Photoshop too small on windows 8.1

This seems to be the problem with a lot of things on Windows 8 (another example is Origin and Wacom Tablet Properties).
I was just wondering if Adobe had plans to fix this in the future or if there is by chance and active way to fix it now.

Your resolution must be enormous. I'm using Windows 8.1 Update at 1920x1080 on 23" monitors. I use the large font size (via Edit > Preferences > Interface > Text) but that, of course, won't help with the icons.

  • "The data area passed to a system call is too small." Windows 8

I am not a developer - thus many comments do not make sense to me, as I'm just a heavy user. Today, about a year and half after beginning to use Windows 8, hyperlinks in my emails return the error "The data area passed to a system call is too small."
Can you give a layperson (i.e. simple - is it fixable and can I fix it?) answer to this error? If I copy and paste the URL into my IE 10 browser, it works. However, this takes more time than I usually can afford given how often I use email links to continue
    my work.
Here's a picture of the error message:

  • Course displays in too small a window once it's in LMS

We're having a problem with our Captivate courses where, once
we've uploaded them to our LMS (GeoLearning) and launched them,
they launch in a window that is too small and can't be manually
resized or maximized. The window is about 30% too small, and scroll
bars display, forcing you to either scroll or zoom out. We even
tried publishing with "Full Screen" selected. Nothing works.
The LMS folks told us that Captivate uses code that the LMS
doesn't recognize. They gave us code for us to manually paste into
the generated htm file that basically forces the browser window to
display at a certain size (we chose the same size as our project:
1014x713). However, this doesn't work. The window looks the same as
it did without the code. I've e-mailed them for further assistance,
but I was hoping that maybe someone on this forum could shed some
light on this problem. I find it hard to believe that Captivate
    doesn't play well with LMSs.
Has anyone else had problems with their courses launching in
browser windows that are too small and can't be resized once
they're in an LMS? If so, what, if anything, were you able to do to
fix it? This is a pretty serious problem. At this point, it looks
like the only thing we'll be able to do is tell our students they
have to zoom out to 75% to be able to see the entire screen. Or,
maybe we need to resize our projects, except we don't have time to
do that now. We're launching our new LMS and courses in about 10
days, and that's not enough time to resize the project and then
tinker with the placement of objects on the screen.
If anyone has any ideas, I appreciate your help! :( I'm going
home now! Have a great weekend.
    Lisa

Lisa, I am certain that this is a LMS problem, not a
Captivate problem, and encourage you to keep after the LMS company
for help. But if I were you, I would immediately start creating
smaller Captivate projects. The size you mentioned is humongous by
any standards I've ever heard, and it occurs to me that perhaps it
(they) is/are so large that the size falls outside acceptable
parameters for the LMS. Just a thought ...
I'm just rambling now so feel free to skip this but if it
makes you feel better - and I know it won't - I once worked for a
web-application designer who created his company's application to
    be run
only at 1024x768 or larger. When I pointed out that nearly
all our customers were still using video cards supporting 800x600
(maximum), his simplistic reply was that I should tell them to
upgrade their equipment. He was a complete idiot.
I have never seen a program that couldn't be designed to run
fine in 800x600 and that would alleviate your problem (yeah, I know
there might be exceptions, but I've never seen a legitimate one
except those that are designed only for pod-casting).

  • Photoshop CS6 Menus and Icons too small on Windows 8.1 with 4K UHD display

    Hello,
So I have seen that I am not the first one to ask this question, but I have yet to find any true resolutions.  I recently bought anew laptop, a Lenovo with a 4K UHD display which I already love for so many things.  But, like a few other programs, the high resolution means the icons and menu text of PS CS6 are incredibly small, which may be alright on a TV, but on a laptop screen, it make it incredibly difficult to work.  I have tried all sorts of different approaches in Windows, such as changing the OS font sizes and icon sizes, which do indeed change everything else on the computer, but PS is still the same tiny size.  I have also increased the text size under the interface preferences to large, but with little real change.  I understand why this is happening, but I am hoping that there is some sort of workaround, beyond just bumping down my screen resolution, which defeats the whole purpose of using UHD to edit photos.  I have heard rumors of being able to code in some UI changes manually, but have found no concrete examples of how to actually do that.
I am sure that it would not take Adobe too much time and effort to create an update to help with scaling, but they are very set on pushing forward with Creative Clound, leaving the rest of us loyal customers to the dust until we pay up.  If anyone has found any resolutions or workarounds, I'd really appreciate it.  Thank you.

Well other than that, I can't offer anything else as a forum volunteer. I have no idea if anything, what Adobe plans to do for CS6.
I do know that Photoshop CC 2014 has a 200% ui feature for Windows and you might like the Photography Plan which for $10 monthly includes Photoshop CC 2014 and Lightroom for $10/month.
You can trial CC 2014 to see if it does solve your situation

  • Display area is too small on windows with bootcamp

My 1920x1080 display is shrunk (appears small with a black border around it) on windows with bootcamp, but looks fine on the mac side.
I'm going from the macpro display port converted to hdmi and plugged into the hdmi plug on a dell P2413T monitor which has a resolution of 1920x1080.
I'm using bootcamp with windows 7 home premium. Radeon 5870 card
All my ati drivers are updated. I took the time to update them all.  The dell drivers are updated also.
The monitor looks great on the mac side. On the pc side it is shrunk so there is a black border of 3/4 inch or so around the edges. It also looks odd.
How do I resolve this. Is it a problem with the hdmi connector, the graphics card, bootcamp, windows?

There are overscan/underscan settings in OSX for 1080p displays.

  • Font and Icon size are too small on windows 8.1 computer.

I have a windows 8.1 computer with a 64 bit operating system with the most up to date version of Adobe CS6 and a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.  When I open CS6 the font and icons are minescule and I cannot fix it by adjusting the screen resolution.  Is there a way to correct this?

Have you tried setting the resolution to 1366 x 768?
I know it defeats the purpose of having a HiDpi screen, but Photoshop CS6 was released when such displays were not common.
Photoshop  CC 2014 has an experimental 200% UI scale for such PCs, but it is a $10 a month subscription to the Photography Plan. You can trial it out to see if you can use it.

The entire Captivate 8 screen to too small. How do I enlarge the entire window? All icons and thumbnails are 1/4 the size they should be. Using Windows 8.1.

It looks like it is an issue between Adobe and Microsoft. (Many Adobe programs are responding this way to Windows 8 and 8.1)
I am posting this to try and get some (ANY) ideas/feedback...but to also bring it to the Captivate Community attention. I hope the Captivate Staff is aware of this issue.

there are many many more out there......
I tried this first, it comes with Windows and changes your display properties by application: (but it didn't work)
The program above basicly edits these settings (you can get to these by right clicking on the exe application) I tried many combos, an even tried them under the "change for all users" setting.....NADA!
I have tried editing the Windows display settings: (all screen shots below are with this setting size)
The screenshot below is at 250%. It does not make any difference in the application (check out the menu bar, properties, icons....) If I go over 150% I lose dialog box space...the buttons disappear! If I keep it at 150% the words "Advanced Actions" at the top of the dialog box shrinks slightly, enough to fit the buttons in...) I showed the difference using snag it (12 pt arial compared to the appearance of the UI ~ 4 pt.) This is so hard to see! Same issue in some of the other adobe applications. (fyi...they are all up to date)
    Photoshop = same problem
    Dreamweaver = working fine
    Flash = working fine
Premier Pro = half working....(menubar is ok but everything else is real small)
    Muse = not working

OOF! Well, any thoughts anyone? I appreciate any and al feedback and ideas!!!

  • Photoshop CS6 on windows 8.1: police of toolbar is too small

I have just installed Adobe Creative Suite Standard CS6 on a new PC (Windows 8.1, display 3200x1800).
Installation was OK but when I open Photoshop or Illustrator, the toolbars appears very very small, unusable...
If I go into the PC display settings and change the resolution it will change the size of the icones but when clicking on them to launch Photoshop or Illustrator, the problem still remains the same...
    Thanks for any help...

Trevor there is a fix for windows user the external manifest files and registry update works well.
Adobe 2x UI does not work well for CC 2014 users and does not exist for other versions of Photoshop.    The 2x UI preference in CC 2014 does not work well on my surface pro 3. Basically when you use the 2x UI preference Adobe uses your display at half resolution.  So the surface pro 3  216 PPI display is use as 108 PPI display resulting in a 2x magnification. So the  Surface Pro display pixel count goes from 2160x1440 to 1080x720 which does not meet Photoshop  minimum 1024x768 requirement. So Photoshop default UI does not fit on the display  using 2x UI. Users that use the 2x preference on 4K display makes them into 1K displays 1920x1080.  Photoshop UI fits on screen however user feel that the 2x UI magnification is  too much and the pixel count dropping down to 1k is a big loss.
With the registry update and external manifest file all versions of Photoshop can use Microsoft Windows Display scaling.  Microsoft for the  Surface pro 3 has four presets 100% 2160x1440  216 PPI,   125%  1728x1153  173 PPI, 150% 1440x960 144PPI and like Adobe's 2x UI 200%  1080x720 108ppi.   The 150% magnification works quite well on the Surface pro 3 and Photoshop UI fits on the screen.
When is come down to it Adobe's Photoshop UI was designed for use with a mouse.   It was not designed for touch and because of that it is not touch friendly at any magnification.  Only touch gestures work well for they are use in the large image windows.   Without magnification on high resolution displays even using a pen for selecting UI option is not a good experience using a mouse works better.  IMO without a major overhaul Photoshop UI is not suitable for touch finger use.  A touch UI design is needed.for finger use.
Using Photoshop on a high resolution Display without a keyboard is not a pleasant experience its nothing you want to attempt.  On youtube I found a touchkey utility that you can design touch overlay keyboards you can place over applications like Photoshop  display tailored to make the application useable via touch.  Still a UI designed for touch would be better.

  • Photoshop icons too small in PS CS5 installed on Windows 7.

I have just installed my copy of Photoshop CS5 onto my Windows 7 running as a virtual machine in Parallels on a new 13" MacBook Pro.
The icons down the left hand side and menu items across the top are far too small to be used comfortably.
I see this problem discussed on a number of Adobe related forums but no solutions.
Do Adobe have a fix yet?
Edited to say 13" not 17" MacBook.

Thanks, Mylenium, for letting me know.  I suspected as much simply because I couldn't find an answer on any of the forums where people are complaining about this.
I must say I am less than chuffed (British understatement) about this.  Adobe are nothing less than an absolute disgrace.
I bought Photoshop CS5 extended for £365 just less than three years ago and it's now more or less useless: certainly difficult to use anyway.
I shall be looking for an alternative and it almost certainly won't be supplied by Adobe.
Strangely enough my very old copy of Dreamweaver works fine running on the Mac.  Hey ho.

  • The video tutorial window that shows when photoshop is launched is TOO SMALL. Can it be maximized??

The "Welcome" window that opens when PS CC 2014 is launched show the option to playa specific  vidieo tutorials. However, that window in not adjustable and is frequently too small to see exactly what the person is actually doing. Can the video be enlarged?
There are other secondary videos that can be watched in that same window. These other videos are really quite tiny, actually. I can't see at all what the person is doing. I think it would be nice to be able to enlarge the videos presented within the Welcome window that opens with PS CC 2014. Is anyone else having this problem??
    Thanks,
    Chick

I am aware of the above links; they do  not appear to contain the same, most recent videos containing the most recent updates that open in Photoshop  when Photoshop is updated, however.
I think having these videos discussing the most recent updates immediately available in Photoshop is more timely and convenient. but again, I wonder why the video window is so small. Why was that considered good form and even helpful?
    Thank you.

  • Photoshop UI too small on retina display (windows 8.1 bootcamp on a macbook)

Like the title, everything is too small. This applies to all my adobe software. The software was given by my school and not pirated , I can update all of them. Now photoshop is at 13.0.1 and it won't update any further. Help?

I don't know if it does, but as the software running on the Mac that could be aware of the Mac's retina display, Bootcamp should provide some sort of pixel-doubling compatability mode or something, right?
It still isn't clear why you are not using the Mac version.  Do you have a serial number?  Have you tried installing the Mac version and using the serial number to activate it?
If you're not sure of the serial number, anymore, you can try using the Belarc Advisor to analyze your Bootcamp partition and find various Adobe serial numbers:
    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
And if what the school has provided doesn't use serial numbers, then talk to them about supplying a Mac version for you, then.

  • Photoshop resolution on Macbook Pro 15" Retina display too small

I've just bought a Macbook Pro 15" and I'm trying to use Photoshop, but the resolution its displaying the images at for 100% are too small. I have to design for the web, so need to be intricate with detail, but I'm finding it adjusts the resolution of the image right down. (I mean you can see the image clearly, but it's too small to edit). When I look at Safari and see a web page at 100% it's clear, but the same page displayed in Photoshop CC appears 50% of the size (even though it says it's 100%)
If I move the application window to another screen it adjusts it correctly  – leaving all the pallettes, menus and tools correctly sized as they are on the retina display
Is there some way to adjust the way Photoshop CC displays images so it is more consistent with what you actually see?
There doesn't seem to be any answer on the Adobe forum, so hopefully someone here can shed some light.

    quaetapo wrote:
Well that certainly helps in terms of making the image larger – only problem is with the low resolution there's a loss of clarity and pixelisation of the image; so not the same level of quality...
In System Preferences/Display, what resolution do you have your screen set to? Try changing that also to see if the two settings can work together. Also, since the vast majority of users (Mac or PC) don't have Retina Displays, isn't what you're seeing with Low Resolution checked in Photoshop closer to what most people will see? Remember that Apple's software, such as Safari, have been upgraded to take full advantage of the rMBP display; most other browsers, especially in Windows, haven't.
And if you want to tinker with the rMBP's resolution even further, check out "Eye-Friendly" in the App Store.

  • Print Too Small from Photoshop CS4 with HP 8500 All In One Printer

I'm running Windows XP with CS4 and latest patches and drivers.  When I print an image to my HP 8500 All in one printer, the printout is too small.  Instead of a centered 4 x 6 image on the page I get a 1 x 1-1/4 inch small print of the image in the upper left hand corner.
I re-installed CS3 and it works perfectly as do any other print options, such as word, etc.  But from Photoshop CS4 I can find no way to print to this printer without the image shrinking in size.  If I print to another printer at the same sitting, the image is fine.  So it's a PS CS4 vs. HP 8500 unique problem I guess.
I've see this post in other forms and no help as yet.  Does anyone have this one on their radar.  I really like this printer, but it's quite annoying.
By the way, If I print to a PDF from PS CS4, the pdf file image is fine.  That's another end around for printing also. HMMMM.
I did contact HP and they put the problem squarely back on Adobe.  No partnership there.
    Thanks,
    Glen

Will the printer print from any app?
I know it sounds like a dumb question, but you didn't actually say...  And I admit to looking for software problems on an occasion or two when I had forgotten to plug in cables.

I tested both ways. With "open in low resolution" ckecked the size of the images is cool, but it is low-resolution including Photoshop appearance.
If "open in low resolution" is unckecked the appearance is good but the very small size.
