Photoshop PSD is importing as Quicktime Picture

I am creating menus in DVDSP 4.1.2 and when I import my PSD files they show up in the Assets window they appear as a "quicktime picture" not a "photoshop still" that will allow me to select my overlays, etc.
Checked the Apple DVDSP boards only came across one discussion that mentioned you must have a bg layer. I do. - So I am stuck.
Any ideas? Thanks

I'm struggling for more than 2 years with this issue, and so far I have not found a good answer. RGB/8 doens't work, a simple background file with a single highlight layer doesn't work.
So far I've found 2 workarounds:
1. Create a new document in Photoshop with the same dimensions. Copy and paste the layers of the non-working document into the new one, save it and import it to DVD Studio. Then it appears as Photoshop Still.
2. Open the non-working psd in Fireworks, save it as psd again. When you open the file in Photoshop you'll notice that the layers are placed in a folder. Get them out, delete the layer and save it. Then it also appears as a Photoshop Still when importing to DVD Studio.
Either way it's bizarre that this problem still occurs after two years of working with DVD Studio Pro.

  • PSD file importing as quicktime picture

I created a layered menu in photoshop, but DVD SP is importing as a quick time picture. Has anyone else run into this and is there a solution?? Its really frustrating.

    Hi Chrystal,
There are a lot of problems with layered menus. A Lot. You are really best of using a standard menu.

  • Layering content box under a framing image (slicing a Photoshop PSD and importing into Dreamweaver)

    Hi,
I am slicing a Photoshop PSD document and importing into Dreamweaver. Is Dreamweaver able to handle Layered content in the same as Photoshop so that the content box can be Layered below a Decorative Frame. As there will be multiple Images I want to be able to have a content box Layered below the frame, rather than have to make a separate page for each photo in the gallery.
Hope this makes sense. Any pointers gratefully received.

    No.
    Yes.
I regularly receive layered PSD files for web work. The layers allow me to just select one element at a time so that I can complete the pages as the designer wanted me to.
One may have "layers" in a website, but the method is wonky at best and will destroy the flow of a good HTML page, causing rendering problems at worst. You need to think of a website as a 2D object, especially when you are starting out.
If you have elements that need to be "on top" of another element, you'll need to create a div that is within a div, with your inside content inside the outer div. And think of a div as a rectangular area that holds stuff, like pictures, text, colors and graphics.
Layering on websites is usually achieved using JavaScript or AP divs. An Absolutely Positioned div will tend to destroy the normal flow of your HTML, which is why it is recommended only in certain very special cases. If you are just starting out, you need to understand how to construct a 2D web page using HTML and CSS first.

  • Can not import PSD file (comes in as Quicktime Picture)

I've created a PSD for a layered menu in DVD Studio... but I can not get it to come into DVD Studio as layered PSD... comes in as QuickTime Picture.
PhotoShop - I am using PhotoShop v8.0 The image size is 720x486, 72 dpi. I have 18 layers, and have Rasterized all of the layers.
DVD Studio Pro - I am using version 4.0.3
I've had this problem, and it seems to be intermitent... some files work fine, others do not. I've been going back to an older version of Studio Pro to import the file, then opening it up in DVD Studio Pro 4. I'd like to find a fix.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Quick update:
I opened a new PSD file, dragged all of the layers into the new PSD file... saved it &... it works! It comes in as a Photoshop Still. Why? As far as I can tell, the 2 PSD files are identical. Any thoughts on settings within PSD to insure I can import files into DVD Studio without issue?

  • .PSD being brought in as "QuickTime Picture"

I exported a layered .PSD file from Photoshop CS and CS2 and when I import them into the assets they are called "QuickTime Picture" under the type column.
I need to have access to the layers, because the .PSD will serve as a menu with overlay layers.
I looked at a previous project and my .PSD files were called "Photoshop Still" in the type column.
Any thoughts on how to bring these in?
    Thanks

I exported a layered .PSD file from Photoshop CS and CS2
Did you actually export as a different formart or did you save as a PSD file? (FWIW unless you are using layered menus, which presents issues on its own, flattened picts for the background layer and the overlay layer work better.)

  • "Edit menu in Photoshop" opens up QuickTime picture viewer

As the subject line suggests, when I right-click a menu and select "Edit menu in Photoshop" from the pulldown, it opens up QuickTime picture viewer. Somehow, Encore or this function in Encore has gotten reassociated with QuickTime. Any idea how to get it going to Photoshop again instead? Or, any idea of a work-around to open up the menu in Photoshop manually? (Where can I access the menu psd files?)

You need to associate psd files with Photoshop.
Go to a psd file and right click on it and open with..
Set it to Always open with this program.

  • Import Bulk Photoshop PSD Files

    Hello Forum members.
I don't think there is a way to do this, but I am working on a project where I have over 1000 photoshop psd files of slides scans. I would like to keep them as photoshop psd files because the portrait style shots, I leave the sides as alpha, and put a animated background behind them.
So, when you import a folder of psd files, or all 1000 by holding shift and selecting them all... premiere prompts you for every file to choose how you want to import it. It would be great if this could be temporarily disabled, or set to a default setting, so I don't have to click okay over a 1000 times. Clicking the spacebar I found is easier than mouse clicking, but there must be a way to batch import or something like that.
    Thanks all...
    -nick

Not that I've found. I frequently import 40-50 PSDs (batch-created lower thirds and such), and rampant "OK" clicking is the name of the game. There might be some way to use an external program like AutoKey to create a macro to do this, but I don't know that for certain.
The other "solution" would be to create a multiple-layered PSD and import it as a sequence. I say "solution" because this isn't really appropriate for the number of layers you're talking about. Even if you created 10 PSDs with 100 layers each, the files would be pretty unwieldy.
Make a feature request for batch import--it's sorely needed...

  • Photoshop Layers not importing

    Hi,
I've had this work in the past, a few months ago, but with a new project and a new file I'm not getting any layers to show through in DVDSP 4.1.2. In the info box, it says that the file is importing as a 'QuickTime Picture' and 'Layers: 0'. In reality it is a Photoshop layered file, 720 x 480. I even tried simplifying it and only have 4 layers in it, but still no go. I'm using CS3.
Any ideas? Old photoshop files import with layers...
Message was edited by: Michael Conti

The issue for me was bit depth. DVD Studio Pro only uses 8 bit images. The PSD's I was creating were 16bit. This caused DVDSP to ignore the layers and only display the composite.
Photoshop has added full 16 bit support in recent years so you might not notice that you are working on a 16-bit image.

  • Using the Mac Preview App to view Photoshop .psd files

When I click on a Photoshop .psd file and open it using Preview, there is always a large gray square somewhere in the picture, usually near the left border. This occurs whether the layers in the file have been flattened or not so it doesn't represent another layer. When I view the file in Photoshop, it is just fine. So it appears to be an issue with how Preview views the file. Any suggestions?

Thanks both Andreas and Bob. By the way Bob, have you tried importing the example file that I referred to? As stated earlier this problem does not show up with every PSD file (in my testing I can see that about 50% of my (flat) files shows up as gray (all the files are perfectly OK in Photoshop (CS2) and in Bridge however).

  • The photoshop library operation failed because quicktime is not installed on this computer

I'm getting this when importing a Photoshop Timeline Animation into After Effects.
"The photoshop library operation failed because quicktime is not installed on this computer"
I have all updates to date.
    Any clues?

After Effects CC (12.x) does not import animation/video layers in PSD files. You should render and export your animation from Photoshop as a movie file and import that into After Effects.

  • I can't get photoshop CS6 to import from my HP scanjet 5590?

I can't get photoshop CS6 to import from my HP scanjet 5590? I have tried plug ins, and reinstally scanner software but it only recognizes my main scanner/printer!

Hello & Welcome to the forums,
but it only recognizes my main scanner/printer!
Does this mean your HP Scanjet 5590 is a 2nd scanner you have on your computer?
Are you able to scan with 5590 on a different application? Is it only Photoshop that is giving you this problem?
Please let us know details about your operating system and its version too.
Do tell us how you're trying to 'import' pictures from your 5590 scanner.
