Photoshop Project PSD Saves as JPEG & Won't Open

Hi All,
I have a project with a number of Layers in it, Photos, Graphics, Transparency Background, Lettering in Curves, etc.  I saved the project as usual yesterday and when I went to open it today, it would not open.  I created on a Win7 machine and later opened on a Mac which I do on a daily basic.  I am using Photoshop CC.  I can not recall the exact error, but it was getting an error mentioning a problem with Jpeg.  I confirmed that my file was in fact now a Jpeg file.  Research indicated that if I opened the file with the Apple Viewer and do a Save As PSD, the file would then be able to open by Photoshop and infact that did work.  However, all my layers, history, etc. are all gone and the file is now flattened which will not work for me.  I would like to know what caused this so I can avoid it next time as this has cost me a great deal of time now.
I thought as a last ditch effort, I would check my master files on my Win7 machine and they are Flattened Jpeg, no history or layers, etc.  Something happened at save time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Noel,
No, All I can figure is that I had taken a Jpeg file and used it as a starting point for my background as I was working through some issues.  I already had several Layers built up and was swapping out my background.  I know for fact that my layers and Workpaths were all in place when I did my final save and closed out for the day.  I was working with a PSD file previously, but I am suspecting that when I did my save, Photoshop CC chose to default the Background Jpeg and saved the file as Jpeg all without prompting me with any warnings or queries.  I rebuilt everything from scratch today to get the project done, but I saved the old files so I can figure out what happened so I can report a bug if possible.  I definitely do not want this to happen to me again.  I know it had nothing to do with moving the files to Mac.  The problem happened on my Win7 machine with Photoshop CC.
Thank You,
Senior

  • Images saved in Photoshop CS6 as PNG or jpeg won't open on Windows computers

I recently saved an image on Photoshop CS6 as a PNG file so I could send it as an attachment to a client (who uses a Windows computer). They told me the file wouldn't open and instead showed as an "Unknown File".
I tried opening the file on my Windows computer, as well as a JPEG version to test out, but both came up as "Unknown Files".
The only way I could transfer the files I saved in Photoshop was to export them as PNG through the 'Preview' application.
Is there a reason why these normal formats won't open properly?

  • Photoshop CC 2014 saves corrupted jpeg files!

    I just cant understand this???
Photoshop CC 2014 saves corrupted jpeg files and some other file formats. PSD and PNG works.
I have try with the latest iMac and the latest Mac Book Pro, both with Mavericks and Yosemite. Im saving to their internal hard drives. I can not open the corrupted photos on any application.

Nobody else has had problems with the files saved by Photoshop.
Are you sure you aren't just saving the wrong file extension on a different file type (i.e.: a PSD file with .jpeg on the end still isn't a JPEG file)?

  • Raw files saved to jpeg via bridge but now some jpegs won't open in CS5

I saved Raw files to jpeg via bridge but now some of the jpegs won't open in CS5, they only open in bridge?  How do I get them to open up in photoshop instead?

I'm not quite sure of your workflow, but here's a couple of things to try:
    1. Make sure the folder to be batch processed contains only JPEGs.
    2. In Bridge, go to Camera Raw Preferences (not Bridge Preferences) and change JPEG and TIFF Handling to Disable JPEG support. This should ensure that all JPEGs open directly in Photoshop.

  • Hi All, I have just applied an update to Photoshop CC and now the product won't open. I get an error

Hi All, I have just applied an update to Photoshop CC and now the product won't open. I get an error message 'Photoshop.exe - Entry Point Not Found'... any suggestions?

It won't open at all...  that's the problem. When I try to execute the program, I get the 'Photoshop.exe - Entry Point Not Found' error message.

  • I edit my photos in Photoshop, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto.  But if I add text to an image in Photoshop can't save as jpeg but as psd. Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

I edit my RAW photos in Photoschop CS3, save as jpeg then import back into iPhoto 11.  If I add text in Photoshop I can't save as jpeg but as psd.  Is there any way I can change to jpeg in iPhoto?

Yes you can. But you need to flatten it as jpeg doesn't support layers.
While the final JPEG can't have layers, it is not necessary to flatten the original Photoshop file to create a JPEG. There are two ways to make a JPEG while not losing the flexibility of preserving layers, and they both flatten on the fly while saving.
I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Go ahead and choose JPEG from the Format pop-up menu down below the file list. JPEG is in there. So what happens to the layers? Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). What is going on here is Photoshop will gladly make a JPEG of your layered file, but it will force the JPEG to be a copy, so as to not overwrite the original layered file. This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.
The second way is, instead of doing Save or Save As, choose File/Save for Web and Devices. This will also give you a JPEG choice, and also create an exported copy. Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

    Only by exporting.
The Export menu in Photoshop CS3 does not have any direct choices for JPEG.

  • QT won't save movies, exported jpegs won't open.

I am running the latest version of QT pro on my PC, windows XP. When editing a movie clip, I can edit to my heart's content, but when I go to save it, QT won't save it. It acts like it saves, but it doesn't.
Also, when I export a movie to picture, the resulting image is useless. Photohop can't open it. Windows Picture and Fax Viewer can't open it...nothing works. In Windows Picure and Fax viewer (for the jpeg), I get the error message, "No review available." In photoshop (for the jpeg), the error message is: "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid jpeg marker is found." When I try to open the pct file in Photoshop, it says," Could not complete your request beause the PICT file is too complex to open on this computer. Photoahop Windows supports raster PICT files only." I have a GIG of ram and the PICT file is only 65 KB. I have tried using various joeg settings, exporting as a PNG file... nothing works. What's up?
I bought Quicktime speciically for these two functions, and neither one of them works. I have Quicktime on a mac at home and it works fine.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Looks like the update has wreaked havoc (who uses that expression nowadays, anyway?) on your PRAM settings. You can try and reset them:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

  • Jpegs won't open in Dreamweaver cs4 or Dreamweaver 8

I was using dreamweaver 8 just fine and then all of a sudden my newly created jpegs won't transfer to dreamweaver.  They won't open no matter what program I create the jpeg in.  The old ones that are saved on my desktop or image folders will still open in Dreamweaver.  I tried downloading cs4 and I have the same problem, except it makes the image file name a link when I try to drop it in on the page.  Also, when I go to insert image, the preview box shows nothing.  I'm on windows vista.
Any help would be great, I called support and it got me no where.

On Vista, Right Click on your desktop's DW shortcut icon and select Run as Administrator.  You should only need to do this once.
Also, make sure your JPEGS are saved for the web as RGB -- not CMYK.

  • Snow Leopard & Photoshop CS4: Scratch Disk Error (app won't open)

Snow Leopard and Photoshop CS4 have at least one incompatibility worth noting thus far. If you have a secondary disc on your system that is setup to be your primary scratch disk in Photoshop's Preferences you might be unable to open your application.
In order to fix that, go to Macintosh HD/Users/YOUR_ACCOUNT/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS4 Settings/ and remove the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Prefs.psp file
    Then Photoshop will open.
NOTE: You must leave your Macintosh HD as your primary scratch disk in Photoshop's preferences until Adobe fixes this issue.

    HI Chris,
We are having significant problems with CS4 crashng and not saving work after it has been completed and saved onto our server. I would rather not re-format my machine. Any ideas?

  • Batch rename of PSD, Save as JPEG, file gets old name

I am using PS CS3 Suite. I have done a batch rename in Bridge CS3 of a folder of PSD files. When I subsequently save one as a JPEG it gets the old file name. Why?

Thanks - 7.0.1 installed and still the same problem.
I have narrowed things down a bit.
It seems if I create a new doc 2400x3000 for example I can convert it to a jpeg no problem.
If I start with 3600x3600 I get the problem. Same steps as the above file with the only difference being the size.
Anyone have a solution for this as it seems like it is size related (note that I have created at this size before and never had this problem).
    Thanks.

  • Audiovox mobile phone jpegs won't open in preview or photoshop

This is probably the wrong place to post this but here goes. We have a audiovox mobile camera phone with a mini SD card that goes into a sandisk usb card reader. The photos from the phone all show up as normal jpegs but neither Preview or Photoshop can open them.
Photoshop Error message: Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found.
Preview error message: Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format the preview doesn't recognize.
Now if the photos are emailed thru Verizon they open fine. We were led to believe that the SD card would let us transfer photos from the phone to the Mac.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you,

  • Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files / won't open jpg files because of "missing marker segment"

I am running Photoshop CS6 on a 2013 iMac with OSX version 10.9.2.
    1) As of today, Photoshop no longer recognizes NEF files. This has never happened before, and the files are coming from the same camera I've used for the past five years.
    2) I receive the following message when I attempt to open a .jpg file "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
This is also the first time this has happened, and happens with EVERY .jpg file I attempt to open.
    3) Both of these errors ONLY happen when I am opening files located on the work server. I hit COMMAND K to connect to serveral work servers -- my work space, shared collaboration folder, and an image archive that was recently moved. If I grab the file that I want and transfer it to my desktop, and open it with Photoshop from there, it works fine.
    I have run all updates.
I'm not sure if this is a Mac issue (with regard to accessing the work servers) or a Photoshop issue.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Photoshop does "play nice" over networks, but seems to catch more OS and server bugs than other applications (mostly because we've added more error detection code over the years after dealing with many OS and server problems).

  • Windows 8.1 Photoshop CS5.1 D800 NEF Files won't open?

I have recently installed windows 8.1 and as a result I had to reinstall Photoshop CS5.1. After doing so I find that Photoshop will not open my Nikon D800 NEF files. I have downloaded and installed the raw file updates from both Windows and Nikon but the files still are not recognized by CS5.1. The files did open with no problems when I was running Windows 7.
    Any suggestions?

What you need to update is the Camera Raw plugin in Photoshop (ACR). Reinstalling Photoshop reverts ACR to the shipping version.
You need the very latest ACR version that will run under Photoshop CS5, which is ACR 6.7. This was also the first ACR version to support the D800.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First of all, are running you have any third party apps that change your system appearance?
If so, try removing them from login items (see below).
Then, create a new account, name it "test" and see how your apps work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
If the problem is present in the test account also, then it is systemwide. In this case try repairing this with the 10.5.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
(Note: If you are running build 9C7010 do not install the Update.)
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
If the problem does not appear in the test account try starting in "Safe Mode" (It will take a bit more time to startup because it runs a directory check first).
If that works go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If there are still problems, go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving /Users/Home)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    Let us know.

  • JPEGS won't open  in Bridge-even after setting JPEG files to "Open With" Bridge

I have two different computers both with PSCS3. On one I have a number of JPEGs on desktop which I can double left click and Bridge opens and shows the file . On the other PC I am not able to open the JPEGS as above...I double left click...andnothing happens?? I have the JPEG files on both computers set to "open with" Bridge. I was on phone for half an hour today with Adobe...with no solution other than to reinstall. I reinstalled and no change. Any thoughts/solutions would be appreciated.

Yes I did try that. An interesting note is that I had the previous version of Bridge (1.O?) on the machine...and I could set the JPEG "open with" to that version and it would open up the earlier version of Bridge and the file. I uninstalled the earlier version of Bridge since I no longer used it.
