Photoshop Vector Issues
Recently I began learning how to make better use of the vectors in Photoshop CS3. Long story short, I was trying to make a "Custom Shape" of a band logo, and there is fill where there shouldn't be. How do I alter which areas are filled in and which are not? In the logo below, the large black area should be white. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
P.s. I don't have access to Illustrator .
The exact answer depends a lot on the method you are using to construct the shape, but you should try different settings of these five icons in the Options for the Shape and Pen tools:

Images appear fine in Photoshop cs6 and cc, but print too dark, and also show too dark in Windows picture viewer. How can I correct this? Is this a Photoshop setting issue or what?
Ok, look at your files in Photoshop. What is the profile assigned to them? You can find this out by going to the Status bar at the bottom, clicking on the right-pointing triangle and choosing document Profile from the list.
Then in Windows, go to your Control Panel > Color Management and add sRGB (if it isn't there) and select it as your default profile.
I hope that will work. -
Bridge/Photoshop Colour Issues
Bridge/ Photoshop Colour Issues:
It appears that there are a few pictures that are noticeably dull, when I load them in Bridge and Photoshop. Those same pictures are very vibrant when I look at them directly from the SD card or load them into Picassa. I tried editing the picture, saving it in Photoshop, then opening it up in Picassa and it has the same dullness. Since having this issue, I have updated the drivers on my Quadro graphics card, but I think it may be something to do with the way that I set up Adobe Bridge, because this is the first time I have imported a large batch of photos from Bridge. However, I pretty much left everything as the standard settings in Bridge. Any suggestions?
FYI - I just started using the Adobe Master Collection, with Win 7 Pro 64 and Huey Pro embedded on my laptop. My colour settings are Huey Pro on my laptop, SRGB in Photoshop and General Purpose for Bridge (I haven’t had this issue before and Huey Pro has been my colour settings on my laptop since I got Adobe).
DerekDwhug wrote:
However, when I switch the Colour Settings>Working Spaces>RGB to "Monitor RGB - Huey Pro" the problem is fixed.
That turns off color management in Photoshop, so yes, that would match other applications that aren't color managed at all. You're not fixing the problem, you're just hiding the symptom.
If you're certain the Photoshop version is wrong, that means your monitor profile is corrupt. A corrupt monitor profile only affects color managed software like Photoshop. Other applications don't use the monitor profile and never touch it.
If it's merely the fact that Photoshop is different, that's normal and all as it should be. With a valid monitor profile Photoshop is right and the others wrong. -
10.7.4 huge photoshop performance issues
I've had variants of three different versions of Photoshop installed - CS4, 5 and now 6. I'm not 100% sure when the issue
started occurring, but I've done a lot of experimentation to analyze it.
The components involved are
1.Photoshop
2.Wacom Intuos 3
3.Lion 10.7.4
Whenever I'm digital painting, which I'm doing professionally, all the time, the colour picking mechanism is not only slow, but doesn't work about 2/3 of the
time. The next stroke made *after* the colour picking never works either. I do this about ONCE EVERY TWO SECONDS. So it's like being punched
in the face all day long while you're trying to get some work done.
Most likely, support staff will attempt to get rid of me saying 'ask wacom' or 'ask adobe.' BUT, here's the process I've gone through.
1.Tried all three variants of photoshop. They all have issues.
2.Switched to a different Wacom tablet (identical model), switched three different wacom pens, all identical models. Note that I also
tested all of these on a Windows machine with the same Photoshop issue, and they all work. And I also tested them all, and photoshop,
on my old intel powerbook running the same version of Photoshop, and it's fine. That Mac is running Leopard.
3.I erased my HD, reinstalled Lion (10.7.4 obviously) and installed Photoshop and the Wacom drivers on top of it again. Just one version,
nothing else to mess with it. Aaaaand, exactly the same issue.
This has made my Mac unusable and frankly, is having a massive financial impact on me . If anyone can think of anything I've left out, please
give it a shot. My instinct is that this has narrowed it down to the operating system, and that it's most likely something to do with the GPU. Or the USB bus. Or the application support libraries - but specific to this hardware as, like i say, I've tried another mac with leopard and all is fine.
HEEEEELP!I am having serious Photoshop performance issues as well.
My Photoshop CS5 was running well until I upgraded to Mac OS 10.7.4. My observations are highly un-scientific, but I am noticing the worst performance in Photoshop when I have my Firefox browser open. It's like the 2 programs are fighting with each other. I am also noticing Flash crash reports on Firefox when Photoshop is open.
Even with Firefox closed, however, Photoshop CS5 is sluggish and slow with 10.7.4. Even the dreaded beachball coming back into my life.
I have even erased my hardrive and reinstalled the OS and that did not help.
Other programs are running fine. Even Firefox runs well when photoshop is not running. -
Photoshop Vectors and Smart Objects Create Blurring
I have been supplied a Photoshop document that has Illustrator Vector files that have been placed in the PSD as Smart objects.
When I bring the PSD into InDesign and print it, all the PSD artwork is blurry.
How can I get the PSD file to print from InDesign at high quality.
The PSD file is at 300 dpi. I have tried bringing it into InDesign as PSD, TIFF, EPS & PDF, but it's the same issue every time. Here is your screenshots

Suitcase Fusion/Photoshop Font Issue
I have Photoshop CS5.5 with Suitcase Fusion 15.0.5. When I use any kind of typeface in a Photoshop file it appears jagged. When I rasterized the type, the edges are still jagged. It does display the correct font and not defaulting to a generic one. It is just that the curved edges are bad.
I am to figure out if this is a Photoshop or Suitcase issue. I have reinstalled the suitcase plugin, no change. Reset Photoshop to it's defaults. My other apps (e.g. Adobe, Apple and Microsoft), the fonts look great. What's the ppi resolution of your files? What type of file format?
Once rasterized, text in Photoshop is no longer vector. Unless you have a very high ppi resolution, text is bound to appear jagged.
Photoshop is not the ideal application for text. -
I am getting theses issues when opening Photoshop cs5. I have tried everything online and it will not work. Please help

It affected only a single user on the system. Reinstalling, resetting preferences in both PS and ID, removing all Adobe user preferences and caches, none of it worked.
After doing some system troubleshooting (disk permissions, disk repair, etc.), I found myself in Keychain Access, looking at why there was a renamed login.keychain. Keychain Access listed a keychain with a name similar to Persistent Encrypted State (I didn't record the exact name for posterity). I couldn't open it, and eventually decided to run Keychain First Aid, It found problems with the Persistent Encrypted State and removed references to it. After a reboot, both programs started working.
Not sure if it will help you at all, one year after your original message, but something to look at -
Illustrator to photoshop resolution issue
I have asked this before but this new forum software apparently does not allow me to look up my old posts. Nice one.
I have a serious issue with CC, I am astounded no one else has it and I really need a solution.
I used to be able to copy a vector graphic in illustrator, goto photoshop, create new from clipboard and an option would come up to choose a specific resolution. It defaults to 72. and you used to have to set it to something else, create the document and it wouldn't work. But creating new from clipboard again would then proceed to work on the next attempt. It was as annoying as ******** but I got used to the flow.
Now however it does not work full stop. A new from clipboard option offers 72, change it to say 300, it opens says it is so, but the picture is at 100% and tiny, so for instance a vector at 500pix wide will not open any large than that in photoshop even though the res has be quadrupled.
This is really causing me major hassles.
How do other people deal with this?
Also whats the next best forum to ask general questions, adobe's gets worse and worse. (people here are great but the attempt at integrating everything with everything else is a real bore)Hi, no raster. I am talking about simple shapes or fonts turned to outlines.
This has been an ongoing issue for much of CC. I purchased a new macbookpro and installed a brand new OS, not from back up and its still there.
Can someone just try what I am saying and tell me if they do not see this behaviour.
i.e. create a square in illustrator. Copy and create new file from clipboard in photoshop, can you get it any bigger than the amount of pixels you made it?
You can FWIW import the file at any res you like and this works, but its a total PITA when you just want stuff done quickly. -
Photoshop CS2 issues & Customer Relation's solution
i bought a g5 quad in June 06 that failed in july 06. they were unable to resolve the issue and gave me a replacement machine.
i was given a mac pro with 4GB of RAM and a terabyte of internal storage. the 2 oem 500GB Seagate 7200.10 hard drives took over 9+ hours to zero out: the apple store genius told me this was normal. i have since purchased 2 different hard drives. one of the same capacity which zero's out in under 2 hours. that number IS normal.
Adobe Photoshop CS2 Bridge and Camera RAW have never worked properly on this machine since i got it, quitting all the time when renaming files or browsing my hard drive folders in Bridge. i was told that this is normal and that CS3 and Leopard will fix all this. then the CS3 Beta came out and the machine quits even with the new version.
i contacted Adobe, they say it is my hardware. i went to the apple store and showed them the problem and was able to duplicate it on every mac pro in their store and they said it must be a software issue.
i bought more RAM from apple. the machine works somewhat better now, but it still crashes in photoshop and adobe camera raw and bridge. i purchased lightroom and have looked at changing my workflow, and this program too quits intermittently.
i called apple customer support again. they walked me through using a different user account. same issues. i asked to speak to customer relations. i got on the phone with the lady, and i asked if it was possible to send someone out to look at the machine since it is not working properly, and she said that it is not something they would do since it is not their problem. i asked if they would be able to help me decipher the crash logs so i can find out WHY the machine is crashing.
her exact words were, "well, maybe you can sell it? if it is giving you all these problems and since it is not our hardware, it might be best for you to sell it and buy something that works."
"sell it." i would like to say that "sell it" was not the answer i was looking for. i wasn't even mean to her. i was extremely polite and i got, "sell it" from customer relations. i hope none of you get "sell it"
good luck to all of you.You use to use Windows but decided to move to Macs at some point, and not look or go back. And that the Quad G5 worked up until some point.
When I got my Mac Pro back in late August/early Sept, I ran into some oddities that no one could help me with. Drivers from Lexmark for their laser printers. Suffice to say that I spent weeks if not month trying to track down why etc. and doing the "clean install" but ended up with the original install disk image.
I'm always afraid if I am forced to install any drivers for now as a result.
I updated SoftRAID (I thought) and ran into every driver and extension conflict possible, known and unknown.
Clean install and avoided anything I could "live without" this time around, and it was stable. For a few days, any and every - and I mean absolutely anything I tried to launch, run or whatnot would CRASH.
I was ready to point fingers. But at whom? ah! must be the Ramjet. Passes all tests, but there must be a gremlin and nothing is good enough to find the cause.
System is now rock solid and stable.
I don't know really what or why. And whether it was SMC reset (I wish they would paint the button in RED!) or zapping PRAM/NVRAM.
I also installed Vista to see if it was OS X or hardware or not. But I never learned what is needed to really use and secure a Windows system - or troubleshoot it if it goes haywire. But you would.
I have spent 40+ yrs tinkering with computers, and 20 with Macs. I think I still remember some of the troubleshooting days from 1990 hunting down shareware bugs.
If it is hardware, it would fail running XP too, maybe? did you retain your license for and copies of Windows and CS2 or whatever you would use? (The Mac Pro really shines running Windows Vista from what I've seen).
It doesn't take a lot to turn a Mac into a crash-prone system. There are some bugs even with the OS update installer itself it seems.
Troubleshooting is as much art as science. Hunches based on what feels wrong with some sweat and guesses backed by some "CSI" sleuthing and detective work.
Only Apple or Intel would know if they have had to come out with re-designed chips, a newer motherboard, or cpus. Or the AMB used on the Risers.
As I said (5 pages ago?) a friend had a G5 Quad that would not run CS2 properly, was crashing etc. (and had on-site Care etc) and the latest logicboard (3rd) stopped the problems, CS2 runs faster and better, it doesn't crash, and the benchmarks show it.
There are revisions to logic-boards. I read it takes 3-6 months to get a pattern of a problem, and another 3-6 months to redesign parts, manufacturing, testing, between engineering prototypes and manufacturing.
I thought the whole idea of AppleCare was sort of the "care" in AppleCare. And to solve a problem.
It would take someone with access to what engineering errata is going on. What changes were made to G5s. There were other problems with Quad it seems as well, heat, the liquid cooling components (there are two varieties).
I don't have the stomach or temper to deal with customer service, phones, etc. But I would make an appointment (yes, again!). I don't know what terms there are for small business or customers to get premium care, probably not good.
We had a mainframe with a bad memory card or bank. We thought. We also swapped out every part trying to get it fixed. We even had to keep the room temp colder and controlled humidity. A new system for us would have been lower maintenance, lower energy bill, less strain on a/c even. And smaller (so we didn't need to use as much floor space). But government can be "penny wise and pound foolish" in such matters.
I know you are just getting familiar with things like "Onyx" and "Disk Warrior" and such. Those can be helpful.
Crashing does tend to lead to more crashes. Mac OS X is not immune to side effects of what they can do. And usually you want to finish a project, not get sidelined.
I wish you had a G5 Quad in there. Two systems. Maybe two G5s even if you have the work or so you can be running CS2 on one and CS3 on another. Or have a techie "gearhead" come in and test and insure that your systems are in working order. Something.
It ain't normal. And it should get more than a "brush off." -
Direct Selection Tool - Shape Layers in Photoshop CC Issue
I just upgraded to CC and the first major road block is the new way the direct selection tool works. In my CS6 work flow I would use the direct selection tool to jump between shape layers within the document layer. Then once the correct shape was selected I would click drag select the anchor points I want to adjust. This seems to be impossible now in CC. You can still jump between shape layers but you have to be in "All-Layers" which really hurts when I want to click drag to select specific anchor points because it selects all shapes below it. And with Active-layer selected you can't jump between shape layers with the tool but you can click drag select anchors with out selecting and shapes below the layer. The basically cut functionality right down the middle…
Below I made a very simple video showing the issue (CS6 = first PSD and CC = 2nd PSD)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/pjlvwzmli9ihczd/CCProblemBroadband.m4v
As you can see in CS6 I could fly between layers and adjust everything with out ever changing to another tool or jumping to the layers window… I can no longer do that in CC with out having the dumb issue of also selecting the layers below it, which I don't find useful 99% of the time. Is there a setting to make this work like it did in CS4-CS6???? In my line of work, we work a lot with shape layers and this is causing more time to my work day.
Thanks1000x this. My designs are 100% vector shapes, so if Adobe have changed this core behavior intentionally, they’ve just made my life a lot more difficult.
We should be able to use the Direct Selection Tool to select a shape layer (similar to how the Move Tool has done) by clicking on any visible pixel. But then we should be able to freely drag-select points on that shape (starting from any neutral area) without selecting other shape layers. This is how it’s worked since before I can remember.
Here’s why the two new selection modes don’t work:
Active Layers - I can no longer freely select any visible shape. Instead I’m forced to make a time-consuming roundabout to the layer palette, where I have to squint to find my shape layer, and activate it manually before continuing. (Hitting “V” to select a layer, then “A” to get back to the D.S. Tool is nearly as cumbersome. Plus, I leave off the Move Tool's auto-select mode.)
All Layers - Treats all my shapes as if they’re on one layer. Overlapping shapes are therefore impossible to work with -- mainly drag-selecting and deselecting points -- in situ.
We either need a “legacy” setting, or some way to constrain selection on drag, via a key modifier or something. This “all or nothing" thing doesn’t work for me... and apparently for others. Why would they change such a thing?
Or maybe there’s something I’m missing. Please let that be the case! -
Photoshop CS6 issue with shortcuts and my keyboard after upgrade from CS5
I recently upgraded from CS5 Extended to CS6 Extended on my Mac (Mavericks), but installed it in English instead of German this time. I transferred most of my presets just fine, but none of the keyboard shortcuts were working. All I got was an unequal sign for all shortcuts and even manually changing them didn't get them to work. I found a few discussions about this issue and ended up adding a German keyboard, as I am always on the Romaji setting of my Kotoeri (Japanese) keyboard. That seemed to solve the issue, but only if I change to the German keyboard before opening Photoshop. Shortcuts don't work in CS5 anymore either unless I do. Sometimes the shortcuts also stop working a while after I change back to the Kotoeri keyboard.
Now I would like to know if there is any way to get around this issue. Isn't there a way to get my shortcuts working again without constantly having to change keyboards? I much prefer the Kotoeri one since the icon for the German keyboard in my menu bar looks extremely obnoxious, in my opinion. It's mostly a cosmetic thing to me, but I would love to get everything back to the way it was before.
I'd much appreciate any advice or help.I am having a similar problem. Just upgraded to Apple Yosemite and all none of my keyboard shortcuts are working in a clean install of Photoshop CS6. Every menu item has some form of the ≠ sign. I've trashed the .plist file, rebuilt permissions, etc. Even basic keyboard commands, like Command-N for NEW or Command-Q for QUIT do not work. In fact, many don't show up in the menu at all. I don't have this issue in InDesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6. Every once in awhile, maybe 1 time out of 20, menus and keyboard shortcuts work properly, but I can't find any pattern.

Photoshop CS2 Issues After Latest Secuirty Update
I am working on a Power Mac G5 with Mac OSX 10.4 and Adobe CS2. I do not know if it was the security update that caused these problems in Photoshop for me, but that was the only thing that had been installed around the time that the problems started happening.
The issue is that when I have the Move Tool and several layers in groups. When I have a layer inside one of the groups highlighted and I want to move it, suddenly PS selects the whole group and moves it as well. I have checked to see if there were any sort of links to the layers and there are not.
It is a weird issue and since this is a work machine it is very important to get PS working again. At the moment I have to work on a Windows machine to get things done.
Thanks for any help that you can give me.Eric,
Mac OS X 10.4? Or 10.4.11? Or...?
Before running the security update, did you repair permissions? Run DiskWarrior? Try resetting the tool preferences, and/or Photoshop preferences?

Photoshop CS4 Issue with NVIDIA 8800 Video Card?
I have an Mac Pro Intel 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Xeon with 6GB RAM running OS X 10.5.5 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT driving two monitors.
I just installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 fresh from a factory CD.
When I perform a Distort -> Lens Correction or do a Free Transform to rotate an image an arbitrary amount, and then follow that with a resize (tried 133% and 166%), the image ends up with a pattern of gray plaid overlaid -- especially visible in the darkest shadows. The pattern appears only on the rotated layers of an image.
This pattern persists if I quit and restart Photoshop, BUT -- there's no pattern visible if I open the same image in Photoshop CS3. It only appears in CS4.
This is easy to reproduce -- I just tried it with an image I created in Photoshop at 5x7" at 240dpi and filled with solid black.
I dropped a Bug Report to Adobe, and they wrote back suggesting "This is most likely an issue with your video card driver."
Anybody else out there having this issue? Anyone with an identical setup want to test this?

I am struggling to optimize my computer for Photoshop.
An example file opens in 85 seconds. Same file saves in 340 seconds.
PhotoShop CS6 (13.0.1)
File is 21000 x 21000 - 50 layers (5.8gb .psb saved)
Why so big? - 5k.com/C.jpg
When I open image, I see 2 swap files 67gb & 8.5gb
Hard drives
C: Samsung 830 256 ssd boot drive.
Raid0 SSD Samsung 840Pro 256x2 (512total) PSswap/temp (Tests @1100mb/s read @880mb/sec write)(Z77 intel RST v11.0+ raid0 trim)
Samsung 830 ssd media drive (open & save)
File opens in 90 seconds. Saves in 340 seconds.
stays at 0% saved for 270 secs
INTEL I7 3770K 3.5G 8M R8 - CPUs utilization - about 12%+- overall - no one cpu above 50%
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 lga 1155 MoBo
32gb MEM 8Gx4 GSKILL F3-1866C10Q-32GXL R
variables:
tried video card at (Adv, int, basic) no change.
Toyed with an NVIDIA QUADRO 6000 PCI-E 6GB - did not see performance change.
Tried opening&saving to raid0 SSD no change.
switched PSswap & media drives - slowed it down on open & close +- 100sec.
I don't understand why it would take so much longer to save than open....
Would a better video card (4gb or 6gb) make a difference?
Would 64gb ram (dif mobo) or 6 core i7-39*0K CPU make a difference?
Unrelated - When I pan to bottom-right of image there is a major lag in display. Up to 20 sec. regardless of video settings.
Is there an easy way to calculate video ram needs based on image size? Prefer ATI - was looking at trying v9800 4gb.
Tried NVIDIA QUADRO 6000 PCI-E 6GB - didn't seem better.
I recall reading that with SSD drives, having seperate drives for OS, TMP, Media is no longer adventageous....True/False?
I am grasping at straws to figure out what my bottlenecks are and how to elliminate them.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.

Message was edited by: PECourtejoieThat sounds like a pretty big document considering all the layers. What's the nature of all those layers? Pixel data edge to edge, or some vector data, some adjustment layers, a mix? Do the layers have masks?
I was curious, so I timed the saving of a very large image I have on hand, with 32009 x 21000 pixels, 16 bits/channel, 42 layers, some pixels, some adjustment layers, most layers with masks. I have "Maximize Compatibility" set to "Never" and I enabled Flate compression. The save was to a high bandwidth SSD array, and like you I have Windows 7 x64.
The save went like this:
It started at 0%
Jumped to 25% at 8 seconds into the save.
26% at 0:35
27% at 1:30
28% at 3:15
etc. at long intervals. The file psA3B2.tmp grew incrementally all during that time.
It seemed to stop at 73% for a few minutes.
The save completed in 22 minutes 10 seconds and the .psb file was ultimately 6.6 GB in size.
Since I have Background saving enabled in Photoshop CS6 I was able to interact with Photoshop and could potentially have been continuing editing during that time. Also I had no problem doing other things, like type up this message, chat on Skype, etc.
I have 48GB of RAM and actual usage rose to 43.4 GB. Photoshop created a 58GB scratch file.
It busied one logical processor (of 24) pretty much to the max the entire time (showing a total of 4% usage). As I understand it data compression is not something easily multi-threaded (though I wonder whether it could be done by multiple threads on a layer by layer basis). Your core speed is faster than mine with that i7-3770K processor (as compared to my Xeon X5690 CPUs), and who knows how different our documents are, but I'd say your system did rather well given that you have compression enabled.
The real workaround that could make it more usable for you is what Chris said above - for a document at this magnitude in size, disable the Flate compression and it will get right to the task of saving to disk. And yes, it will make the file HUGE - so you trade size for speed.
As a test I disabled compression and saved again. This time the save completed in 1 minute 29 seconds and the .psb file ended up being 36.5 GB in size.

I know there are some, but I can't find the list...
Here's my list:
Photoshop CS3 on Vista Home Premium
1. When holding down the shift key and clicking near the edge of the screen with a paint/clone/repair brush, the screen jumps to another area of the image (light years away it seems) - PS7 and CS2 moved a fraction of an inch in comparison. This shift-click is made after first setting an initial point to start from.
2. When printing to an Epson Stylus Pro 4800, no matter how many copies I indicate that I want, I'll inevitably get more...sometimes many more. From my other PC, a dual P3 with 4GB of RAM running Win2KPro and PSCS2, this does not happen (using same file). Seems more like a Vista/Epson Driver issue, but I'm putting it here, since it doesn't happen when I print to any other printers...yet.
3. If I close a file that is showing full-window (not necessarily full-screen), and another image is still waiting to be worked on in the background, the full-window image does not change when the file closes, but the navigator version of the image changes to the next image waiting in the background. I have to resize the window to force a rewrite of the screen with the correct image.
I am patiently waiting for fixes/workarounds to these issues - any suggestions are greatly appreciated. This is a new thread , But I have no idea how to start a new thread so I am doing it here .
My photoshop CS3 , CS2 , and probably CS also will not correctly display the changes I have made to an image with shading whether it is done with the Clone Stamp , or the eraser to expose a lower layer , or with the paint brush , etc. after saving and opening for desktop background or for display even in Photoshop .
I thought it could be the monitor driver , but it displays every shade correctly except the shades I have altered .
Generally they are displayed with missing gradations and hard line steps between shades which were carefully made with very smooth gradations having absolutely no steps in the finished image when saved .
If it were a fault with the driver for the monitor it would effect the whole image , not just the parts I modified .
Is there anyone who has had this kind of problem , or who knows what is causing it ?
If so please reply .
