Photosmart 1215 printing pictures very dark

My Photosmart 1215, which I've had for several years, has started to print my pictures very dark and not true to the picture displayed on my screen.  This is a recent development in the past two months.  I've always had beautiful pictures from it.
The printer has also started to eat the end of the printed paper if I don't remove it from the printer the second it finishes printing.

I too have the same printer, and the same problem.
I have scanned the net, hoping to find an answer to the problem.
I have changed the settings on my printer to RGB + 2.2 Gamma.  This does brighten the printed photo, to a degree.
But in doing so, losing some good colour and contrast.
Fabulous printer, printing fabulous colour. But not very good at reproducing what I am looking at on my monitor.
Hope some one can give you and I some useful answers!

  • MAC OS 10.5.7 and Samsung CLP-610ND color laser printer, images very dark

Just picked up this printer 3 days ago, set up fine prints word files fine. Any images print very dark. MY main use is printing a pdf newsletter but the print image is so dark it is useless. I have tried print as image. I have also tried a plain jpg from camera and that was also very dark. Talked to Samsung and they said it was my computer and I should return it. Not what I want to do.
Also I took my pdf file and tried ot on other laser printers that had a Secure digital file reader and the colors were correct some with my HO color inkjet.
So printing through adobe or preview images are too dark.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

Went back to HP.com and this time was able to see and download latest driver and firmware for HP LaserJet P3005dn  Installation of new firmware was done thru the HP Printer Utility application on my iMac OS 10.7.5
I was able to choose my printer and then upload the firmware file from the iMac to the printer. This has completely solved the problem!
Thank you ~graffiti Not sure why I was not able to access the driver and firmware earlier from the HP site but eventually I found it.

  • Epson R300 prints photos very dark and oversaturated

My Epson R300 recently began printing photos much darker and heavily saturated relative to what I see on my monitor. It seems to print ok directly from a CompactFlash. Photos I printed in the past no longer print good. I tried different programs (iPhoto and Photoshop) and print settings. I replaced all cartridges and reset the driver using Print Setup Utility. Any idea what I can try? Thanks.

Have you checked that the ColorSync profiles are OK,
and have not been changed? Use the ColorSync Utility
    to check them.
This appears to be a printer problem and not a setup issue. The printer worked good for nearly 2 years. The color isn't just a little off. All colors are very dark like too much ink is being delivered to the paper.
There is a definite red cast to whites in photos. Printing directly from a CF card (bypassing my computer) shows the same problem. I deleted and reinstalled the drivers. Tried all of the various settings. With/without Colorsync, printer color vs photoshop color. Tried iPhoto vs Preview vs Photoshop. Epson Print vs Gimp Print. Replaced all cartiridges. Used different paper types (Glossy Photo, Matte). Very frustrating!
Is 2 years the lifetime of an inkjet printer?

  • Item on screen appears brilliant color, but printed version very dark and untrue to color.

I have recently received an invitation file for my wedding invitations which are in a very brilliant shade of purple. However, when I had them printed, they turned out a very dark, almost black/blue color. I converted the file from RGB to CMYK as directed, but no color change was observed. I even tried printing a copy at home and I received the same result. No matter how I play around with the shade, the color doesn't even come close to printing true to on-screen color. What am I doing wrong?!

  • Pictures Very Dark

Hello I am a father who takes pictures of his 4 kids, I am no where near a professional. That said, I have always used the Auto setting on the camera.  Up to 2 weeks ago, this worked perfectly fine.  In the last 2 weeks every other picture is very dark.  The ones that are not dark, are perfect.  So weird.  So dark i can not even use.  However I am 100% sure the flash is going off.  I am curious if one of my kids maybe touched a setting? Any Ideas? ThanksSteve

How about i just list the info, maybe that will work.   I can not thank you all enough for all this help! BAD:Camera:Canon EOS REBEL T3iLens:Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II

  • Iphoto turns my pictures very dark

for some reason when i use Iphoto to import picture from my camera it changes all the pictures to a darker setting. I have an E-volt 500 olympus camera and i can import photos into another program fine and the quality stays the same as i would expect but when i use Iphoto all the picture turn out a few shades darker. Is there a reason for this and if so how do i correct it. Is there a way to edit multiple picture at one time so i can just change them all?
    Thanks

Just turning on at option is not enough for those photos already in the library. Export one of the dark ones and then reimport. See if that will lighten up your photos. Also you might have to calibrate your monitor. Since Apple uses the sRGB profile for all of their services and that profile is used more most web use,you might set your monitor to that profile and see if helps.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Prints have become dark with a Brown hue

I had a hard drive crash which required a new hard drive, unfortunately unconfigured. With a techie's help I am up and running but my printer, Epson SPR1900, produces very dark images with a heavy brown overcast. I have a Dell Desktop running Windows 7, Dell Monitor, ,NVIDIA GeForce 220 graphics card with a new driver update. I have calibrated the monitor with my Spyder2 and use the following settings: Under EDIT >Color Settings>Custom. Working space>ProPhoto. VIEW>Proof Setup>Device to Simulate> SPR1900 Premium Glossy. PRINT (PS-CS6) Color Management ICM>off, No Color Management.. In Color Management, Color Handling>PS Manages Color. Printer Profile>SPR1900 Premium Glossy. Rendering is Relative Colorimetric. Prints still very dark with a marked brown overtone. What have I done wrong. Prints were beautiful before the hard drive crash.

Have you checked the printer for nozzle clog?

  • Need driver for HP Photosmart 1115 printer for windows 7 beta

What driver can I use to get this printer to work?  Can you also provide installation procedure?   Would your recommendation also work for HP Photosmart 1215 printer which I also have?
    Thanks

Had the same problem, got it working by using Photosmart 8200 driver.   You have to go to add a printer, select Dot4 USB for the port, and then pick the 8200 driver from the list that Windows 7 ships with.   Once you do, it just works.   My test page printed on the first try.   HP could make this a *lot* easier for everyone, but I guess they are in the business of selling more printers.

  • My printer -photosmart plus B210a prints but the photos are very very dark HELP please

I have a Hp photosmart plus B210a just trying to print out some photos and they are very very dark The photos themselves are light and of a high Dpi any suggestions anyone ??? please they are of my son's wedding so are very important to me

What program are you printing from? What operating system? What are the printer settings for paper type and quality?
If you are printing from a program that allows selection of CMYK or RGB printing then select the RGB setting.  Even though the inks are CMYK the driver is expecting RGB data.

  • Edited in LR 3 but printed in LR 4 produce very dark prints

Images I edited in LR 3 and printed in LR 4 all turn out very dark and off color. Images edited in LR 4 and printed from LR 4 print just fine. Can anyone offer me a solution to this issue?

    I have attached 3 photos.
When I took the photos I shot as both raw and jpeg. I have attached the following:
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5ebbdi4o3u14wk3/CZWB8wJcce/Grainy%20Photos?lst
      a.. the original raw photo
b.. the jpeg that came with it (as is out of the camera)
      c.. the final edited jpeg
d.. A screen print of the image uploaded to printing lab (It will look grainy around the hair line...but that's the problem)
I have played around a fair bit. All looks great in LR and when I get out of LR and open them up full screen out of windows explorer they look good too.
It was only when the bride complained about the blurriness, I then tried uploading the final high resolution file to RGB Digital Labs that you could see how bad they were.
Last night I was playing around and I tried uploading the jpeg straight out of the camera to RGB labs and that too was bad. So I am starting to think would it be the camera, but then again when they look so good after editing why would they look bad at print time. Photo was taken at f$ 1/200 shutter speed and ISO 320 (so it’s not like I didn’t have light) I had a flash as well
I think I am going to have a mental breakdown!!!
So far from what I have found to get the picture looking ok  Sharpness is “0”and luminance is set to 100 – so too extremes which just does not seem right, I have never had to do this before.
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

  • HP Photosmart 1215 USB - Can't Print

New iMac user. I have HP Photosmart 1215 Inkjet Printer. Connected via USB and Mac sees the printer. but does not know what driver to use. The Print Using box is greyed out saying "please select a driver".
Went to HP downloaded the latest Mac OSX Hp driver, ran the installer from the desktop, followed prompts. It installed some folders and files on the HD, but the set up Wizard ends up coming to the same dead end when you try to Add Printer. Have removed printer, restarted, etc.
When you browse to the new HP folders to select the driver, I don't know what file, if any, is the actual driver to pick.
Mac OS is 10.4.8. Printer prints fine from Windows PC.
    Thanks in advance.
iMac Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sounds similar to my problem, but my printer does show up in the Profiler.
I made a call to AppleCare since this is a new computer. I was dissapointed when the tech walked me through a few steps, all of which I had already done several times myself, then said "Everything seems to be working right, I don't know why the printer is not installing. I suggest you call HP technical support."
Maybe I just got a new tech or she was having a bad day, but I found out more myself on the different forums than she knew about it.
I guess my answer is to buy a new printer. Or pursue it with HP tech support.
    Good luck.
    Thanks for responding

  • Hp Photosmart 1215 color cartridge will not print.

    I have a photosmart 1215.
The color quit printing so I purchased a new print cartridge
    hp c6578d
and that cartridge would not print.
I performed all the cleaning procedures as set forth on this site.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Did you remove the protective tape from the cartridge?
Is there any trace of color on the printed page?  If not try gently blotting the nozzles on a damp tissue.  Does this leave a strong stripe of cyan, magenta and yellow on the tissue?  If not then you have a defective cartridge.  If there are no stripes of color on the tissue then the cartridge is defective.  If there are stripes of color on the tissue but no color prints on the test page or cleaning pages then the printer will likely require service.

  • Leopard + Aperture 2 + Epson R1800 == very dark prints

    Hi,
Before I upgraded to Leopard, I was able to get very nice prints from Aperture on my Epson R1800 printer.
After I upgraded to Leopard, the prints end up very dark. A bit of additional info follows.
    My monitor is correctly calibrated.
I installed new drivers from Epson's website (v6.12), and I verified I'm using those, and not Apple's Gutenprint drivers.
In the print settings I turn color management off, and than select correct ICC profile in the Aperture that matches paper and quality settings. For example, for printing on Epson Premium Glossy paper with PhotoRPM settings, I select "SPR1800 PrmGlsy PhotoRPM.icc" profile. Hit print, and after a bit of time the print comes out of the printer very dark. This sounds like ICC profile got dropped someplace along the way (in Aperture? in driver?).
If I go the other route, and let driver/printer manage color by selecting either normal or vivid options in print settings, and than use "system managed" setting in Aperture, the prints come out bright (maybe even a bit too bright). However, in this case the colors are off. Very off. Skin tones are especially bad with strong yellowish cast (people on the prints look if they were seriously sick).
Has anybody managed to get usable prints from Aperture 2 + Leopard combo on Epson R1800? Or any other comparable Epson printer (R800, R2400, new R1900)?
Searching forums, I found a lot of articles discussing Leopard and Epson printers problems for Adobe products (CS2/CS3/LightRoom), but not much for Aperture 2.
Unrelated question... I attempted to ask this in Aperture forum, but there was no post link. Do I need something special to be able to ask questions there?

Well, believe it or not, with the help of Epson support on the phone, I've figured this out. First of all, there is definitely a problem with Aperture's color management. What used to work (setting a color profile in the Aperture print dialog, and selecting "no color management" in the printer dialog) definitely does not work at this point.
If you want color management, what you have to do is select "System Managed" in the Aperture print dialog, and select "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog. What this does is select the standard Epson profile for the paper you have selected. For example, if you've chosen Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, the printer driver will use the "SPR1800 Premium Glossy" profile (Epson's standard profile for that paper, assuming you've downloaded it). Of course, that gives you Epson's version of what you want to print. If you have created your own profiles, using a spectrophotometer for example, you need to get the printer driver to apply YOUR profile instead of Epson's.
Here's how to apply your profile: Open Colorsync (in the Utilities folder), and select "Printers" in the Devices menu. Under the printer model, Stylus Photo R1800, for my case, select the profile for the paper you're interested in, say "SPR1800 Premium Glossy", and look on the right side of the window at "Current Profile:". Click the down arrow, and select "Other". Navigate to the profile you've created, and click "Open". This will set the profile you've created as what the printer driver will use when it thinks it's applying the SPR1800 Premium Glossy profile. Set other paper profiles (e.g., "SPR1800 Enhanced Matte") to whatever profile you've created for those papers.
Now, when you select "System Managed" in the Aperture dialog, and "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog, it will apply your own profile.
Hopefully, Apple will fix the problem with color management, and we'll be able to go back to color management as it was before. In the meantime, this is the only work-around I've found.
