Photoshop users

I currently am running CS2 on a 20" imac G5 and it is beginning to show its age. The program can't keep up with my brain so it is time to upgrade. I am a professional photographer and am wondering if any others are using imacs for their work. I've narrowed my choices to a 24" imac or a mac pro/23" monitor. They are priced $2000 and $4000 respectively.
For other photogs, is it really worth the extra $2000?
imac G5 20", DP 800 Quicksilver, B&W G3/450   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The Pro only comes with 1 Gb (2x512 Mb). It is configured in modules of 4 after that; 2 Gb (4x512 MB), 4 Gb (4x1 GB), etc. That RAM isn't cheap either.
One option is to order the iMac with 1 Gb (1x1 Gb) and buy a 3rd party 2 Gb module. Talk to the Apple Store on the phone to see if 1x1Gb is available. It was when I bought my Core Duo, but the on-line store only shows 2x512 Mb currently. Make sure it is a reputable dealer like OWC, Crucial, etc and is guaranteed to work and guaranteed for life and you can't go wrong.
One example;Samsung 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz DIMM. This is the same memory Apple uses!

  • Why did my latest (manual) update change my version from 14.1.2.x64 to 14.2.1 x32? And why don't I have all the wonderful tools mentioned in the "25 Hottest Features of Photoshop CC" article in the latest Photoshop User magazine?

I realize it's a long title, but I wasn't sure if I was going to get more room.
I contacted LiveChat (11:30 EST) and I was told I would have to come back next week - the Adobe Support people were gone for the day (or weekend).
Since I am a monthly Photoshop CC subscriber, I thought updates were automatic. Is the magazine article really talking about CC(2014)?
    thanks,
    len

    a) I don't know if the update went wrong because I don't know what the correct current version number is. But my Bridge seems correct (6.1.0.116 x64), as does my Camera Raw (see letter c) below). When I do an update, I am told that all my programs are up-to-date. I will admit that I have not checked my Light Room 5.
    b) Based on the Photoshop User magazine, I am missing at least these (all I've tested for so far):
         o  Flame & Tree generators
         o  Select-->Focus Area
o  Blur Gallery (incl Spin & Path blur)
    c) But I do have these:
o  Camera Raw as a Filter
         o  Camera Raw Radial Filter
    d) I am using Photoshop CC subscription on an HP desktop computer with 6GB memory.
Once again, it would be great to know what the correct current version numbers are.
    thanks, len

  • CS2 will not open. Greeted with "Your Adobe Photoshop user name...

CS2 will not open. Greeted with message "Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit." I click OK and PS closes. I've been using this regestered copy on this PC (running Vista 32) for years (daily or at least weekly) without problem until today. Any ideas on how I can get it working again? I have disc somewhere? Thank you.

Unfortunately your cs2 disc is no good except for the things such as the goodies or extras that came on the cd, because adobe disabled the activation servers for cs2 products.
    You can try this:
(in other words something removed the info from the windows registry)
    http://web.archive.org/web/20120325044452/http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/error-user-n ame-organization-or.html
More than likely though, you'll have reinstall photoshop cs2 using the new non activating installer.
Use just the photoshop cs2 download and serial on that page.

  • Garageband/photoshop users: how does the MBP handle them well?

since these are important apps for me before i buy
can any of you pros tell me how its handling
complex songs/photo files, RAW imaging and the like.
im sure im not the only one interested in this area.
is it faster and more powerful than its predecessors?
    thanks

Garageband will be fine, since it's already Intel Native. Photoshop however is not and will run under Rosetta. If you are a heavy photoshop user you will notice the speed difference.

  • Photoshop user, 2,0 or 2,16  macbookpro?

    Considering the price difference
I don't care about the extra 20 giga of the HD,i own 4 external HD.
I won't use video,so the 256 ram in the video card are not important.
i will upgrade anyway to 2 giga the ram.
Does it make a big difference the 2,16 vs the 2,0 processor considering i will use the computer mainly for professional photoshopping pictures(30 / 50 mega files more or less)and for browsing the internet and sending pictures via FTP.
I won't consider(unfortunately) the macbook 13,3 because of the glossy screen.

I'd say go for the 2GHz since you will maxing out the RAM. You won't notice much difference with the 2.16. If you are a hardcore gamer aside from being a photoshop user, go for the 2.16GHz one. The memory is the one that matters a lot when it comes to photoshop.

  • Photoshop user manual written in Vietnamese language

Anyone knows if there is any downloadable Photoshop user manual written in Vietnamese language?

Since there is no Vietnamese Edition of Photoshop, Adobe would not have a Vietnamese User Guide.
You would have to search an online Vietnamese Bookstore for Photoshop Guides in your language.

  • Newbie from Mac to windows new photoshop user

Hello everyone as the subject says coming from Mac to PC and just got Photoshop.  I have some questions.
    1. Is bridge used to catalog your pictures like iphoto?  Or do I need to purchase Lightroom?
    2. This goes with question one.  Do I download photos from my camera or other media to windows photo or just to bridge?
    3. This is what I want to do.  I wnat to organize my photos, and edit if necessary.
    4.  Also can someone give me a basic example of their work flow and hardware setup?  My system is using a internal 2TB raid 0, a 1TB systme drive and a 250GB external drive.  I use the raid for my video editing media drive.
    Thanks

    1. Bridge can be used to organise, rate and process photos just as on the Mac. It does not work like iPhoto though. A lot of users use Lightroom too but it is not essential.
    2. Bridge has a built-in Photodownloader. There is no "Windows photo" but there are other (unnecessary) photo apps within Windows.
    3. Bridge can be used to rate and organise all media files and to initiate processing, via scripts, and editing via Camera Raw and Photoshop as required.
    4. There are dozens of workflow and hardware setups. Look at some of the Adobe videos and tutorials (including Russelll Brown's) for ideas. There are Adobe Knowledge base articles on optimising your setup.

  • Understanding the Creative Cloud Plans for a first-time photoshop user

I've never had photoshop before and I downloaded just the free 30-day trial. Then I purchased the Creative Cloud Photography plan (the one that's 9.99 a month). But I need help understanding what this offer me, because in the description this seemed to offer Photoshop and Lightroom, but I don't see an option to install those apps on my creative cloud.
If I'm a first time user do I have to buy the creative cloud complete in order to have access to Photoshop and Lightroom?

Here's a screenshot of what I've got right now. The apps are just saying try, not install. Do I need to purchase the products themselves and the CC is just access to the cloud?

  • Why Lightroom (from a Photoshop User)

As a photographer and serious Photoshop (CS3) user, (and one who did try out Lightroom during its beta phase), Im trying to decide whether its worth getting and using at this stage. I commonly use Photoshop, with layers, some filters, blending modes, certainly adjustment layers, etc. So, what would be the point of Lightroom? Is it mainly for those photographers who cannot quite figure out Photoshop? And, assuming one uses Lightroom for the more routine tasks, how does that then fit in with the other images which require Photoshopdo images easily move between ACR, Lightroom and Photoshop? And finally, if I just stay with Photoshop (eventually CS3), will I be able to do anything that one can do in Lightroomwith the same newer tools and sliders--will Adobe Camera RAW pretty stay equal to Lightroom? By the way, Im not that interested in a different database. the information metadata should do the same in both Photoshop and Lightroom, I believe (perhaps incorrectly).
    Thanks
    keith

There are three ways to get images into Photoshop. The first uses the "Edit in Photoshop" command (CTRL+E on windows). This will create a PSD or TIF in Lr and then send the file to Photoshop.
The second method is to export images to a folder (Shift+Ctrl+E) and optionally open in Photoshop after the export.
The only sharpening that Lr applies in either method is the sharpening specified in the develop module.
The third method and the slickest is to import your raw files into Lr as DNG. Then use Lr to apply metadata and develop data. Export this metatdata to the DNG file with the "Metatdata>XMP>Export XMP Metatdata to File" menu command. Then in Ps CS3 open the DNG file as a Smart Object (see the File menu). Apply any adjustment or sharpening layers (use Smart Filters), and then save this to a TIF or PSD file.
Now for the slick part. If you later change the Lr develop data of the DNG file and export the metatdata, you can then open the layered file in CS3, and then open the DNG smart object layer. In ACR click the right facing arrow on the Basic panel, then click Previous Conversion. Viola, you pick up the edits from Lr!
A complete non-destructive workflow from Lr to Ps.
Addendum: Further experiments show that the Smart Object cannot pick up subsequent edits in Lr by using the Previous Conversion trick. Oh, well.

  • "Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization or serial number is missing or invalid"

My computer had a new HD and thus I had to reinstall my CS, but activation failed since it has been taken down.
So I was directed to a page where I downloaded and installed another CS including the serial #.
After installation, when I try to start it, I get the above message and then Photoshop quits.
I was directed to this place after login with my Adobe Id:
Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products
where I downloaded the english CS2 for Windows version.
The funny thing is that the PS splash screen has all the information and it didn't complain when I installed and entered the serial number!?
    I'm on Win7 if that's important.

  • Photoshop Users With ATI Video Cards - Catalyst 11.9 Release Seems Good

I've been using Photoshop all day with the Catalyst 11.9 display drivers, released yesterday by AMD.  My system is Windows 7 x64 and I have a VisionTek Radeon HD 5670 card with 1 GB, and Photoshop CS5 is set to Use OpenGL Drawing in Advanced mode.
Their version 11.8 release seemed buggy, so I had stayed with 11.7 until last night, when I upgraded to 11.9. I did nothing special to install the prior version; I just ran the 11.9 installer.
So far, I've had zero problems processing images in Photoshop today.  My display has been smooth and quick, with no crashes or faults.
    -Noel

The Catalyst version number is a package number that's basically year.month of release.
Looking in the Catalyst Control Center in the Information section, the detailed version info for Catalyst 11.9 is the following:
