Photoshop Pen tool problems

When i draw a path with the pan tool in Photoshop and then fill it with a colour, i end up with very pixelated edges. i have tried resetting my preferances and this did not work! Please Help!

alt-click the "Fill path …"-button – is Anti-alias checked?
Or do you use an intemediate Selection? If so check the settings by alt-clicking the "Load path as a selection"-button.

  • Type tool anchor and pen tool problems CS4

I have been working in In-design for my classes and everything is working fine. But recently I needed to do some work in Illustrator but when I opened the program up, some of my tools seems to be slightly bugged or something.
The type tool will not make the anchor where I initially click. It creates the anchor around the center point of the type box. This is really annoying because if you have a specific grid, it will not line up to it. I have never adjusted this I don't think because now I have no clue on how to fix it!
Also, my pen tool seems to be messed up. I first create the starting point, but then when I make the second point and try to drag out the node arms to make a curve, it only has one arm! Thus, the curve never is created, so I can't draw with the pen tool, therefore I fail my classes... haha
I have a big project starting soon and any help with this odd problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much for any potential help

To try to make things more clear:
When I click on the type tool, the line tool, or the rectangle tool (any tool used by clicking on a starting point 'anchor' and dragging it) if I click and drag to the bottom right, it creates a rectangle that around the center point of the bounding box. Its really freaking weird. I've asked all my design friends and they don't know either. BUT! If I click to make the initial anchor, then drag to the upper left it works as the type tool bounding box usually does. Meaning, I can make the box to conform to grid lines, or the like. The rectangle tool does this as well.
Now, the line tool is messed up as well, but a little different. When I select the anchor point and then start to drag (click then drag to the right) the anchor does not stay in place. IT GOES OFF TO THE LEFT. It is so annoying. So If I'm trying to make a line that goes from the top of the page down, the line will go down with my cursor as I drag down, but it will also go up at the same rate. Its real dumb. Any help would be great.
    As for the pen tool:
I'm not a new user to Illustrator. I've been using it for years now and never seen this problem. I showed it to my professor and he had no clue. I have used CS3 and CS5 as well and both operate normally and much different from mine. I can't exactly explain it for it is that weird, but if there is any way I can reset the tool, or put it back to its defaults that would help a lot.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jordan

  • Pen Tool Problem With Adobe Illustrator CS4

Recently, after many years, I finally gave up using AI 9 and started to use AI CS4.
However I'm having a real problem and it's bugging me. When I start to use the pen tool on CS4, it gives me far too much information and interferes with my concentration. First, all these details in green pop up telling me that something is the path or anchor. Second, there is this horrible grey box next to my pen telling me such things as 'D: 62.54 pts'.
Could someone please tell me how to deactivate all these appendages and I can just have mmy basic pen back.
    Thanks

Thank you very much Joe..... Problem solved.
    It was driving me crazy.
    Again, thank you.

  • HELP! Illustrator CS2 pen tool problems

    Hi, All
    new to the forum...great resource...
I'm having a problem with my CS 2. Specifically my tools are acting weird..
The pen tool will not allow me to place points where I want them, or adjust the handles with any finesse. When I go to place a point in a certain spot, and click the mouse, a point appears nearby but not where I want it to. Then, when I try to move it, or adjust its handles, it only will go where it wants to...not where I'm telling it to go.
I can select objects, but cannot place them where I want them!!!! ( I can get close, but no cigar!)
    This is most frustrating!....
    I have re-installed the program.
I have also restarted the computer.
I have not trashed my preferences folder....not sure where that is or if that might be the problem.
Can any of you guys (and gals) help?!?
    many thanks in advance
    JP

    DUH!
Thanks very much JET.....that was exactly it.....though how it got turned on, I dont know....(couldnt have been anything I did!!!) lol

  • CS4 Pen Tool problem

I'm using CS4 on a Mac OS X 10.5.5  and I can't for the life of me figure out why when using the pen tool my a anchor points are coming out the back of the pen... literally.  So when I click and think its going where I tell it to, it comes out the back.  I'm losing my mind.. any ideas ?  Please tell me I'm an idiot and it's a simple fix
    Thanks for any help

Simple enough to work out, every time you reset the screen mode (F key) it has to redraw the entire workspace. So graphics card has ro re-render
The displacement I think, although I'm not sure, may have something to do with rulers (command R), and accomodating the ruler space. CS4 is the first time they wrote all the Open GL features, and they made some decision at the start that certain older versions of Open GL could not be fully supported for some reason. If you upgrade your graphics card you will find that this problem dissappears.

  • Samyak Veera - Why Photoshop Crop Tool Problem?

Yesterday, I had problem with the photoshop crop tool. It usually works fine, but suddenly it has been acting up, whenever I try and crop something it turns the image into a tiny little dot I have NO idea why. Was it a setting problem or other thing that I might have messed with? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks Samyak Veera

One way to fix a tool acting up is to reset it. Right-click or Ctrl-click on its' icon in the Option bar and select Reset Tool.

  • Illustrator Pen Tool problems

My pen tool in Illustrator CS3 is not working properly. I am operating on Windows XP. I have deslected snap to guide and even reinstalled Illustrator.
    Any help for me.

Does it do this all the time, in all documents? Are you using a mouse or digital pen? Sounds like something wrong with the input device. Do you have problems with the other illustrator tools or different programs?

  • Pen tool Problems

When using the pen tool, the handles and anchor points vanish and cannot be altered. HOw can I change this back to being visable? I don't even know what I did! This is in adobe Illustrator CS6.

I don't think that is what she is experiencing, if you read it carefully the achor point handles are not visible. I don't think she is refering to the path disapearing, which would be the case if she pressed the combination of keys Ctrl+H that hides the path.
I'm having pen tool issues (that's why I found this thread) because IA is acting buggy lately, meaning that when creating a path I usually kept the pen tool active and just press the Ctrl key & hold while making adjustment to the handles. But lately the handles disapear, or can't make them reapear, I reselect the path all the achors are selected as if I'm in the V tool and in order to bring back the handles I have to reselect the path with the A tool. I hope Adobe plans to fix this issue...

  • Pen tool problem

Pen tool doesn't draw a path but just does ancor points. It happens in one file, it works properly  in others. Any help?

    Yanina,
What happens if you File>Place (the PDF contents, if any, of) the troublesome file in a new document, then try the Pen Tool?
If that works, you most likely have a corrupt file.
One thing often tried first is to create a new document and File>Place the (PDF contents, if any of the) corrupted one, as already suggested above, to see how much may be rescued that way.
Here are some websites where you can see whether it can rescue the actual file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,

As far as I remember, the first one is for Win and the second one is for Mac, while the third one should be for both.

  • Photoshop Pen Tool:  Welding Points?

I am working with Photoshop CS3 and I have 3 paths that were on different layers until I moved them all to 1 layer.  I can select all of the paths with the Path Selection Tool and "Combine" them into 1 path... but this doesn't do what I need it to.  I need to be able to take 2 nodes (or "anchor points") and weld them together as 1 anchor point.  I noticed that combining the paths (even when placing the nodes right on top of each other) does not turn 2 nodes into 1.  They are still 2 nodes on top of each other.  I went to delete anchor points around these 2 nodes and that is when I noticed they weren't "welded" together.  I know that in Cinema 4D you can "weld" points together and it works perfectly for what I need in C4D but I need this to work in Photoshop.  Is there a way?

    Sure, here you go:
The last three steps in the History panel will look like this:

  • The !**(% pen tool, yet again....

    CS4
(Ultimately, I want to have a shape with curves that I can use to create slices.)
I've drawn two parallel lines with the pen tool. I want to create a shape that has a series of parallel curved lines which have end points that intersect the two parallel lines. (You could imagine maybe a step ladder where the steps are all bowed downward by the same amount.)
Drawing the path segments are no problem. Here's what I can't do...
Get the independent path segments to intersect as one path. How do I do that?
If I draw the parallel curves so that they extend beyond the two parallel sides, I can combine the paths, but there are no anchor points created at the intersections. Therefore, the intersect shape button does not work (I guess that's why.)
Or If I draw the two sides, then add anchors along the parallel lines, then the pen tool will not create a path segment from one new anchor to another new anchor on the opposite side.  Why or how?
Or as a third approach I've tried, I've drawn all the "step" paths. Now, how can I get them to intersect with the two sides?
Let me add one twist. What if the two parallel sides were actually a rectangle. Then of course, this is a closed path already. Then the problem seems to be different for the way the pen tool would work.
    TIA,
    Karl

I'm sitting here thinking about this and not relishing the idea of trying to learn more about Illustrator in order to solve this one problem.
So let me restate my original post in a simpler way.
Is this not possible with the Photoshop pen tool, and if so, how do I do it.
I want to create a square and then I want to divide it into thirds. This should become one path, not a collection of path segments.
    TIA.

  • Photoshop CS5 Pen tool Selection problem?

I've been using photoshop for a while, and have never encountered this problem. I've had CS5 for about a year now and this is the first time it has done this, so hopefully someone can help me!
When I open photoshop, everything works. I make a new layer, go to use the pen tool,  make my shape and then complete it, and the line solidifies showing its a complete shape. I right click, and select the option: Make Selection.
Instead of turning the inside of the shape into the selected part, it selects everything outside of it!
I can't for the life of me figure out how this started happening, as it didn't do it a few days ago. I must have hit a button or something, but its still very annoying. Hopefully someone can help! Restarting both the program and the computer, does not help.

There's a button for that up in the options area, when a Path Tool is active.    It's been a while...  Ah, here:
I'm betting you have the one next to it pressed.
Look at your path icons in the PATHS panel.  If they're white inside, you're creating an enclosed path.  If they're gray inside with a white surround, you're removing a path from the surroundings.

  • Photoshop CS4 Pen Tool Visibility Problem

I recently upgraded to CS4 and started using Photoshop to do some work. Working on some clipping path with the pen tool I've come to notice how incredibly light the pen tool outline is. I cant see where or what im tracing cause I can't tell where the line is unlike the other earlier creative suites where the line was visible.
Anyone have any ideas on making this outline more visible so I can actually see what I am doing. Input would be much appreciated.

I am having the exact same problem with Photoshop CS 4 on my MacBook OSX 10.5.7 4 GB RAM    Intel GMA X3100:  graphics card
When I enable Open GL in PS CS4 preferences, the pen tool line is too light, too thin to use and the anchor points aren't accurate , I have to disable Open GL to get the normal pen function back. Adobe should get us a fix to make Open GL compatable with all graphics cards. All functions in Open GL work fine except the Pen Tool.

  • Problem creating vector mask with Pen Tool

Using Photoshop CS5, Mac OS 10.6.8
I'm trying to create a simple vector mask using the pen tool to create a curved line at the top and bottom of a photo. Here's what I'm doing:
    1. Create a new layer and select it.
    2. Select Pen tool.
    3. Choose "work path" by selecting button at top menu.
    4. I draw my shape with the pen tool.
    5. Now comes the problem... I can not select this shape, or assign it a color. When I create a clipping mask, it does not recognize my path. When I throw away the layer, the shape is still there in outline only. What am I missing here? I'm familiar with doing this in Illustrator, but I don't understand how it works in PSD.
    I need some help, please.
    Thanks.

The main thing i use paths for in photoshop is extracting objects from photos.
Other uses include stroking paths with the paint tools. For example, if you had
a powerline to remove, one could trace the line with the pen tool and then stroke
the path with spot healing brush set to content aware fill.

  • Problem with Pen Tool CS5

    Hi,
I just got Photoshop CS5 and I'm having a bit of trouble with the pen tool - namely, I can't see the path I'm creating.  In CS3 I could clearly see the line between two points but in the new program the line is nearly invisible making it very difficult to create the path.  Is this a setting I can fix?
    thanks

I was having 32 bit while I upgraded from CS3 to  CS4. The only problem with CS4 that time was with pen tool.Though I cannot precisely recall , I can say it t was very lazy and very frustrating and this was resolved totally after shifting to 64 bit.--If urs existing system is 32 bit try with 64 bit
