Photoshop text opened in InDesign looks aweful

I must being doing something very wrong: creating a book cover (using iPad display dimensions) in Photoshop, adding Monotype Corsiva title/author text onto an artist's .jpeg (150 ppi). It looks fine in Photoshop but when I save and place into InDesign (same iPad dimensions) the text looks degraded. I've tried .EPS and all anit aliasing settings to no avail. Can't find anything in the manual, so if anyone has any advice I'd be v. grateful. Mucho gracias...

Display screen dimensions do not use PPI. Why are you defining PPI?  Why are you choosing EPS?
Use PDF and create your graphic at the specific pixel dimensions required for your display device: 1024x768 pixels.
Also beware that InDesign defaults to display low-res previews of placed images. You need to explore InDesign's view options to preview in high resolution.

    Hi
I actually dont think its Lion (sorry i put that as couldn't remember) as not on that computer at the moment, its at home, I am at work. I know CS2 is compatable with whatever OS I am using because I can using CS2 indesign etc and I was able to use CS2 photoshop until I updated the Camino browser (I believe this is when it stopped working). I have CS5 but it wont work at all on my Powerbook G4.
I can send a message later with the OS I am using and maybe you can suggest other help? They told me in the MAC shop to try and get the installation discs. They also said I would be able to get these via Apple's 'media replacement programme' which I cannot find anyway! To be honest, I am not even sure getting the install discs will work but I'll try whatever I need to try and get Photoshop working on it again!
    Thanks

  • I've re-opened an InDesign CC document and the placed EPS logos now look bitmapped

I'm on Mac OS X 10.8.5. I'm used to InDesign CS3 and have had a little use of CS5.5. This is my first try of InDesign CC on a live job.
I've re-opened an InDesign CC document made last week and the placed EPS logos now look bitmapped. The same logo (used smaller) on another layer appeared OK. For the main logo, I tried to re-link them, it had no effect. Bringing them in again was no better. The EPS files are still in original folder, right beside the INDD files. I've tried to change settings in Prefs (File handling: Preview size up to 1024) and closed and re-opened INDD CC. Also, my CS4 saveback has the same fault when opened in CS5.5.
Nothing has worked, please advise cause and solution.

Just to note that the "Preview Size" is for viewing pages of your InDesign file in Adobe Bridge, you can choose to Preview None, 2 pages, or more pages in the settings, and choose the thumbnail size.
This is only for programs that can preview InDesign files, like Adobe Bridge.
The preference you should have changed is in the Preferences under Display performance and drag the "Vector Images" slider all the way to the right.

  • Can I use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with creative cloud photography?

I'm really confused by this subscription pricing. If I purchase the $9.99/month, do I get the full desktop app of Photoshop and Lightroom? But I see on this page Products they list something called Photoshop CC that costs twice as much. How is that different from the Creative Cloud Photography?
My main question is whether I can use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with Creative Cloud Photography, since I just purchased a bundle that includes these and I want to be able to use them. But I'd also like to understand what comes with all of the various products and how they are different.
My other question is how is Lightroom different from Photoshop? I have a sense of what you can do in Photoshop but I don't know much about Lightroom at all.
One more question: the free trial -- is it limited in any way besides the time length? If I do that, will I get a clear idea of all that I will be able to do once I subscribe, or are the functions limited in the trial?
I tried to just send an email to Adobe to ask these questions but apparently they are not interested in responding to emails from people who are not yet paying customers, so I was directed here. Thanks very much for your help!

I always like to trot this bit about Bridge once in a while or in the voice of the "Two Bobs" from Office Space,
"Can you tell us exactly what it is you do around here?"
    What Adobe Bridge does:
Bridge is the coordinating hub of the Creative Suite. Synchronizing color management settings for all suite programs is done from Bridge, and can only be done from Bridge, to take one important use.
Bridge displays actual thumbnails of many more file types than Finder or Explorer. It also allows instant play of sound or video files more readily than the native OS file managers.
Bridge allows direct access to file metadata, to embed copyright information  and keywords where appropriate (e.g., for corporate logo vector and raster files). It also displays the fonts used in an InDesign file, the swatches in an INDD or AI and the output plates (including spot color plates) they use.
When managing the assets for a design project, Bridge allows quick and simple sorting, rating and custom labeling (with color flash indications) of assets. I can rate images according to whether they are rejects, possibles, for review by client, or approved. The filters built into Bridge allow instant isolation of only the approved images or designs in a folder, only the rejects (for deletion) or only files with certain ratings, no matter how many files it contains. It recognizes aspect ratios, so if I only need a landscape or a 16:9 image in a folder of hundreds of images, I turn off the aspect ratios I don't need.
Once filtered, the remaining visible files can be selected and copied, moved, or deleted without affecting the rest of the contents of a folder.
Collections are a massively useful feature. One of my clients is a performing arts center, and in a season we turn out dozens of ads, flyers, brochures, web banners, playbills, billboards and other collateral using the same assets over and over. These assets are organized by artist and/or show on disk, but I set up each season's repeating assets as a Collection in Bridge, so that I just have to open the collection and drag and drop these assets into new INDD, AI, PSD, HTML (in Dreamweaver), FLA or AE projects without having to navigate from folder to folder picking up individual files.
Bridge's Favorites is another place I stack frequently-accessed folders, such as stock photography, backgrounds, and top-level folders for active projects.
Assets can be divided into subfolders, but a quick toggle of "Show items from subfolders" exposes all of the assets in a single view while maintaining their organization. I will typically keep AIs, PSDs, EPSs, stock photography and client images in separate subfolders within a project. When I'm ready to start pulling assets into an InDesign layout, I toggle this on and simply drag what I need into the layout.
Bridge comes with Adobe Camera Raw built in, which is many times faster than using Photoshop to adjust jpegs or tiffs for things like tonal range, white balance, cropping, spotting and sharpening, and is non-destructive.
One tremendously useful Bridge function for InDesign CS5+ users is the "Show linked files" feature, which opens all the linked files in a layout into a single view, regardless of where they are physically located. I often use this when doing alternative layouts from a client-approved mockup for a campaign, to be certain the same assets are used in each piece, or when creating a motion graphic or interactive piece for the campaign in After Effects or Flash.
The batch and image processing scripts built into Bridge automate things like creating web-ready small jpegs from multiple images, renaming large numbers of files in place or by copying to an alternative location, creating sets of PSD, png, jpeg or other file types from an assortment of image files, and so on.
Bridge is so much a part of my daily workflow that on my main workstation I have one monitor dedicated to it almost 100%. Bridge just sits open 24/7, ready for use. I would run at half speed without it, no question.

  • My Fonts change when opening an InDesign CS4 file with InDesign CS6

I've been experiencing strange behaviour when opening a InDesign CS4 file file with InDesign CS6: the kerning and spacing is all off:
    Original file:
    opened in InDesign CS6:
Is this a conversion error? Is there a setting/pref I've got wrong?

It's more than a year ago since this issue was reported, but at this time I'd had the same problem when opening a CS4 document in CS6/CC.
I was amazed that a header, placed in capitals, looked different in CS6/CC. But at last, after several tests, i've came to the conclusion that "forced" capitals behaving different than "real" capitals. In others words: when you forcing text to capitals the kerning would be different in CS6/CC. When you place text in real capitals (Shift + text) the kerning is the same as in both InDesign versions.
    Text in CS4:
As you can see: in CS4 there's no difference between real capitals en forced capitals.
Below the results when opening the CS4 file in CS6/CC:
I'm not sure if there are still people struggling with this problem, but hopefully was is this helpful.

  • Can I export text boxes in InDesign to a word processor

--  I need to take the text areas of our catalog proof and put them in a text document.  Been looking at all of the Export > options with no luck.  Haven't been able to just move them - don't really want to do a copy & paste of all of the text in each box -- would take too much time.  Tried exporting to pdf - but it wasn't editable - tried epub - got just BLACK -- tried snippets
Looking to hopefully choose multiple text boxes (not bother w/ the images) and either copy and paste in a document where the text could be edited.  Idea here is to edit copy from print catalog to make web optimized copy for each product.  Has anyone done something like this or heard of someone who has?
I have been able to, open indd file - highlight a page or section, save as a pdf.  Open in Acrobat and then Save As >  rich text, or Word doc - then I can delete out the images... .
Okay -- so I guess I'm looking for something more streamlined...  straight from the Indd. file to text.  Anyone have any cool ideas out there?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I'll check that out.  I did try something where it was going to export the 'stories' but I think what I got was all of the formatting markup too, it was useless to me, though I'm not positive how I got that.  LIke I said, I tried every export option.
I am using CS4 -- and its funny you should mention Buzzword, macinbytes, I just saw that while googling about Bridge as a possibility. Though we'll be upgrading to CS5 early next year (budgets and year-ends, you know!  : ),  I need to figure out some option and how this procedure is going to work as soon as I can.
Keep the ideas coming!  Someone has to know how to do this and done it!?  : )

  • How do i set up photoshop to open when i connect my iphone

It used to be when I connected my iphone to backup to my pc that photoshop would open to store new photos.  But since the last firmware update that does not happen.  What preference do i have to check so that it does that it opens photoshop again?

There might be a setting in the Photoshop program, I am not sure. If not, this might be what you are looking for.

  • How Open source Flex looks to a mid level developer

Here is my response to a post Matt made on a blog:
    THe whole post:
    http://blog.simb.net/2009/01/19/take-flex-back-for-the-community/
    @Matt
1st off thanks, now my input:
The crux of your criticism seems to be that the process that we use for decision-making is closed its certainly not how we feel
Unfortuntly, this seems like a case of bad commuication by Adobe and the Flex team. If notable community experts get the impression of closed doors, then *certainly* the rest of us get this impression as well.
but there has been very little participation from the community so far
Im a solid dev, and not an expert but I can contribute in things such as testing and low level optimization; But, the Adobe open source site is a galactic disaster and discourages me from getting invloved. It has so many webpages that just go around in circles - filled with text that is verbose, this frustrates me to a great deal. As opposed to somehting straight foreward like:
    http://framework.zend.com/download/latest
    or
    http://code.google.com/p/papervision3d/
Everything is here and easily notable. I avoid the seamingly endless pages and confusion. If I want to get to the Flex dev mailing list I have to register, then choose the lists, add the lists to my account. go though my account prefs read some directions.. then set up some other preferences..jeeeezzzz. If I want to submit a feature request I am directed to create another login for some Bug and Issue management? HUH? I thought I was submitting a featue request.
Right on papervisions google HOME page I see Getting started > Papervision3D Mailing List.
Next when I finially do get to Flex SVN, this trunk. is nothing like I have seen.what IS all this stuff and where do I go to learn about it? There are countless subfolders filled with things I vaguely understand and if I want to learn what it is. where do I go? Is there even a src folder?
    Here is a classic example.
    Flex trunk Read Me:
    http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/flex/sdk/trunk/README.txt
    vs.
    Zend Trunk Read me:
    http://framework.zend.com/svn/framework/standard/trunk/README.txt
*What* is the Flex team thinking with this?
I just spent 5 minutes or so twirling through all these SVN directories and Adobes website and I am clueless. I feel like the project is unessarily complex and disorganized - even if it isnt. This just convinced me to delete my Flex sdk bookmark on my SVN client.
Adobe just lost one potential contributor to Flex SDK.
We have another idea that were bouncing around that I hope to share in a week or two but wont get into now.
Saying stuff like this is what gives people the impression of closed. Why not post these ideas the Flex team has? Even if it is stupid or incomplete
    Thats the whole point.

Wow, thanks for your response. This is great.<br /><br />I now understand that I had a combination of prejudice and ignorance  <br />when regarding Adobe Open Source. Perhaps my ignorance on these  <br />particulars is something that other devs encounter ( that whole  <br />perception thing ).   I have chatted with people who consider the Flex  <br />SDK and Flex Builder... not the same... but fused together so much  <br />that it'd be just crazy to try and use one with out the other   When I  <br />mention using Flex without Flex Builder.... people get that glazed  <br />over look in their eyes....( FYI I'm a FDT man, but am keeping a close  <br />eye on the new Flex Builder )<br /><br />I'll use Zend as an example ( it's the best that I can come up with )  <br />but I feel like there is a difference between the open source  <br />framework and Zend Studio ( commercial software ). Anyway, I'm really  <br />excited about how you've responded to all this.  I have more ideas,  <br />but Ill sit on them and think it through and get ready for next weeks  <br />meeting.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Alan<br /><br /><br />On Jan 23, 2009, at 1:31 AM, Matt Chotin wrote:<br /><br />> A new message was posted by Matt Chotin in<br />><br />> General Discussion --<br />>  How Open source Flex looks to a mid level developer<br />><br />> I've delayed responding to this because frankly I'm not sure what to  <br />> say for much of it.  The first thing I have to point out is that  <br />> many of the things you mention are related to Flex Builder and not  <br />> the Flex SDK, which is the part that is open source. • How to run a Plugin, without opening Adobe indesign

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to run a plugin as a service or something like that...
What i want to do is,
I have written a plugin that can read texts from indd files & save them as .txt files.
now i want to put indd files in to a folder & once a new file comes to the folder, read that new file automatically  and save as txt.
for that I want to run the plugin, without opening the indd file.
I hope CS6 SDK support to do that.
Please let me know if anyone has any idea...
    Thanks.

    Hi Menan,
Thank you very much for your reply...
I'll explain you what my requirement is,
My final goal is to run the Indesign application(including my plugin) in a server &  put all indd files in to a location(ex.folder) &
once an indd file comes to that folder it'll be automatically read by Indesign application & save the extracted data in a separate location(ex.another folder) as tex files. then human interaction is not needed...
    My precsent problem is,
Can I read an indd file, without opening indd file in Indesign application (may be giving a path to a indd files included folder or some way like that).
    Currently,
first i open the Indesign Application -> Open the indd file(intended to be read) -> Run my plugin.
Now I Get the document with,
    IDocument* document = Utils<ILayoutUIUtils>()->GetFrontDocument();
    But what I want is,
while the Indesign application is running on a PC, if an indd file comes to a given location(folder) it to be read automaticaly without opening my pluging.
To do that My idea is,
      * Any time when the Indesign apllication is opend my plugin should automatically start running,
    * once a new file comes to a given location(folder) plugin shoud be automatically triggered & read the file.
Please help me with your ideas..
    Thanks.

  • Every page I open in Firefox looks cramped.

Every page I open in Firefox looks like the formatting is wrong. Even this page...the fields overlap. Particularly if it is a retail/shopping site, I can hardly read product descriptions or whatever because everything is on top of each other. Pictures, text, etc. I thought it might be the 'magnify' feature so I shrunk the size. Nope! just made it impossible to read and still cramped looking. The kicker is, none of this happens in Explorer. :-(. I hate Explorer and really would like to get this resolved. thanks for your help.

hello, please go through the solutions described in the [[Websites look wrong|websites look wrong]]-help article, it covers the most common issues that apply to the problem as you've described it. thnx

  • I've tried everything... My Macbook runs too slow w/ Photoshop CS3 open!!

I am a graphic designer. I work with multiple files at once, and these files are always high resolution and sometimes up to 24x24 inches in print size. I use version CS3. I feel as if when Photoshop is open, everything else hangs. The spinning wheel is always making an appearance. Programs often hang so much that they will no respond, including Photoshop, even when doing the simplest tasks.
I have plenty of hard drive space. I have 2GB of RAM. I have messed with the cache levels and amount of memory that Photoshop takes up. I have used iDefrag and several programs to free up space such as Monolingual and this other program, I can't remember the name, but it helps you to delete browser files like your history, cache, etc. I've deleted unused fonts, I've done so many things. Nothing seems to help.
When idle, Photoshop uses around 1.14 GB of real memory/1.95 GB of virtual memory. Is this common?
Firefox is using 83.55 MB of real memory/866.92 MB of virtual memory. I also always have Mail open (25 MB/460 MB) and some other programs like instant messaging programs and Text Edit. My Activity Monitor says I am using 1.98 GB of System Memory... wait a minute, that's almost all of my memory!!
I feel like I've been freeing up disk space but that is hardly my issue. My issue seems to be processor performance, or RAM. I think my issue is probably Photoshop, and not anything to do with my Mac.
Any advice, anyway?! Please help. Thanks!!

I live in photoshop...on a dual G5 2.5 desktop with a dedicated 4x raptor raid as the scratch/save disk. I bought a 2.6 17" macbook pro maxed at 4gb ram...for travel.... and that is where I am as I write this... I tuned in to see how best to optimize my traveling system. I upgraded to CS3 immediately before departure, mostly because of the intel processors in the macbook. I have a fw800 500gp 7200 rpm maxtor as scratch/save disk. I could increase the speed of my external by switching to a lower capacity 150gb raptor, but the speed doesn't increase enough to make it worth it without raid. I could carry a dual hd scratch and raid them across fw or a eSata espress card...but I am so spoiled by my desktop raid at 300gb/sec, that it may not be significant a significant difference on a mobil settup. I am typically running up against the 2gb save limit because of 50ish layered files in high rez....so I feel your pain Justin. I've been comparing speeds for various photoshop operations on my current project file in both cs2 and cs3. There is a significant jump in speed for processor intensive things (like file rotation), though mostly it appears to be a 30% speed boost for the native ps version in cs3.
Justin... off the top of my head....I'd recommend processor speed first...then max your ram (4gb is better than the 3gb models because more and because matched pairs is more efficient, then go for an internal 7200 rpm drive in your macbook pro (if you don't already have one). No matter what, a fast 7200, or 10k external fw800 or eSata scratch/save drive. My experience is that if the external scratch drive fails for any reason, photoshop hangs and you lose it all since the last save. No way out.
I was hoping to find optimization specs for macbook users on the forum, or a link to an adobe document. Anyone know where that might be?
    Thanks for any help
    Dave

  • Editing Photoshop CS6 file using InDesign CS6

I need to edit a Photoshop CS6 file using InDesign CS6. Specifically, I am editing a business card and want to make changes to the layered components (for example: changing color hues, changing logo, changing fonts) and I know nothing about InDesign. Can anyone give me some pointers?

The thing is, I don’t have Photoshop or Illustrator; I only have InDesign CS6 and I want to do the following:
    Deepen the colors
Swap the logo for another one
    Change the font
I am not able to access the layers because I used the place function to insert the jpeg file in the InDesign document. I remember once being able to access the layered document, but I don't remember how. I tried opening the Photoshop file using InDesign, but it doesn't come up as a readable file.

  • Acrobat 8 Launches when opening an InDesign file

I have recently upgraded to Acrobat 8 Pro and Indesign CS3.
Everytime I try to open an InDesign file by 2x clicking on it, Acrobat launches alongside Indesign, and Acrobat throws up an error message. How can I get this to stop? And why is this happening?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I have had this exact problem for like 6 months and have just dealt with it, but it's really starting to drive me crazy.
Double clicking on all INDD files launches Indesign AND then Acrobat. Acrobat gives me two error dialogs which I then "OK", and then I'm able to switch to Indesign and work on the file. Dragging-n-dropping the files direct into Indesign or Opening through Indesign works fine. I've also noticed Indesign does not offer up the usual "open recents" in the file menu.
Acrobat and Photoshop are the only CS3 apps that appear in the "Open With>Choose Program" dialog, and browsing to the Indesign executable does not fix anything. The indd files even display the correct [ID] icon.
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.1
Adobe Web Premium CS3 (which I believe technically the Acrobat install is from)
Adobe Indesign CS3 5.0.1 (bought separately from Web Premium)
I'm sure it's probably more of a Windows issue than Adobe, but any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I tried to "repair" the Acrobat installation but that didn't help. Reinstalling all my Adobe apps is something I would like to avoid if possible.
