Photoshop Rendering

So, I'm pretty new to trying to add colour/texture to some of my Illustrator work, I have been giving it a go using basic brushes and using different opacitys to add colour and trying to give it some feeling. Below is what I've done so far, can anyone suggest any improvements or tips/tricks on how to make it feel more "real"? Ive seen some renderings done in photoshop that look almost photo realistic, does anyone have any advice on how to achieve this effect?
This is what I have so far:
I know it needs shadows but I wasn't sure how to add them or the best way, I have seen people using gaussion blur on a black line and layering it behind the actual image, is this the best way to achieve a shadow effect?By the way I only have a mouse at the minute and I have recently invested in a wacom bamboo tablet, will the tablet help me in producing photo realistic renders?
Thank you for any advice anyone can give, its greatly appreciated.

Looking good - you're a quick learner.
Try one additional thing:  Activate the Dodge tool in the Tools panel, then set it for Midtones, check Protect Tones, and set it for about a 10% exposure level.  Then select a large, fuzzy brush and brush lightly over the parts you want to appear closer to you and which reflect a little of the light - i.e., the part of the leg showing just in the center.  The Burn tool does just the opposite - it darkens things.  These tools can help you define an ankle protrusion, for example.  I find subtle Burn and Dodge operations a quick way to add a little very subtle depth to an image.
Dodge is also quite often a good technique for lightening faces in photos.

  • Photoshop renders differently

    Hello,
when I send an image from Lightroom 4.3 to Photoshop CS6 (CMD+E), it renders slightly differently.
I notice Photoshop (CR) seems to not apply the lens correction profile I apply in Lightroom. Sometimes it seems the luminosity of the image too is slightly off, but updating the image preview in Lightroom seems to fix this (but not the lens profile issue). I thought it was a monitor color profile problem, but what has it to do with the lens profile correction? To me, it just seems Photoshop renders the dng differently than Lightroom.
I'm on a Mac and everything is updated to the latest release (both Adobe and OSX), so I don't think there should be a compatibility problem between software versions..
    Any idea?

I looked further into the matter and found what's the problem. In Lightroom I usually use "auto" to fix the lens. It identifies the lens without any problem and applies the profile.
I tried to open the image in Photoshop as a smart object and then opened it in Camera Raw from within Photoshop. In the lens correction panel, the "auto" mark is cheked, but on the bottom of the panel I have a warning message saying it couldn't find an appropriate profile. In the moment I select "Nikon" (I use a D700) in the camera manufacturer dropdown menu, it instantly recognizes the lens and applies the profile.
This is a workaround to fix the issue, but I don't understand why Lightroom correctly recognizes the camera and lens, while Camera Raw fails to recognize the camera (but as soon as I select just the brand it recognizes everything). Also, the difference in the luminosity value I sometimes noticed, could be dued to the correction of the vignetting.
Later today I'll try to see if the same issue happens with other lenses too.

  • Problems with Photoshop rendering text in 3D

Can anybody out there help me with this. It seems each time I use the 3D function in PS CC, and directly after extrusion my text appears rather deformed, mostly curved characters are flattened somewhat. I tried upping the dpi but I still end up with the same result...attached is an aexample of what I mean. Very frustrating.@

If counting backwards works, then use that. Some object manipulations may change the internal state of ID's object counters, and you'll get unreliable results trying to work from start to end.
An afterthought: did you have anchored objects in your original text? Text inside these also count as a separate story, but it's removed when you empty out its parent story -- thus, possibly, throwing off the original counts.

  • Help, where are the render preferences in Adobe Photoshop CS6

Okay, I admitt, .... I am an idiot that is new to Adobe Photoshop.
But help the new girl out, here.... Please...
Where are the render preferences in Adobe Photoshop Extended CS6.
I searched Adobe Help in Dutch already but they point me towards options that doesn't excist.
Maybe they were there in Adobe CS5 and I am reading an older version of the documentation...
But in CS6 I can only find the option Render and no Render Preferences...
    Thanks !!

Adobe changed the way video is rendered in CS6. Adobe Media Encoder in now used in CS6 only a subset of the Adobe's full Adobe Media Encoder is included in CS6 is a dll. I do not think you can add new Rendering Presets however you can change some setting when you use the supplied Reddening Presets.  Perhaps if you have the Adobe suite and have the full Adobe Media Encoder you can create some presets and add them to Photoshop Rendering presets.  I seem some compliants about CS6 Quicktime rendering presets lack the power of CS5.  The Rendering presets seem to be stored in sub folders in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Video\Adobe Media Encoder" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Video\Adobe Media Encoder"

  • OpenGL problems in photoshop cs5 64bit

I have a nvidia GTX 550Ti graphics card with all available driver updates. Some features of openGL work without problem. The main problem I have is preview of animation with ray trace and export of finished animation. Niether will work. The preview will just hang unless you repeatly click the mouse button, at which point the animation will proceed appx. 1 frame per click. Video export will not complete. Immideatly after clicking export a status bar appears which is already half full. Processor (amd phenom II X6 1055) will run at 80 percent. Graphics card access is at zero. This will run forever unless I stop it, with no results. If I change rendering settings to bounding box or wireframe everything works fine, but I need better output than a wireframe. It seems photoshop recognizes my card just fine as openGL is enabled by default. (tested by erasing user presets on restart) I had the same issue when I was in school and somehow found a workaround for it, but since have reinstalled and lost my settings. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Any help/advice would be greatly appriected!!
    Craig

Well, it opens up fine, and when I click the play button it just plays through.  The pin starts backlit, zooms out, then comes in close and the light comes around front.
I started an "Export - Video" and set the ray tracing and other settings as shown here.  A progress bar opens and starts at the beginning.  It seems to busy my cores very little - on average about 5%, but it DOES make progress, albeit glacially slowly.  At this rate I'd predict completion in 20 minutes or so.  I see the Time Remaining indicator in the document status area go across again and again, indicating rendering of each frame I think.
This is with Photohsop CS6 13.0.1 on Windows 7 x64 with ATI Radeon HD 7850.
I may have misspoken earlier about Photoshop rendering only in the CPU.  That's true for STILL images - I don't know about this video rendering.  It's probably true there too, but I have heard that the Adobe video software (Premiere Pro) can use GPU acceleration for video rendering, and I just don't know how much they may have married that into Photoshop.

  • ACR 7.1 Beta & Photoshop CS6 Lens Profiles

If I open a Nikon RAW (NEF) file in ACR 7.1 Beta it correctly finds my Camera and Lens Combination Nikon D3 with the Nikon 24-70m f2,8 with the Adobe Lens Profile. However, when I leave ACR and the image is open in Photoshop, go to Filter, Lens Correction it does not automatically detect the correct camera and lens combination.
It shows the Camera Make as NIKON CORPORATION, but the Camera Model and Lens Model are not detected and I am asked to choose. In the Lens Profiles I see two choices, one for a Nikon D3x with the correct lens, the other for a generic Nikon Camera with a Sigma 24-70 F2.8.
I would have thought the detection process would have been the same?
    MK

I was just curious and hunting around ACR 7.1 and Photoshop trying our the features. Also I have found that LR4 RC2 has follows ACR 7.1 as far as lens profiles go working with RAW images, so there is some consistency.
Wonder what the difference is between a RAW rendered image in ACR versus a Photoshop rendered image. Given, I could be wrong here, that Lens Correction is based on the optics of the lens, focal length, and the characteristics of the sensor, so would they not be the same in ACR and Photoshop?
I think I need to go check out a lens profiler
    Cheers

There is one reason that I may go back into the Lens Correction Filter and that might be to fine tune some of the persective tools. With a large panorama much easier to see what needs to be done rather than view seperate images, and i have done that in the past. did not come to me until after I had hit the Send Button

  • Font rendering in CS5

I have had some trouble with the CS5 version of Photoshop.
    the problem is this:
as you can see, there is some kind of "shadow" around the text. I have included the option panels for you to see
that the document is 72dpi, RGB / 8bit, the font is Arial 12pt and NON ANTIALIASED.
this is the magnified version of it:
The above are screen shots. If i export the text it renders normaly as it should.
This lead me to believe that photoshop renders the font even though it shouldnt.
    Any suggestions?

You have isolated the problem to the OpenGL feature.  That says that the Photoshop - ATI 10.6 combination on your system isn't working right.  I can't tell you who's at fault; you'll need to take it up with both I think.
Have you tried enabling it but selecting "Basic" in the Advanced config?
FYI, following the "if it works don't fix it" philosophy, I stopped updating at ATI 10.5.

  • Pantone  336 colours in Photoshop...

    Hi,
I'm trying to turn a CMYK image into a duotone image. Specifically Black and Pantone 2291C.
Pantone 2291 is from the +336 books and for some reason I can't find it when I search the colour libraries in Photoshop.
I haven't had this problem in Illustrator or InDesign.
    Would appreciate some help!
    Cheers

It could be one of two things.
    1. It could be that Photoshop renders things on your screen using different protocols. To check this, use the Information window to read the numerical color values as you hover over an area. If the numbers are the same in both programs, then it's just the way the program is rendering your image and they're actually the same color (they just look different on your screen).
    2. You could be using a different color profile for each program. This will come up as different numbers for the same area.

  • FAQ: What cameras are supported in ACR 7.0 with Photoshop CS6?

See this link for full details on camera support in Camera Raw versions:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/03/raw-support-in-lightroom-and-camera-raw.ht ml
    Snip taken from link above:
You’ll also note that ACR7, available with Photoshop CS6 beta, is lagging the most in updated camera support.  This is based on when we lock down or “bake” the code for each release.   Even though ACR7 was only released last week it was “baked” before Lightroom 4.0 and Camera Raw 6.7.  Similarly, Lightroom 4.0 was finalized before Camera Raw 6.7.  We’ll get Lightroom and Camera Raw in sync soon but in the interim, here’s the latest incremental support list for each product, relative to Camera Raw 6.6 and Lightroom 3.6:
    Photoshop CS6 beta with ACR7
    Canon PowerShot S100V
    Fuji FinePix X-S1
    NOTE:
ACR7.1 will have the superset of all currently supported cameras in ACR6.7 and LR4.1 plus a few extras.

  • Does Photoshop CS4 support ATY RadeonX1600 plus Apple Cinema 32" display (18 pin connector)

SEE SCREEN SHOT OF ALL THREE RENDERINGS IN ORDER:  PHOTOSHOP CS4, LIGHTROOM2, BRIDGE.
Have been getting very harsh/hot renderings of images in PS CS4.  Bridge, Lightroom 2 and even Nikon's Capture NX2 are all quite similar in rendering image.  Have used DNG created from Raw Nikon NEF.  Rendering in PS CS4 significantly different on Cinema display, even though the RGB levels read the same in Brdige and Photoshop.  The Cinema display is the older 32" that has the larger DVI link and is a matte screen as opposed to the new one released by Apple that has the mini-dvi link and is a glossy screen.  The rendering in ACR 5.5 that is brought up by Bridge looks fine, then when opening it in Photoshop it becomes very yellow/red and blows up the highlights - approximately like adding +50 to vibrance.
Driver problem???????????  All software is current, Mac OS/X 10.5.8, PS 11.0.1, ACR 5.5.0.97
Found a thread about driver problems but not this problem nor this configuration was confirmed.  Have turned off GL as per that thread anyway.

I am adding this:  when looking at the screen shot on my Cinema Display, the Photoshop rendering does not show the harsh yellows/reds that I see when looking directly at the image, Prophoto RGB 16bpc.  The screen shot of the three renderings of the same image look far more similar than in real life here.  I see the screen shot is only 8 bpc, and have opened it with its own color profile (PNG) and also converting it to the working profile of Prophoto RGB.

  • Photoshop lighting effects puts horizontal line through image

Apply filter > Lighting effects to an image (300 ppi RGB) and when photoshop renders the lighting, there is a horizontal line through the image. It is not a screen or video issue, it is in the image and has to be retouched out like corrupt image.
not a transparency issue, tried different file formats, flattened image first, etc.
    WHY?
Had this happen before, but now in Cloud V6 is really aggrevating. People have been posting about this for at least 3 versions with no answers.

Moved from the Creative Cloud to the Photoshop forum. They will be able to help you here.

  • Lagging when rolling over objects, text boxes, images in indesign CS5

I just installed CS5 suite onto my new upgraded machine. In InDesign, whenever I roll the cursor over and object, image, text box, there is about a 1-2 second lag in the cursor, almost like my system freezes as Indesign differentiates between the bounding boxes. My system is brand new and exceeds all system requiremnts for running CS5. Photoshop renders 3D lightning fast and I have encountered no other issues in any of the other Apps so far. Indesing itself runs fine until there are multiple frames on a page at which point just moving the pointer from one side of the screen to the other results in choppin movements and lag. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Set your Live Screen Drawing preference to delayed. Does that help?

  • File appearence not the same in PS CS4, LR2 and Camera RAW

I've just noticed that files as displayed in Lightroom 2 or in Camera RAW, when opened in Photoshop CS4 have a different appearence. In Photoshop the file appears much flatter and with considerably less saturation and dynamic range. When you compare the files beside each other in RAW and in Lightroom, they look the same. I have tried exporting the files to Photoshop from Lightroom using the "open with Lightroom Edits" and Edit a Copy and Edit the original, but the results are the same. After editing a photo in Photoshop and saving it back into Lightroom, the photo appears very saturated in the Lightroom or in Camera RAW. I don't know how long this has been this way, but now that I hace noticed it, it is driving me nuts.
    Thanks for your help
    Steve

Christopher thank you so much for responding and you have pinpointed the problem. The problem was the color settings. Color settings were set to sRGB and when I changed it to ProPhoto RGB Photoshop rendered file as it appears in the files in Lightroom and Camera RAW. I shoot in ProPhotoRGB and that seems to be why the images looked so flat when imported using sRGB.
Thanks for taking the time to help

  • Smart Objects - File size issues

    Hey All,
The Question: Not sure if this question has been answered elsewhere. But when using a nested smart object (meaning a smart object within a smart object) Photoshop CS5 doesn't display the correct file size (at bottom left) or seem to account for the nested smart object file size.  Is there a "setting" I’m missing to accurately display what the true file size is?
The Problem: Using multiple nested smart objects that I have reduced the size of my image to be 260x200 for web export. Photoshop CS5 won't let me save a file that appears to be only 3mbs claiming it's over 2 gig's. See image below.
Really not sure what to do about this, the company I work for makes lots of changes so using smart objects is necessary for my work flow. But also seems to be slowing me down trying to figure out issues like this and is problematic when it comes to saving all the work I have been doing.
    Thanks for the help

One thing you might have missed is that Photoshop is not a file editor its a document editor.   The sizes Photoshop is displaying are related to how much ram it using for the documents data. How efficient ram is being used etc. File sizes vary all over the place sizes depend on the number of pixels in an image format support layers no layers compression?, transparency.   There is no way Photoshop could even guess at any file sizes.
An other is all smart object layer are not created the same and their sizes my be far different the you may think.
Smart object layers have a basic format. There is an embedded object, there is a composite pixel rendering for embedded object that is used for the layer pixels and there is a transform associated for the layer rendered pixels.
Anything Photoshop supports can be an embedded object.  These objects are copies of the original object.  For example a copy of a RAW file where ACR settings are stored in the file copy metadata. An embedded object might be a copy of a PSD file that has thousands of layers. in any case Photoshop renders pixels for the embedded objects composite view and uses these rendered pixels as the smart object layers pixels.  These pixels can not be changed within the document.
However the embed object can be opened and worked on and changed. If the change is committed Photoshop will update the embedded object and render the updated object composit view and replace the layers pixels.
Smart Object Layer Pixels can only be acted on in the document not changed with paint etc. For example the Transform associated with the smart object layer sizes and positions the layer rendering over the canvas. The layer actual size may be larger then, smaller then the canvas size and have a different aspect ratio then the canvas. Example if you place in an image that is larger then the document canvas size one of Adobe Photoshop's Preferences is set by default have Place resize large images to fit within current the documents canvas size. The transform associated with that placed layer would cause the rendering of the layers pixels to fit with in the canvas.
Though an embedded  object may contain thousands of layers the actual object may be much smaller then you think for PSD files are compressed object may be compressed.  Also while the embedded object  may contain vector layers when a smart object layer is transformed the layer is transformed using interpolation like a raster layer for all that is being transformed is the pixels Photoshop rendered for the embedded smart object. The only way to work on the embedded smart object layers it to open the smart object and work on the object itself.j

  • Colors in print preview not matching colors in soft proofing

    Hi There,
Just wanted to print a new photo and realized that the colors in print preview do not match the colors in soft proofing. In both cases I selected the same icc profile and rendering method. The print colors matched the colors in print preview. I never had a problem so far. All new prints will be checked with soft proofing and adjusted when necessary. I never paid attention to the color rendition in print preview and all prints perfectly matched the colors from the soft proofing. I was surprised when my print came out of the printer and the colors weren't matching the soft proofing colors, but that of the print preview.
I don't understand why Photoshop renders the colors differently in the first place. Please see attached screenshot for the difference in the blue/cyan colors.
I would appreciate if anybody could point me in the right direction in what is causing this difference. I don't care if the print view colors will match the print, but I do care when soft proofing is not working.
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    D.

    Here are some addtional details:
    PS 13.1.2
    Mac OS X 10.8.4
    12 GB Ram
    60 GB free disk space
I printed the same photo from two other computers (MacBook and iMac) with different PS versions (CS4 and CS5). The prints turned out identical to the first one which matches the print preview color rendition on my main computer (MacPro) running CS6. Strangely the colors in print preview of CS5 on the iMac renders the colors identical to the soft proofing colors.
