Photoshop stops running during HDR merge

Hello Photoshoppers
Hope some one has an answer..During the HDR merge I get a window that tells me that PS has stopped running..Click OK then PS shuts down . This is what I have on the issue so far ..Adobe chat help had me do all kinds of crazy stuff along with updates..The last session they had me download and open their sample pictures and try to merge them. I was infact able to merge them just fine.  Hence since I was able to merge their sample pictures..there is no program issue as they see it... I can merge 2 of my pictures but no more than 2.. My pictures were taken with a Canon T2i ,  a tripod and remote shutter device was used.. The pictures all appear exactly the sam except for exposures..  (manual but not RAW) and were downloaded as JPEGS with the sd card).. All my pictures have a file size less than 6.mb. Adobe's sample pictures were all less than 1.mb (700 kb or so )  My computer is right out of the box Windows 7 ..64 bit..4gb Ram... PS preferances, Ram was increased to allow 96% for PS usage but did not resolve the issue..
Is there a file size limit that I havent read any where? Any one else experience, or know about this issue or have any ideas ?   And yes I am new to this so don't beat me up too hard..Not to mention trying to navigate Windows 7 ..instead of XP
Thanks

Are you running Merge to HDR from Bridge or Photoshop?  If Bridge, then either make sure Photoshop is closed before starting, or open the 64bit Photoshop and then run Merge to HDR from Bridge.   I am assuming that you are running from Bridge because it is so much easier recognising the bracketed set in Bridge.    I would increase the memory setting in 64bit Photoshop to something like 80% if only to prove a point - you'll know you have plenty of resources available to work the HDR that way.
To change the settings go Edit > Preferences > Performance.
What camera are you using, and how many images in the bracketed set?  I use a 1DsMK3, and 1DMK4 both usually with five frames, and my old Q9550 system with 8Gb easily coped with five x 21Mb files.
All cameras that have a AEB (Auto exposure Bracketing) feature change the shutter speed, and never the aperture.  A note here:  I am able to change the AEB order to run from darkest through to lightest exposure, instead of the default zero offset followed by minus offset, and finally plus offset.  Having the shots in exposure order makes them much easier to find in Bridge.
Incidentally, much as I love Photoshop. it comes a poor second to HDR Soft's Photomatix with HDR processing.  ACR does a better job of processing the RAW files, and Photoshop is probably better at aligning the images, but Photomatix is better at the Tone mapping side of things, and keeps getting better.  I am not sure if I am aloud to post this here, but 4.2 beta2 was released yesterday, and you can use it for free, but it places watermarks on the processed image

  • Photoshop stopped running, other CS4 programs ok

I started getting the error message "Adobe photoshop CS4 does not run under this version of the operating system" TODAY 6/20/10.   The program ran correctly yesterday.  Same computer, same setup, same programs.  The computer is Dell Insperon 1.66GHz 2GByte, XP Home, SP3.   SP3 was installed on 3/2/09 so that is not the problem.  Automatic updates is on, however I don't see any updates that were done last night.  Illustrator CS4 installed at the same time as photoshop runs fine.   AVG is the antivirus.  I tried to stop resident shield (the real time virus scanner) still got the error.  Checked the virus vault.  Nothing has been placed in there since March.

Under these circumstances I would reset the preferences in photoshop.  To do that press and hold down the Ctrl + Sfift + Alt keys and start PS.  You should get a reset window.

  • Photoshop CS6 HDR Merge to HDR Pro SUDDENLY stopped working?!

Yesterday and in the past HDR Merge to HDR Pro worked through Photoshop CS6 and Bridge.  Suddenly its running then stops before taking me to HDR Adjustment window.  I have installed reinstalled, computer is updated, etc.  Only thing that I can find on this issue is hundreds of other people with the same problem and no solution that is working to get this function working again.

    Exact same problem here.
    CS6 Production Premium and updated.
Goes all the way through and fails.
Mine will still work with 2 images and maybe 3, but I have some stacks of 4-7 images. Not working at all.

Help. Photoshop CC14 on Mac 5k (2014) running Yosemite 10.10.1. Photoshop stops responding when I'm opening files, saving files or creating new ones. Is anyone suffering the same problem? Does anyone have an answer?

First, go install the MacOS 10.10 updates - you should be on 10.10.2.
I haven't heard of Photoshop not responding during opens and saves.  Does it stop responding while the open/save dialogs are visible, or while Photoshop is actually reading or writing files?
10.10.1 did fix a crash in the open/save dialogs, but 10.10.2 still has some odd issues (mostly program errors coming from the OS code) in the open/save dialogs.

I am not sure what's happening with IE9 (no live site) but I had real problems viewing your code in Live View - until I removed the HTML comment marked below. Basically your site was viewable in Design View but as soon a I hit Live view, it disappeared - much like IE9. See if removing the comment solves your issue.

  • Performance monitor counter alert stops working during run

I've created a counter alert whenever the processing time of a specific process falls below a certain threshold, so that a email would be sent to me through task scheduler. I had tested the set up by turning off the process and checking to see whether performance
monitor would trigger an alert (it did). Then I let the counter run continuously. After several days, I noticed that the process had froze, but the counter did not trigger an alert even though performance was clearly below the threshold I had set. It doesn't
look like the counter had stopped running either during this time. Why wasn't an alert triggered? Is it not possible to run a counter continuously?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your question.
Firstly, would you please tell us which performance counter you have chosen? Is it Process\%Processor time?
In addition, which kind of alert have you configured, to log in the event log or send emails?
    Process\% Processor
Time is the percentage of elapsed time that all of process threads used the processor to execution instructions. You can try to turn off the process which is frozen now to see if you will receive the alert.
Besides, what is the meaning of “run
a counter continuously”? Did you set any stop conditions?
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Gps stop working during the run

I've purchased my SW3 mainly due to GPS stand alone.
unfortunately it stops work during the run or just  about 10 minutes after has started.
I've tried My tracks , Run Keeper IFit outside and all of them happen the same .
    could you fix this ?

You need to download Google's My Tracks app and it will sync to your phone. Once you do just go down to my tracks and select run, and once it locks you'll see that location icon in the top left corner of watch showing that it has GPS lock

  • CS3: HDR Merge Problem with Canon 50d RAW files

I recently upgraded from a 20D to a 50D.  I'm running CS3 under WinXPpro with 3GB of RAM.  HDR merge of 3 CR2 files is causing CS3 to generate a program error and crash.  This never happened with my older (smaller) files from the 20D.  Anybody know how to fix this?
    TIA,

The suggestion was to try an HDR with smaller 50D sRAWs as an *experiment* to see if the size matters more than the camera model.  Another benefit of a 50D would be the 14-bits per pixel instead of 12-bits and an sRAW would have less noise per pixel than a full-size RAW so using smaller sRAW images might work better than a 20D's.
The "size" being referred to is the dimensions in pixels, not the on-disk size, becasue the in-memory size of an image should be similar whether it comes from a 16-bit TIFF or an 16-bit RAW conversion.
Merging RAWs will involve ACR during the HDR process, whereas merging TIFFs won't unless you have the setting to prefer ACR for TIFFs, too, which you don't indicate.
There can be data in the highlights and especially shadows from a RAW that gets thrown away when it's converted to TIFF, so merging RAWs is better than merging from TIFFs.
I currently have CS4 only on my machine so I forget, but with CS3, does it matter what output size you have set in ACR, when you do an HDR conversion from RAW?  In other words, does HDR using ACR ignore the output size or not?  If not, then perhaps setting a smaller size in ACR (the same area where you set the bit depth and conversion colorspace) would make things work or setting a larger size with 20D images would make them fail.  This is being suggested as a experiment as well, to try to isolate the issue, not necessarily a permanent solution.
I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with a 50D RAW that would make it not work, but the larger size would use more memory and maybe your machine is getting close to some sort of limit.
Other suggestions would be to reset your preferences and check your disk(s) with scandisk and/or change your scratch-disk to somewhere else to make sure there's no some corruption keeping the HDR process from working with the larger 50D images, and along those lines, also try purging your ACR cache or moving it to another drive.  You might also try changing the amount of memory available to Photoshop (ram vs scratch-disk) in the Preferences.
What module does the crash occur in, if the error says?  Is it related to display or something else?

  • Photoshop cs6 running extremely slow on opening a file. have reset prefs and set type to none.

Photoshop cs6 running extremely slow on opening a file. have reset prefs and set type to none. have to force quit  most of the time.

I'm experiencing the same trouble.  Photoshop takes 5 minutes to open then runs fine.
I recently bought a new iMac AND updated to Adobe Master Collection CS6.  My concern is that PhotoShop now takes 5 minutes to open. The Photoshop desktop pops up immediately, but the moment you click on a tool or try to open a file (no matter the size) results in the spinning wheel for five minutes before you can do anything.  After that, Photoshop appears to work fine.
    What I’ve done:
    Ran Adobe updater
    Reset Photoshop Preferences
Validated all fonts and removed any trouble fonts
    Ran the font test
Set font preview size to none
Cleared the Photoshop type cache and system cache
    Disabled Symantec Endpoint
Tried running with the GPU processor on/off and in basic
Tried opening Photoshop with optional third party plug-ins turned off (still took five minutes but this time I didn’t even get the Photoshop desktop view until AFTER the five minutes)
I’m wondering since I migrated the files form my old computer (and older versions of Master Collection) did something get corrupted.

  • HDR merge not working in CIB lesson 5

    Hello,
I've seen a few posts on this but no answers... in PS CS5 CIB Lesson 5, the HDR merge command isn't working properly with the images provided on the CD. Following the HDR merging directions in the book on page 139 and 140, the images are coming out very dark and saturated. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening, and how to make it work properly?
    Thanks!

    It's not you.
We have two relatively new Adobe Macbook Pros with OS X Lion (6 months or so old). We also have Photoshop CS5 on each (within Adobe Creative Suite 5.5).
I completed the entire Classroom in a Book (CIB) book for Photoshop CS5.
When I went through Lesson 5, I had absolutely no problem with performing their exercise with the "model" and merging the three .dng files. All of their settings worked perfectly, and I was able to complete the lesson without incident. This was maybe two or three months ago.
Today my wife was going through the same lesson, and no matter how many times she tried to follow the lesson book...reading word for word...she got the same result as you, which had the model in merge to HDR "coming out very dark and saturated".
So, we went to my Macbook Pro, where it had worked perfectly in the past when I completed the lesson months ago. However, this time and in every attempt I made, the HDR image was "coming out very dark and saturated" as well.
What worked perfectly a couple of months ago, now it is not working.
So, today it does not work, and we get the same result as you, on either of our Macbook Pros and that is two people following the exact same lesson.
    CONCLUSIONS:
It is not you (or us).
Might Photoshop have a bug? I believe I did an update between when it worked months ago and today change something? Why did it work 2-3 months ago? Might a default setting have been changed in Preferences during an update that causes the CIB Lesson 5 model Merge to HDR exercise not work? The merging these three images at three different exposures was not rendering an image anything close to any of the individual exposures. All attempts resulted in "dark and saturated"... and no adjustment of any kind improved the image to look anything like it should have.
Is it the DNG files used in the CIB Photoshop CS5 book CD? The CIB Classroom in Book Lesson 5 for Photoshop CS5 uses these specific ".dng files". I have not tried using other raw files, or even .jpgs in this Photoshop HDR feature. That would be a good test. I have used Photomatix in the past, and like those above, that is what I will use if I get more involved in HDR, but would be nice to have the Photoshop HDR feature to be one I would hopefully be able to use in the future.
If I try the Merge to HDR in Photoshop feature again using another file format, other than .dng files I will post the result.
With this said, we both have loved the CIB Photoshop CS5 book. I may have had a couple other minor issues on where to find something or had to reboot (ie. "text on a path" or 3D) to get the lesson to work.  The book lessons and video lessons were still worth every penny.

  • HDR Merge Save/Cancel controls not visible

I am using CS5 on a Mac Pro and today when creating a HDR Merge from Camera Raw the controls (Ok or Cancel) at the bottom of the screen of the HDR merge preview  screen are no longer visible.  The picture controls to the right of the merge are all working
I have tried restarting the computer and PS several times to no avail.
The HDR merge was working fine until my 4th merge and then the controls diasppeared.  It is as if the screen is to large for the display and cannot be resized or moved. I am using Lion.
    Any suggestions?

What is the current resolution setting for your screen? Is your OS X dock visible?
If you hide your OS X dock, then reset your preferences and launch Photoshop and run Merge to HDR, are the controls visible?

  • Organizer stops running

Photoshop elements 13 was working fine on my Hp Pavilion w/ i3 until I tryed to link all my old photos (4000+ in several folders) (used in old P-shop). Now Organizer will open, start to run, then give an error message that it has stopped running and will shut down. Should I reload P-Shop?

Prior to installing P-Shop Elements on my new computer, I had transferred all my photos to the new machine. Then installed Elements. Then downloaded new photos to the new machine. All worked well. Then my wife was trying to access some of the old photos. She told me that they were not available in P-Shop. I then tried to access them. They were not linked so I found the photos and tried to bring them into P-Shop. It appeared to work but after that when I tried to open Organizer it has opened and then given an error message saying it has stopped running.              Thanx, Jim

  • How do I get an actor to wait for its nested actors to stop running before stopping itself?

I'm developing a series of projects that are based on the Actor Framework and my actor dependency hierarchy is starting to get some depth. One of the issues I'm facing now is making sure that each actor will only stop running (and signal this via a Last Ack to a higher-level actor or via a notification to non-AF code that launches it) once all of its nested actors have stopped running.
For instance, say I have a type of actor that handles communication with a microcontroller over USB - a USB Controller Actor. I might want to have an application-specific actor that launches USB Controller Actor to issue commands to the microcontroller. When shutting down, I want this top-level actor to send a Stop Msg to USB Controller Actor and then wait to receive a Last Ack back before sending a notification within a provided notifier to the non-AF application code, which can then finish shutting down completely.
I'm sure that having actors wait for all nested actors to shutdown before shutting down themselves is an extremely common requirement and I'm confident National Instruments have made it possible to handle that in a simple, elegant manner. I'm just struggling to figure out what that is.
The approaches I've experimented with are:
Creating a pseudo "Stop" message for an actor that won't actually stop it running straight away, but instruct it to stop all nested actors, wait for their Last Acks and then shut itself down by sending Stop Msg to itself. This isn't elegant because it means the client will be forced to fire off these pseudo stop messages instead of Stop Msg to certain actors.
Instantiating an internally-used notifier and overriding Stop Core.vi and Handle Last Ack Core.vi. The idea is that within Stop Core.vi, I send Stop Msg to each of the nested actors and then make it wait indefinitely on the internal notifier. Within Handle Last Ack Core.vi, I make it send a notification using this notifier which allows Stop Core.vi to continue and perform deinitialisation for the top-level actor itself. Figures 1 & 2 below show this approach. I wasn't confident that this would work since it assumed that it was possible for Stop Core.vi to execute and then Handle Last Ack Core.vi to concurrently execute some time after. These assumptions didn't hold and it didn't work. It would have been messy even if it had.
Overriding Stop Core.vi, making it send Stop Msg to each nested actor and then waiting for an arbitrarily long period of time (100ms, 200ms, etc.). What if a nested actor takes only 10ms to shut down? What if takes 400ms?
The figures below show how I implemented the second approach. Ignore the broken object wires - they only appear that way in the snippets.
Figure 1 - Stop Core.vi from the second approach
Figure 2 - Handle Last Ack Core.vi from the second approach

I think that this would be a nice addition. I think how a program stops is just as important as how it starts.
I think everyone who has worked on AF design agrees with this. Indeed, managing "Stop" was *the* thing that lead to the creation of the Actor Framework in the first place. The other issues (deadlock/hang avoidance and resource management) were secondary to just trying to get a clean shutdown.
    CaseyLamers1 wrote:
I find the current code a bit lacking.
My concern would be that the mixing of a verified stop and a regular stop could create confusion and lead to people having trouble during editting and testing with the project ending up locked (due to VIs left running which did not shutting down).
Your concern is to some degree why no verified Stop exists in the AF already. We looked at each actor as an independent entity, and left it open to the programmer to add an additional managment layer for those applications that needed it. But over time, I have seen that particular management layer come up more often, which is why I am exploring the option."
So that gives one of the reasons why this hasn't already been implemented but also points out that it's something quite a lot of people want.

    Noted. Here's the discussion: https://decibel.ni.com/content/message/104983#104983
Edit: since there doesn't seem to be any NI-provided way of doing this yet, I suppose I'll try rolling my own at some point. The ideas posted in the discussion you linked seem pretty useful.

  • Tomcat 6 stop running while Oracle XE runs

    Hi All,
    =========
    My Env:
    Ubuntu 10
    =========
After a full day's research & work I managed to install Tomcat 6, Cocoon & Java files successfully. The following is my problem.
I have an existing Oracle XE running with Apex 3.2.
When I start Tomcat 6 it gets started fine, but in few seconds it stops running and gives the message " Tomcat servlet engine is not running, but pid file exists.". I can stop & start this, or restart this but the same problem happens again after few seconds with the same message ( I know this by checking the status). During this few seconds running I am able to access it via the browser by http://localhost:8180 ( I modified the port from 8080 to 8180). Apex uses port 8080. During this time I don't have any problem with Apex (set to run at start up).
When I stop the Oracle Database and start Tomcat 6 it works fine, it continues to run perfectly. Again when I start the database, I am unable to access Apex via port 8080 & get the message "can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1:8080."
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks ever so much
    Naushad

    Hi Naushad,
you probably have missed a setting to migrate the tomcat to port 8180. The behaviour you describe fits to the one I'd expect for a port conflict - either service runs perfectly when he's "alone", but doesn't work if the other one started before.
You can fix this on both sides. Reconfiguration of the port your EPG hosts your APEX may be a little easier. You just have to login as sys and execute the following block:
    begin
      dbms_xdb.sethttpport(8081);
    end;
commit;Change the port to whatever value you want.
To change your Tomcat port configuration, you probably edited the following piece in your server.xml
