Photoshop to Flash Catalyst .... why png and not jpg?

Hi,
I've imported my artwork from a photoshop file and created my project.
I'm amazed at how large the file has turned out.
One reason I can see is that everything that has been imported into FC from Photoshop has been saved as a png file.
For example I have a panning scroll panel image, which is 700k as a png and 150k as a jpg.
So no competition to which I should use!
Is there away to set the import correctly at the first stage rather than what I have to do now is resave all the assets as jpgs and in the project replace the images. doh!

I think the choice between jpgs and pngs is about image quality and Adobe decided to err on preserving quality vs. file size. They did not want people to import their PS file into FC and see jpg artifacts and blame FC for it. Flash Catalyst has some opmitization features that might help in the file size reductions. In silk the US version gives you the opportunity to enable or disable flash, it doesn't exist in the UK one. Speaking to amazon.com they can't understand why it's not there but speaking to amazon.co.uk they say kindle doesn't support flash. Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Found out last night that i couldnt watch a live stream confetence because i couldnt download the flash player. why does apple not allow to do that and is there an alternative way other than flash player?

In the future, there won't be any Flash. Adobe, who makes it, has cancelled future versions for mobile devices like the iPad:

You should check if there is another way to get the live stream. For example, I sometimes watch online classes on a site that uses Flash for the video. But they also provide a non-Flash video stream that can be watched in an iPhone or iPad web browser, and an iOS app that you can also use to watch the stream.

Save as png and not psd setting?

hi all,
i am a long time user but have not spent enough consistent time to avoid some very bad habits. i thought i would take some time to see if i can fix some of these. apologies for the multiple posts today.
anyway, i am sometimes in a situation where i need to save images as png at a certain size or something for a website (or just because i like to save out as png) and in many cases i am not using any optimizations in psd files.
is there a way to have photoshop default to Save As png?
right now i think i have to do a pulldown every time i want a png and when i am trying to do some kind of "batch processing" i am getting a bit of carpal tunnel with all my clickthroughs.
also, any tips on where to read up on optimizations or built in batch functionality in photoshop would be great. i have been using Preview for the mac and some of the functionality there (convert all to png, resize all to XX etc, etc) is really, really great.

Ifanview will let you batch convert to PNG. I've not actually used it in that respect, so can't say what options you get, but it usually does a stand out job of everything, and it's free. Windows only AFAICT

Flash Catalyst installs, but does not launch...

Downloaded and installed Flash Catalyst Beta 2 for Mac, but it fails to launch. I get the splash page logo, the OS X says that it's not responding. I've tried uninstalling, re-installing, restarting. Help?

My CR2 files are being saved as PNG and not PSD

When I import files into Elements 12 Organizer, I want to use the Instant Fix Smart Fix option. The CR2 files are being exported to the PNG format, and I want them to be PSD files, I don't have a way to return to the options of how to save my files by using the Instant Fix button. I really would appreciate some help on this. I can't seem to get any tech support by navigating the Adobe Web site - I always land in the Forums.

In PSE12, whenever I want to use the smart fix option in the organizer for a raw file, I get a dialog with various format options and the possibility to check one of those formats by default. If I check the checkbox to always use that format and not to display the menu, I find myself in the same situation as yours.
I don't know of a way to get the menu back... Deleting the organizer preferences should help, unless other users have a better idea.

Why 512mb and not 1

Why will my computer only recognize the Zen Nano Plus 52mb mp3 player and not the gig model? Have tried everything. Even updating the firmware on the gig, but it never becomes recognized properly. Anyone?

I just got the Zen Nano Plus gig for Christmas. i am having the exact same problem. I also downloaded the new drivers, but did no good. It will recognize my unit as a nano when i plugg it in, but when i go to the control panel under hardware, it says it in "UnSupported" I have tried everything. Did the sane as cadman. I removed all software and started all over again. There has to be an answer. i am somewhat PC savy, but this one has me!
I forgot to mention, when i load the software i get this message that "Moti've Monitor Service has encountered a problem and needs to close" and then i get the MS message that it closed and if i want to send MS the message. Not sure if that means anything.

Why VPLS and not L3 VPNs ???

Please bare with me, i know a lot has been written about what VPLS is, I have read the postings, but maybe someone can in simple terms answer my qn for me;
Why should one go for VPLS and not L3 VPNs or L3 VPNs and not VPLS, i need arguments from both the enterprise point and the ISP point

VPLS:
+No need to involve the ISP for routing issues
+Support non-IP protocols - IPX, AppleTalk etc..
-Difficult to troubleshoot
-Possible to make a L2-loop
-Customers could overflow mac-tables.
L3-VPN:
+ISP control the routing process - or the customer could control the CE-PE, and control it's own routing.
+Loops are avoided with routing-protocols
-Non-IP protocols have to be encapsulated to work
Personally I liked the VPLS best before, but after choosing an ISP supporting PE-CE-protocols, not using static's and has a good support centre, I always recommend L3VPN's.
Also within our own MPLS-network we always use L3. (with no 7600's VPLS is not supported...) EoMPLS is not used permanently used within out MPLS, but could be used for moving a customer from one datacenter to another, or other special timelimited purpose...

Why SDK and not just JRE

Hi,
I am amazed that for just running a Java application one needs the Java SDK and not the runtime environment only.
Has Oracle got shares with hard disk manufacturers ?

The reason to require a JDK or our bundled jre+tools.jar is for the plsql debugger. The debugger use the jdi apis which are not included in the stock jre. If you never intend on using the plsql debugger you can use a jre and everything else will run just fine.

Why does a flash show in IE and not Firefox?

The flash on the website wrrp.org does not show in Firefox and the copyright statement shows in the middle of the page when using Firefox.

There is only object code with a classid for IE and no code for Firefox. Firefox ignores code with a classid.

Flash works in IE and not Firefox

Hello All,
Below is a piece of html code I am using to view an embeded
flash movie. As you can see the file is located on my hard drive -
this (the .swf file on the hard drive) is being used to simulate
content that will eventually be placed on a CD. Also the code is an
html page that is part of a Java program that uses
"continue"servlets to advance to other pages. I am able to view all
flash files that are located on the server with both IE6 and
Firefox 1.5.0.4. The problem exists when I get to the page
referenced below I am able to view the movie problem free in IE.
However, FireFox wants no part of playing the movie when I get to
the page. I can however view the movie if I open the page directly
with firefox.

I have tried numerous methods in trying to solve this and I
am now at the end of my rope in tryiong to figure this out. So fare

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure if your having the same problem I did, but my
flash file was doing the same thing. It would play in one but not
the other. It ended up being the fact that I had changed the file
name but hadn't changed the name in the html.
I can't remember which is which, but I think the embed tag is
for IE and the object tag is for everything else. The file source
must be exactly the same within both tags for fire fox and IE to
play the file.
