when I use this tool, it will not let me select the color and when I accept it by hitting enter or check key it flashes and it not readable or what i wanted it to be.

You're welcome. Here are the modes, if you hold the mouse button down on the type tool:

  • Photoshop type tool strange behavior

Created a new text layer in Photoshop by dragging the type tool on canvas and the character color palette displays a "?". Whatever I do (typing text, changing font), can't get to change that for an actual color.

Someone gave me an RGB PSD layered file with some text layers asking me to figure out what happened. As soon as the "text box" of the layer is selected, the type that used to be white disappears and the text color icon becomes "?". I then tried to reproduce the problem on a new created empty document, selected the text tool and clicked on the canvas to create a text layer and color is "?". Same thing happens when dragging with the text tool...

  • CS6 photoshop type tool maximally buggy

    Greetings all,
I have a new system - Mini, with wacom Intuos3 (old wacom set up) - with up to date Font Suitcase (fusion? can't recall the exact name - i'm at home now!)
I have upgraded from CS3 to CS6, apparently a no-no. BECAUSE: when I open a CS3 file and work on it in CS6, save it, and then reopen it again later, the type layers are inoperable. Clicking in the type area to edit changes the type to something that was on the former CS3 file. For example, if I typed "BOY" in Univers in CS3, and in CS6, selected and retyped it as BOYHOOD in Times, clicking in the text area of BOYHOOD mysteriously brings back the old "BOY" type in Univers. If I unclick, sometimes it reverts to BOY and won't budge. Sometimes it will stay as BOYHOOD.
If I try to move text from one doc to another, it comes in as different words and style and size in the other doc. It's utterly impossible.
I have the updated Photshop in the last 10 days.
Elsewhere I've read that Wacom may be the issue. I updated that today too. No change.
Any clues to help me with this madness?
    With thanks in advance,
    Jenny

    chris,
    A few questions:
    - I gather cs6 has been out for nearly a year. Isn't there a way you can notify new customers about this bug? You had my emai address etc It's complicated to even order this product on your website - you make it plenty hard. There was ample opportunity for Adobe to notify me. I've spent hours and hours on this issue, and I'm incensed by Adobe's carelessness. Customer service (three calls) wasn't even truthful with me. Or are they not in the loop as well?
    - Conroy has given me the barebones of the problem above, but I would like to get the full description from Adobe. Please give me that full statement, or provide a link where I can read about it. Obviously, thousands of people have been complaining and have been effected.
    - I wll be glad to send you the file that has 'rasterized' type. When I select the area of type to be moved (w/ the marquee selection tool) and then try to place on a separate layer with command J, it's buggy to the max. My email is J at JenniferClark dot com. Please provide w/ your email so that you can see this instance. [personal info removed by admin ]
    - Do you agree that CS3 to CS6 transition is problematic in and of itself? Where can I see a list of all issues that might stem from this transition?
    - What other bugs should I be aware of at this point?
Thank you in advance for your time.

  • Photoshop program error when type tool is selected

I've been trying to use the type tool in Photoshop and I am able to select the tool, however as soon as I place the cursor on my document, I get a program error. From there, I have to force quit the program to get out of it. I downloaded a security update for my mac yesterday, but since I haven't been using the type tool in photoshop recently, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with this issue or not. Has anyone had the same problem?
would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Let me clarify. I'm running Mac OS X v. 10.4.11, Photoshop CS4. The error message just says "Could not complete your request because of program error". I haven't uploaded any new fonts to my system, however, I have deleted some that were suspect of being corrupt. I cannot change fonts on the type tool because it doesn't give me a chance, the error message pops up instantly. I have reset my tools and deleted my preferences and even reinstalled Photoshop CS4 but nothing has worked.

  • Help the T 'Type tool' won't work on Photoshop CC trial?

I downloaded Photoshop CC recently and started editing a photo thinking all is going very well until I went to place text.  The text tool would not allow me to place text, all I got was a small square that wouldn't show any text.  Can you please advise me with what is happening and how to rectify this problem?  I am operating Windows 7 bit 64, HP Laptop.  Many Thanks!

Hi thanks for trying to help.  I tried both options of drawing a square to type in and also just clicking and trying to type.  I also changed the type fonts, used Arial, Myriad Pro, Georgia and tried all sizes from 18 pt to even 600 pt.  I have googled all relevant trouble-shooting options surrounding the text type tool before coming on here as a last resort. Cheers

  • CS6 Photoshop crashes when trying to use type tool or opening up .psd files. Any ideas on how to fix it???

I have Adobe CS6 Design Standard (MAC). I have had it about a year and a half and use it a ton! Just yesterday while I was using Photoshop, I clicked to use the type tool, the "initializing type tool" box popped up then a few seconds later the whole program crashed. I tried opening it back up and every time I did it just kept crashing. I restarted and shut down my computer, but still no solution. I even uninstalled the program then reinstalled. Same thing. All of my other tools work just fine (brush tool, eraser, crop, etc.). Also, when I try to open up a .psd file the program crashes as well.
I tried searching the internet for solutions, but couldn't find much. One suggestion was to delete the Adobe Photoshop program settings file, I did that but it still didn't work. After each crash a report would be sent to Adobe, then another window would pop up saying that Adobe has found a solution for the recent crash. There is a link that says "please CLICK HERE for further details" but the link doesn't take me anywhere. It just doesn't work!
Has anyone had this happen to them? Any ideas on how to fix it? I really need to get this up and running again!!!

This is a user to user forum and Adobe Staff does drop by.
First thing to try is Reset the Type Tool by right-clicking on its' icon in the Options bar.
If you still have problems, it could be related to fonts. Here is a step by step troubleshooting help doc for that.

  • PhotoShop CS4 type tool crash

    Using Windows 7 64bit. 8 GB Ram.
Weirdest problem I have ever had with Photoshop.
If I click the type tool, the character window or try to open any PS file with text in it PhotoShop crashes.
I opened C:/Windows/fonts and there are only 8 fonts in there. HOWEVER if I open up Fireworks or Flash I see tons of fonts and it works.
SIDE NOTE might be important ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I had Suitcase Fusion 2 (Font Manager) installed. Activated a bunch of fonts and suddenly was having clipboard copy paste issues between Illustrator and PhotoShop. I read somewhere on these forums that a corrupt font can mess up PhotoShop. After countless attempts at trying to correct the problem I uninstalled suitase fusion. That Did'nt fix the copy paste issue now I have this problem.
If I only have 8 fonts in my Windows/Fonts folder and am not using any font management software to organize and activate my fonts (which live in a seperate folder) then where are my Adobe Products that are working (Flash, Fireworks etc)....pulling them from?
Is there a way to reset all my fonts on my system?

Assuming font files are under Windows protection, the Windows 7 System File Checker command SFC /SCANNOW might recover them.  Outside of that, an in-place upgrade from your original Windows disc should do it.
You can have the System File Checker do a complete check and generate a report, but without any recovery activity, by issuing the command SFC /VERIFYONLY instead.
    Good luck.

  • Photoshop CS4 type tool and paint bucket

I am teaching Photoshop CS4 to my students and have started having problems I've never encountered.
Problem #1 - Type tool won't work. We can create a text box and type in it. Text does not show on the document but does show in the layers palette. I've made sure the layer is on top, text is not too large for text box and font color contrasts the background. I've looked at the character and paragraph palettes looking for something unusual but have found nothing.
Problem #2 - the paint bucket is "stuck" on one color. No matter which color swatch I choose, the color does not change. I have created new documents and also shut down and re-opened the program but that didn't help either.
Has enyone encountered these problems? How did you solve the problem?

The Reset Preferences "three-finger salute" is for Windows. Press and hold all there, BEFORE you launch PS. Keep holding them down THROUGH the ENTIRE loading process.
Depending on how you start Photoshop, holding the keys down ahead of time won't work on Windows 7, Bill (and I'm not sure, but possibly other versions of Windows as well).
For example, double clicking an icon on the desktop with Control-Shift-Alt held down brings up the Properties of the icon.
You actually have to press and hold the keys as soon as humanly possible after starting the app.  You have to be quick, but when you're quick enough you'll get...

  • Photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point

photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden.  happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point.  i really need to get thsi figured out. thank you.

You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know.

  • Photoshop Elements 6:   Could not use type tool because the file could not be found

Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 well for a while.
Tried to use the Type Tool to overlay text and obtained this error:
Could not use the type tool because the file could not be found
After research, I reset all tools, tried to repair (failed: insert disc one), and then removed/re-installed.  Still have the same problem.
Are the system fonts corrupt or is an Adobe .ini file suspect?
Other reports have suggested using a 3rd-party font manager to inspect/disable fonts.
First wanted to post this error here for feedback/recommendations
Any suggestion on how to recover the Type Tool functionality?

    Adobe Photoshop Elements Repair Workaround
When trying to repair the well-known:  insert disc one, error occurred.  Was able to successfully repair the installation by dragging the entire Adobe Photoshop Elements directory from the original CD-ROM onto a hard drive and executing locally.  Seems it does not like repairing over the CD-ROM but it works correctly if the install source is on disc...

    John,
Yesterday, I decided to completely remove all Adobe products:  PSE 6, Premiere 4, Reader, ActiveX plugins & legacy/old uninstalled product directories that Adobe has left turd-lets around including old Acrobat 3/6 directories.  Used A/D Software to remove all adobe products and then followed your instructions AND the instructions on Adobe's support web site to manually remove these products.
It boiled down to manually removing the entire Adobe directory in Progam Files, "saving" the entire Adobe directory structure in each users (3) Document and Settings in the Application Data and Local Settings (as instructed by you and Adobe) and rebooting.
I also saved the local All Users "configuration" database/cache that contained the Tag and other information to make sure the system was clean
This included following the manual Regit instructions to remove legacy Adobe registry hives.  I deleted all keys for all Adobe product trees that I could locate (following instructions from Adobe).
    Reboot
Scheduled a CHCKDSK on all drives and rebooted
Dragged my complete image library to an archive location and deleted them on the C: drive
    Did a complete system Defrag
Re-installed Adobe and alas still have the same problem with the Type Tool....
The only thing I did not do was selectively remove the "fonts" because various instructions seemed to indicate many are "required" by the windows or other applications and I was not really sure how to identify which ones were safe to remove w/o affecting the core system..  I'll have to re-read these instructions next.
Microsoft has a "Font Validator" tool, but that only checks 1 font at a time and you have to read the "results".  May look for other tools.
Will be able to check the font structure this weekend since it will take some research before I'm comfortable just removing fonts in trial/error mode.  I'll need to make a backup image of my computer before I start this (just in case).
    Thanks for follow-ups too!

  • Photoshop CS5.5 type tool not working after OS X 10.7.3 update

    Hi All
    Weird one ...
The first thing I noticed was that I could not use the type tool to create 'live' text on a layer. With the type tool selected I get the following error message when clicking to begin typing:
"Could not complete your request because of a programme error."
I quit Photoshop then attempted to launch the application by opening the file. The application opened but the file wouldn't, giving the same error message.
I quite Photoshop again and relaunched the application from the Dock. The applicatiuion opens fine but displays the same error message (before I have attempted to open a file).
With a file open I checked the type palette, where the dafault typeface is shown as Myriad Pro, but the default settings are:
    Type size: 1pt
    Linefeed (leading): 1pt
    Kerning: 1
    Tracking 1
    Type height: 0%
    Type width: 0%
    Baseline shift: 0
    Colour: black
    Language: multiple
    Type quality: none
Some odd settings there. The type tool bar (at the top of my display) has blank fields. Typing desired values into any of these fields doesn’t resolver the issue.
I have tried restarting, creating a new file but to no avail. The type tools in Illustrator and InDesign are working as expected, so it would appear to be a Photoshop problem and I’m stumped ... any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul

    Hi All
Okay ... I have sorted this out. I deleted the preferences file:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82893.htmluser/Library
tip for accessing the hidden user library (OS X 10.7):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90947.html
Working normally now ... but I wonder what upset the tool ...
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended "Not Responding" after selecting horizontal type tool.

    Hello,
When I start my PhotoShop CS3 Extended v10.0 and load up a jpg and
then zoom in and go select the horizontal type tool and click on my
jpg, PS just freezes and then I click the main screen and then it
tells me infinetly that it has "Stop Responding"
I am running Win XP Pro SP2 (2600) 2GB DDR, ample HD space, Intel Core
    Duo processor 1.66GHz.
Can some one tell me whats going on?

I have deleted the pref file vie the Crtl + Alt + Shft Meathod.
    It still won't load up.
How did I get to the Crtl + Alt + Shft Meathod?
Good question..... I right clicked the .exe icon and selected
Run as , Current User and --> Unchecked <-- "Protect computer and data
    from unauthorized program activity"
And SP started up with no problems.
BTW I wasn't being sarcastic with my last post as I see you used
all Caps in your reply which on the internet is considerd yelling.
If I had something sarcastic to say i would put in quotes "said with
a sarcastic tone", but i did not. I was mearly implying what the words
ment. I say what I mean and I mean what I say, period. Thanks for your help BTW and for now that problem still remains when clicking
the .exe file. Nothing has changed other then I can start PS when
following the directions I have stated here in this reply.
What are your opinions on this?
I would love to hear your thoughts.

  • Type Tool in Photoshop CS3 Extended

    Hi!
I just recieved my copy of Design Premium CS3 package from Adobe. I noticed that when I activate the Type Tool, Photoshop crashes or uses a long time to activate the tool.
I got this problem on the BETA version and thuoght it was a bug that would be fixed in the final.
Is this a bug or is it just my mac?
Got a macbook (Intel Core Duo 2Ghz).
EDIT: This is only first time I activate the type tool everytime I start Photoshop

I too am having same problem with Photoshop CS3 crashing every time I select the type tool on PowerBook G4 1GHz 1Gb RAM w/ 10.4.10. I have cleaned font cache, checked for font corruption, repaired permissions, tried other user accounts (including root), blah blah blah. CS2 version worked fine with type on same day that I removed it (following Adobe removal instructions to the letter) and installing CS3 Premium default. Fonts are all default install for Tiger and I haven't "installed" any others. I use Suitcase Fusion and everything is patched up to the hilt. I am in charge of I.T. at a large group of companies and have well over a decade of previous experience managing various prepress entities. I understand the urge to blame user error, unfortunately this time I am the user. We have 10 CS3 users here using both PPC & Intel, as well as Winblows (not a typo). For those condescending posters, please READ what these users are saying. There is an actual problem here. Besides, user shouldn't have to wear a propellor hat, you do a default install of Tiger and CS3, you ought to be able to set a line of type, period. Especially at these prices. I am getting ready to go deep on this one, if I figure out anything worthy of posting, I will holler back.

I've quit suitcase, disabled the suitcase plug-in, reset the preferences in Photoshop there's no crash report coming up either the application just dies! I am currently trying a system restore from time machine to see if that works!. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
