Photoshop x64 in CS5 Cannot Open Any File

When I open a JPG or RAW file in PS x64, it will show a box "stop running" and if I click OK, PS quits.
Can anyone tell me what should I do? I updated CS5 to the latest version already.

I'd start by updating all (e.g., video) drivers on the system to the latest the manufacturer has released.
Assuming you can get to the menus (before opening a file), you could experiment by temporarily disabling OpenGL in Edit - Preferences - Performance.  Make sure you shut down Photoshop and restart it after making this change.

What happens when you try to use the clone stamp tool?
It should work with the images side by side.
You can setup photoshop cc to be like photoshop cs2 was on your other mac, by going to Photoshop>Preferences>Interface and unchecking
Open Documents as Tabs and Enable Floating Document Window Docking
And also going to Window and unchecking Application Frame

Select the folderr containing all of those files, CMD+I, click on the lock, enter your admin password, add yourself with read & write, and click on the action button and select apply to enclosed items. That should do the trick. BTW, I don't have a PC, so i've not transfered any such files to my machine.

  • Photoshop Elements 9 and cannot open Raw files from my Canon EOS 1000D camera.

I am using Photoshop Elements 9 on a Windows 7 based PC and would like to know why I cannot open Raw files produced by my Canon EOS 1000D camera.
I have checked the version of the plug in as 6.5 for raw files which is supposed to open .cr2 files and should be compatible according to Adobe site info.
    any ideas for next move.
    Mick

    Hi,
According to all of Adobe's charts, the Canon 1000D should be supported by the basic PSE 9 even without updates. When you said you checked the camera raw version in PSE, did you do that by going to the Help menu and selecting About plugins -> Camera raw?
The Canon 1200D requires ACR 8.4 which is only compatible with PSE 12 - so for PSE 10 your brother would need the DNG converter.
I can't find a sample raw file to try (I do have PSE 9). If you want to upload a sample file to dropbox and give me access, I could try it on my system.
Have you tried opening one of your files on your brothers system?

  • Photoshop CC 2014 won't open any files, not even create new ones

I have a freshly installed version of Photoshop CC 2014 and it just won't open any single file no matter what I do.  I also have Illustrator CC 2014 installed for the past week, and it is behaving fine, and even opening up the files that Photoshop won't open (jpg, psd, png, etc.).
I've tried uninstalling completely, and reinstalling it, and it still won't open any files.  Basically, nothing happens after I click the "Open" button from the Open File dialog window.
I've also try resetting my user preferences using this video tutorial, and it also didn't resolve the problem: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html
Has anyone else experienced this or can give information on how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

Well, I finally got it to work through trial and error.  Here were the steps that I used to get it to work:
    1) Make sure that you are not behind any firewall/VPN/etc, just a direct connection to the internet (if possible).  I use Adobe for my work laptop, and I was informed that this could potentially be an issue during installation processes.
    2) Uninstall Photoshop via the Creative Cloud application interface.
    3) Right-click on the Creative Cloud icon from the system tray and "Quit" (it was automatically started for me from a previous bootup)
    4) Right-click on the Creative Cloud desktop icon and choose "Run As Administrator"
    5) Re-install Photoshop
After performing the above steps, I can now open any png/jpg/gif/etc file, as well as start a new file.  I have no clue why it works or if my steps played any role in fixing it, but I thought it was worth sharing for others to try if they encounter a similar issue.  It could be either the firewall I was behind, or the permissions (I don't think Creative Cloud boots up running as administrator).  But I am in no position to say I know the exact resolution.  Hope this helps!

  • Why the Finder Search-Function is corrupted in Mavericks so that I cannot open any file after searching it?

Finder Search-Function is troubled / corrupted / misfunctioning
When keying in a search word the files are selected properly, yet not shown with details. Furthermore you cannot click and open any file. Also sorting is not possible.
Anyone else has such a problem and has figured out on how to resolve it?
(Spotlight works properly and is somehow a spare solution).
There seem to be many basic problems with the finder in Mavericks, this problem unfortunately has not been resolved also with the last software-release 10.9.2.
The quality strategy of Apple has to be questioned: I do not need 200 NEW functions, but I need the previous basic functions STILL working!
    Thank you!

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by logging out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer ones.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.
Resolved the Problem! Thanks to Eric and Leonie

  • Cannot open any file in PSE7 [was:Govtrumbull1776]

I have been using PSE-7 for a long time.  But something happened to it that either involves the settings, or there is a corrupted file that won't allow me to open any file; new or existing; for editing.  I uninstalled the program, and then reinstalled it thinking that that would fix the problem.  But it didn't.  It still won't open any file into the editor and won't drop in a copied file.  It won't even open a new blank file.  Thhis happened suddenly.  I was using the program and it was working, then I tried to open another file and it wouldn't work at all.
The program works fine on another computer that I just loaded it onto, but something is keeping files from this compuer that I use every day.  Has someone else had this happen with PSE, or does someone know of an easy fix?  Any help would be appreciated.

    Good day!

  • CS6: cannot open any files JPEG, TIFF, PSD, PNG [was:Help!]

    Hey,
So, I'm a freshmen in college majoring in Simulation and Game Development. Two of my SGD classes features Photoshop. I am trying to continue an assignment that I started at school today, but the Photoshop CS6 (64 bit) that I have on my laptop (which was obtained legally and is a gift from my sister) will not let me open any files. Not, JPEG, TIFF, PSD, PNG, nary a one of the photo types can be opened. It doesn't give me any signs of trouble or error messages. It just wont let me open a file or make a new file. I just sits there in all its power staring me down. Ugh, why must Photoshop all of a sudden despise me so? So, could you all please help me and fast? I have deadlines that must be met!
    Blessings,
    BSE

Okay, I'm going to say this now. I'm a techinically chanellged artistic person. So, I haven't a clue what a OS is...
And no I haven't changed anything on my computer lately, except for the updates that the computer does while it's configuring, which is did earlier when I tried the ole restart and hope it works thing. Which sadly, did not do anything to help me.
    Extra Info:
    Computer: Dell Inspiron
    System Operator: Winows 7 Ultimate
Yes, it's tyhe full version not the trial version.
    It's Photoshop CS6 (64 bit).
Yes, I've used it before on this computer.
I've had it for almost 2 maybe 3 months now.  I got it as a gift from my sister the 2nd and 3rd week of he beginning of my Fall semester. We're almost at the end of said semester since 2 to 3 weeks ago I have my midterms, which were all jammed into one week. Tests galore.

  • Safari cannot open any file - online or local

    Hi Everyone,
I'm struggling with this issue: Safari cannot open anything. It can't open any website. It can't even open any local HTML files. When I put something in the location bar and hit enter, I get about a half inch of blue progress bar and then....nothing. Safari just stops. No error. Not even an attempt to do something. It just sits there. All the other functionality not involved with displaying HTML files works fine. I can change preferences and show the Develop menu. I just can't use the application for anything.
Catch 1: Firefox, Chrome, Opera, iTunes, every other app installed on my Mac works fine and can access the net. With one exception...
Catch 2: The App Store doesn't work either. I can't sign in. When I create a new account, I can't download any apps. (I get a "We could not complete your purchase. Unknown Error.") Nor can I sign out. I read that webkit is the same under the hood for both Safari and The App Store so maybe they are related.
    Here's what I have tried:
    - Deleting, re-downloading, and reinstalling Safari.
    - Deleting .plists from Preferences and Safari folders in my Library.
    - Checking Proxies settings (none set)
    - Removing third party virus software (Didn't have any. I don't have FruitMenu or Application Enhancer either)
    - No parental controls are set
    - I've tried a whole bunch of other suggestions, from deleting com.apple.whatever files to repairing permissions, to resetting account permissions.
I'm using OS 10.7.5 and Safari 6. Firefox 15.0.1 and Chrome 22.0.1229.94 are fine. I have a separate MacBook pro with the same proxy settings and Safari settings that works just fine.
Please send help. I know it's something simple. I just want to find it so I can punch it in the face.

Did you log out after moving com.apple.LaunchServices.plist?
If you did, proceed as below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 does not open any files

    Dear Community,
today I booted my adobe photoshop elements 8.0 to do some picture editing. But when I try to open a file nothing happens. And I mean nothing. Photoshop just keeps on running but it doesn nothing with the command I gave it. It doesn't show a new image, there isn't even a new file in the open files container, which normally shows you which files you have open. I've tried different images. Jpegs, pngs and I even tried a raw image to check whether the Raw converter starts, this doesn't happen eighter.
First thing I tried after that was to reset photoshop elements using ctrl-alt-shift, but that didn't help eighter.
Does anyone have any idea what I could try to fix this???
    Short info on the system:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 on Windows XP with all the latest updates.
    Thanks in advance!

Can you open a file directly from a folder by right-clicking and choosing Open With.
Then select PSE8 or navigate to the exe file.

  • Need Help: PS CS3 on Intel Mac 10 .4.9 Cannot Open Any Files

CS3 has been very stable for me. All of a sudden it will not open any type of file. I get a spinning beach ball and need to force quit. I get the "Photoshop Not Responding" message in the Force Quit Window.
I've tried to open my own PS-made JPEGs and my own .PSD files with no luck. Happens whether I double click file or use open dialog. Tried files on different drives as well.
I've repaired permissions on the boot disk but no luck. I've got Disk warrior but I'm at work and it is home.
Any suggestions? I need to get a project finished here today.
    TIA
    Joe

I am able to set up a new account and work but even after deleting all preferences the problem persists in my admin account.
I'll try to look for any font corruption and clear font cache but having to reinstall the OS is a real drag. Not sure why PS should corrupt the OS, itself.
Any chance I can uninstall and remove PS then install again?

  • Cannot open any files in Adobe CS6 even though the files were created in cs6

I am currently using Adobe cs6 I cannot get any of my old files to open do anybody know of any possible issues that may have been experienced with this program please help

    Hi there,
Are you able to open the file in Acrobat? If so, try saving it as a .PDF then see if you can open the PDFs in Illustrator.
Otherwise, the files might be corrupted.

  • Cannot Open ANY file

When I try to open a hard drive, external drive, or ANY application, or document, I cannot open it. And I get the computer "error" sound. I am runnin 10.5.2 and there are soooo many issues and I assume this is just another one.
The other thing/same thing that happens is that my finder doesnt work, if i do Command-F nothing happens. If I use SPotlight, then i can type like Hard Drive and access it that way, but all the icons, files are dimmed and I cannot open or select ANY of them. This is strange, Ive never seen this is 30 years!
Ive already reinstalled and updated a second time so this is sad. "It Just Works" should be "It Just Stinks!" How can I hold up my head when I visit my Windows family members?? I can't!

I actually rebooted, logged in as single user mode (Terminal) and ran fsck -f and then it was fine. I am not sure what had happened...but I've been noticing other weird things, like all of my Bluetooth functions, icons, etc, have been disabled, and are no longer showing up in System Preferences. I did read that i might have to d/c all of my USBs and then reconnect them to fix that problem, (I know others have had this problem with the 10.5 and 10.5.2 upgrade. Also, my downloading from internet isn't working the first time, i have to give it a second nudge and then its fine, so i may need to reinstall Firefox. Thanks for your suggestion. Also, I seem to have the kind of temperament that affects electronic equipment, for example, when I am at friend's house, his computer starts having problems...and visitors...well the last friend that visited had to replace his hard drive...and watches seem to die and act weird around me... Does anyone else seem to have this kind of effect on hardware??

  • Photoshop Elements 10. Cannot open .cr2 files (Canon 650D)

Running win 7. Latest version camera raw is 6.7. It will not open .cr2 files from Canon 650d. Adobe says need camera raw 7.1 which supports 650d. Cannot update Elements 10 with 7.1 as it is not for this software.
How do i open cr2 files?

    You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.4
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:
