Photoshop rotate layer without rotating background?

back when i used photoshop 5.0 this was as simple as selecting the layer you created that you wanted to rotate and then selecting cw ccw 180 or abatrary and that was all you had to do but for some reason when i choose to rotate the image it rotates all layers. what am i missing? i feel like a retard i used to be so fluant with this program but now i feel like a complete idiot. also what about rotating a selected area on a single layer image?

The only idiots are those who DON'T ask questions! To add to what was said above, make the layer active and then go to Edit>Free Transform. (or cmd/ctrl-T) if you move your cursor outside of the Free Transform box, it'll turn into a double arrow that is curved. Just click and drag until you arrive at the amount of rotation you need. Also, if you hold down the Shift key while rotating, it will rotate in 15 degree increments. If you can't see all of the Free Transform box, press cmd/ctrl 0 (zero) and the image will zoom out enough to see the entire box - then rotate.

  • Is it possible to add a blur filter to a transparent layer without any background?

    I want to have a Blur Oval Vignette feathered on the inside on a transparent background to use as a template. So then I could open an image, then open the template on top of the background image and would automatically have a Blur Vignette image without having to create it from scratch each time.

  • Rotating image without duplicating background?

    Hello,
    is it possible in CS5 to rotate an image (without scaling the image dimension ) without duplicating the background layer to rotate this layer?
    Carlos

    I am assuming that when you open your photo in CS5 that the layer is automatically locked?
    If yes, then you can right click that layer and there is an option at the top called "Layer From Background...".
    This unlocks that layer without having to duplicate it.
    To rotate an image without changing dimensions of the actual photo?  When you rotate an image the width and the height dimensions are switch depending on how you rotate.
    Under Edit>>Transform, you will get 4 different options to rotate.
    The rotate at the top is to manually rotate the image.  The other rotates are presets which might be what your after.

  • How to achieve rotating background effect?

    I am interested in creating a rotating background like the
    one found at
    Dispatch . I know how to
    set the rotation angle, but i have no idea how to make it rotate
    where you can see it moving. I also know how to make something
    slide in a line, but i dont know how to make it rotate.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    There is no one tool or method that will render that type of background. It is a stack of layers containing the various shapes and stylized strokes you see. Their interacions are enhanced by their varied colours, edge hardness, layer blend modes, and layer opacity. Once you realize that it's a series of separate and very simple objects, layering up something like this isn't really that difficult, though it might take some artistic vision, taste and experimentation to produce a result that looks pleasing, and not just random or disparate.
    If it's within your budget to purchase some pre-made art of this type, Digital Juice makes some every interesting layered images that you can customize for yourself by manipulating layers. Just having a look at their site can give you some ideas as to how art like this is produced.

  • Want to create an oval vignette in photoshop elements 10 with transparent background for printing w

    I am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.
    Appreciate any guidance.

    Try with the Elliptical marquee tool:
    On the tool's option bar set feather 25-40 px (experiment)
    Drag out the Ellipse to embrace the object
    Go to Layer>new>layer via copy, or CTRL+J
    Your selection should fade out as a vignette and be surrounded by transparency
    Save this layer via File>save for web, select PNG-24, and tick "Transparency"

  • Saving a image without a background

    I did the tutorial on Removing Image Backgrounds with

    without a background. I am trying to save it for a website. I have

    Official JPEG specs does not allow any transparency at all,
    so save your
    time and quit trying it. GIF only support limited colors (up
    to 256), one
    of that can be assigned as "transparent". So when FW exports
    GIF from a
    source file that have any partial transparency, it "premixes"
    any partial
    transparent color of source with "matte" color. In case the
    latter
    correspond to average color of your page background, and your
    page
    background is not too wild and colorful, and you are not
    using too wide
    partially transparent stuff, it normally work well.
    Among the image formats common on the Web, only PNG provides
    true partial
    transparency. Alas, IE still does not correctly understand
    that part of
    PNG specs that was set years ago. So if you definitely
    positevely can't
    live without transparency things that are available in GIFs,
    PNG plus
    specific CSS and\or Javascript trics is the only way to go.
    However, I'd
    personally make sure I can't live with old limited GIFs
    before going that
    way.

  • Photoshop CS6 still running in Background Processes, won't close

    Lately, I've been having a problem with Photoshop CS6 where, even after I close the program, Photoshop.exe is still running under Background Processes in the task manager. Hitting "end task" on the program doesn't do anything. It takes up quite a big portion of my processing power, and it usually closes on its own if I just wait a good 5-10 minutes. Even weirder, while this "Ghost Photoshop" is running in the background, I can launch a new version of Photoshop, that will run at the same time without any trouble (aside from the expected slowness when a chunk of my processing power is being eaten up by whatever Ghost Photoshop is doing). I'm running Photoshop CS6 on Windows 8, with just one extension installed-- Coolorus 2.0.

    They were using the little red "x", file > quit allowed her to reopen the program etc. I find it weird that it wont close with the "x" but if I right click the icon on the task bar, it wont allow me to reopen or do anything with it so I was under the assumption it was stuck open.

  • New Layer without dialog box on CS5.1 ???

    I'm sure this question must have been asked somewhere before now but I haven't had much finding the answer...
    In past versions I think this was do-able with something like Cmd + Opt + Shift + N but this plain ain't happening with CS 5.1 anyone got any idea how this is mapped these days? One feature that continues to annoy me with Photoshop is that this is "on by default" - a nuisance if you are working with multiple layered pieces....
    Much prefer this to be off by default and accessible through the layer palette instead...

    No, it is not solved which is why I have not marked it so and indeed which is why I asked the question.
    If you or someone who knows the actual shourtcut would be kind enough to share the correct shortcut for what I wan't to do then I will test it and be able to conferm,,, but indeed the handbags are still very much out:
    As mentioned in CS5 on the other thread it was simply sufficient to use the command key to summon up the Color picker Hud... in 5.1 however its Ctrl + Cmd + Opt even with hyperdock off... Why not makee it CMD + QWEERTMNBBVGH5478  + CMD (Right) just to see how patient or dextrous the user really is????
    Inconsistent...
    Cmd + **** + N by default brings up a New Layer with dialog.... but what brings up New Layer without? I have in any case remapped F2 to the former and I think everyone and their Uncle by now know and are used to Cmd (Ctrl) + X. C and V for clipboard operations... so repetition on the F keys is lame... Better used as Power Shortcuts imo to flip, duplicate and create new layers imo - grea,t except for this dialog box every time you summon up a new layer!....

    when i open .jpg picture in photoshop on MAC the the background thumbnail in the layers panel looks like a white box with the brush inside instead of picture thumbnail. how to fix it?

    Very easy. That means you have a "no layer thumbnails" option selected.
    Go into the Layers Panel menu at the upper right of the Panel, choose Panel Options and you will see Thumbnail sizes to choose from.
    Select one, click OK.

  • How do i remove the white background from a logo and save it to my computer without the background

    how do i remove the white background from a logo and save it to my computer without the background

    Is the logo in a pixel layer surrounded by white?
    You could make it a layer if it isn't already, then use the Layer Style dialog and set the Blend If parameter so that it will make light colors transparent...
    You can composite it into a web page with transparency by saving it as a PNG file, as JJMack has noted.

  • "create new layer without dialog"  redefine shortciut

    Hello.
    A want to redefine default shortcut for command "Create new layer without dialog" but i cannot find this command in shortcut preferences.
    In which section of shortcut preferences, in photoshop cs6, nested this command?
    Thanks.

    I don't believe that is a shortcut that can be redefined per se in the shortcut editor, but you could use a script and assign a keyboard shortcut to the script.
    The following script will make a new layer without the dialog.
    // =======================================================
    var idMk = charIDToTypeID( "Mk  " );
        var desc10 = new ActionDescriptor();
        var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
            var ref9 = new ActionReference();
            var idLyr = charIDToTypeID( "Lyr " );
            ref9.putClass( idLyr );
        desc10.putReference( idnull, ref9 );
    executeAction( idMk, desc10, DialogModes.NO );
    You can copy the above script, paste into Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6 and then save the script to the cs6 Presets>Scripts folder in the photoshop cs6 program/application folder.
    (you can name it whatever you want as long as the extension is .jsx)
    Then when you restart photoshop cs6, it should be listed under File>Scripts and you can use the keyboard shortcut editor to assign a shortcut to the script.
    What operating system are you using?

    My Adobe trial for Photoshop Elements 10 for the Mac was over and I wanted to buy the application. The screen message was "Your trial has expired...but the fun doesn't have to end! Buy now to continue using Photoshop Elements 10 without having to download or re-install. " and then the button "Buy Now". When I hit the Buy Now button I am put in a field to buy Photoshop Elements 13, with no way to change to Elements 10. I do not want to go through the hassle of reinstalling etc. In fairness, it's been over a month since making the decision to buy. Still, I consider this a nightmare. Any ideas on how to buy the app I've got withou having to purchase a whole new one? Thanks.
    If worse comes to worse, will I need to uninstall the trial if I buy a new version? Can I use part of it lime download assistant?

    Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.  If you wish to purchase an older version you will have to find and take your chances with a third party vendor.

  • Opening a smart object (photoshop cc layer) in camera RAW?

    Opening a smart object (photoshop cc layer) in camera RAW? I have opened a processed RAW file from lightroom into photoshop cc, then done various processing and created a merged layer. I've then convered this layer to smart object (it displays the smart object layer icon). When I double-click this layer thumbnail it opens up in a seperate photoshop tab and I want to go back to RAW. I've tried this on various files and I can't seem to reopen smart objects back in RAW. I have file handling preferences set to "prefer adobe camera raw for supported raw files" and have done a fair amount of 'googling' but not getting anywhere. Thanks for any help

    Try the Filter menu item then select Camera Raw Filter. it should then open in ACR for further editing. No it is not the RAW image but the smart object you have.
