Photoshop raw file issue

Hi
I have photoshop cs5 which I have installed on a new laptop, I use a canon 550d camera and take shots in Raw, I get an error message when trying to open a raw file, I understand that I need a plug in or update that will make my canon 550d raw files compatible, so I have tried downloading 6.1 and other updates/plug ins but I don't really understand what is happening but it is not working, do I need a unzip program? if so I have to spend £30 buying that to be able to install an update?
please help as I have lots of photos to sort out in RAw.
Thank you

  • Photoshop Raw File Import Error

I'm using CS6 and Photoshop will not open Raw Files. I've updated to the most recent Raw plugin as well as photoshop. I'm running it on a Mac with Yosemite. Is there a solution to importing raw files to photoshop with this set-up.

    Thanks Gene.
If I  use file> open it reads: "Photoshop cannot open this file. If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help > Updates... If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information"
I do have Bridge CS6. It is version 5.0.0.399
    Photoshop is version 13.0.
ACR is 7.0 which sounds like an issue. however when I go to update it says it's already updated.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How can I open multiple files as Photoshop Raw files at the same time for Photoshop CS6 extended on a PC?

I am trying to open 20-25 files at the same time as Photoshop Raw [*.RAW] files.
The only way I can open multiple files is if i leave the file type as All Formats. When I change it to  Photoshop Raw [*.RAW], the files a deselected.

Use bridge. Select all the files then press ctrl-r or cmd-r to load the selected files into camera raw.
If you try this in Photoshop use File>Open As then for file type choose camera raw. (I have not tested open as for opening multiple files)

  • CS2 Raw File issues with Nikon D90

Just saw the post  on Nikon D90 non compatibility with CS2 raw file format. Questions are where to go from here. Running Windows XP with a AMD Athlon (tm) XP3000+ 2.16 ghz 448 mb ram. Is Cs4 or  Cs5 compatible with my system. I used a D70 for years and had no problems. What is going on here? I can probably add ram to get the 1000 mb of ram but what about the rest? Is there another alternative other than a new system?

I'm not familiar with the processors in the AMD lineup, but it's possible yours will not run Photoshop CS5 until such time as Adobe releases an update.

  • Canon 6D Raw file issues. Help?

6D camera Raw files will not open with CS6. I know it needs the 7.3 Camera Raw to support these files while the CS6 only has the 7.0 camera raw. Help me! Is there any way of updating the Camera Raw? Or do I need to spend another 500$ on something that I just bought last year. This camera came out last year, why doesn't this program support these raw files.

Sure. ACR updates are free. Help --> Check for Updates is your friend.

  • Raw files issue

I am attempting to import raw files from a Cannon xti. I have a mac book pro and some files transfer properly and otehrs do not. i can see the file after import, but it says file not supported when I try to open it. The file remains gray in the project window. When I firts got the camera a few weeks ago, the files loaded fine. I did the 1.5 upgrade and this started happening.
    Can anyone help?
    Doug

The raw file of your camera are not supported yet by Aperture.
The next OS and Aperture update should bring support to it.
The first file you import from your camera were jpg which is supported.

  • Aperture / Leopard / Nikon RAW file issues

I run a small business with multiple macs, some with leopard, some without. I've found that on the Machine with leopard, the RAW image files from my Nikon Camera com out corrupted, both in Preview, Quick Look, and Aperture. When I tried them on My machine running Tiger, they are fine, but after I try them in leopard, find them corrupted, and bring them back to Tiger, they're still corrupted. Any ideas on what's causing this, I hear Time Machine and Aperture don't get along, but I've tried it both with and without it, and the same issues come up. HELP!!

Consider yourself fortunate if you've had no issues but even Apple knows there are many users experiencing various corruption issues. I myself have been in contact with support personnel at Apple regarding issues with jpegs. I have over 1500 of 2100 jpegs that not only do not display in Aperture but any attempt to do so will crash the application immediately. Not only that, but attempting to view them in the Finder or Preview will do the same. I've had no issues with NEF but I've also temporarily stopped usage of Aperture and have reverted to my copy of Lightroom which displays none of these issues in discussion here but does have other issues which are well documented on the Lightroom forum.
Just for the record, I did a clean install of Leopard and then installed Aperture 1.5. I then upgraded to 1.5.6 before restoring my backup library. The crashing started immediately and it wasn't until several email exchanges with a very responsive Apple engineer that we determined an issue with the jpegs.

  • Can't Open Photoshop-saved RAW file in Photoshop...

I've just gotten back from my school's library, where I was using one of the scanners to scan my negatives. I scanned the files directly into photoshop CS3. In retrospect, I absolutely should have saved in tiff, which has worked before, but this time I saved the files in raw. This is Photoshop Raw, not Camera Raw. I assumed that I could open these files back on my home computer (Photoshop CS4), but apparently I was wrong. If I try to open any of the raw files, I get a dialogue box called "Photoshop Raw Options", and if I hit "OK" I'm told something about missing color profiles, then I'm given an image of gray noise. If I change any of the settings in the dialogue box (files were saved at 16-bit grayscale with Mac byte order), I am told that "Specified image is larger than file," and I can't open the image.
What's going on? Why can't I open in Photoshop files that I just saved in Photoshop? Have my past few hours just been a total waste?

Yep, pretty much unless you know the exact size and can correctly fill out the required dialogs required to open a Photoshop "raw" file. The "raw" format is not, as you've found out related at ALL to Camera Raw. It's really a holder over format from the early years used back when there weren't some file formats available on some computer systems...and yes, you SHOULD have used TIFF.

  • I can open RAW files from my camera in photoshop cs5, but they dont save properly after editing

I can open RAW files from my camera in photoshop, but then after I have edited, i save as .raw, and open up the newly saved file and it just comes up as a grey messed up picture.  What am I doing wrong?

Yes, it is preferable to do as much editing on the raw files as you can including global and local tone & color correction in Camera Raw...but there is a limit to the work you can do and sometimes you must go ahead and render the raw file into Photoshop for additional work. Then you'll be needing layers and other functionality that can't be done on a raw file. At that point you'll need to save as a TIFF or PSD. If you work in 16 bit and a large enough color space, the TIFF or PSDs will still be capable of the highest quality...as others have indicated, the Photoshop .raw file format ain't for photography per se.

  • Merge RAW files to panorama in photoshop

Hello all, I usually edit my raw files in lightroom and then 'merge to panorama in photoshop'. My question is: Can I save this big panorama merged file as a photoshop raw file and continue editing in lightroom as a normal RAW file? Thanks

Yes, I agree it would be nice. But it will remain a wish.
    Here's what I do:
I don't edit at all in Lr before the panorama stitching in Photoshop, except that  I make the horizontals and/or verticals (for instance the horizon in a sea shot) straight. That makes it easier for Photoshop to do the stitching.
I don't do much further editing in Photoshop because I do Photoshop-editing on layers and that creates huge files. Rather, I do all editing after the panorama-stitching in Lr.

  • Why don't RAW files from iPhoto open in RAW CS5?

I have dragged RAW files into Photoshop from iPhoto and they appear the same as the .jegs.  Also, in the dropdown camera info panel, there is no info other than RAW and the file name:(  I have a Nikon D5000 camera and am using OSX 10.6.6  All updates that could find have been done.  I am not techy savvy so I hope that there is an easy solution.  Thanks.

  • Recently upgraded to a Canon Mark 3 and now having issues with my RAW files in Bridge and Photoshop. I am operating with CS4. Photoshop produces an error " Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

Recently upgraded to a Canon Mark 3 and now having issues with my RAW files in Bridge and Photoshop. I have operating with CS4. Photoshop produces and error " Could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file"

Assuming you mean 5D Mark III, Photoshop CS4 cannot directly open raw files from your camera.
Generally speaking, Adobe stopped updating older versions to be able to read raw files from newer cameras when they released a new major version of Photoshop. Photoshop CS4 is no longer receiving Camera Raw updates.
You can double check this yourself:
First you need to determine whether Adobe has released support for your new camera in your version of Photoshop. To do that, look at these two pages. You'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
If you find your camera is supported by your version of Photoshop, you need to download the latest update for Camera Raw. There's more information on how to do that here:
    Keeping Photoshop Up-To-Date
If your version of Photoshop cannot support your camera, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
The DNG converter DOES work, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.

  • Having issues opening raw files from Canon 5D Mark iii in Photoshop CS5

I cannot open RAW files from a Canon 5D Mark III in Photoshop CS5. I get an error saying "
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
Documentation seems to be no help.
    Any ideas?

You can download the updates manually and try to install them Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh
