Photoshop won't launch, closes on start.

We have photoshop version 5.5 on one PC (XP) and VS 7.0 on another and though they are old they worked happily for years till just lately, now both fail to launch, "Adobe Photoshop has encountered a problem and needs to close" ??? What could be wrong ?
Help is apreciated.

"Are Photoshop and OS fully updated.."
Not ph shop because it can't be opened, OS - yes
"  and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop,  just tried that - no luck 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, can't deactivate beacus can't open ph shop.
system maintenance, I think that is pretty much done font validation, don't know what that is -  surely can't be something like that  ??)
Looking thru Program files found version 5.0 that wont' open either. Remember, the old versions have been sitting in there for some years with 7.0 working fine. A second PC here has 7.0 on it and it stopped working as well - same behaviour. We have a older PC here as well we hardly use (XP pro as well), it has 7.0 on it which works fine(!!).
Anyone? :O)

  • Photoshop won't launch

For some reason Photoshop will not launch.
This is on a G4 dual 867 Mac 1.75 GB RAM Mac OSX 10.4.11
I had CS3 working fine for a long time and things were fine....
but it has recently stopped launching. When it stopped launching I deleted and uninstalled all Adobe products and tried re-installing Photoshop 7.0 that didn't work either. Still won't launch. Repaired permissions and restarted multiple times.
Ran Disk Warrior just for grins... still won't launch.
Deleted all preference files... still won't launch.
tried re-installing again... still won't launch.
Tried launching from a different user account just to see if the user account may be corrupt but it still didn't launch.
Adobe Image ready will run after installing off of the 7.0 disk but photoshop will not.
    any ideas?

Here is the crash report... if it helps.

  • Photoshop won't launch all of a sudden

I'm using Photoshop CS4 on a MacBook Pro OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). It's worked for quite a long time with no issues and now (seemingly out of the blue) it won't launch. Here is part of the report I get when it doesn't launch:
Can anyone make any sense of that? Thanks!

Sorry...posting the report didn't work the first time. Here it is. To see it large enough to read you need to click on it for an enlarged view. Thanks.

  • After Migration to new iMac, old Photoshop won't launch

I used the Migration Assistant in Firewire Target Disk Mode to transfer my old Apps and files and folders from my intel Macbook to my new 24" iMac. I had to do it several times since it transferred Applications okay, and all the folders, but the folders were empty on the new machine. I finally had to drag and drop the contents of most folders. Everything seems to be working okay now except for one glaring failure. My old Photoshop 7.0.1, which was working just fine in Rosetta on the Macbook, no longer works at all. It will not even launch. I get an error message that due to an "unrecoverable error" in programming, Photoshop will close now, almost as soon as it tries to start. I have a number of other Power PC applications (even Adobe ones) of similar vintage that are working just fine. I tried reinstalling the Application entirely (still have all my old Apps!), but it had no effect on the failure to launch. I checked with Adobe and they declined to support such an old version. Any ideas on what could be causing this that I might check? Having blown all my money on the new iMac I really cannot afford to purchase a new Photoshop right now.

Photoshop 7 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 and Adobe offers no fix. You'll need to upgrade.

  • Photoshop won't launch after reboot

    Hi Adobians!
For some time I'm having an issue with PS CC: Every second time I reboot my system, PSCC does not open up, though the process is in the task manager. Everytime I try to relaunch PS, another process appears. Closing any number of then will not result in a successful launch. Funny thing is it works after reboot of the machine, but the next time I reboot, it won't work. So I basically started to reboot my machine twice... but there must be another solution.
My System is an ASUS ROG G750 Notebook with Win7 64bit installed.
I have not reinstalled Photoshop yet, since I would prefer to find a solution for this problem rather than find a way to work around it.

  • Updated to OS X 10.7.5 now photoshop won't launch

updated to OS X 10.7.5 now photoshop (whole adobe suite) not launching  - takes me to a window requesting serial number - in my brother's storage somewhere....basically lost forever! what now?

If you registered the program, sign in with your Adobe ID and password, go to "My Adobe, look under "My Products" and the serial number should be there.

  • Flash, After Effects and Photoshop won't launch!!

    Hi,
I've been a CC member for quite some time now, and recently I've had to re-install Windows 7 due to a major crash. Getting almost back to normal, I installed all the apps (above) which are required for my average day job. Only this time none of them will even launch, they don't show the splash screen anymore. Is there a fix for this?
    I'm running :-
    Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1)
    GTX 680 - driver v335.23
I've signed out the CC panel, tried running but nothing happens. I saw another thread suggesting renaming OOBE, which I did and then I do get an error. I have also tried to uninstall the programs but I can't, it won't allow me as there are no un-install files in the folders.
    Please help, arghhhhhh
    Scott

Any ideas on what could be wrong, I forgot to add that Lightroom does launch! I haven't tried my other Apps. I'm thinking this might be a graphics card issue!?

  • I have just installed Mavericks and Photoshop won't launch-Program error.

I just installed Mavericks to a new Macbook Pro, then installed a fresh copy of CS5.1. Everything works except Photoshop CS5.1, which fails with a "Program error". I've stripped out everything Adobe, Re-installed , re-entering serial number, tried Adobe Suite Cleaner Tool. Still the same. Any more thoughts?

    Try this...
Open System Preferences > Flash Player
Deselect:   Block all sites from storing information on this computer

  • Windows 10 Apps won't launch

It seems like none of my Win10 Apps want to launch and load up. I hit the icon for the app and it appears to start but it closes itself around 1s after launching. Xbox, Mail and others won't start. They were working fine until I changed some settings in
the Mail and it went bad from there.
I know there was a Command I could use in shell to manually uninstall/install each app but I can't seem to find it.
    Anyone have a solution?
P.S Launching from the Taskbar or the Start Menu  doesn't work, and the Store (Beta) doesn't launch either.

You should reread the OP. xHDx is asking about Modern apps, the issue you
posted about, as is clearly stated, is referring to old style Win32 apps
and not the Modern ones. Your post isn't helping here.

    sorry, I misread.
another workaround for win32 program on start menu is run them as admin.

  • Lightroom 4.4 suddenly won't launch

been using this program for years.  suddenly it won't launch from ANY start location
    windows 7 service pack 1
    lightoom 4
    photoshop CC

So I've had no answers to this problem. I've tried deleting the.plist file - this resulted in a promising couple of screens that confirmed my licence numbers etc. but still the application won't open.  I'm beyond frustrated and wonder now is there any actual customer service at Adobe I can contact for assistance.

  • Photoshop CS6 won't launch and when it does it's really slow...help?

    Hi,
So my copy of Photoshop CS6 sometimes won't launch and when it does manage to launch fully, it's really slow. I mean ridiculously slow. The only times when I can get it to run even remotely quick is if I shut down my computer, and then restart it and then start up Photoshop CS6 as the first program. Even then it slows down after a while. (And I only have a firefox browser open usually, never more than a couple of tabs at once, so it's not a bandwidth issue)
    Here are my comp specs:
    Samsung
    Processor:
    AMD A6-3420M APU with
Radeon (Tm) HD graphics 1.50 ghz
    Installed Memory (RAM) - 4.00 (3.48 usable)
64 Bit operating System running on Windows 7 home premium, service pack 1
I also did just recently install the new update Adobe had for Photoshop, so that's up to date.
It's getting really frustrating! I have another program I'm using in the meantime (Paint tool Sai), but I'd really like to use Photoshop CS6.....
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you updated the drivers from AMD's website, not Microsoft.
Make sure you are running the 64 bit version of Photoshop, not 32 bit.
Disable all third party plugins, and try disabling system utilities (we've seen font managers, antivirus, disk backup software, etc. cause slowdowns due to bugs in those utilities).

  • All of a sudden Photoshop won't start [on a Macbook Air]

    Dear all,
I'm on a MacBook Air with OS X 10.10.2, and I use Photoshop about once a month, but now I really need it, and it won't start:
    - Immediately after I click on the Photoshop icon I get "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 cannot be opened because of a problem." And when I click on the "Report..." button I get a very technical message (see below).
    - I've used Photoshop on this machine for about a year with no problem, but recently I had a problem and needed to restore from my TimeMachine backup.
    - I don't know if the problem occurred immediately after the restore or not.
    - I've read innumerable threads on various forums, but nothing describes my problem exactly. I suspect a problem with my paths and permissions (since I read a report that restoring from a TimeMachine causes such problems occasionally), but I don't know which path is corrupted/missing/unreadable.
    - I've tried creating a new admin account and starting Photoshop from there. It didn't work.
    - I don't mind reinstalling, but I don't have an installer image. I started with Photoshop 6, then updated to CS2, CS4 and eventually CS5. I do have all the serial numbers but not all update-images.
I would appreciate any hints on how to further diagnose and some the problem.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Restore preference files to default
In this video, learn the two methods of resetting your preference files back to default: Manual preference file removal and Keyboard Shortcut method (starts at 5:05)
    by Julieanne Kost
To restore preferences quickly using a keyboard short cut:
Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.
Note: Using the keyboard shortcut, preference files for custom shortcuts, workspaces, and color setings will also be reset to default.

  • Adobe CC won't launch, Photoshop freezes immediately after launch, help!

Hello, I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this issue. It started with Photoshop CC freezing, as in spinning color wheels of death immediately after launch. I have tried launching with a file, without a file, from Lightroom, independently, nothing works, but spinning wheel until I force quit.
So I tried to update, thinking it wpould help. Adobe CC won't launch at all, no error message, no force quit, just nothing happens. I tried uninstalling both, but unistall just hangs, bouncing in the dock for all eternity until I force quit. The Adobe Application Manager will not launch, and also hangs until a force quit.
The machine is a MacPro OSX 10.7.5 with 3.2 GHz Quad-Core 8GB with no other issues. I have done no updates, no new programs, apps, fonts or plugins in weeks, and the Adobe CC stuff has been working until two days ago. No other issues with the machine I have noticed, and Lightroom and PS CS6 are both working as usual. Restarts have no effect.
I have attempted to start PS CC using command-shift-option thinking the preferences might be causing an issue, but got the same hanging result. Renaming the OOBE file has not worked. Help!

Have you had any luck with this? I've been experiencing the same since Creative Cloud started... happens with all creative cloud apps. I removed the creative cloud desktop app as that was the most troublesome and would often hang everything after waking from sleep. Helped a little but waking from sleep still creates the issue and I have to restart the computer. If I do get an app working and I go to update through the help menu, that app hangs. I've read in other discussions that you need to change the user (which is ******** and very time consuming) but like an idiot I did that and... surprise, suprise, same problem. Never seen adobe come back on this one.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 Won't launch

My motherboard died.  I put a new motherboard in and have been reinstalling the OS (Windows 7 Professional) and reinstalling all of the programs.  I successfully re-downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 and entered my license key and it installs.  When I launched it, it came up to the welcome screen, but when I try to open the Organizer or the Editor, it won't launch!  I switched to startup in the Organizer versus the Welcome Screen and now it won't launch at all!
I uninstalled the program and tried reinstalling.  It installed, but the program will not launch!

    Hi,
Try starting the two applications directly by creating shortcuts to the following files.
    Organizer: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements 13 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
    Editor "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
If you need help with creating the shortcuts then come back and I will explain how to do it.
