Photoshop quit before saving to Lightroom...now I'm only getting an error message

I've been using Lightroom for 3 years. I usually have no problem editing between Lightroom and Photoshop, but yesterday a file crashed in Photoshop, as it was saving back to Lightroom. Now I cannot open files to edit in Photoshop. The error says "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/2014 Photography Lightroom Back-Up/2014-08-22/DSC_1698.NEF for editing. It will not be opened." I have to get this sorted ASAP, anybody got any ideas?

You need to delete your preview cache and have Lightroom rebuild it. Cache location can be found here.

I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but get the same error message.

Which version of OS X do you have? It's not clear from your post whether "installed an upgrade" means you just installed PSE 13 as an upgrade or you installed an update to PSE 13, like ACR 9 or 13.1. Please clarify.

Even though it's your computer but your user account might not have sufficient privileges to install the software.
Please try the following :
> Enable the hidden Admin Account on Windows 7 ( Ref : http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-wi ndows-vista/ )
Reboot and try installing in the new enabled Admin user account and check.

Had the same problem and the same message -- was suddenly unable to access icloud apps on my pc, also using Windows 7 and Internet Explorer. After several days of pulling my hair out, decided to try a different browser and was able to get in by using Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Hope this helps.

Running Mavericks, I was trying to get messages to run ICQ and apparently I changed a setting that now causes me to get an error message and shuts messages down.

I am running Mavericks.
I was trying to get "Messages" to play nice with ICQ. it was sending HTML format to the receiver on the other end.
I saw online how to change the item typed to show up as plain text on the for the recipient.
Unwisely, I didn't follow ALL the instructions (where it told me to make a copy on my desktop "in case" and I changed one of the settings incorrectly.
Now when I try to start Messages up, it opens briefly, then says it encountered an error and needs to shut down.
I can remove Messages, but before I do, I can't seem to find a place to re-download it.
Any suggestions on the best way of handling this?

Once you get to Lion (OS X 10.7) and higher the only way is to Restore the whole OS as several Apple App are included this way and are not available separately.
It should be just the .plists that are involved.
The com.apple.imagent.plist holds the account info as it provides a "listening" function on all logins before your start up the app.
I would delete this one as well.
If that does not work repeat the process and delete com.apple.ichat.plist itself.

Lightroom won't open - I get an error message....is open in another application.....It isn't and I can't progress from there. It allows me to open a different catalogue such as April 2015 but that has only 2 photo's in it ? Any suggestions ?

Can anyone help ?

1. Open Windows Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
2. Open the folder that contains your Lightroom catalog.
3. In that folder, look for a file with the .lock extension. If your catalog is named Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat then the file will be named Lightroom 5 catalog.lock.
4. If you find such a file, highlight the file and delete it. You do that by pressing the delete key.
5. Close Windows Explorer or Finder.
6. Start Lightroom as you normally would.
In case you don't know where your catalog is located, if you are using Windows it will be located in Pictures\Lightroom. I'm not sure what the path is for the Mac.

Photoshop trial issues every time I open a picture I get an error message

it says photshop has encountered a a problem and needs to close. And then it wont shut off it just acts like it is trying to close and I cant close it or use it. Please help.

Nope, none of the updates are built into the trial versions. Adobe doesn't do that for some reason.
Look in the Windows Application Event Log for the information on the error (e.g., Faulting Module).
There's a possibility you may need a display driver update... What video card do you have? Visit the web site of the manufacturer and download/install the latest driver for your hardware and OS.

Ever since I downloaded Firefox 4 (and now Firefox 5), I get two error messages when the auto-update tries to run.

The two messages are as follows: "Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. Please make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox from: http://www.firefox.com " and the second message, "Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help." I have made sure that I have the newest version of Firefox, downloaded from cnet.com. Can anyone explain this problem?

Try to trash the current Firefox application and do a new installation.

Thank you for responding. Nothing actually worked! After reading the posts online, I called Apple. They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades. The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did! But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.
