Photoshop reopens after quitting

On my iMac (Yosemite 10.10.1) I have an occasional issue with Photoshop CC. After closing and quitting, a few seconds later Photoshop reopens. I have to go through the same process of quitting, waiting for it to open and quitting several times before finally it stays closed.
I'm quitting in the normal way, either right-clicking on the dock and clicking quit, or going to the Photoshop menu and clicking quit - not force quitting.
Any ideas?

  • Safari Reopening After Quitting

I've been having this problem ever since I installed Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard on my 13" MacBook: Whenever I quit Safari, it automatically reopens and hides itself for no apparent reason. I thought this was just an issue with an add-on I had on Safari, but I just got a brand new MacBook Pro and have nothing new in Safari, and it's doing the exact same thing. It's nothing too big, but it certainly is annoying.
My boyfriend also seems to be having the same problem, and I can seem to find the source.

Has anyone found a workable solution? Safari and firefox have the same behavior. It is very annoying

  • Windows reopen after quitting safari

After I quit Safari (even after the computer shuts down and restarts) any previous Safari windows or tabs re-open in the background along with the new one. I can't simply get a new page with the homepage. This is really annoying. Is there a way to stop this? It never did this before the lion upgrade.

  • Itunes reopens after quit

Hello, brand new on the forum/discussions. It is really annoying whenever I quit iTunes, it automatically opens itself again. I then wait, quit it again and then goes away. Not really demanding answers, but wanted to let the main guys know about this and to see if anyone had any suggestions.
    Thanks
    -bpsmith

The "main guys" aren't likely to see it here. I can tell you that this issue is usually caused by a third-party app or widget that is attempting to talk to iTunes. iWow is one of the usual suspects. Connected speakers can also cause it.

  • Photoshop CS2, after normal quitting, "Unexpectedly Quit" window appears

I use Photoshop CS2 on a PPC G4 Dual MDD with 1GB RAM and MacOSX 10.4.11. For the past 2 months, every time I normally quit Photoshop CS2, with the app disappearing from the dock and it seems to have finished, in about 6 seconds, a window pops up saying "The application Photoshop has unexpectedly quit" with three buttons: restart, report or close. I have clicked on the "Report" button and sent the report to Apple several times, with what I was doing at the time, but have not received any messages from Apple. I don't know why this window pops up now, all of a sudden, as it never occurred before. Now, I usually just click on the "Close" button in that window and go about my business.
Can anyone explain what might be causing this window to appear, after normally quitting Photoshop, and how to fix it to stop it from happening? And, should I copy the report, generated and sent to Apple, and send it on to Adobe for their look-see? Who would I send it to?
    Thank you

  • Why does iTunes 11 keep reopening after I quit?

This is moving from the bizarre to the absurd.  I recently updated to iTunes 11 on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.7.5), and now iTunes keeps reopening after I quit.  I have checked the support forum for similar issues from previous versions.  I do not have "open iTunes when device is connected" checked, I have quit using the menu, force closed the application, even killed the iTunes process through the activity monitor to no avail.  The only way I can successfully kill the process is to shut down my MacBook Pro entirely and restart.
    Has anyone else encountered this?

I want to elaborate on my orginal post.  This is a big pain in the ***, but I have found a solution that has worked and has survied though a number of tests.  Do you have Blackberry Desktop installed on your Mac?  If you do, your probably going to have a process running called RimAlbumArtDaemon.  This is some BS software by RIM that has a history of running Mac really hot (using unnessary process power for extended amounts of time).  Get rid of it by following the instructions here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3589839?start=0&tstart=0
    Delete that entire blackberry file.
This has seemes to solve the problem for me.  Let me know if this works for you.

  • After quitting itunes reopens... what the..

err.. yes indeed.. its true, after quitting itunes it reopens itself a few seconds later.. oh it was fine til i upgraded it to 7.7 this morning.. please advise

Try deleting the iTunes preferences file. Quit iTunes. Go to User Name>Library>Preferences. Find the file com.apple.iTunes.plist and trash it. Open iTunes again and it will look like you're opening it for the first time. Also if you use the iTunes widget or any widget that has to do with iTunes, close it.

  • Premiere Pro crashes after quit - Mac OSX Lion

    Greetings,
    Symptoms:
I'm experiencing a consistent crash behavior after quiting Premiere Pro (ver 5.5.1 and 5.5.2). The complexity of the project doesn't seem to matter and once it crashes, i get the prompt indicating the app encountered a serious error and will try to save the project. I then get the usual crash report prompt to send to apple followed by the adobe crash report a few minutes later (must be why i see "dynamiclinkmanager" in top for a bit after PP crashes).
If I reopen PP, I'm prompted with a dialog box asking if I want the last project opened. If I say yes, I'm back to a crash before any assets load (unexpected serious error and the app will need to close) followed by the crash reports again for apple and adobe. Basically, i get one chance to make a project and it goes bad when closing the application.
I'm using an install from a DVD, but had also tried the web version. I was able to create a couple projects with the web version (trial) and then when I got the DVD, i believe i used that for updating/authenticating, etc - maybe that's where things went south (anyone else observe a similar pattern?).  I didn't think too much of mixing the DVD content with the web install, so the steps around how i mixed those two sources is somewhat fuzzy.
For reference, i'm pasting the crash report inline. To reproduce, I just had to open PP, click no when asked to open the last project that unexpectedly quit, and then just hit quit and got the crash. I didn't do anything other than accept the project defaults in order to test out hitting command-Q.
If I can provide futher info to help with a repro, please let me know.
Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance,
    Todd

Regarding en/disabling the mercury engine, is there another place to toggle that? I didn't think i had any other choice at this time with my card option (until i get a nvidia cuda card). FWIW, When creating a new project, the options in the drop down menu for "Video Rendering and Playback" is greyed out with "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" as the selected option.
I was also thinking of putting a fresh Lion install on another disk (bah, would prefer to not have to do this since I have other stuff all nice and set up on current OS install), but at this point I'm fine to take the hit and level the playing field w/ a fresh OS, image that for downstream testing if a fresh install is needed again, and then start installing things one at a time until something goes wrong.
It seems (i hope)  this error could be caused by something pretty basic as it is a complete showstopper. Unless somehow what I'm doing is super unique, there would be other folks out there dead in the water, to, but making waves.

  • Photoshop failed to quit and is not responding

I've had a nasty problem for the past few days that seems to be getting gradually worse. ie it now happens within a few minutes of openning Photoshop, whereas before it was happenning after an hour or two of working on an image....
At some point while working on a moderately complex .psd (roughly 70mb with some 15 layers) Photoshop hangs and Force Quit Applications tells me that Photoshop is not responding. I can't identify anything particular that i'm doing that triggers it.... i use a fairly wide variety of tools and filters and the hang doesn't seem to be triggered by anything specific.
I force Photoshop to quit, and it disappears from the Force Quit Application list. However, after quitting, I cannot open .psd or .jpg files from Bridge or from Finder. Raw files open up ok from Bridge into Camera Raw. And, when I try to shut down or restart my machine i get: " Logout has timed out - The application Photoshop failed to quit and is not responding." so the only way to restart is to force a shut down with the power button. After restarting the Mac Photoshop works ok again for a a while and then the problem happens again.
I have repaired my disk permissions and run Diskwarrior over both my Mac HD ad the external Firewire drive where all my images live - which didn't identify anything out or the ordinary.
Any thoughts on what else I can do to eliminate this problem would be v gratefully received
    I am working on a Dual-Core Intel MacPro with 9GB memory, running OS 10.4.11 and Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 and Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9

Neil, just for reference the Cron script problem was fixed in 10.4.2 and should be run on boot if they haven't already. This doesn't mean that running cocktail occasionally to make sure doesn't have value or to run the maintance scripts early doesn't help (it wont hurt).
    Nick
The 3 Gb limitation is a limitation of 32bit operating systems and software. Photoshop can't address (use) more than 3Gb regardless of how much you have free or installed. OSX 10.4 is kind of 64bit but not completly, it has the ability to remap memory so EACH program can use a max of 3Gb. so in your case with 5ish Gb used PS is using 3Gb, Safari is using a bit and the OS is prob using most of the rest.
Looking at what you posted the only two figures your really interested in is the Used and Free (which add up to approx 9Gb). The fact that the used number doesn't change from the several files open and the liquify filter opening indicates to me that it has already grabbed as much memory as it can( it's using 3Gb of the 5.52, the rest is the OS etc).
Simply put PS IS running out of memory. You can help this by putting the memory allocation in the PS preferences higher (the OS will use other areas of memory so it wont cause a problem) and make sure the scratch disk is set to a drive with plenty of space. But keep in mind the Liquify filter is VERY memory intensive so you may not be able to use it with lots of files open.

I have been using Elements 12 without a problem for 9 months.  Now when I try to open the program, I get an error message  "Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 quit unexpectedly" and it will not open at all.  What can I do to open the program?

Thank you for responding.  Nothing actually worked!  After reading the posts online, I called Apple.  They indicated they have seen problems with some software after their upgrades.  The technician was able to fix the problem on my computer remotely, but I have no clue what he did!  But, it was definitely related to their recent upgrade to my computer.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 updater quits

I recently bought the new iMac and I installed my Adobe CS3 onto it. Everything seems to be working fine but the Photoshop updater would quit upon opening. So I can't get the needed updates to view my RAW files. Also, when I tried to go and download the updates myself, Photoshop shows me this; "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file." Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I am using iMac OS X 10.9

The updater for cs3 doesn't work anymore on either windows or mac, probably because adobe disabled it on their side.
When you download the 4.6 camera raw update, it's a manual install.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4039
Meaning you need to mount the DMG file and then drag the Camera Raw.plugin that is inside the DMG to the right folder
after removing the old camera raw plugin to the trash bin.
The directions are on the page linked to above.

For other filters, did you delete all your existing preferences on upgrading to 10.10? Hey rmillsnyc where is there a thread on this topic ? I searched the tiger update threads and didn't find one, easily. You are not being particularly helpful, ie maybe give a link to the topic etc. You see recently Apple changed the layout of the discussion forum pages and made a limit of 15 topics per page which makes the site , generally more difficult to browse, and much less negative from Apples point of view: Much less problems per page !!. This is not a photoshop problem it is a Tiger problem as usual, therefore it should be right here. I browsed 9 pages and didn't find it, so it seems I'll just have to wait until 10.5.2 Great !!*%£@£@!@££
