Photoshop restore opened files workspace suggestion
Hi,
I have a suggestion for a feature that would take a snapshot of all your opened files and placement in photoshop and restore them the next time you restart photoshop. The idea would be if you need to log out everyday or reboot machine, you don't need to spend time reopening all the files you work with previously. Now your first reaction would be 'What for? You have the recently opened files feature...' Well the recently opened files feature is limited to 30 and also files are sometimes named randomly with letters and numbers in the context of digital photography. I have no idea which file number I was using the last time I worked with and I have several thousands to hunt through. You can of course organize collections and flagged them but it is still time consuming to resource all the files.
In a professional environment workplace, we are often required to log out and log back in on a daily basis. If you have a big project ongoing with 20 source material opened, it would be great to take a snapshot of that and restore your photoshop desktop the next time you fire up.
Pushing this frame of mind, I think a navigator like mode (similar to the compositing software Nuke) would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Lino
This is a good place to solicit comments from other users, and while occasionally some Adobe people duck in here, there's actually an even better place for making suggestions:
http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
Your suggestion sounds like a nice, logical extension of the Workspace maintenance capability Photoshop has now.
Personally, I'd like to see your suggestion implemented, and even tied into a "recover last good workspace" capability, to facilitate recovery from an unexpected crash or failure.

Hi, hoping someone can help please. I've been using photoshop cs5 for a while now under Windows 8 64bit. I take photos using a Canon camera. In the last few days I have found that I now can no longer open files - Photoshop opens but the file does not. The only change I can see is that I have opened some pictures taken on a Nikon Camera recently. Has anyone got any suggestions please - I have updated the graphics driver, tried to install some latest ps5 updates but these don't work, Tried deleting settings file and tried uninstalling / reinstalling CS4.
You did not mention which file format is affected.
Please read these and proceed accordingly:

Photoshop CS3 opening files painfully slow on a Mac
We're having an issue here at work where Photoshop CS3 is very slow in opening files of any size on our Macs.
We're running 10.5.8 on 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon MacPros with 3 of them having 8 gigs of ram and my machine running 12 gigs.
I've tried doing a bunch of research on the issue, but all I can find about it has to do with the issue on a Windows machine involving the network/default printers. I've tried deleting both our network printers and adding them again after a restart with no luck. We've even tried deleting the Photoshop preference file along with the Adobe Mediabrowser preference.
If anybody has any thoughts on how to fix this (aside from upgrading to a newer CS), they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!Ok, I think I found a little work around that so far, for the past hour or so is working good. Files are opening up a lot faster.
What I did was create a virtual default printer following instructions I found Adobe's site...
1. Open System Preferences, and select Print & Fax.
2. Choose the + sign to add a new printer.
3. Choose IP.
4. In the Protocol pop-up menu, choose Line Printer Daemon - LPD.
5. In the Address field, type in localhost.
6. After Generic PostScript printer displays in the Print Using field, click Add.
7. Close out of the Print & Fax preference or Quit System Preferences.
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/set-default-printer-print-center.html
Once I did all that, I had to go into the Preferences and delete the Photoshop and Mediabrowser preferenses and then restart the computer. Hopefully this fix sticks, but if not, I'm sure I'll back to see if anybody has any other ideas.
Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it.

Well, it's been a few days and it looks like I may have spoke too soon on the above fix. Photoshop seems to be slowly reverting back to the problem. -
Problems launching Bridge from Photoshop and opening files as smart objects in Photoshop from Lightr
I am running Photoshop CC (up to date as of today) and Lightroom 5.2. I am hitting 2 major problems. In Photoshop if I select File/Browse in Bridge I get the following message
"Could not complete the Browse in Bridge command because Photoshop was unable to find the JavaScript plug-in".
However if I simply launch Bridge as an application it works ok (now I have reset the default application for all the appropriate file extentions to Photoshop CC rather than Photoshop in Bridge preferences) and opens the file in Camera Raw 8.2 in Photoshop when a Raw file is double clicked.
The second problem is associated with opening raw files in Lightroom 5.2, editing and then trying to "photo/edit in/Open as smart object in Photoshop" . In this case Photoshop opens with a blank screen and nothing happens Eventually about a minute later this message appears in Lightroom 5.2
"The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched."
Rather strange message as the first thing that happened was that Photoshop CC opened!!
Same thing happens if try "photo/Edit in/Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC" except that having shut down photoshop I see a message from Lightroom 5.2 saying
Lightoom was unable to prepare the selected file at ..... for editing. It will not be opened.
When I click the OK button on this message low and behold the tif version of the RAW file opens in Photoshop. ready for futher editing with all the Lightroom edits applied.
Can anyone help me in sorting out this problem please
Operating system is Windows 8 64 bit and I am running the 64 bit Adobe applications.Solved the problems by uninstalling Bridge and Photoshop then going into Creative Cloud App and re-installing both.

Photoshop CS5 will not open files. Occasionally if i try to open a .psd file that has already been created by double clicking on it in its folder, it will open but I will hardly be able to edit it. For example, the brush tool does not work, crop tool, resizing image etc. I had this problem 2 weeks ago. I uninstalled adobe creative suite, ran the adobe cloud cleanup tool and then reinstalled the programs and everything worked again. However after a week everything suddenly went back to the way it was again. Very frustrating! I might as well mention that at the same time as Photoshop "crashed" I also became unable to drag objects in Illustrator and InDesign.
I am not very good on the technical side so I just copied all my performance info below. I am working from a laptop with a mouse plugged into the usb port. Is there any other details you need to know?
Thank you in advance for your help!

The gaming graphics score is based on the primary graphics adapter. If this system has linked or multiple graphics adapters, some software applications may see additional performance benefits.With 2 gigs of RAM you are just too out of date for modern software. Try bumping RAM up to max of 4 gigs.
Ideally you should be running the 64 bit OS with 8 gigs of RAM. -
Photoshop/Bridge Opening Files
I currently have an issue with Photoshop and Bridge (and lightroom) opening any files, specifically from my SD card. What happens is when I go to bridge and I click on the folder to open, it just says 'building criteria' and never goes any further. If I got to photoshop to open them that way I get to the point of the file and then I get 'pinwheeled'. Everything else on my Mac works fine, the SD card and it's content can be viewed outside of adobe programs. Any recommendations for this issue?
Solved the problems by uninstalling Bridge and Photoshop then going into Creative Cloud App and re-installing both.

Photoshop javascript: Open files in all subfolders
Hi guys
I'm very new to javascript, and general Photoshop scripting. My script is coming on well, but I struggle working with files and folders. It's a lack of basic javascript knowledge, which I need to work on. Right now, I'm trying to expand the image open part of my script, so that it opens images regardless of whether they are in a subfolder or not.
You can see my input folder (C:/Input). I want to be able to throw files in there, some in folders, some not. Out of interest, my outputs will be combined into one output folder... that bit is fine.
var inFolder = new Folder("C:/Input")
if(inFolder != null){
var fileList = inFolder.getFiles(/\.(jpg|tif|psd|bmp|gif|png|)$/i);
for(var a = 0 ;a < fileList.length; a++)
var docRef = open(fileList[a]);
//do things here
Is there an easy way of expanding this to include files in subfolders? All advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
DavidHello,
Inspired by the topic created a script that converts files .eps to .jpg. However, I have a problem. The script correctly reads the folders and subfolders and contained in their files and saves the converted files to the input folder.
I do not know how to save the converted file ".jpg" to the folder from which it was read source file.
Please suggestions on how to solve this problem.
My script looks like this:
function saveJPEG( doc, saveFile, qty ) {
var saveOptions = new JPEGSaveOptions( );
saveOptions.embedColorProfile = true;
saveOptions.formatOptions = FormatOptions.STANDARDBASELINE;
saveOptions.matte = MatteType.NONE;
saveOptions.quality = qty;
doc.saveAs( saveFile, saveOptions, true );
function scanSubFolders(tFolder, mask) { // folder object, RegExp or string
var sFolders = new Array();
var allFiles = new Array();
sFolders[0] = tFolder;
for (var j = 0; j < sFolders.length; j++){ // loop through folders
var procFiles = sFolders[j].getFiles();
for (var i=0;i<procFiles.length;i++){ // loop through this folder contents
if (procFiles[i] instanceof File ){
if(mask==undefined) allFiles.push(procFiles[i]);// if no search mask collect all files
if (procFiles[i].fullName.search(mask) != -1) allFiles.push(procFiles[i]); // otherwise only those that match mask
}else if (procFiles[i] instanceof Folder){
sFolders.push(procFiles[i]);// store the subfolder
scanSubFolders(procFiles[i], mask);// search the subfolder
return [allFiles,sFolders];
function fitImage( xUnitValue, yUnitValue ){
var fitImage = stringIDToTypeID( "3caa3434-cb67-11d1-bc43-0060b0a13dc4" );
var size = new ActionDescriptor();

size.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( "Hght" ), charIDToTypeID( "#Pxl" ), yUnitValue.as( 'px' ) );
executeAction( fitImage, size, DialogModes.NO );
var openOptions = new EPSOpenOptions();
openOptions.antiAlias = true;
openOptions.constrainProportions = true;
openOptions.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
openOptions.resolution = 600
var x = new UnitValue( 1280, 'px' );
var y = new UnitValue( 1024, 'px' );
var inputFolder = Folder.selectDialog (prompt);
var outputFolder = inputFolder;
var fileandfolderAr = scanSubFolders(inputFolder,/\.(eps|)$/i);
var fileList = fileandfolderAr[0];
for( var i =0; i < fileList.length; i++ ) {
var doc = open( fileList[ i ], openOptions ); var docName = decodeURI ( doc.name );
docName = docName.match( /(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/ ) ? docName = docName.match( /(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/ ) : docName = [ docName, docName, undefined ];
var saveName = docName[ 0 ]; // strip the extension
var saveFile = new File ( outputFolder + '/' + saveName + '.jpg' );
doc.resizeImage( undefined, undefined, 72, ResampleMethod.NONE );

Just Upgraded to 10.4.1, Photoshop not Opening Files
Help!
I am on a MacBookPro and I just updated my MacOS X software to 10.4.1 and now Photoshop CS2 won't open any files. I get the beachball and the fan starts running on the machine. I files are large to small, jpegs to tiff to psds.
My CS2 ImageReady can open the files, but when I switch to Photoshop it just hangs.
I tried the commandappleshift to get rid of my preferences, but that didn't help. Does anyone have any tips?Ok for some reason it decided to start working again. I reinstalled the updates from Adobe..then opened a new file, saved it out, opened it again. And it opened so then I tried opening a jpeg and it opened.
It seems to be working find now..good LORD, ***. -
Photoshop CS3 - Opening File - Toolbar Freezes
Hi,
I have Photoshop CS3 on a Mac OS X. When I open Photoshop, click File > Open, then click on the image I want to open, Photoshop opens the image but everything is greyed out. I can click on the side tool bars and they are no longer greyed out but the top bar freezes. The "file" tab stays highlighted. I can close the image, but I can not close the program. The entire bar across the top is frozen. I can edit the photo but since the tool bar is frozen I can not save the file.If I navigate to a different program, such as Firefox, the frozen Photoshop tool bar stays at the top of the screen. I can not restart or shut down my computer becase the tool bar is covered up by the Photoshop tool bar.
Also I have the installion CD. When I try to reinstall it ask me to "Relocate". It will not let me click on the installion CD. I can not get pasted this step or I would just reinstall CS3.
Is there anything I can do about this problem?
Thanks for you help!

Photoshop CC opens files at 100% but at 50% window size. Bug?
Hi all,
Since I updated to CC I've had a bug that drives me a little nuts. Because I have a Retina MacBook Pro connected to an Apple Thunderbolt display, Photoshop seems to get confused about the size of the window to open. It thinks it should be sized to fit on the Retina screen (which I use as secondary), but at 100% on the non-retina screen (the primary display). The end result is that every time I open a document the window is only showing the top quarter of the document I'm opening. I always have to hit command plus, command minus to get it displaying right.
Is this a known bug? Is there a fix planned?
Cheers,
ArloOnce again... a but that Adobe ignores and it's been a year since discovery. Thanks to Creative Cloud, Adobe can speed bug fixes to it's user base fast response and incremental releases... no... Thanks to Creative Cloud, I can no longer open my PSD files if I decide to stop renting it from Adobe. Microsoft, meet Adobe. Adobe, meet Microsoft. You two were made for each other.
I'll probably get a response (as I did to my last bug report), that it's Apple's bug - and Adobe has reported it and awaits a fix... 1 year later. Not buying it. -
Batch Processing in Photoshop CS5 opens files in Camera Raw
Regarding batch processing straight from Photoshop CS5 (not in Bridge) I am unable to get the .dng files to open up without requiring that I click on 'open image' in Camera Raw. I am trying to run a simple two step sharpen plus save and close action on a batch of 700+ .dng files. There is no open command in the action. Thanks.
You probably need to check Suppress File Open Options Dialogs.

Out of curiosity, what do you expect people to offer you after an overly terse description like that?
Exactly how are you saving the files and how are you trying to open them (understanding that there isn't just one way)?
Have you tried opening your files on another system to isolate whether it's a problem with saving or with opening?
Does it happen with every file or is it intermittent? If the latter, does it happen with big and small files?
Do any of the diagnostic or error logging facilities on your system show anything's wrong with it? Are you seeing problems in any other applications?
Basic troubleshooting.

Photoshop cannot open files in the "Adobe Photoshop JPEG file" format
Strange intermittent issue on Mac, 10.6, CS4. Anyone know what happens to standard image files that makes them so PS cannot open them?
Thanks
~ACCheck your file name closely. If you have illegal characters it could make them unreadable (dashes, dots, slash, etc.) Also, set OS to show extensions and make sure you have not lableled it xxxxx.jgg.jpg.

Photoshop keeps opening file badly, plz help
Whenever I try to export an Illustrator file into Photoshop, each layer has some weird graphic that can't be erased:
what's going on?the image is suppose to show a drawing of a person, it has nothing to do with what it shows
but either way as you said apparently it was Illustrator exporting the file incorrectly, Version 4.0.1 seemed to have been at fault, I deleted that folder and renamed folder 4.0.0 to 4.0.1 and it solved the problem. weird but it worked... maybe a corrupted update? It kept giving me an error with the files VersionCue.dll and VersionCueUI.dll
