Photoshop preset?

Hello -
I've been using photoshop for personal note taking and I use a standard paper size (8.5"x11")
My problem is that I often times copy images from other sources and paste them into photoshop, after I do this my "preset" for a new file is "clipboard" - I have to use the dropdown menu to select my preset.
It's an annoying workflow interruption (especially when I quickly tab through the menus) - anyone know how to lock the preset for photoshop?

This forum is for suite specific issues. Please post in the Photoshop forum.

• Package and deploy Photoshop presets with Configurator panels ?

Hi,
is there any functionality available in either Configurator or the Extension Manager that might allow me to package and install some Photoshop presets (brushes, shapes, scripts etc) when I create a ZXP file ?.
I work as an educator, and really like the idea that the Panels can be deployed so easily by novice users. It would be particularly useful if I could also add some content to the presets folder at the same time as installing a Panel.
Thanks

An example on how to configure the mxi file for installing your personal items ( as an example i use burshes) :
1-Create a new folder inside the directory : Adobe Extension Manager/Samples/ and call it Photoshop
2-go to Adobe Extension Manager/Samples/Dreamweaver/
copy the DreamweaverBlank.mxi file, past it in the Photoshop folder you Have created and rename it PhotoshopBlank.mxi
You will keep this file as a template.
3-open the file you renamed with a text editor
make the modifications you see below and save it with a nameyoulike.mxi (without spaces)
<macromedia-extension
name="name you want"
version="number you want"
The description above will appear in extension manager
type="command">

<products>
<product name="Photoshop" version="version" primary="true" />
</products>
instead of dreamweaver write Photoshop, and change also the version
( for example Photoshop CS4 is version 11.0, CS5 is version 12.0)
That will target photoshop as program where to install your brush

write a description of the presets you are installing, this will appear in Extension Manager.

<ui-access>

write a description of where the presets you are delivering will be installed in PS.

</ui-access>

<files>
<file name="Your brushes' name.abr" destination="$presetsfolder/brushes" />
<file name="Your brushes' name2.abr" destination="$presetsfolder/brushes" />
<file name="Your brushes' name3.abr" destination="$presetsfolder/brushes" />
</files>
describe the file that will be packaged and the path destination folder

<configuration-changes>
</configuration-changes>
</macromedia-extension>
4- place your Your brushes' name.abr /Your brushes' name2.abr /Your brushes' name3.abr
near the mxi file you have edited and personalized with the same brushes'name
5- launch Extension Manager CSxx , go to File>Package Extension and go to Adobe Extension Manager/Samples/ Photoshop and choose your nameyoulike.mxi
If you want to target a different folder than Presets where to install your item see attribute in the pdf link
NOTE:
if you want to install your items ( the brushes in this example) toghether the the installation of your panel you have to edit the .mxi panel file and adding only the part that " Describe the files that comprise the extension":
<file name="Your brushes' name.abr" destination="$presetsfolder/brushes" />
May be you can now deploy your panel and items immediately and have time to read more in the pdf when you'll have time

• How can i get the 'like in photoshop' preset?

I was watching an Illustrator 6 tutorial and the instructor was able to change his workspace to resemble photoshop with a 'Like in photoshop' preset. There was also an InDesign and FreeHand preset as well. Is this a feature that needs to be enabled or downloaded.

You're right Kurt. Here's a picture from AICS5

• HT201109 Final Cut Import Photoshop Presets?

Is it possible to import photoshop presets into Final Cut and apply them to clips in Final Cut the program itself?

Presets? You mean filters? No.

• Use of Photoshop Presets in Premiere

Both After Effects and Premiere in my opinion 'suffer' on using such effects as Curves and Levels, relative to the current Photoshop interface for the equivalent function.
In After Effects it seems that Curves is the only effect that one can use Photoshop Curves on a captured still, then use the saved preset in an adjustment layer in After Effects.
Is there anything similar for Premiere?

To clarify...
I'm not refering to using an 'adjustment layer' from Photoshop, but to use a preset created in Photosohp...
I'll give an example.
Take a still from some video media... use the Phtoshop "curves" adjustment, and adjust the image to the desired look. Save the Curves preset. That produces a file somethinng like 'mycurves.acv'.
Then in After Effects, with the original video meida in a composition, use the 'New->AdjustmentLayer', to create an empty AE adjustment layer. Then use the effects panel to select the 'curves' effect, and in that dialog window there is the option to select a preset. Navigate where the Photoshop preset was saved,
and import the preset...
This works...
In Premiere there does not seem to be any method to do this for the equivalent video effect 'curves'.
Further, for After Effects, there doesn't seem to be a similar option for importing Photoshop Levels 'presets', or any other of the effects that could conceivibly be 'similar' that Photoshop has.

• I have a set of photoshop presets, I used to be able to press play and it would automatically run through all the steps now it asks me to ok every single step. What happened ?

I used to be able to press play on the preset and it would run through all the steps automatically. Now it stops at each step and wants me to adjust and ok everything ... I used the presets because I didn't have to do that. Why did it change ?

Where did you get the presets?

• Can't Use Shortcuts with Photoshop Preset Actions

I haven't been able to get my shortcuts to work in CS4 when I set them for individual actions within the actions palette. I do understand how to both set actions and their shortcuts. I also understand how to use the shortcuts. I have successfully done each of the processes in the past, but haven't been able to get them to work since installing them on my new computer.
For example, I have a photo effect I like and use frequently, so I created an action for it. I gave it the shortcut (Command + F1). When I press the Command and F1 buttons, nothing happens. If I change the shortcut to (Shift + F1), when I press the appropriate keys, it simply changes the brightness of my screen, as F1 on my keyboard also decreases the brightness of my screen.
I'd definitely appreciate any ideas!
Thank you!

Mac OS is overriding the function keys. You need to hold down the "fn" key (in the lower left of the keyboard on Macbook Pros) the Function key (in the group of keys between the main keyboard and number keys on an extended Mac keyboard) in addition to the function key in order for it to work.

• Presets in Photoshop CC

I have lots of brushes which are stored in the presets folder in Photoshop CS5, as are my other presets. How and were can I copy these too, to use in CC. I have looked at the tutorials for Libraries but it seems not to cover what I want to do which is have them available in one place to access them on either my MAC pc or tablet?

Hi Shelagh,
For Windows:
You can navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Brushes and copy the brushes and paste them in the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Presets\Brushes.
For Mac:
Navigate to Applications/CS5 Photoshop/Presets/Brushes and copy the brushes and paste them in the folder Applications/Photoshop CC/Presets/Brushes
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

• Lightroom 3 to Photoshop CS5 presets differ

When I move an image from lightroom to Photoshop then save the image the resulting image differs when applying the same preset. I notice a difference under calibration profile; the original (lightroom) file defaults to Adobe Standard while the psd file defaults to embedded. As far as I know there is no way to change this.
I prefer to do all my photoshop manipulation on the original image before setting the final look vs doing my lightroom adjustments then sending off to photoshop.

Presets only store the absolute value of each slider in develop mode.
Same value has a different effect on a Raw or a gamma-encoded file (TIFF, PSD etc.). For example, the default brightness for a raw is 50, whereas it is 0 for a flat file.
Bottom-line: you shouldn't expect the presets made for a raw file to work fine on a TIFF. That's the nature of things.

• Creating stills in photoshop cs2 for 16:9 HDTV

Hi,
I've been reading posts regarding creating stills and still need some clarification. I'm from a print world, so dealing with square pixels vs. non square, hdv, vs dv widescreen is all a bit confusing....
I've been to this link: http://www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop1.html and several others, plus reading the manuals which all have been helpful, but each instance deals with different specs, not necessarily what I've listed below.
First, I am creating the stills for 16:9 viewing on a hidef tv (1080). The FCE HD project is an animated, narrated story with overlays, keyframe motion and some limited effects.
Here are my questions:
1. In creating my original photoshop template: should I use pshop's presets under "new document":
HDV, 1920 x 1080 (with guides) and if yes, what should the aspect ratio be set at? Square or HDV anamorphic? (When I do "HDV anamorphic" I get a squashed look in FCE, with "square" it looks good.)
2. Saving the photoshop file to be imported into FCE, would it be better to save as a jpg, or photoshop or other format? I've been reading differing opinions as to which...
3. Once I create this template (above) can I crop down the still if it doesn't fill the entire photoshop template (I will have some overlays that will not require a full frame in FCE).
4. some images will be enlarged in FCE. Instead of enlarging them in FCE, should I be enlarging them in photoshop? should I be enlarging exponentially, ie doubling the size of my original photoshop template? And if I'm enlarging them less than 150% in FCE, would the image lose it's sharpness at that enlargement?
5. And finally, I've already created some of the stills in photoshop using the photoshop presets for HDV 1920 x 1080, pixel aspect: square and brought them into FCE. Is WYSWYG in the FCE's canvas window what I'll be seeing on my TV monitor (16:9 1080 HDTV). The images are not squashed and look great, but I'm not sure if that's what I'll end up with when I finally view on my tv.
Thanks for any help!

1. If you're working in FCE in a 1920x1080 sequence then that's what you should make in Photoshop, square pixels not HDV.
2. Save as Photoshop, TIFF, or PNG, not JPEG.
3. Yes.
4. Enlarge in Photoshop if they have to be enlarged. You should never double the size of an image. It will quickly start to deteriorate, especially when it's re-compressed. You'll have to live with it not being full size. You should never enlarge an image more than 115%. It will start to soften and make encoding more difficult.
5. No. The Canvas is a lo res representation of the final output. For professional work most editors use an external video monitor to view their material. This can't be done unfortunately in FCE with HD material.

• Help, photoshop cs6 doesn't have textures

Hi, I recently tried to create a puzzle using photoshop cs6 following this tutorial http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/photoshop-puzzle/
problem is that when i reach step 6 i cant find the texture option under filter, here is an image of my photoshop, its in spanish but i already checked and none of the options is texture, also in C/Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop CS6/Presets there should be a folder called "Textures" but i cant find it, help, how do i create a puzzle if i dont have this?

This is what you do. Open Photoshop, select the layer you want to apply the puzzle to and select "Filter" from the main menu, then select "Filter Gallery", then select "Texture" and choose "Texturizer", now click the flyout menu and choose "Load Texture"
Now navigate to your ...Photoshop/Presets/Textures folder and choose "puzzle.psd" and click Open.
Now you can adjust the settings as desired.

• Presets not saved or loaded

I upgraded (download) recently from CS4 to CS5. Now it appears that several of the PS Tools behave strangely. I cannot save Tool Presets, neither load them with Preset Manager. Crop Tool only starts the crop from the centre, as does the Move Tool. (Crop Tool in Bridge still draws the selction from corner to corner.) Am I missing something simple here? I can find the presets in Photoshop Preset Tools folder but I do not seem to get them loaded. Any proposals what I should try?

Hi Jeffrey, and thanks for your answer,
It indeed appears that at least crop and selection tools function like the alt key would be pressed. And pressing alt, shif or keylock keys now make no difference. However, more annoying are the missing presets. And incapability to save them anew! Is this included also in the symptoms of this particular 'incompatibility'? This renders PS almost unusable!
Also, keep my Macs squeeky clean. I do not have any the third arty utilities which you mention. The only (unwanted) third party program is the one which was installed during CS5 installation. I mean the little thing in the top right corner informing me on something coming to my Mac. Could this cause the problem? Why is it introduced by Adobe? I have not updated it although it tells that a newer version is available. Can I remove it, r is it needed by CS5? And where do I find it?
My best regards,
AmiO

• The option to edit in Photoshop from lightroom is grey out.

I'm on a PC, been editing photos in lightroom. Just downloaded some photoshop presets. Edited some photos using the presets. Now when I go to edit photos using the photos/edit in...all options are greyed out. I've restarted my compute, updated both lightroom and photoshop (I have latest versions) talked online to Adobe support person and did all sorts of "stuff" beyond my level of understanding. Still doesn't work. Sometimes the options are back in black and look like its going to work, but then photoshop doesn't open, and then the options turn to greyed out again. Please help!

I may be preaching to the choir but here are some tips on using PSE from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

• Best photoshop setting for DVD Menu

Does anyone know what the best photoshop preset is for the Menu?
Currently I have a 1280x720 file, and it pixilates slightly when added to the SD Menu. I want to suggest a better resolution to the client, and don't want to waste time testing it if someone already has the answer.
Thanks!

ehh sorry to be redundant, found the answer in someone else's thread.
