Photoshop wrong color with every screenshot

hi,
i'm using ps cc 2014, and have the problem that every time i make a screenshot from photoshop, the colors get pale. the same problem occurs even in illustrator. the color settings in photoshop and illustrator are the same.
System is a Win 7 64 Bit. the problem only occur in Adobe Tools. thx for help!

Hi guys, your'e great!
the problem seems to be that the wrong color space was assigned to the display, and all the files from photoshop and illustrator have no color space assigned. first i add the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 to the display, and set this as default profile. sorry all dialogs are german :-)
no changes here
for photoshop i changed the settings as shown:
in illustrator are the settings now:
now, each time i open a file (PNG, etc.) in photoshop or illustrator, i have to assign the sRGB color space manually, but then, there is no color shift when i do screenshots an paste them back. after assigning the sRGB colorspace to the display inside the windows colormangement, it works fine in photoshop, but not in illustrator. After changing the settings for illustrator as shown above and assigning the sRGB colorspace manually to the file when opening, then it works fine in illustrator.
thanks for your help, you saved my day!!!

  • My workspace background changes color with every key stroke (black, gray, transparent)

In addition, when I use File>Place, the image comes in solid black until I accept the Free Transform.  I am using Windows 8/PC.

Best guess is that there is an issue with your video card (most likely needs the driver updated). Go to Preferences > Performance and uncheck the "Use Graphics Processor" option in the lower right under Graphics Processor Settings. Relaunch Photoshop and see if you still run into the same issue.

  • Wrong colors with canon pixma ip 4000

    Hi!
We have a canon pixma ip 4000 printer, that has worked fine in the past.
Suddenly the photos printed with the printer are somewhat yellowish/greenish (especially faces or other skin). We have tried everything: Changing the cartridges, cleaning the head, reinstalling the drivers.
Then we have called the canon-support. After 20+ minutes of trying everything they said (we have deinstalled the drivers, reinstalled new ones, tests of all different kinds) we tried the printer with another mac and we still had the same problems.
So the canon guy said, the printer was obviously not in order and told us to send it in. We did so and received it back with the note, that no defect could be found.
Back home we connected it to the mac and: Still the exact same problem.
Our mac dealer said, another client has reported the same problem, but he connected the printer to a windows machine and "ta dah" it worked!
    So my question is:
Is there a known problem with macos 10.4 and this printer (maybe a problem that came with a certain os patch?) ??
    Thanks in advance!
    Thomas

    Hello Thomas,
I have a few Canon PIXMA's at work (iP5200R, MP600R, iP6000D, Pro 9000) and I have never experienced this output on 10.4, so I don't believe that any update/patch is at fault.
Is there a particular application you notice this from? There has been a few postings with Aperture users re yellowish tints.
Also, what is the color option set to in the driver? Looking at the iP6000D driver (which I believe may be a similar version) the Color Correction setting is at BJ Standard. Here you can play with the Color Balance, such as knock the yellow down.

  • Unable to change/reset colors with open document in Photoshop CC 2014

I have the 2014.2.2 release of Photoshop CC 2014 and am suddenly unable to change or reset colors with an open document. I get a "Could not complete your request because of a program error" message. After closing the document (or before opening one) I can change colors okay. But not with a document open.

OK, then resetting Photoshop's preferences is the next thing to try. But first, save a copy of the existing preferences - we may need them to figure out what is going wrong.
See this page for ways to reset your prefs: Photoshop Help | Preferences

  • Photoshop CS5 building Histograms with every file change

I am working in Photoshop CS5 on a MacPro with Snow Leopard, 10.6.4. I have a file that is a little over a gigabyte open. Every time I make any changes to the file (i.e. select a different layers, grab the text tool, etc.) a menu pops up with a progress bar and says it is building the histgrams. This process happens with EVERY move. As you can imagine, this has slowed my productivity down to a crawl. Can I do anything to make it stop rebuilding the histograms at every step?

  • DNG files rendered with wrong color profile?

Does someone else also have a problem with DNG (digital negative) files showing incorrect colors when opened in Apple software (Preview, iPhoto, Aperture..)?
I have a Nikon D750 and currently consider using DNG as archive format for my RAW files.
But the converted DNG files are shown with a wrong color profile when opened via Apple's own camera raw framework...
It works in Adobe software - such as Lightroom - but any software using the OS X internal camera raw framework seems to use the wrong color profile when opening the DNG. Note that the original D750 NEF files are opened and rendered correctly.
I am using OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 with the latest Camera Raw Compatibility Update 6.02 installed.
On the Adobe side, it is Lightroom 5.7 and DNG Converter 8.7.1.
I tried all kinds of different conversion settings. It does not seem to make a difference whether I embed preview images in the DNG or not, whether I shoot in 12 or 14bit RAW, and whether I include the original RAW file into the DNG or not. I also tried to explicitly select the 'Camera Standard' color profile in Lightroom first and then export the DNG, but still on the OS X side the resulting image looks wrong as compared to the original NEF.
Any other Nikon user here who could verify my problems?

A few simple tests on your end may help you better understand:
    1. Capture the same image (same camera settings in RAW and JPEG)
    2. Open these images in Canon DPP - they will be a close match, this is because Canon DPP and the Canon camera itself use similar RAW processing algorithms
    3. Open convert the CR2 to DNG, and open the CR2, DNG, and JPEG in Adobe Camera RAW - the CR2 and DNG should be a very close (if not identical) match if you use the same processing settings for each, since they are both being processed by ACR's algorithms; the JPEG will probably not match as it was processed with Canon's algorithms
What you are seeing is at the HEART of raw processing, and has nothing to do with color spaces or with DNG being at fault. The very nature of RAW processing means every processor (DPP, ACR, CaptureOne, etc) will produce different results by default - that's not to say that with some adjustments you can't match one processor's results to another, but it won't be the case by default.
The choice of RAW processor has FAR more an impact on your results than color space - in fact color space should have virtually no visual impact, though depending on the scene photographed you might have better gradations in some color spaces, better handling of highly saturated colors in some, but the overall look should remain close regardless of color space choice.
Further, as has been pointed out by others, raw files (which includes CR2 and DNG) do not have a color space - raw files are by definition raw image data which has yet to be processed into a color space. When you see color space assignments in RAW processors, that is relevant to the files you create FROM the raw files, not relevant to the raws themselves.
Before bringing inflammatory language and false assumptions to a forum with a high level of expert membership you might want to research the issue, and devise some simple tests (like above) to help you understand the issue first.

Hi, The options bar shows sample size 101 by 101 Average. That was my problem. When I was troubleshooting in order to try to explain to you what was happening, I noticed that when I sampled my models teeth, it gave me a color a bit lighter than her lipstick as my foreground color in my tool box. That started me thinking in the correct way. I didn't realize that my sample size had somehow gotten switched from point sample to 101 by 101 average. I appreciate the help. Thank you.

  • Photoshop CS5: Any color with zero red information will turn black

I've been having this problem ever since I installed Photoshop CS5 (12.0.4) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. I've used the program on a Windows Vista 64-bit PC in the past with no problems.
Any color that has zero red information will turn black when in RGB mode and in either 8 or 16-bit mode. If I use the paintbrush, for example, a color with RGB 0/100/100 will be black. However, the color 1/100/100 will not. This problem also occurs with imported images. I've only tried JPEG and PNG so far. The problem does not save out though, as any image exported from Photoshop will appear fine. The issue seems to go away when in 32-bit mode, but it's a little RAM-intensive, and the file sizes are quite large.
I have reinstalled Photoshop, reset its preferences, and reinstalled my video card's drivers (I have a Radeon HD 7870). My PC has 8 GB of RAM and plenty of free hard drive space.
Below is a screencap of what's going on. I'm a bit lost here...any help would be greatly appreciated!

    It's a well-known issue with current ATI drivers and Photoshop's GPU-accelerated color-management logic.
You can work around it a couple of different ways:
    1.  You can install ATI's latest Catalyst 13.2 beta driver, which does solve the problem, or you can uninstall and drop back to Catalyst 12.8.
    2.  You can switch to Basic GPU mode (and restart Photoshop).  Basic mode moves the color-management logic into the CPU.  This might be a workaround you'd prefer to take until AMD releases their next non-beta driver where the problem is solved.

  • Images Shown In Wrong Colors

    Hello,
I have a problem in Lightroom.
I just Lightroom 3 a try, only it turns out the colors of the images aren't displayed correctly.
It gives this darker and sort off green-heavy version of the originals.
It's kind of funny cause they look like film-photos developed badly or something.
Anyway, some time ago I tried an earlier version of Lightroom and I think at first the colors were fine,
later it turned into what I just described because I believe I touched something.
So does anyone know how I can get the colors to be displayed correctly?
Please note, I did a fresh install of Lightroom and removed anything Lightroom-related before.
And all colors  outside Lightroom or even the look of the panels of Lightroom and such are correct.
So all image-viewers, all videos, all other media... they all look right.
Even in Photoshop, where I had a similar issue too but it was some colorspace-setting or something.
But apparently Lightroom doesn't have that?
Oh, AND I found that when I'm at the import-interface, the thumbnails of the images are shown correctly.
Then when I select the ones I want and actually import them to use they're not the same anymore.
If anyone has a clue, or the solution of course, that would be great.
Cause this is really unfortunate, I was looking forward to using this,
especially now I have a camera that supports RAW, I wanted to develop them in Lightroom.
(Oh yeah, the images I tried were simply JPEG-photos by the way.)
    Greetings...

OK, I understand it quite a bit better now, thanks for all your posts.
But I did have an issue with Photoshop (CS3 as in the screenshot) a couple of months ago.
I'm not sure what it looked like, but it was also this issue with wrong colors.
Then I messed around with those "Proof"-settings and set it to the "monitor"-one.
I guess that's the same as using no color-profiles? As they (Ps & Lr) look identical now I mean...
I'm not sure what it was set to before by the way, I think it was set to a certain profile too.
Then I kinda steered away from choosing a profile and selected that "monitor"-option I guess.
Sorry, can't remember exactly, but you probably know what I mean.
At least I can go ahead a bit with Lightroom now.
As long as I keep the original shots I guess there can't go much wrong.
Also, if I print something, would it be a good idea to match the look of the monitor closer to the print?
At least, if it's off way too much. Or should I check if a specific printer uses no or a correct profile too somewhere?
I do have a nice standalone which is set to sRGB too I believe.
It is funny that I get the prints almost exactly to what they look like on the monitor or camera.
Anyway, I háve been playing around with something called RivaTuner,
which can tweak and load color-profiles on startup, I guess it's similar to what calibration-software would be like?
But I think I turned the loading of those settings off a while ago too though.
Cause it was always "a tad too red, a tad too blue, a tad too green" or whatever for my eyes,
so I thought I'd stop messing with it and leave it neutral which would probably be better anyway...

  • Eyedropper in PS CS6 picking wrong color

My eyedropper started picking the wrong color!  I ahve reset and reinstalled PS - and still have this problem.  No matter what color I click the eyedropper on, it picks a shade darker than what I want.  Anyone have any ideas?  Like I said, I am running PS CS6 on OS Mountain Lion.

I also have problems with the eyedropper in RGB mode. I have a blue background color and when selecting it with the eyedropper I get #244f69 when I'm in RGB mode. And if I use that color in CSS on a website, the color gets darger than the original color in Photoshop. But if I change to CMYK mode and use the eyedropper again, then i get this code on the same background #00516a. And with that code I get the color I want on the website.

    Am I doing something wrong?
Apart from your Photoshop needing updated to at least 13.0.1, the problem may be that your RGB document, which you're sampling in Photoshop, does not have sRGB profile and/or your Web browser is not colour managed and/or your computer is not using a correctly calibrated monitor profile and/or something else.

  • How do I replace image color with an exact html color code?

I simply want to change the color of a small pic to an existing html color code, 3399CC.  The pic is very simple, and only has one color.  In Photoshop CS4, I go to:  Image -> Adjustments -> Replace Color.  For the new replacement color, when I type in 3399CC, it doesn't give me that color - it gives some other shade of that color.  (I can tell because I use a program that tells me the exact html code a color is when I hover my mouse over it).  It seems the only way to really get the color you want is to adjust the sliders (hue, saturation, and lightness).  But it'd be practically impossible to play around with every increment of those sliders until I get the exact color code.
There's got to be a way to simply enter the html color code and have the pic changed to that color.  Does anyone have any idea?

Turns key.  WhirrRRRrrrrRRRrrrr....  Nothing.  (I answered in the other thread)
Perhaps I've had too much coffee today, because I just got a clear vision of Bart Simpson, at the board, chalk in hand...

  • CS6: Can't switch off color management in the printerdriver when photoshop manages colors

So this is weird: I'm using CS6 Extended and Lightroom 5 on a Windows 7 Pro machine, printing to an old Canon Pixma Ip5200R. When i print from Lightroom, i am using a special printer profile for the pixma and my photopaper, so color management is switched off in the printer driver. The photos print fine.
Now when i print the same photo from CS6, it has a magenta color cast, so clearly something is wrong with the color management. Even though i am using the same printer, the same paper, the same printer profile and  - of course! - had set photoshop to manage the colors, and switched color managent off in the printer driver. The magenta cast could be an indication that the photo is double colormanaged.
It took my quite a while to find out what happens, and this is really weird: When i re-checked the printer driver settings, i noticed that the color management settings did not stick. The canon printer driver offers the options "driver matching" "windows ICM" "none", e.g. having color management done by the printer driver or windows, or switch color management  off. So when i go to the PS print settings and set it to "photoshop manages colors", add the correct printer profile, i have to check the settings in the printer driver and make sure that color management is set to "none". I set it to "none" and click OK. Now everything should be configured correctly. But it's not - because when i re-check the print driver settings, i see color management is set to "diver matching". I can go to the print driver settings again and agian, but whenever i check, color management is set to "driver matching". This setting simply does not stick. No wonder i get a mangenta cast on my prints, the colors are doublemanaged by photoshop AND my printer driver.
Now, this is getting weirder: Only the color management settings don't stick. I can change other settings like print quality and the stick.
But - how do i get rid of this? The culprit seems to be photoshop, not the printer driver. If i print from lightroom, i can change the color management settings in the (very same) printer driver and they stick. When i set the photoshop print dialogue to "printer manages colors" i can change the color management settings in the (very same) printer driver - and they stick! So this looks as if photoshop stops me intentionally from using the correct printer driver settings, that is from switching off the printer drivers color management if it is set to manage colors.
I have already resetted my personal photoshop preferences, but this changed nothing. What am i missing? What is going wrong? Your help is very appreciated.

Hi all, Just to let you know that I finally solved my problem myself.
Essentially what had occurred was that I had updated my Epson driver for my printer , but it hadn't installed, despite informing me that it had! To cut a long story short when I checked in System preferences the older driver for Leopard O/S was still the current driver. I proceeded to ask Epson support for assistance, bu despite their efforts I could not immediately resolve the problem. They were directing me to my Utilities program to remove all traces of my current driver from Printer Utility which did not exist. When I queried this they stated it was not always visible and I should proceed to the next step then install the new driver. Problem was they required me to access this invisible utility in order to complete this process, and yes before you ask I had informed them I was using an Intel Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 O/S. Finally I ignored their advice and took the following steps:
    1. I opened System Preferences and double clicked the Printer & Fax icon.
    2. I highlighted my Epson R2400 Pinter and removed it by clicking the minus sign at the bottom of the Printers window.
    3. Next I did a search and deleted any old drivers for my R2400 that were on my system with the exception of the new Driver.
    4. I restarted my Mac Pro.
    5. I reinstalled my new printer driver which I had previously downloaded from Epson Support.
    6. I restarted my Mac Pro and found that the new driver had installed correctly and full functionality had been returned to the Print Features Dialogue box i.e I could now turn of color management and access advanced features to set the quality of printing using the full spec of the R2400.
Hope this post will be helpful to others if they have a similar problem

  • Why does Photoshop display colors differently from the other applications even in sRGB mode ?

    Hello all !
    Here is my problem :
Photoshop is set to use sRGB workspace (in edit/colors.../workspace/RVB).
If I understand correctly this is how all native windows applications work.
This means Photoshop and the other applications should display the same colors on a file with a sRGB profile.
Now this is the case until I calibrate my monitor.
When I do, Photoshop colors become different from the other applications (irfanview, explorer, browsers...).
The only way I found to let everything display the same colors is to set Photoshop to use Proofing/RVB Monitor.
What upsets me even more is that Photoshop colors look "better" to me (dark grays seem to dark to me in the other applications.)
I have read that this is because Photoshop takes the new profile into account and others applications do not. But I don't think this is relevant here because everything is in sRGB so the only profile is my monitor's and I think calibration is handled globally by windows : everything (including browsers, explorer, and Photoshop) changes color if I choose to apply the monitor's profile or not with windows color management tool ("use my parameters for this device").
Here is my system configuration :
    - Photoshop CS4 (11.0.2)
    - Windows 7 64 bits
    - HP ZR2440W and DELL 2209WA (these are not wide gamut screens)
I have spent two days trying to figure the logics behind this and really am upset. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don't hesitate to ask me if there is something that is unclear or some information I forgot to mention.
    Thanks in advance,
    Yannick

That sounds like an invitation to continue to talk about the issue.  Fair enough.
I'm not sure where you're getting "insecurity"...  I am just trying to help you help others more effectively.
I invite you to re-read just the first sentence of what you wrote very carefully, putting yourself in the shoes of someone struggling with both the terminology and the concepts:
Photoshop (CMS) reads an embedded ICC profile and CONVERTS it to the custom monitor profile for a theoretical 'true color' display
Think about what "Photoshop (CMS)" might mean to a person who doesn't know the acronym might stand for "Color Management System" (which is I assume what you meant).  Adobe themselves don't call it "CMS", they use the acronym "CMM" (Color Management Module).  The term "CMS" is used in the computer industry for about a dozen different things.
While a color profile might have been embedded in an image file before it was opened by Photoshop, Photoshop works on documents.  A profile is not "embedded" in a document, it is maintained by Photoshop with the document and describes the color values in the document.  If Photoshop opens a document without an embedded profile, depending on settings and user choices it might assign a profile or it might even operate on the document without color-management.  Oversimplification doesn't help people when they're trying to learn new things unless it's described as such, for example, "This is a bit of an oversimplification..." or "Generally speaking..."
Not every monitor profile is a "custom monitor profile".  Quite often a standard profile (e.g., sRGB IEC61966-2.1) is associated with a monitor by the operating system as a default, or a factory profile is installed by a driver package or system update.  Your use of the term "custom" is a bit ambiguous and could be read as implying the creation of a profile using a calibration and profiling device specific to the particular monitor.
Photoshop's color management code does not convert an embedded ICC profile at all (read carefully what you wrote).  As I said, it transforms color values.  That was the key error in your description that prompted me to comment.
If ever there is a time to pick words carefully, it's in a color-management discussion.
