Photoshop saving and preview problem in Mavericks

Using photoshop CS3 in Mavericks and I get a ‘can't save file because it is already in use or was left open’ message when I try and save a photoshop file.
Found a fix online which is to turn off ‘Show preview column’ in show view options, but this is a pain because I like to have the preview with image and file info.
Is there a way around this, seems a strange way to get around this problem.

Three things:
• You need to make sure you have updated to Photoshop 10.0.1, Bridge 2.1.1.9 and Camera Raw (ACR) 4.6.
• You need to purge the cache for the offending folders through the Tools menu in Bridge.
• You need the Bridge forum:

Please post there if you need further Bridge help.
Raw files from the D300 are not supported by the old, obsolete version of ACR that gets installed by default by CS3.  What you're seeing now is the embedded JPEG preview only, not the converted raw.   That's why you have to upgrade to ACR 4.6

  • Saving Jpeg in Photoshop CS4 and having problems

Okay, i have been looking all over the internet and i hope it's something really foolish...
After editing a photo in Photoshop (CS4) and saving it as a JPEG / JPG, many people using windows can't open the file, and it gets the extension .JPGG ( ...?... )
If I import the picture in Iphoto first and then mail it ther is no problem.
perhaps this is quite obvious to some, but it's a mystery to me.
To update my website i need to save my JPG files to an XML folder and then flash reads the files and opens them in the site.
The JPG files i saved using photoshop won't open in the site, even worse, the site won't even load because the loader gets 'stuck'.
i tried putting them in Iphoto first because that helped with with mailing, but it doesn't seem to be working this time.
I've tried all the JPG saving options like Baseline etc. converted them to RGB ( they already were) so i'm out of options.
    ANYONE ?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I have CS3 so don't know if there's major changes to the formatting process by each version. That may be a question to ask in the Adobe support forum.
However, for a workaround you might try using the Automator workflow I created to change any image file to jpg with the sRGB color profile. Just drag the files onto the workflow icon and they will be converted. You can get it, "Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile", at Toad's Cellar. See if those jpgs will work OK. There will be some jpeg compression applied but if they are for posting on the web it may not be objectionable.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Raw file thumbnail and preview problem in Bridge

When downloading raw files from my new Nikon D3, Bridge generates thumbnails that are a fixed size and the preview panel only shows a thumbnail as opposed to enlarging the image to fit the preview panel. Thumbnails and Preview still work fine with jpegs. My versions of CS3, Bridge and Version Cue are up to date, I believe.
    Thanks...

  • Repair/verify disk permissions and Preview problem.

The preview problem is yet to be solved + is outlined here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=298858&tstart=0
    Also:
I decided to open up disk utility and verify disk permissions, this went fine. I then went on to 'verify disk' and it told me:
    Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
What's the solution? start up from OSX install disc? is this hard to do?

I am also having trouble with "verify disk permissions".
I have had frequent crashes recenlty and as a result upgraded to Tiger. The system crashes sometime when recovering from sleep (twice yesterday) and was crashing ferquently in Panther OS when hitting the odd key here and there.
Since upgrading to Tiger, I have apparrently successfully "repaired the disc permissions" on the start up volume, but then when I come to check them again, there are still the same problems, even though the "disk utility" has been run successfully. Have run disc warrior and "Verify disk" and still not convinced.
I also notice that the machine seems to be much slower running Tiger than before.
I avoided a complete install of the new OS because of all the aggro that involves, but it may be my only option if no one can help.
    All thoughts appreciated.

  • CS5 confusion about saving and previews

I'm adjusting to the recent upgrade to CS5 but have reached a hiccup. I'm on a Mac Pro (2010) with OS 10.6.4. Previously, when I've saved a file (whether it was a jpg, tiff, eps, png., psd...), a preview was created. If I double-clicked on it to open it, even if Photoshop wasn't opened, the document would open up in the native Photoshop software. Now, after saving a tif, jpg. or eps., upon double-clicking, the document opens up in the generic Macintoch preview window and will not initiate the Photoshop software. I checked my preferences for document handling and the "Always Save" in: Icon and Windows Thumbnail are checked. There is no longer a save in Macintosh Thumbnail, as in previous software versions. I hope this explains my full dilemma and that a member will see the discrepancy to help me out. Is there something I need to change that I can't recognize?
    Thanks,
    Al

I'm a bit confused by your explanation, is the problem that when you save the file it doesn't have a thumbnail? If so, are you running Photoshop 12.0.1? There was a fix on the 12.0.1 update to fix this.
If the problem is that when you double click on a file it doesn't open in Photoshop, then you just need to change a preference in Finder. Select the file you want (say, a .tif) and go to File>Get Info (or Command+I). On the "Open With:" option, choose Photoshop CS5 from the drop down menu. After that, click on the "Change all" button below it. You'll need to do that to all the extensions you want (.jpg, etc)
    Hope this helps!

  • Crashing and preview problems

    Hi Folks,
I had purchased the Premire Elements 8 pack a month ago and I find myself struggling with it on a daily basis and I will appreciate your help.
H/W Environment: Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit), Intel Core Duo CPU T8100 2.1 GHz, 4GB RAM, 120GB free on my HDD
    S/W Environment: Premiere elements 8.0 + Photosop 8.0 Elements + ProDAD plugins
Error message:  "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Elements to shut down"
    Problem description:
    1) While working with the Premiere Elements 8, (even without ProDAD plugins) the system crushes again and again and its almost impossible to with it.
    2) If I am lucky and I managed to create a basic project (few pictures with ProDAD transition effects) the Premiere is unable to run a preview show, the time bar is moving forward but the preview screen is freezing. in order to overcome this issue I had to save the project as a clip and than evaluate it.
    3) Saving the project as a solution for #2 is taking approximatly 1.5 hour.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ofer

    Hi Steve,
    1) I am using SONY Handycam DCR-SX30E and the video format is .mpg
    2) I turned off the program's intrusive background processes and install the latest updates as you recommended.
Unfortunately the problem was not resolved.
I would like to emphasize that the problem that I am facing is not related to video at all, its happening even without any video (only jpg files)
    After all the updates:
I created a small project contain of 10 jpg files( 3.5 MB each), NO video in it
I added 6 transition effects (Premiere effects) and 3 transition effects by ProDAD Adorage plugin
While trying to see the preview clip some transitions didnt appear at all
I tried to save the project as AVI like I used to do, the project couldn't complete the saving process An Error popup indicate that an "Error compiling movie. unknown error. "
After closing the Premiere completely and after several attempts I managed to save the file on my PC as an AVI format (it took 20 min to complete the process), but the result was an AVI with partial data on it ( only with the first effect and first jpg)
I would like to mention also that the main problem was not resolved and I am still facing severe crushes very frequently.
    Regards,
    Ofer

  • Big preview problems on Mavericks

Raw files are way too slow compared to Mountain Lion on quick preview.
It's something that i use on a daily basis, and today was impossible to do it... :S Spinning wheel all the time.
    Anyone has the same problem?

I'm using JPGs and it's really slow. I'm referring to the Preview app instead of Quick Look in the finder. I use Preview because I can go though pictures and seperate quickly those that out of focus from the sharp pics. Quick Look is also slow.
Over half my SSD is free, so it's not space.
I attempted to use the Preview App from Mountain Lion, but Mavericks refused to let it run.
If I boot from my USB drive to 10.8.5 Preview is perfectly fine, even on the HD with Mavericks. I may just have to boot that way to sperate my pictures until a fix is issued or a setting is changed.

  • How to always show rulers in Photoshop CS5 and other problems

Does anyone know how to make Photoshop CS5 always show rulers in mac? I have not have this issue with any other PS. I need the rulers to drag guides contantly, but photoshop cs5 would not show the rulers automatically. Everytime I have to go to View --> Show rulers or the shortcut command + R. Is there a way to instruct Photoshop to always show rules with any file I open or create?
I have many other issues with Photoshop CS5 that CS2, 3, and 4 had out of the box... It is very frustrating that I spent all this money and instead of working, I have been on the phone with Adobe for hours... I am very disappointed so far.
I have had CS5 Master's Collection for 2 months now on Mac 10.6.7. I have reinstalled Photoshop 3 times as some shortcuts were not working like shift plus scroll to inscrease to 100%, 200%, etc.
The other thing that still does not work and Adobe has not offered a solution is that my Photoshop would not append extensions. Regardless of the Preferences settings, all my files get saved as JPG instead of jpg... I wonder if any of you out there have this issue as well?
    Thank you.

I believe my computer and its account are healthy. I just bought the mac pro with solid state and the only programs I have installed are the Master Collection CS5.
I have good news though - After two months of waiting, I was finally able to speak with Adobe specialists yesterday and they changed the shortcut for Save As that Photoshop ships with from Command + Alt + S to Command + Shift + S - and miraculously now Photoshop appends extensions!!!
However, my question about always displaying rulers remains. We got disconnected and I didn't have a chance to ask them (I was on hold for an hour and a half!)

  • Mail and Notes problems in Mavericks

I've just installed Mavericks and I'm instantly having problems with Mail and Notes. To wit:
    1) Prior to the upgrade, I had dozens of messages flagged. Now, almost no messages show up as flagged.
    2) Some Smart Mailboxes now only display only a handful of messages, when before the upgrade some of those boxes contained dozens, if not hundreds of messages.
    3) Now that Notes has been separated from Mail (I skipped Mountain Lion altogether) I can't get my iCloud notes to sync to the new app.
    Any guesses or advice?
    Thank you,
    Jeff

    Hello Oskar98,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when importing video from your camera into iMovie.  I was not sure of the exact steps you took to import the video footage, and I wanted to provide the steps to confirm you are following all the steps.
Try importing the footage from your camera by clicking on the link that refers to your camera type and following the steps in the related article:
To create movies in iMovie, you must import (transfer) your video footage from your camera to your Mac. You can import from most types of cameras, including:
    iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch
    File-based cameras
    Tape-based cameras
You can find additional information about importing at the following link:

  • Quick view and preview problems

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've experienced consistent problems with quick view and the preview image on column view. I always browse the Finder in column view, so for instance, if I were to browse through a folder of photos, instead of seeing a thumbnail image in the far right column, there is blank white space. If I resize the window, the thumbnail appears. Also, if I were to hit the space bar for quick view, only a white image will appear. Closing it and reopening it will correct the problem. This happens every time. The problem started when upgrading to OS X 10.8 from 10.6.8, and it persists after the 10.8.1 update. Computer is an early 2009 iMac, 2.93 GHz, GT 120 video card. Anyone seen something similar? I haven't been able to find anyone else with the problem.

I have the exact same problem and it's frustrating. I thought it was only when I double-clicked an attachment jpeg from Entourage, but it happens with all images from any source.
I've removed the plist on several occasions too, and it works fine for a while. I can't pin down when it decides to stop working again, but it does after a few image views.
It's only happened since the Snow Leopard installation. I'm up to date with all Apple updates.

  • Photoshop CS5 and 3D problem

    Hi!
I installed photoshop CS5 Extended and unfortunatelly the 3D menu options are all grayed out.
My graphic card: ATI Radeon HD 3600
I enabled the OpenGL drawing. In the Preferences menu the 3D panel was active after i turned on the OpenGL drawing, but everytime I want to use some 3D feature the program tells that  - for example: "The command create 3D from 2D is not currently available." OR "The command create repoussé from layer mask is not currently available."
I don't know what could be the problem or maybe I need better graphic card?

Hi, for some strange reason all of the 3D menus in my CS5 extended are not displayed on my workstation but up and active on my laptop and I just cannot find the reason why. I have a Radeon 4870HD 1GB DDR5 and have downloaded the latest drivers including open gl3.2 but it makes no difference, have you any idea would could be wrong.
I have looked in Menus and all of the data is there but it just wont display on the menu bar, its driving me nuts!
    Many thanks David

  • Lightroom to Photoshop questions and ACR problems

    I have Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CS5.
I've been working between the two with no problem until recently.
When i move a photo from LR to PS5:

  • Adobe and Preview problem

    hello!!
I posted this question in the Appleworks forum, and later under Finder and Dock Forum here. I thought that the issue was resolved, but this is not so.
    here is the problem.
I prefer Acrobat to Preview, to work on PDF documents. Therefore, I have, on multiple occassions, selected the PDF documents, and "open with" Adobe Acrobat" and "Change ALL".
However, almost every time (but not ALL the time) I log out and come back, the default changes to the Preview. As good as Preview is, the idea that my MacBook Pro is misbehaving is annoying.
    Then I did the following.
    1. Select on the file such as pdf.
    2. Right click and select the command Open with.
    3. To change the default application. Select Other...
    4. Then select the Adobe application and check the Always open with button.
Even this did not solve the problem. When I log back in, the default application for PDF had changed to Preview Not always however)
Then I was told that I may have a corrupt Finder cache and that I ought to address my question here.
    Atthis point, I was told:
Try using a utility called Yasu to fix the problem. You can download Yasu at http://jimmitchell.org/projects/yasu/
I did so, and for 2-3 days now, there were no problems. And now, all of a sudden, I have the same problem.
I have NOT done anything unusual with my MBP. In fact, last night, a pdf document was opened with Adobe. And then I restarted the MBP now, and, it is all back to Preview.
    What ought I do?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
    Thanks:
I did exactly what Xlabs asked me to do.
    1. Quit all running applications.
    2. Trash the following two files in the Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder:
    com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
    com.apple.LaunchServices-014nnn.csstore
    3. Restart your Mac.
    4. Log in to the affected account.
    5. Empty the Trash.
    6. Verify that the problem is solved. If not:
Trash the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file in the Home > Library > Preferences folder of the affected account. .
    Repeat steps 1-5.
Then I selected Acrobat as the Default application, "change all" etc in get info.
When I restarted however,No Luck. Once again, Preview is the default applicaqtion for PDF.
Annoying. And on principle, I would like to know why this happens!!
    Thanks for your input!

Upgraded iMac to OS x 10.10.1 and now find that Photoshop CS3 (606) crashes after launch. It seems to make progress to the point where the menu bar is presented and then crashes. I've searched for others with this problem and tried various recommended fixes such as re-installing Java SE6, Java for OS X 2014-001, running the 'Reinstall Photoshop' utility . . . no change. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This is a user-to-user forum, so no one here works for Apple. None of us have any idea what they have running behind the scenes. I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait and see like the rest of us. It's against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions to speculate about unannounced or unreleased products, but the Macworld Expo starts in San Francisco in a little more than two weeks. In the past, Apple has released software updates at the same time as the expo to support new software and hardware. No one here can speculate if this will include the update you're looking for, however.
