Photosmart 6520 Wireless Direct

I have no desktop to install the software but I'm hoping to be able to use Wireless Direct without the router. The Wireless Direct function has been turned on and My iPad has found the Photosmart printer but when I tried to Airprint my photos, nothing comes out of the printer. Not a problem with printing emails but no luck with photos. Why?

Hello ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
When printing from the Photosmart 6520 from an iPad, whether it is Wireless Direct of over a network, the printer will need to have photo paper loaded into the tray (4x6) when printing photos. Try installing and using the HP ePrint App on the iPad.
HP ePrint<---
Let me know if you are able to print a photo using the ePrint App.

My photosmart 6520 wireless printing was working fine the other day. Today, it doesn't work at all. The printer and the computer are connected to the same network. In the troubleshooting app, the printer shows up. When I select a printer for my print job, the printer shows up. I've stopped and started everything.
I can print via a cable. This is my first wireless printer. I haven't even set up my ipad. It's really upsetting that it's so unreliable.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Judy_B
I understand you are no longer able to print over the wireless network.
Since the printer and the computer are on the same network then I would recommend
to power cycle the router. Disconnect the power cable on the router for 10 seconds, then reconnect the power cable again.
Clear out any jobs in the print cue.
    Try printing again.
Here is a url for the printer not maintaining a wireless connection. I would highly recommend assigning a static ip when the printer is working on the wireless network again.

  • HP PhotoSmart 6520, Printer offline, Wireless printing from Windows 8.1 and others

My parents own an HP PhotoSmart 6520. They have 3 or 4 computers. 1 Is connected to this printer via USB cable. 3 Are "connected" over wireless. The printer has the latest firmware updates according to checks from the printer front display.
    Problem is this:
    1) When first starting the printer, and the printer gets on the wifi network, all wifi-available devices can print to it over wifi. We are also able to browse to the printer config web pages to see status, and change configs as needed.
    2) After about 5 minutes of printer inactivity, all wireless clients can't print to the printer to print, and can't connect to the printer's web page. (The printer appears to be offline to each OS that uses WiFi to get Internet access.
    3) If we visit the printer control screen, physically attached to the pinter, find the network configuration, and choose to "turn off" wifi at the printer, then after off, "turn on" wifi and see an IP address get assigned, then all WiFi machines can print to the printer over WiFi. However, after 5 minutes, again, the printer is offline. No matter what or how much each WiFi-based machine sends to their printer queue/spool, the printer remains offline.
    4) If the USB-connected machine prints to the printer over USB, the printer once again becomes available over the wireless network.
The work-around is terrible. (Cycle WiFi access every time they need to print from Wireless devices.)
    Things we have tried:
    1) This is running the latest firmware according to the WebService section request to check for upgrades. They are on the latest according to the results. (no help)
    2) DHCP was the initial config for network settings. I moved to a DHCP server configuration with static IP served by printer MAC address. (No help)
    3) I switched to totally static IP address, thinking it might be a DHCP lease-time/renewal issue, or custom vendor string issues or bug. (no help)
    4) Enabled/Disabled IPv6 even though they are on a NAT-ed network with only IPv4 support. (no help)
    5) Visited printer config with web broswer, and change energy saver setting from "5 minutes" to "15 minutes" because the ~5 minute window seemed like an approximate time limit. (No help)
    6) Enable/Disable other settings through the web and restart the printer. (No help.)
    7) Suggestions listed here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-6520-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5169038/model/516... (No help)
In testing this, with static IP or not, from other machines, when we can print over WiFi to the printer, the IPv4 address is ping-able from peers on the network. After ~5 minutes pass, and the pinter goes "offline" there are no ping replies to the static or other IP address assigned to this printer. By all accounts, when the printer is "offline" it really is no longer on the WiFi network. Meanwhile, oter devices can ping each other. (All computers, smartphones, tablets, etc can all respond to ping.)
None of the other devices suffer from dropped access to the WiFi and Internet.
    Suggestions?
I do not have access to this right now, but I can walk my parents through whatever steps are needed to resolve this.
    Thanks!
    P.S. Other things tried:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/If-your-printer-drops-off-your-network/...
    1) When online, generating report, reports online
    2) When offline, report reports that it is still associated with access point
    3) Printer is about 2 feet away from the access point it is communicating with and has max-bars showing signal strength.
    4) Channel allocation for WiFi was selected based on least used channel, and works very well for all other devices on this channel.
    5) There is only one accesspoint with the name it associates with.
    6) The only options for power-saving "auto-off" we see via web pages from printer are: 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes, and changing to 15 minutes does not allow the printer to remain online for 14 minutes -- it still goes offline to the network after ~5 minutes -- even agfter changing this settings and power cycling the printer.
    7) No wireless extender is being used.
    8) We tried static IP, Dynamic IP, and statically assigned DHCP served IP.
Once printer is "offline" when visiting printer to tell printer to disable WiFi access, then re-enable it, all machines with items in their printer queue/spool *immediately* de-queue/de-spool their printer jobs to the printer.

    Hi @TheSynAck,
I see you are using a Hot Spot, I believe we have found the reason for the connectivity issues. There may be a setting that needs to manually configured for the Hotspot to 'allow' your printer access. Also, hotspots may have limitations and restrictions that may cause connectivity issues.
Take a look here: Setting up the Printer as a HotSpot, it shows a Laserjet but the same steps apply.
Keep in mind that Hotspot connections are 'best effort' connections due to the issues of inconsistencies within the connection. They are not routers. Therefore, you may experience issues in the future when using the Hotspot for your connection. Usually a powercycle or hard reset of the HotSpot will resolve such issues.
I would not recommend getting another Hot Spot as the connection is not guaranteed, you could however try a Wireless Router if you are looking to upgrade anyways.
With the PS 6520 you also have the ability to print using the HP Wireless Direct printing option. Please click on the link below to get started:
HP Wireless Printers - Printing with HP Wireless Direct
I hope this gives you a better understanding of the intermittent connection issues.

  • Wireless printing from HP Photosmart 6520

I'm trying to set up my new HP Photosmart 6520 printer to print wireless.  I have the Wireless Direct turned on. The trouble happens when I go to the wireless radio and click on the name of the printer. I get an exclamation point in the middle of the radio waves that show connection to the Internet.  For some reason, it isn't connecting to the printer. Any suggestions?

    Hi @Karobn
I understand you have the Wireless Direct on, but I am a little confused about the exclamation point in the middle of the radio waves that show connection to the Internet. Are you trying to connect the computer to the printers Wireless Direct network, or are you trying to put your printer on your home network, have the computer on the same home network and thus be able to print wirelessly and have internet access?
    If you are trying to get the printer on your existing network, follow the steps below;
On the control panel, touch the Wireless icon ().
    Touch Settings.
    Touch Wireless Setup Wizard.
The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
Touch the name of your network.
NOTE:The printer wireless setup wizard provides instructions to configure the wireless connection. Follow the instructions on the printer control panel, or continue with the following steps.

  • Photosmart 5520 connected but no wireless printing nor wireless direct / Mac OSX 10.6.8

Hi, I've got the Photosmart 5520 installed a few weeks ago and after the set up wireless printing was working fine for a day, but never since. My computer runs on OSX10.6.8 and the modem is a MOBILE Wifi E589. The printer is connected to the network, network test results came up fine, i can choose the printer wirelessly in the printmenu but then get the message: Unable to connect to printer / Network host busy alternating. The network test result comes up fine, no issues. Ive unplugged the whole lot and restarted it (modem/compuet/printer) without success. Wiresless direct doesn't seem to work either. What's next??
    Thanks heaps in advance!!!

    Hi @Kimaschi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you cannot print with your HP Photosmart using a wireless connection, or wireless direct on your Mac OS X 10.6.8 computer. I am happy to help!
I would recommend to go through the following guides:
'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X.
Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Also I believe this website, Wireless printing center, has a lot of useful information as well.
A couple of questions, if you don't mind:
Do you see any error messages on the printer's control panel?
Can the printer make copies? Copy Text or Mixed Documents.
Have you tried printing using a USB connection? If so, does it print?
Hope the guides help, and hope to hear back from you soon!

  • Need drivers for photosmart 6520 to print wirelessly from IOS 8

CanI I send drivers from an iPad mini wirelessly to an F6 photosmart 6520 printer. Where do I find them?

    Hello Marciagarcia,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
The drivers for the Photosmart 6520 would be pre-installed in iOS 8. This printer would use AirPrint offered from the Apple device.
Is this the first time setting up and trying to print, or are you trying to resolve an issue?
Read through the info here about AirPrint: Printing Over a Wireless Network with Apple's AirPrint FAQs.

  • Unable to print from my iPad to HP Photosmart 6520

I recently purchased this Photosmart 6520 printer so that I can print from my iPad.  I do not have a laptop that works in order to install the software that is included.  The salesperson who sold this printer to me said that I didn't need a computer in order to have this printer work w/ my iPad.
I've connected the printer to my wireless network, I've received the printer's e-mail address and enabled e-print.  On my printer it says that e-print is connected and On.
I've downloaded the eprint app on my IPad and connected it to my printer.  It recognizes my printer but when it goes to print it says "oops! we could not complete the job.  please try again. " "there was a problem during printing. please check your printer try again"
I'm getting all my jobs in the queue but none of them will print.  and when I go to my email or try to print a document from my ipad w/o using the HP e-print app its telling me that there are no airprinters found.
Please help me.  this is the 3rd printer i've bought trying to get it to print w/ my iPad and i'm not having any luck! what's wrong?  I'm not getting any errors on my printer.
I also did a wireless network test on my printer and it says no problems found.  I'm confused why isn't my iPad recognizing this airprinter?? and why can't I print.  All the print jobs say failed.

    Hi,
iOS Uses Bonjour services to communicate with the printer through the network, those relies on Multicasting.
Some routers shipped with Multicasting disabled by default and some does not support those protocols at all.
Please try printing using Wireless Direct and check for any difference, if the feature works without using the router that indicates the issue as router related and will allow us to better understand how to go further,
To set up a direct connection using Wireless Direct follow the steps below and try pritnign from your iPad:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03351623&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5169041&tmp...
Please let me know if the feature works while bypassing your router or not, as well be sure to clarify your router brand and model.

  • Unable to Communicate with Printer - Photosmart 6520

A few days ago this issue popped up out of no where. I've been using the printer for a few months now with out an issue, but all of a sudden all of our computers can no longer print. When ever I try an error pops up that the computer cannot communicate with the printer, and to try to update the IP address with the IP address tool.
So far what I've tried without any success:
    - Restarting the printer.
    - Restarting the router.
    - Restarting the computers.
    - Reconnecting the printer to the network (Rerunning the network setup.).
    - Changing the IP address manually.
    - Disabled the router firewall and computer firewall.
    - Changed the wireless security on my router to WPA2 from WEP (Needed to do this anyway.).
    - Uninstalling, then reinstalling drivers and software.
    - HP Print and Scan Doctor (Sorry, left this one off. Doesn't detect any devices.)
The Photosmart 6520 says it is connected to the network and the printed wireless test page says the same thing, but none of the computer can print to it, or detect it.
So far I'm stuck there, as I can't locate the printer to finish reinstalling the drivers.
Having this issue on multiple devices.
    - Desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    - Acer laptop running Windows 7 Home
    - Two different HP laptops running Windows Vista
Since it is affecting so many devices on different platforms I'm inclined to believe the fault lies with the router or the printer itself. Though since there's no other network issues and the printer itself shows it connects successfully to the network (I can also see it listed on the router client list.), I'm leaning more towards an issue with the printer.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time.

Looks like you have done a lot of what needs to be done.  Nice work!
Just want to clarify a few things.
Can you connect the printer to the router using a network cable?
Does the printer work fine if connected directly to the router via netowork cable?
If that works fine, please note the IP address and disconnect network cable.
    Wireless:
From the 6520 , configure wireless connection
What is the printer's IP address when you have it assigned automatically and not manually?
If both IP addresses assigned are from same subnet (ex:192.168.x.x)
-can you ping the printer through the command prompt (in accessories) from a PC on the same network?
      'Ping (address) xxx.xxx.x.x'
You should get back 3 lines showing the mil sec response if successful.
Sorry if I am asking you to do something you have already done.

  • HP Photosmart 6520 - shows offline and has stopped rotating printing for short-edge binding

I have suddenly had some issues with my HP Photosmart 6520 printer. I use a wireless connection with my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.5)
First problem is that the printer icon in the dock has recently shown to be offline/not connected. The printer would print pages of documents in the computer (Open Office stuff) but would not print material direct from a web browser. Now (a few days later) it showed to be offline and wouldn't print anything.
I should point out that the printer device list in System Preferences shows two different entries: one is "HP Photosmart series 6520" (listed as offline) - and the second is "Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" (listed as idle).
The first ("HP Photosmart series 6520") had been ticked as the default printer.  I then ticked "Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" to change the default printer.
Then I noticed, when I used the Print command for a document, that the printer list in the Print dialogue box showed that it had a tick against the "HP Photosmart series 6520" printer. When I changed this to the ("Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" printer, the machine printed my document. But the next time I opened the print command, the tick was once again next to the "HP Photosmart series 6520" printer.
The printers listed in the Print dialogue box have small icons to their left. The "HP Photosmart series 6520" has a wavy line inside a circle and the "Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" has an exclamation mark inside a triangle.
The second problem is that the printer is no longer rotating the second page when I am printing two-sided and choose "short edge binding" in layout. It now prints out exactly the same as when "long edge binding" is selected (default). The result is that the second page is printed upside down in relation to the first page. This problem has never previously occurred.
So far I have tried paracetamol and scotch but neither seems to solve these problems. Not sure if I should try them together!
Sorry this is so long-winded - I'm trying to include as much detail as possible to make it all clear from the start.

    Hello lenc48,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a few issues when it comes to printing from your mac as well as some two sided printing issues.
I do have a some suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Please remove the usb cable (if using wireless, disregard this step) from the printer and from the Mac and leave it disconnected until further notice.
Please click on the first link that will give you instructions on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once the software has been removed, please disable any anti virus protection that you may have on the Mac.
The next step we are going to take is downloading the HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
The installation will prompt you when to connect the usb cable (You will see a prompt for a wireless connection as well if that is the connection type you would like to use) so please do not connect the cable until prompted to do so.
If you are still having issues, feel free to write me back or you can contact HP Total care direct.  If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Lost my photosmart 6520 by manually changing server address

    Hi
My printer is wirelessly connected and prints fine by AirPrint and when I send it jobs by email but after successfully scanning to email several times it suddenly wouldn't connect to the Internet, giving an error message. Tried turning it off and on several times. Looked up help on forum and followed advice to manually change DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and alternate server to 8.8.4.4. This resulted in my losing access to my printer via its IP address on my browser so I can't undo my actions and my printer still gives error message when I ask it to scan to email. All other functions work.
    Please help. Thank you

    Hey @Kybosh,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum.
I understand you're having connectivity issues with your HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this.
I'm surprised that a manual DNS has interfered with your setup - I typically find it does the opposite and strengthens connectivity.  At any rate, don't despair!    I have some suggestions that may restore your printer's functionality.
I recommend a fresh start by restoring your printer's factory defaults to rule out any lingering setup issues.  Here's how:
From your printer's front panel, touch the wrench icon
    Touch Tools
    Touch Restore Factory Defaults*
*Note that this will reset your wireless and webservices settings.  If you have a custom ePrint address it will be erased permanently.  Click here for more information on setting a custom ePrint address.
With your defaults restored, continue on as directed:
    Touch the wireless icon ()
Run the wireless setup wizard and reconnect to your network (SSID)
Enter the wireless password if prompted
Once you've established wireless connectivity, re-enable your webservices/ePrint feature (essential for using scan to email)
    Touch the webservices icon ()
Enable webservices and touch OK to allow your printer to update itself automatically
Once completed it will print an info page.  If you're looking to complete an ePrint setup it will come in handy later - click here for more information.
Now, if all went well you may rebuild your scan to email setup:
    Touch the Scan icon
    Touch Scan to Email
    Input your personal email address
Retrieve the PIN from your email inbox
Input the PIN in your printer as prompted to complete the setup
Did the above-noted steps restore the functionality you were missing?
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below.

  • Scanning from 5520 to iPad in wireless direct mode ?

I have a Photosmart 5520 printer and a 3G  iPad - without any other computer equipment or WiFi network or
router in the house. The printing from the iPad to the 5520 in the Wireless direct mode works well.
My question is if I can scan from the 5520 to the iPad ? Have looked in the HP ePrint app for directions
or control buttons but can't find any. Is scanning from 5520 to iPad possible ?  Selecting  "scan to computer"
on the 5520 control panel does not work.

    Hello Johan,
The HP ePrint app is a different app than the one I have mentioned above.
The HP Printer Control mobile app is a different one which also allow scanning.
simply open the Apple App Store, search for HP Printer Control and install it.
Through that app you will also be able to scan.

  • HP photosmart 6520 scanning doesn't work

My photosmart 6520 printer was working fine, scanning to computer and printing with no problems then all of a sudden I cannot scan to computer and when I try to scan it puts up the msg No Computer Found. I haven't scanned for a while so when I tried I was surprised it didn't work.  I can print and copy but it will not let me scan. When I go to control panel devices and printers my printer shows up with a triangle with an exclamation point in it. I have tried disconnection the power cord and restarting, I have even replaced the usb cord to the computer with no results. I have even tried to reload the installation CD and tried HP's scan troubleshooter. Everything else works, is this an inherent problem with this model printer? I'm baffled

    7597, welcome to the forums
I understand you are no longer able to scan from your Photosmart 6520. I am willing to help you with this!
I am glad to hear the copies are working, as this shows the printer is alright and the problem isn't with the hardware.
First of all, run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and post back to me with the detailed results from the tool.
I also would like to know the OS you are running:
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
As you connect USB, try a wireless connection or Ethernet connection and let me know if they work.
    Have a great day

  • Photosmart 6520 not printing black.

    Hi @Mtimmer
I see you are having troubles with your black ink.
Please ensure you have completed all of the steps in the following document; Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages. Although I hope this resolves the issue, it might not. As you have a 6520, If the issue persists, I would suggest calling HP Phone Support even though the printer may be out of warranty as you may require a replacement printer. The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
Please let me know if the document resolves the issue, or if you called HP and the outcome of the call. Thanks.

  • Photosmart 6520 power cord

I have just moved and have already matched a myriad of cables to peripherals.....however, the only power cord that is not clear is the one to my Photosmart 6520 printer. I think I was expecting a typical power cable with an inline AC adapter (like for a laptop). But all I can find is a single power cable with wall plug and a two socket plug that goes directly into the back of the printer. Does this seem correct..?
    Thanks..

    Hi,
Yes HP Photosmart 6520 only uses one cable from wall outlet to printer, refer link below for items shipped with printer.
