Photoshop version 7.0.1 'program error problem' on Mac10.6.8 is there a fix?

I installed this version onto my new computer Mac 10.6.8 and Message comes up .....An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occured because of a programe error photoshop will now quit.
What if anything can I do to fix this? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Photoshop 7 is not Intel native and could only run in Rosetta emulation of PowerPC code, and Rosetta is known to be very buggy.
Photoshop 7 is also really old.
Your best bet is to purchase a new version of Photoshop that is Intel native.

  • Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 program error when I place a layer or open a new file

I have just updated to the most recent PS CC2014 version. Twice, in fact, and the same problem persists. At some point while working on a file it will become impossible to place a new layer or open a new file. Other program functions work, but these will produce an error message: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." It's very frustrating and the only solution is to restart the program which will run fine for a while and then do it again.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Or better still, has anyone found a solution to this issue?
    Richard

I am experiencing a similiar problem.
Ever since I upgraded to CC I have received this error after using Photoshop for more than 5 mins, or trying to performing tasks such as: placing a linked file, copying and pasting, dragging and dropping an image or even using "File>Open"
I did a complete system clean install of Yosemite, and reinstalled CC completely 3 times.
Any assistance in resolving would be greatly appreciated!

  • A different 'cannot complete your request - program error' problem

My experience is slightly different: When I go to save in Photoshop, an error message appears saying it cannot complete my request due ro a program error --- clicking OK does not make it go away.. I've used the trouble shooting suggestions and reinstalled. It just happened again.
This happened a month ago as well, but a restart solved the problem --- or so I thought!
I'm a long time Mac user and had never encountered this before.
Please help as I've spent the entire day trying to resolve this on my own and am behind on a project.
    Thanks for anything,
    Kathy

    Kathy,
Did you trash Photoshop's preferences? Run Disk Utility and DiskWarrior? Cocktail or Onyx? Try logging in as a new user?

  • Cannot create a Photoshop .pdf because of a "program error"

I make Photoshop .pdf files all the time, but today I couldn't create one. The original file was a large .psd image (26 mb). I get this error message: "Could not save as “sandybell for desert shakedown 02.pdf” because of a program error."
It doesn't say what error! However, I wonder if it's because the file is so large. I just tested Photoshop and made a .pdf file of a .png file that was 221k.
Is there a limit to the size of file you can make into a .pdf? If so, what is that limit?

Your file hardly qualifies as a "large file".  Its size is not the issue.
The error message is too vague to be of any help.  All it tells you that the failure was due to some program error as opposed to an OS or file corruption or hardware error.  Could be a missing support file, a faulty installation of the application, etc.

  • After installation CC, Photoshop will not open. Program error?

I got a subscription on Creative Cloud. Downloaded CC and Photoshop, but Photoshop will not open. After the splash-screen, it says something about a program error, and then it stops. I deleted CC and PS and reinstalled everything, but still the same result. I work on a Mac, and all software is up to date..

    1. try resetting your preferences:  hold down shift-ctrl-cmd while starting ps.  you'll see a confirmation dialog if done correctly.
    2. if that fails, uninstall, clean and reinstall following the help here, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

  • Photoshop Not Saving Due to Program Error

Just had a user unable to save a document. Didn't matter is it was to a local HD, server or even a USB Thumbdrive. We traced it down to a single Hue Saturation adjustment layer and layer mask. Once removed, the document saved.
Any ideas on what could cause this?
    Thanks,
    Scott Griswold
This is from the errorlog.txt which indicate times around the failed attamepts to save.

Reset the tool from the drop-down menu. If that doesn't help, reset your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

which version of Photoshop Elements are you using? Also, do tell us about the flavour of Operating System you are using and the format in which  you are trying to save your file.
You can also try saving your file to a different location( e.g. desktop) to check if your computer has any permission issues

  • Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

this was supplied by Ann Shelbourne.
Saved Tiffs will not open in CS2 and generate a "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
These files will often open in Photoshop 7.0.1 or in CS1 but not in CS2.
The trouble may be caused by bad dates in the EXIF data and can originate from an incorrectly-programmed digital camera; or from a scan that was created after after Jan1 of this year (because of a known bug in some scanner software).
If someone runs into the "Could not complete your request because of a program error" problem, and does not have CS1, try opening the Tiff in TextEdit.
The EXIF data is right at the top. Check the EXIF data for bad creation dates and change any incorrect ones there.
Save and close; and then the file will probably open in CS2 without a murmur.

    > If iPhoto causes problems why not open the images from the Finder?
I get the error if I open a file from within iPhoto using "OPen in external editor" and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
I get the error if I do "Show file" in iPhoto to see the file in the Finder. Then, if I double-click and it opens in PS, and then alter it (or do not alter it) and try to save it over itself, or save it anywhere else.
    > And with »save it anywhere« You indicate that You use the Save As-command?
    Right.

  • PSE9 does not open – cannot initialize because program error?

    Hello all,
I have Photoshop Elements 9 installed on my computer (MacBook Pro running Lion). However, I had not used it for a couple of months because I was using the CS6 beta, which finally expired. When I tried to open PSE9, the splash screen loads fine and finishes loading everything, but when it disappears I get a dialog of "Cannot open Photoshop Elements because of a program error."
This is while running on my main admin account. It opens normally on another admin account which I do not use often, except for some text encoding issues which were not present before.
I tried repairing permissions, but no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you very much.

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down CMD + alt/option + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
Solution 4: Remove tha TWAIN plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else if you have moved it in past.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/twain-installed-photoshop-elements-9.html
Now launch PSE and check if it works.
Any further info and clear steps would help further if not sorted. Also just to be on safe side if you can edit your admin name with normal letters (and not any localized one like in german or french) amd then try.
    Thanks,
    Garry

  • "Could not use the ***** because of a program error"

I'm using Photoshop CS CC on the new Mac which looks like a rubbish bin, and keep receiving "Could not use the ***** because of a program error". Does anyone know a work around or fix as I can't work with photoshop.

There seem to be recurring permissions errors for Photoshop running under OS X Mavericks. You might check into disk utility : repair permissions, or very carefully manually altering permissions here and there.
Not entirely sure this relates to your issue, but it might help:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1404674?tstart=0
    And  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1403095?tstart=120
And I'm sure you can search for several more threads related to permissions issues with Mavericks. I think Apple needs to do an update to Mavericks. But with careful permissions alteration, you can probably get PS working.
Once you're pretty secure in what permissions can change and what permissions should never change, you can Google a permissions utility called BatChmod. It rocks, is extremely powerful, and in the wrong hands can destroy your entire system.  :+)  So be careful ...

  • When downloading Iphone software update (version 4.0), I get error message

When downloading Iphone software update (version 4.0), I get error message (stopped err = -3259). Is there a solution for this???

    Did anyone solve this?
I'm still having this issue. I also had the same issue when trying to download a large update for an app (43MB). I can download and install smaller udpates but I can't even download the large updates. I've checked all of my firewall settings and they are fine. I've turned off the firewall when trying to download the update and it still does not work. It just keeps saying that my network connection timed out.
I'm not at the stage where I can't install new apps because it requires the latest OS version on my iphone which I can't get!
