Photoshop screws up colors in my jpgs

So, I've been working in Illustrator and then rasterizing my file in Photoshop so I can save as a jpg, and for 2 drafts it went off fine, but of course the last and final draft it screws up the colors in the jpg completely, it looks fine when viewed in Ps but when I go to send it out and it's a hot mess... what is happening?

maybe you deselected the ICC Profile checkbox when saving the last jpg.
Edit: no wait, scratch that, make sure that the image is in sRGB before you save it. Best way to do this is to save it using File->Save for Web & Devices (unless you are working with 20mb+ files)

I'm working on a website and I'm having issues with the color

CS4 integration is much better. Can it be even better? Sure,
    but only so
much can be done in each release.
FW CS4 supports PS vector objects, PS vector masks and Layer
    Comps, as
well as PS type (even on a path). It does not support
    clipping paths as
editable objects, but you can opt to flatten the clipping
    path so the
    look remains the same.
FW does not support Adjustment layers or Smart Objects.
    Adjustment
layers can be brought in flattened, but you lose the
    editability. Smart
Objects are brought in, but as flattened bitmaps; any link to
    the parent
    program is lost.
Fireworks does not understand color profiles, which is
    usually where the
    color issue stems from.
Disable the color management in Photoshop to allow the colors
    to be the
same as they are in Fireworks. There's a bit more info in the
    link below.

I am using Photoshop Elements 11.  Do all .jpg formatted file have to be retangular in shape?  I want to create an oval .jpg picture to insert into a book.  Haven't been able to do so.  It would work if I could make the area outside the oval completely transparent.  Can anyone help me here?

JPG does not support transparency, so even if you create an oval with transparent background, the saved JPG will have white background. Instead, save it as a PNG, TIFF, or GIF which preserve the transparency.
Here is one of many ways to create your oval:
Create a new file the approximate size of the oval. Add the oval with the Custom Shape Ellipse tool, and simplify the shape layer.
In the Layers Palette, Ctrl-click the oval to select it and copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the oval with transparent background cropped to the oval size.
Then save it as one of the file types that support transparency (and also supported by the application where you are sending the picture to).
Note:  Is is not even necessary to do step 2. That is only if some reason you want the oval to be tightly cropped. It is sufficient to delete the Background layer in step 1 (or turn off its visibility) and save the file. The oval will appear correctly in the book with either version.

  • How do I make Photoshop the default Edit App for .jpg in Windows 7?

How do I make Photoshop the default Edit App for .jpg in Windows 7?    I want to be able to right click on a .jpg file, select the EDIT option in the Context Menu, then have Photoshop edit the file instead of Paint.
In Windows XP it was very easy to use the File Manger to associate the file type .jpg and action edit with Photoshop.    No so easy in Windows 7.  It is easy to change the default OPEN application, but I would like to leave Windows Viewer as the default OPEN application and have Photoshop as the EDIT applicaiton.

Before I posted the original question here, I had probably spent a couple of hours trying to research it.   I hate to find no answer for something I know can be done.   So I spent some more time and found the following in the bowels of a Tech Forum that is generally way over my head.  I have modified it to be Photoshop specific.
These instructions will update the default EDIT action for image types - jpg, png, gif and the variations.     If you are unfamiliar with editing the program registry you probably will want to back up your registry or take a system backup.
    1. Open up the registry editor (Regedit.exe).
You will need to be signed on as a Windows user that is an administrator
    2. Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> SystemFileAssociations -> image ->  shell -> edit -> command
This seems like it would be easy but it is not, because there are many key names that are very close (like System.FilesAssociations).   Keep looking because you will find it eventually.
    3. Double click on "Default" (on right window pane) and update the program location.
You should see that MSPAINT.EXE is the current program.
Erase the existing value and enter you photoshop location in quotes followed by %1 in quotes.  For me this is "C:\Program Files  (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
    Hit return.
    4.  Exit Regit and test.

  • Lllustrator and Photoshop display different colors despite synchronized CS5 Color Settings

I've got some students who noticed that Illustrator and Photoshop display completely different colors on screen for eactly the same RGB values despite Color Settings being synchronized.
    Settings are:
CSF: North American Web/Internet  (RGB color space = sRGB),
    Proof Set-up: Internet Standard sRGB
    Proof Colors turned On.
    RGB Values:  R=0  G= 162  B=211
But colors displayed are not close between Ai and Ps.
With Proof Colors turned off, both apps display the colors reasonably closely.
I teach Photoshop and Print Color Management, so I admit my knowledge of how Illustrator handles screen proofing and proof set-ups for screen destinations is not comprehensive.
I expect I'm missing some difference in the two apps' behaviour.
Any info from anyone experienced in this corner of the field appreciated.

  • Lightroom and GIMP color issue using jpg

    Here is what I do:
Using an iMac (Tiger) and have my monitor calibrated using the built in MacOS tool. The profile is stored in the Library/ColorSync/Profiles folder. In the GIMP settings about color management, I have chosen the monitor profile from above as the monitor profile and the RGB profile.
I have a (Canon) RAW image mainly in a neutral, if not slightly yellowish, tone with some beautiful golden pins. Imported the CR2 into Adobe Lightroom and exported in sRGB color space, the jpg looks like this: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1283133
Now I would love this with a nice frame, so I did a hi quality export, loaded it into GIMP 2.4.3, added a frame, and saved it as full size jpg. When I look at the resulting jpg in MacOS Preview application, it looks fine and so it does when I upload it to the web: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1284108
But as I manage all my images in Lightroom, I also want to manage this one in Lightroom, so I imported it. And look what's coming out: http://www.ipernity.com/doc/18039/1284100
    It's all purple!
It looks the same in Lightroom, Preview and uploaded. Purple. What am I doing wrong? Is there any hidden Lightroom setting I have scambled?
When I am saving TIFF from GIMP, Lightroom imports with proper colors.

The third one (reimported into Lightroom) is indeed purplish. Are you using the latest gimp? Versions of gimp before a while ago could not color manage and will probably forget about the profile. It was only recently added. You should have the working space set to sRGB (so not RGB as you wrote above) in the gimp probably for this image. Also, make sure you do NOT save as a progressive jpeg, but only using baseline compression. Lightroom tends to change the color of progressive jpegs. This is probably what is going on.

  • Photoshop / Indesign / Acrobat / - color match ?

I'm printing a color chart using CS4, a Mac (10.5.7), and my inkjet (HP B8850)
If Adobe and Apple made the color managment corectly, wich i assume they did, i should be able to print the same TIFF file correctly with the same colors in all the CS app. To print a chart, you're supposed to turn CM off.
So i printed the chart in Photoshop. Then i created a document where i import the TIFF file in Indesign, and choosed 'emulate indesign 2.0…'…
After experience a lot of trouble, i've understand there was a problem with Indesign CS3/CS4 and i have to choose to print as bitmap in the print settings.
    See here : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/285075?tstart=0
So now i have a chart that looks exactly like the one from Photoshop. Great.
I should be able to get the same result with Acrobat Pro (9).
So ive exported my Indesign doc with no profils. Open it in Acrobat, goin to the print settings, advanced setttings and in the profil section i choose to not use profiles. I use the same settings from my printer than before. So i print and i don't get the right result (looks exactly the same as my wrong outputs from Indesign before using Bitmap !). So i felt like tryin to print as bitmap as well in Acrobat. But hell, the colors are completly different again, and quite faded.
Did i made something wrong ?
I wonder why all the color settings are so different thru all those apps ? I thought there were using the same color managment now ?!

Sorry just tripped across this thread, but here is an answer incase anyone else finds this.
Short Answer is they do, Adobe ACE. Longer Answer is you use Adobe Bridge to keep the CS Suite in sync with each other.
OS X Instructions, Sorry no Windows, should be close to the same.
To Add Photoshop Settings to all Suite Applications:
    Open: Photoshop
Click; Edit --> Color Settings (cmd+shift+K)
Set your color setting the way you want them. Click Save
Save your Color Settings in: "yourusername"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Settings/  Give it a name and description as you see fit.
    Open: Adobe Bridge
Click; Edit --> Creative Suite Color Settings (cmd+shift+K) make sure your settings are in the list and selected then click Apply, it will now be available to everything in the Suite.
Your Color Settings will now be synchronized
That should solve your color inconsistancy problem moving from Application to Application within the Suite.

  • Photoshop CS5 ruining color now?

    Hi all.
I captured a screen shot on my Mac using Grab, and pasted it into Photoshop.  The color was way off, with a pinkish cast added.  You can see a comparison here; the original is on the left and Photoshop is on the right.
I brought this split-screen shot into PS and the cast got even worse.  I tried both TIFFs and PNGs, and Photoshop is wrecking the color.  I can't find any explanation in the settings.  Any ideas?  PS is pretty much unusable at this point.

Mobius Strip, discussing the profile of screen grabs is all distracting twaddle…
Since you don't seem to be aware of this, your Color settings are located here Edit > Color Settings. You need to make sure these settings match in CS4 and 5, and that no "Convert to…" settings are switched on in either. 'Convert To…" will automatically convert opened documents to your default profiles, specified in this dialog. Which you don't want.
You need to develop some basic understanding of Color Management.
what is Photoshop displaying when "proof color" is off?  Because it's not what other apps are showing from the same files.
It is attempting to display the actual colors contained within the document. Whatever profile that document may be in. It uses the monitor profile, which it assumes to be accurate, to do this. This attempt is restricted only by the full gamut (range of colors) available on your monitor.
There were no changes to Color Management features between Photoshop CS4 and CS5. In every resect they will display colors the same. To be 100% sure than Photoshop is behaving the same in both cases, make sure also that Open GL is consistently switched on or off for both versions.

  • Moving images from Lightroom to Photoshop 2014 CC – Color Problems?

For some reason, whenever I select "Edit in Photoshop 2014 CC", the image color is not only extremely different from what's displayed in Lightroom, it's dark and dull. However, if I export the image as a .jpg and then import it into Photoshop 2014 CC the color looks the same as what's displayed in Lightroom and this is with NO color correction.
Why is this happening and how should I be moving files between the two apps? BTW, I shot the images with a Canon T3i that saves the image as a CR2 and JPG.
    Thanks!

I'm running Lightroom and Photoshop CS3. "Edit image in Photoshop CS3" works fine for me. I'm on an iMac and had Lightroom installed first, only thing I noticed is it takes PS a little longer to open up.

  • Consistent colors when publishing JPG web gallery?

What is the best way to get the JPGs from my RAW-files to look the same (or close) in Firefox/Internet explorer as in Lightroom?
Do browsers accept embedded color profiles?
I know different people have different settings, but for starters I would like the JPGs to look the same on *my machine*! :-)
I know nothing about Color Policies, Color Management and the like and have not calibrated my monitor...

    > What is the best way to get the JPGs from my RAW-files to look the same (or close) in Firefox/Internet explorer as in Lightroom?
Make sure the exported JPEG has been converted to the sRGB color space ...
    > Do browsers accept embedded color profiles?
Some do -- most do not ...
    > I know different people have different settings, but for starters I would like the JPGs to look the same on *my machine*! :-)
Appearing correct on your machine is somewhat dependent on the kind of machine you have -- you do not say(?) In any case, it will come down to the CM you employ ... which of your apps are CM-savvy ... and the color space your JPEGs are exported to.
Regarding other people's web browsers, you have absolutely no control ... but you can accept the fact that your imagery will look the way you want on "most" monitors if you export to sRGB.
    > I know nothing about Color Policies, Color Management and the like and have not calibrated my monitor...
Your question is very much dependent on you educating yourself. You could stick to Lr, for which CM is entirely transparent but dependent on properly compensating for your monitor's color, as well as exporting solely to sRGB (a
de facto standard for "most" monitors), and CM will be simplified for you. However, most cameras are quite capable of more colors than be shown with you monitor or that can be contained within the sRGB gamut -- therefore, you will be missing some of the experience of color digital photography if you do not calibrate your monitor and delve a bit further into understanding "working" and "device" color spaces.

  • Reducing colors on a jpg photo

Just curious to know if I can  reduce colors in a photo (jpg), then to change it to a vector drawing in Elements.  I have a new embroidery machine and I would love to digitize some of my photos into embroidery patterns.  The embroidery software I have will change vector art into a stitch pattern that the embroidery machine can read.
I am new to Elements, previously had been using Paint Shop Pro for photo edits.
If this can be done is there a tutorial I can watch?
    Thanks,

You might ask the person what method they used in photoshop to reduce the colors and there's probably a good chance you can do the same in elements.

  • Photoshop to Illustrator color shifting

First off, I have my Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS color preferences set exactly the same in both programs so the color should be consistent from one to the other. However, lately the colors are giving me huge hassles! In Photoshop CS2, I create CMYK PSDs with consistent, background solid color throughout multiple files. I then flatten my images and eye drop the colors to check and everything is consistent. I then open Illustrator CS and open, (not place) the same JPG and color sample the background and the color has shifted...what was 7%cyan in Photoshop is now 6.6% in Illustrator. This change is huge when producing large format images....can anyone help? Has this always been an issue? I've worked with these programs for years, but have just now been noticing this problem. PLEASE HELP!
