Photoshop wants to install printer drivers

Hello this issue has been bugging me for a few days now and i can't seem to find help on it anywhere.
The firm I work for is an international design firm so we send .psd files back and forth from all of our offices.
Recently i've encountered an issue that seems to be related with saving a .psd file.
When one of our other offices saves the .psd file it apparently saves the printer information with it.
Now when our office here in the US wants to print this file, it prompts to install the printer that is located in our other office.
Is there a way to stop this from occuring? If we choose to not install the printer driver it takes what seems like eternity for the print dialog to appear.
If we do install the printer driver then when the computer starts up it tries to connect back to our other offices across the world, which takes forever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Seems like a VERY good candidate for a preference setting in a future version of Photoshop to me.
People with a simple / consistent work environment (e.g., single location, same printers always available) would want it set the way it is now, so that the print information they used last time for a given document will be there again.
People with a diverse / changing work environment (e.g., multiple locations, multiple printers) might prefer to see the last printer settings they used locally to be the default for the next print, even if it's a different document.
May I recommend submitting a feature request:  https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

    Hi Amitkumar,
given your scenario, this script is probably what you are looking for:

You will need to create separate device types for each printer family installed at your installation or if each printer family require either simplex or duplex printing.
    1. Go to ‘Spool Administration screen’ by using transaction code SPAD from the initial screen of SAP.
    2. From the SPAD screen choose menu path Utilities-->for device types --> IMPORT (or you can run RSTXSCRP program from SE38, too).
    3. In the initial screen of “SAPscript Export to Dataset/SAPscript Import from Dataset” enter the following:
    a) Check Radio button for device type.
    b) In the Object Name field enter object name of the device type file (please see the table at the end of this document for object names)
    c) MODE must be IMPORT
In the Ctrl parameters for file operation
    d) Check radio button for "From/on frontend" ( Generally this would be the default)
That's it. Don't enter anything else. Execute by clicking execute button or function key F8.
    4. In the “Create Object Directory Entry” window that pops up, enter your development class and press enter
    5. You will get a pop up Window “Import from a Local File”. Browse through the Window to enter the filename in your local directory and click ‘Transfer’ button.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is the current incarnation of Snow Leopard, and fixes various issues in earlier releases.
Current versions of Mac OS X 10.6 include the necessary printer driver for the Brother DCP-7030 printer (HT3669).  (The asterisk footnote on that printer indicates there was a recent update via Software Update, so get to current 10.6.8 and ensure the Brother printer software update has been selected and loaded.)
If you're on the current Mac OS X version and if have the Brother update loaded (from Apple) and if problems with the printer persist, then remove the printer from your current Mac OS X configuraton, and re-add it, and see if that clears the particular issue(s) you're having with this printer.
From experience, the Brother software for Mac OS X is a little odd, and the older software stuff (and particularly around the scanner controls for their multi-function series) were, um, unusual, and a little unstable.  Printing generally worked fine, though.  Recent versions of the Brother software are working better including for the scaller, but the UIs and the set-up are both still odd.  If you're using the box as a printer (I haven't looked at the DCP-7030 features), then you're best using the Brother software that arrives from Apple and not the software from Brother.
Also ensure the printer firmware is current.  That's corrected some odd behavior on some Brother printers.

  • I just switched from pc and want to get printer drivers to work with macbook air.  How do I do that?

I just switched from pc and want to get my HP all in one printer to work with macbook air.  Is it just as simple as downloading drivers from HP?

Turn the printer on and plug the printer into the MBA and your mac should install the printer for you (usually any necessary drivers too).  I had a printer I used on a pc and I plugged it into my macs usb port and my mac automatically recognized it and took care of everything for me.  If you do this and it wont print, then yes go to the HP website the install latest drivers for 10.7
Also, as a new mac user you should find these articles helpful:

  • No pre installed printer drivers in Lion (for a while)

    Hi,
i was trying to connect through a network to a brother printer. when i did this as usual i can find the PC on the network and also the printer.
however, when i try to chose the driver in the "chose printer software" menu it was completely empty.
i am writing this is past tense, because while i am typing this i checked it again and it is now completey populated with printer models to chose from as i was used to from MacOSX 10.6.
Just thought maybe other people will find this also and worry for a few hours like me. this way its best to go shopping or clear some other things, as i guess it will be taken care of.
I did install the MacOSX 10.7.1 update in the mean time and maybe that was what did the trick.

  • Can i custom install printer drivers later?

hello all. i just got a new HD for my macbook and i'm custom installing Mac OS X to save disk space i'm tight on. I'm not installing the extra language stuff and printer drivers. However, I was wondering if I find down the road that I need some printer drivers, can i just install them later with my Mac OS X disk (without having to do a reinstall of the entire OS)?
I'm still relatively new to the mac world, so sorry for the ignorance!
    Thanks!

    entire OS)?
Absolutely. You can install them using the "Optional Installs.pkg" that should be on your install disk. If you don't find "Optional Installs.pkg" you can find the individual packages in /System/Installation/Packages. If it is the Gimp-Print/Gutenprnt drivers that you want, get the latest from the project page.

  • Is there a way to only install print drivers plus HP Solution center?

I have a HP PSC 1510v AIO printer.  I just re-installed Windows XP Pro and would like to install the software.  However, I do not want all the other software installed, only the print drivers and the HP Solution Center.  I have downloaded the print drivers from the HP website, but cannot find only the HP SC.
Can anybody tell me if this is possible, and if so, how do I get the HP SC software?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Still no-go.  Here is what I did:
1- Uninstall all HP software (I only have the 1510 printer from HP)
    2- Reboot
3- Run the 4 batch files that remove HP stuff.
    4- Reboot
5- Run regedit and delete all known HP references.  Some I was not sure about, so I left those alone.
6- Run CCleaner and the registry cleaner portion.
    7- Reboot
8- Reinstall the software using the CD with the software.
What I end up with is the printer works and Solution Center will start, but it shows "No device found".  From there, if I try to install the printer, it locks up the computer when the install software is searching for the printer.  I left this run for 60 minutes, so I am allowing enough time for it to install.  BTW, in step #8 above, the install directory shows as the directory I specified in the very first install I did, so all the uninstallling I am doing is not getting every last bit.
    I am stuck!  Any ideas?

    Hello,

    Hey @Polda18,
Generally the error 'an install operation took too long to execute' is related to system files on your actual computer. There should be no reason you would need to increase the RAM on your computer. Cleaning up the registry is not a bad idea but I'm going to suggest a few more steps first under your normal User Account.
Step 1: Install Using HP Smart Install:
    1. Press the Power button or switch to turn off the product, if it is not off already.
    2. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer, if you already connected it.
    3. Press the Power button or switch to turn on the product.
    4. Reconnect the USB cable to the product and to the computer
The HP Smart Install program should start automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Should this also fail, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Disable Smart Install:
On the front panel of your printer select the 'Setup' button (the wrench)
Under the Setup menu right arrow over to Service Menu and select OK
Under Service Menu right arrow to 'Smart Install' and select OK
Under Smart Install please turn OFF this feature and select OK
Once Smart Install is disabled, proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Run a Selective Startup on the Computer:
Click on your Start menu and in the 'search programs and files' box type msconfig and hit enter
A System Configuration Utility box will now open. Under the 'general' window select 'Selective Startup' and only uncheck 'Load Startup Items'
Click on the 'Services' tab at the top
At the very bottom select the checkbox for 'Hide all Microsoft Services'
Select 'Disable All' on the right
Select Apply and then OK and restart your computer when prompted
Step 4: Run an SFC /SCANNOW:
This is a scan that will run on your computer. Should it identify any system corruption it will tell you. Should the scan request that you insert your Operating System disk it does indicate that you have a corruption of your actual computer and your Operating System will need to be reinstalled.
Go to your Start menu and type CMD
CMD will populate as an option above, right click on this and 'run as admin'
When Command Prompt opens type sfc /scannow and hit enter
Allow the scan to complete and take note of any errors it may fine
Restart your computer once the scan is complete
    Step 5: Run Windows Updates:
Please ensure that all your Windows Updates have been completed.
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
If any updates are found, click Install updates.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    Install Windows updates
Once these steps are complete try to install your software and drivers again. Please let me know if these steps resolved the issue. Should you end up getting any other error messages please let me know. Good luck!

  • How to install printer drivers manually?

When I installed Leopard, I opted not to install any printer drivers apart from the one for my own printer.
Then my printer died and I got a new printer -- a Brother HL-4070CDW. I assumed I could download the proper driver from Brother's website. Nope! At the website it just says, "Mac OSX 10.5 contains the appropriate printer drivers for your product."
Using Pacifist I was able to extract a folder called BrotherPrinterDrivers from the Leopard install disks. But that folder contains a bunch of files, and I have no idea where to install them on my machine.
Any help from someone who with a good understanding of printer drivers in Leopard would be greatly appreciated.

    Gabriel,
If you do not know where to place them using Pacifist, Follow the instructions listed in this link. Expand the Printer Drivers by clicking on the disclosure arrow, and choose the appropriate manufacturer.
Although the document I linked describes 10.4 installations the procedure will be the same for 10.5 You will find the Optional Installs.mpkg inside the Optional Installs folder.

  • Installing Printer drivers ONLY?

so... when i installed leopard i figgered i'd save some drive space by not installing ALL those printer drivers, just the hp's (i only ever owned hps). recently i inherited a brother hl 1440 (a monochrome laser). i went to the brother web site to find the driver, and the site says that the driver is on the leopard install disk.
so i went into the installer, and as far as i can tell, there is NO way to just install drivers without doing a re-install of the OS. i thought you USED to be able to quit the installer and just find the package, but leopard doesn't seem to allow that anymore.
any ideas on how to get the brother drivers off the leopard install disk??
    TIA

Here's the driver for 10.4, which you could try to see if it works:
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/dlf/000000/002100/d lf002189.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=hl1440_all&type2=1&os=26&flang=4&dlid=dlf 002189
My guess is that it should work fine, especially since it's the CUPS driver, which is an open source driver that's not platform-specific. CUPS is built into 10.4 and 10.5.

  • Cannot install printer drivers

I have a Canon MP20 I bought from Apple a few years ago. I have recently upgraded my computer (2009 MPB) to Mountain Lion and have the printer connected to an Airport Extreme. The Print & Scan prefpane sees the printer and starts going though the motions of connecting me and installing the dirvers.
At first it tells me “The selected printer software is available from Apple. Click Add to download it and add this printer.” (image)
    I do.
I get a progress bar telling me the computer is “Finding software…” (image)
I then get an error message telling me, “Can’t install the software for the Canon MP620 series because it is not curently available from the Software Update server.” (image)
This appears to contradict the first messsage and leaves me unable to setup the printer.

More info: I just this minute installed the latest Canon inkjet printer drivers, found here. No change.

  • To do or not to do install printer drivers during installation

    Hi there
I wonder, does it make any difference whether you install drivers for your printer in the beginning of your OS installation? I mean I always uncheck all the printer drivers in "customize" options before installing my Leopard/Tiger, but does it make any difference if I do install just the drivers for lexmark printers (my printer is lexmark) when I can later install just the driver for my printer, which consumes much less space on my drive.. The question is if my printer will print even if I uncheck all printer drivers including Lexmark during OS installation and install the driver for my printer later.. ?
    thanx

This is a perfect solution and the way I do it also. It means you only install the latest driver for the printer you are currently using.
The functionality you lose by not doing this is allowing OS X to auto detect and install a driver for a new printer it detects via bonjour.
If this is not an issue for you, then your best to uncheck and save the space on your hard drive. If you add a new printer at a later date, just download the latest driver (as the one supplied at install is likely to be out of date).
The exception is HP, as at this time is supplies updates to it drivers via software update.
