programs, like almost any desktop publishing program, that will give you more options more easily. PSE is at its best as a photo editor, not a page layout program.
