Photoshop will not launch

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.  I installed Creative Suite 4 Design Standard.  Ilustrator and InDesign run well, but Photoshop will not launch.  Do I need to uninstall the entire suite and reinstall it again, or can I just reinstall Photoshop?

I downloaded updates from your website and Photoshop is now running.

CS4 works just fine on Snow Leopard (even CS3).  Lion has some bugs that
cause problems with older versions. And we need to know more about why you
can't launch Photoshop. What error message do you get?

  • Photoshop will not launch. Window indicates need JAVA SE6. Already have it, but re-installed. Photoshop will still not launch. Help! MacOS 10.10.1

Since installing Mac OS 10.10.1 photoshop will not run, it will not launch. A window indicates that it needs JAVA SE6 to run. JAVA SE6 is installed. I have re-installed and restarted but photoshop will not run and I get the same message window that I need to install JAVA SE6. How do I make this work?

Have you added any Photoshop Add-on that uses an external JavaScript.  Photoshop itself has is own ScriptingSupport Plug-in and does not use an external java.  Also Java SE6 is old and has security issues you should update to version SE8

  • New boot drive - Photoshop will not launch

I recently cloned my boot drive onto an SSD, which I now use as my boot drive. Everything works fine except when I try to launch Photoshop, I get an error that says, "Could not intialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
I have both CS6 through Creative Cloud, and CS5. Neither will launch and both give the same error message.
I tried searching for a similar problem on the forum, but I didn't see anything. If this has already been addressed somewhere, please point me in the right direction. Otherwise, any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am running Mac OS X 10.8, and I've repaired permissions several times on my new boot drive.
    Thanks.

You could try resetting preferences by starting PS and immediately holding down Cmd + Option + Shift keys.  You should get a reset window.
Some users get in trouble when files are moved from default settings after installation.  Also, Bridge will not work if temp file is not on boot drive.
Don't know how the cloud works.  Think it is installed on computer?  If so if above does not work unistall and re-install might be next step.

  • Adobe product improvement program turn off? photoshop will not launch.

I launched photoshop and a window popped up... "Help improve adobe products"      Do not participate    Participate
regardless of either one photoshop is all grayed out under the windows and will not start...

Could mean that you do not have sufficient user privileges/ file permissions and the info for your choice cannot be stored, hence it pops back over and over....

  • I have a problem with external editing preferences where Photoshop will not launch when I choose "Edit In"...

Hi. I have a problem with external editing preferences. If I add Photoshop as an external editor, it won't launch when selected, if I add it as an additional external editor it will. Why? How can I fix this as I need to use Photoshop and another program as the additional external editor.
I use a Mac running OS X (10.8.5) and PS CS4 and LR 5.7. Any ideas on a fix? Thanks in advance.

I don't know why Photoshop won't start. However, it's possible to create external editor presets using the additional external editor tools. There are instructions on how to do this in the Lightroom help. You could assign Photoshop and create one preset, and then assign another program and create another preset.
I don't know if deleting your preferences would fix the problem or not. It can sometimes fix other problems.

  • My InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop will not launch - error number 213:19

    Can someone please help me?
After attempting Launch all three applications I was sent error 123:19 and asked to restart my computer however it has still come up.
What does this mean and how do I fix it

I think this is a permissions issue. Are you using an account with Adminsitrator or restricted permissions?
Are the the applications fully patched? That's helps some users with this error. If you can launch any of the CS5.5 programs you should be ale to launch the Adobe Updater from the Help menu, otherwise try downloading the latest patches manually for each application from the Adobe.com website.
Finally, see http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/licensing-problem.html This particular article is for Photoshop Elements, but it appears to be generic in application.
If all else fails, uninstall, run the clean tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall.

  • Photoshop will not launch. Any ideas?

I have CS 2 loaded on a Mac G5 OS 10.4.11.  All was fine until this morning when I got a dialog upon launch saying there was a "serious error detected. The software needs to be reinstalled," or something very close to that.  I did the uninstall process, then reinstalled.  Got the same dialog box. Uninstalled again, and now when I double click on the installer icon, the icon expands and the page expands for a second as if it is going to launch, but then does not.
I called Adobe, but they say they no longer support CS2.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    System Maintenance...
    Repair permissions
Boot from the OS DVD and repair Disk
    Try again....
    Still nothing...
Trash your preferences and reinstall again.

  • Creative Cloud Creative Cloud Photoshop installs but will not launch

Hi, my Creative Cloud Photoshop latest version installs but will not launch. When I try it opens a page with a long error code report. I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop several times with the same result. I downloaded and tried the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, as I found as a solution in the help forum, but since I uninstalled Photoshop before I ran the Cleaner Tool there are installed applications, and AdobeCreativeCloudDriver. Should I hit the clean all CS6 button at the bottom of the window. There is nothing including Photoshop in this list.

  • Photoshop CS4 will not launch after installing Yosemite.

Photoshop CS4 will not launch after installing Yosemite. All the other CS4 apps open. I upgraded Java. Genius Bar could not get it to launch.

Here's the fix I found, by way of an explanation...
Snow Leopard prompted me on my first startup with the following error:
"There is a conflict with the _______ font file. This font file contains a font name that conflicts with a system font required by Mac OS X to display onscreen text. You should move this font file to the Trash."
The fonts it said were conflicting: Helvetica, HelveticaNeue.dfont, Lucida Grande, and Monaco. I figured Snow Leopard probably wanted to replace these fonts with newer versions, and so I clicked "Move to Trash" on all four.
Apparently 10.6 trashed these fonts but didn't replace them. This was causing Photoshop to crash on load.
So I restored my ~/Library/Fonts folder from a backup made just before upgrading and this time after a reboot I said "Allow Conflict" on all four dialog boxes and launched Photoshop... everything is back to normal!
Not sure what kind of "conflict" it's referring to, but apparently moving these font files to the trash as OS X prompted me to do broke a number of apps. Should I report this as a bug?
    Thanks for the ideas!

  • Photoshop CS5 will not launch

Photoshop CS5 will not launch either from the desktop or program list. The only way to launch is to log out and restart the computer. At the end of each session I reset the preferences in the Workspace.  I am running Win 7 ultimate with 4GB of ram. System is 64 bit .  Display is ATI Radeon HD  5700 series. Adapter type is AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x68B8). The computer has an Intel(R) series/3400 Chipset Family.
When I installed from the disk I received the message  Exit Code 6, 0 fatal errors, 21 errors, 1 warning. I have reinstalled several times and still get the same message. Tried disabling start up items while installing but same message.

One thing that sort of jumps out at me, regarding running the program, is that 4GB of RAM. With a 64-bit OS, 4GB is just about the minimum to run the OS, with little to nothing left over for a program, like Photoshop. I would bump that up, and to 12 - 16GB, if possible.
For the installation, I think that Mylenimum has posted some very useful links.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop CC will not launch after deleting and re-installing Lightroom

Yesterday, I contacted Adobe support because I could not get my Lightroom trial version to convert to my CC subsciption. I was told to delete the Lightroom app by dragging it to the trash and re-installing. I did this, and it fixed my problem with Lightroom, but now my Photoshop CC will not launch. I am on Mac OS Mountain Lion. I have tried launching from the dock and from the finder both.

Reinstall the original 5.2 and forget the CC version for now. It's exactly the same piece of software. What you did get was a second license, useful if you have more than two machines, but completely redundant if you haven't.
The situation is different when Lr 6 comes out. You'll get that as part of CC and don't need to purchase the upgrade. So at that point you can just install CC and leave 5.x where it is.
