  • Save for web&.... the image exceeds the size for ....issue with AI on imac i7

    Hi,
I just upgraded from using macbook Pro to Imac inte core i7 with 4GB. I use illustrator CS3 for high resolution documents i.e saving a Design for say maybe saving for iphone &ipod skin; a quality jpg that is 1300px(width) by 2000px(height.
    General information
The issue is I keep getting the pop up with:
The image exceeds the size Save for Web was designed for. You may experience out of memory erros and slow performance. Are you sure you want to continue?
I click yes, but get another pop up with:
Could not complete this operation. The rastarized image exceeded the maximum bounds for save for web.
And last weekend after NOT being able to save anything I went and bought 16GB memory thinking that this ussue would be solved, but nada.
I have researched around here and google only to find about scratch disk: went to preferences then to plug-ins and scratch Disks -I seem NOT to get to the bottom of this at all.
And this morning I was trying to create a pattern Design and could not even get the design on the color swatches as I have done before with macbook pro with 4GB -IT'S NOT FUN, because I am NOT doing it right. Do you care to help me out?
Thanks a whole bunch in advance

Are you including a color profile?  What metadata are you including with it?
    How many pixels (h x v)?
50 kb is not all that big.  Does your image have a lot of detail in it?  Content can affect final compressed size.

  • The image exceeds the size Save for Web & Devices was designed for

I just upgraded from CS3 to CS5. I assumed that Save for Web & Devices would have been redesigned so that it would not complain with modern large photos that they were just too big!
However, it still does. I just don't get this. Photoshop in general now is editing very large images. It should be able to handle them also in this feature.
Is this just a legacy message, or is it really true that this feature can only handle small images?

    Thanks for your comments, Marian.
As a book publisher, now an iOS app publisher also, it is not clear to me how you discern what Adobe intended for Save for Web and Devices. They don't  tell us much. If you have found more details, please point me to them.
I dig and dig in the documentation, and nowhere see guidance as to its purpose and limitations. I wish there were more. The options and tools in it seem very good for taking an image you use for print, and making a web or iPhone version--better than I find in other tools. Apart from the warning, it sure looks like a general purpose resizing/optimization tool. I would like to know more from Adobe about what Save for Web actually does to my images in this process. Perhaps other tools would be better for images destined for devices such as the iPhone/iPad, rather than the web.
As far as we're concerned, the only issue is that Save for Web doesn't cope well with large files. There are ways to deal with that. Adobe has provided us all with some truly great tools in CS, but perhaps have neglected this corner a bit. Thanks for pointing me to workarounds. They're more awkward, but will get us there.
For my part, I mostly just ignore the warning, use Save for Web, and get my web/device images. Perhaps some day Adobe will tweak Save for Web and make it into the great general purpose tool it could be. In the meantime, they could at least put a 'don't show this message again' checkbox in the warning as Scott Falkner suggests.

  • Error message - image exceeds size save for web was designed for

When I try to Save to Web in Illustrator CS3, I get the following error message: "the image exceeds the size save for web was designed for". Even when I click that I want to go ahead and save it, it sends another error that reads "could not complete this operation. the rasterized image exceeded the maximum bounds for Save for Web".
Earlier in the day yesterday, I saved for web with no issue. NOw, it doesn't matter how small my design is, it is giving this error.
    Please advise.

    > So in CS3 Save for Web grabs the Artboard, neither the artwork nor the Crop Area/Marks area?
Creating a new document using "Basic RGB Document" and then "Save for Web & Devices" crops either to the artboard or to the artwork as selected from the "image size" tab in the save-for-web window.
If your artwork extends beyond the artboard, selecting "clip to artboard" will obviously eliminate everything outside the artboard. Unchecking it will crop the image to the artwork in the file (and thankfully not any artwork that is hidden).
If you make crop marks in the file, you can choose to either clip to the artboard or not. Not will clip to the crop marks, acting as kind of a secondary artboard.
    ETA:
You can choose which type of on-screen file type you want your output to be. From GIF, JPG, PNG-8, PNG-24, SWF, SVG, and WBMP. And whether or not you want transparency in those formats that support it.

  • Photoshop crashes when I try and save for web and devices. Making the image size smaller does not help.

I'm trying to make a lopping .gif from an animation that I made. It's 147 total frames. It's crashed about 6 times now every time I either try and Save for Web or even just save the document on my desktop so in case it crashes I can reopen PS and recover it. Making the image size smaller (original size is 1920 x 1080 with resolution 72) does not help, it still makes the *ding* error when I attempt to save. I made the image more than half of the original size and the Save for Web box actually came up that time, but when I tried clicking save it said there was an error and PS crashed without warning.

Look at the crash report for your Photoshop crashes see what they show

  • Slicing image issue when using "save for web"

Keep in mind I am a newbi to photoshop and these forums. I am currently having an issue with using the slice tool when trying to save the image in html format. I have my image completed and when I use the  "save for web" feature, it comes up just fine. Then I click the slice tool on the tool bar on the left, and try to drag over the area that I want to slice and it wont work. Currently, every time I try to use the save for when feature, the new box pops up and shows my image with a 1 and a symbol on the top left of the image like the whole image is already made into a slice. The only thing I can do is left click and hold to drag the transparent box to where I want to slice the image, and when I let go, the image does not slice. Any help would be great!

Completely wrong workflow. See the online help on the slice tool.

  • Terrible image quality when using Save for Web in Adobe Illustrator CS6

When saving images of any format and of any ppi using "Save for Web", "round" corners become blurred and pixel , "acute" (vertical and horizontal) angles are clear and of good quality. Reinstalled system with the hope that the cure (Windows 7 64-bit) - has not helped. Up to this point, such a problem did not face, all was well. How can i deal with this?

You are not really making sense.
    a) Viewing images at more than 100% in any viewer will introduce resampling from image to screen space. Different tools use different algorithms, but none of them will ever be perfectly "sharp". Again, simple mathematics.
    b) JPEG is a compressed format that will never produce "sharp" lines in areas that don't coincide with the underlying block compression. If you wanted that, you'd use PNG or other formats.
So unless you can provide screenshots that illustrate your issue better at 100% zoom, I see nothing out of the ordinary here. Of course there could be all sorts of issues liek color space conversion or odd pixel sizes causing unfavorable distribution of compression blocks, but we realyl cannot judge any of that based on teh info you provided. Just saying that something doesn't look like you experct it to isn't really helping...

  • Actions and Save for Web

I have tried to research this on my own searching the forum and asking users far more advanced than I am to no avail. I thought it might be possible that someone here would know whether what I want is feasible.
I use the "Optimize to file size" feature in the Save For Web Panel constantly. I am planning on doing a large amount of conversions in the near future (by which I mean resaving .jpegs at a certain dimension and resolution. As far as the dimension and resolution go, there is no difficulty creating an action to do that. But the icing on the cake for me is have them all processed through Save for Web at a certain file size (for the sake of argument, say 500K). Yes, I know that the resulting images will vary in quality (obviously) because the end result will very much depend on their file size to begin with but that is not an issue for me for my purposes.
Save for Web has various presets and allows you to save presets; however, it does not allow you to save the Optimize to file size as a preset. When I try to record an action, and go to the Save for Web, use the Optimize etcetera, the action created lists the quality of the image I process to record the action. So, for example, if my image is less than 500K, the quality recorded in the action is 100. If my image exceeds 500K, the quality might be 86 and that is what the action records. For whatever reason, what is recorded is the quality rather than the 500K. I am not sure if this is being written clearly enough to explain. I want every image to end up being 500K regardless of what the final quality is (quality being the difference between the original image and the image as saved by Save for Web). But actions are saving the attribute of quality rather than file size.  Sigh. I think I am just repeating myself trying to make it clear but probably failing. In case a screen shot helps clarify, here it is. If this can't be done, I would love to know that so I can give up trying.

I want every image to end up being 500K regardless of what the final quality is (quality being the difference between the original image and the image as saved by Save for Web).
You may have to resort to Scripting for this task … it may need a fairly convoluted approach but I think it has come up before, so someone may be able to help you over at

  • PS CS6 action save for web error

In Photoshop CS6 actions when we save the image as JPEG through save for web it doesn't work when we run it, instead it runs and saves the image as HTML, i guess some error in it. I tried it again and again but it doesn't remember my save for web settings and saves the images as HTML.

It a new bug in CS6 though when you recorded the action you saved jpeg images to you desktop and you only entered file names onto the save for web action steps the action recorder recorded name.html.  I replaced you save for web steps on my machine for my desktop and CS6 recorded  name.html.  I then did the same with CS5 though I only entered names CS5 recorded name.jpg.
If you expand the export steps tou will see the hard coded file names and extention
An action like this will always save the same files it can not be batch because you recorded Path and Names in the save for web steps.  The .html files saved on with CS6 are actually jpeg files and if you rename them hrom name.html to name.jpg you can use them,

  • Issues With Save For Web CS6

I'm having some issues with my file when trying to Save For Web. A band of transparency appears above my image even though I have everything cropped to the artboard, and the artboard is exactly the size I want the final image to be. If I uncheck "Clip to Artboard" the band of transparency disappears from the top, but reappears on the right side. It seems as if the artboard area is calculated differently in the Save For Web screen; its slightly off. I've included some images so you can see the issue.
Trying to save for web as a .png with "Clip To Artboard" selected; a tiny (one pixel tall?) band of transparency on the top of the image.
Trying to save for web as a .png without "Clip To Artboard" selected; the image seems to shift and the band of transparency appears on the right size. Also some of the pieces of the image appear on the bottom outside of the artboard.
I made sure to crop each element of my image to fit exactly on the artboard. Previously, I had made sure to use a clipping mask exactly the size of the artboard and still had these issues. I would like my .png to not have a band of transparency. It has the same issue when I change it to .jpg, but instead has a white matte band. What am I doing wrong, or is this just an issue with Illustrator? Thanks in advance!

Depending on your use of the image in context, won't the transparent strip "disappear?"
The only solution I know is to open it in Photoshop and manually crop out the transparent strip. AI or Save for Web also seems to antialias the edge of free-standing art over a transparent background. I just make the artwork slightly larger than the final cropped size, save for web, then crop in Photoshop.

  • I am using photoshop cc 2014.2 And when I use save for Web it gives me a dialog box that says it is using Latin characters I've never seen this before. Does anyone have an answer for this problem or do I need to go back to the older version of Photoshop.

I'm using Photoshop cc 2014.21 I you save for Web and dialog box comes up that says that Photoshop is using Latin characters and that servers cannot recognize Latin characters in webpages and you may have trouble viewing these pages does anyone have an answer for this problem?

What Firefox version is currently installed on the computer?
You can find the full version of the current current Firefox release (37.0.2) in all languages and all operating systems here:
If you have a very old Firefox version then you could consider to uninstall that version to clean up existing registry keys (especial the uninstall key).
Make sure NOT to remove "personal data" when you uninstall Firefox, because that will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Check the Firefox program folder and remove the Firefox program folder if there are still files left in it.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

  • When I save for web and device in Illustrator, I see all the pixels... What is wrong?

I have created a vector image. When I save for web and device in Illustrator, the image does not come out clear even if I'm saving the image the same size as the artboard. I can see the coutours (pixels)... I've opened the file on another computer and everything is perfect. What is wrong on my computer?
I have reinstalled the program and did all the updates. What else can I try?
    Thank you!

So that you know next time that option is no longer available so to speack it is now under a dropdown wiht the default none then Type Optimized or Art Optimized in CS 5 and operhaps CS 4 as well

  • File Save for Web = Error: The operation could not be completed.

Installed photoshop CS6 trial Version 13.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate running in hyper-v virtual machine.  Created a small image and clicked File Save for Web.  This produced the error dialog "Error: The operation could not be completed."
I tried the following trouble shooting steps:
    1. deleted the preferences
    2. created a new user
    3. re-installed both the operating system and photoshop
    4. looked for permission issues
    5. monitored procmon.exe to look for unusual errors
I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but it simply does not work.

    ELEMENTS 12 AND ELEMENTS 13
Upgraded to 13 Thinking might resolve the issue.
Was working fine up until we had "Tech" come in the office and "up grade some stuff"
then all of a sudden i started getting this message, something happened but i don't have a clue what.

  • Ps 3d and filters and save for web are not working the way they should

At work we just put cs6 on a w7 machine running 64 bit which has more than that required mem and or ram to run cs6 - unfortunately I have to use a windows based machine at work (cheapskates). Anyways. I see the 3d menus and the filter menu in PS but they aren't funtional. The filter menu drop down is there but Liquify is the only one that shows up the rest are gray. The option to choose 3d is also there but they are not functional (grayed out) - I took a look at some online tutorials on using the 3d effect in PS CS6 and Ive gone through it a few times and it still won't work for me. Also, in illustrator when I save for web - when I adjust the pixel dimensions and move the mouse over and click on the image that I am saving for web nothing happens and I'm completely boggled about how to get the image size to change in the save for web pane. Typically I am used to being able to input the the number into the pixel dimenion field and click on the image and the image resizes (on a mac you can either click on the image or hit return and the image will resize in front of your eyes!). I am unable to get this to work the way I am used to, this happens for me in both ill5 and ill6 on this piece of crap windows machine. Maybe I just need to reinstall? Maybe adobe has changed the way this works? Maybe a sledge hammer into this windows machine would solve all my problems!? IDK. someone help... help me... pleeeeaaaaaaaaaaasssseeeee

unfortunately I have to use a windows based machine at work (cheapskates).
This gets a "stupid comment of the day" medal. Seriously. These days Macs are just as convoluted and effed up as Windows was a few years ago - nice as long as everything works, but god forbid you have a problem. So by all means, update your graphics driver and be glad that you actually have that choice rather than having to wait half a year for Apple to fix it...

  • Colour issue with 'Save for Web' - Photoshop Elements 6 (Mac)

Cross posted here, but no answer so far. Sorry for cross posting. For me, this is urgent, but I know it's not for anyone else, so apologies for putting 'urgent'.
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/images-graphic-design-digital-photography/150670-colour-i ssue-save-web-photoshop-elements-6-a.html#post840419
This is a similar issue to this:
    Save for web color issue
Except the user who posted the above was using photoshop cs3, and I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.
When I work on a photo, I get it just right, then go to Save for Web, and the original it previews is loads lighter than the orginal I was working on in the first place. See 'Picture 1' attachment.
I have changed the colour settings on the Save for Web options - I've chosen each one in turn, and none fix the problem.
There seems to be no similar option in PSE6 to this that fixed it in CS3:
IN the save for web box there is a small round button with an arrow in it (near the Done button).
In the list when this button is pressed deselect Convert to sRGB
I used to use PSE2 on a PC, and never had this problem. I didn't need to mess about with colour profiles or anything similar on the PC. The original was the original, not a washed out version of the original. Why spend ages getting the file just right, only for Save for Web to screw it up?
Any advice to fix this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks very much for your reply.
    I've uploaded the images here:
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 1.jpg
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 2.png
I deleted the prefs. file you suggested, and then opened PSE6.
I then tried the profile setting you suggested - but it's not an option:
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 3.png
I tried 'remove profile' just in case that worked, but the same effect happens on Save for Web.
Not sure what to try next!
    Thanks
