Photosmart 7520 General Error 0x6100004c plus ink carriage won't move

The printer came up with a General Error code. I followed the suggested page on how to fix it however the ink carriage won't move to the center. I've tried turning it on and off, unplugging the power cord and looking for any obstructions for the carriage but I can't find anything.
Anyone have suggestions??? Thanks!

  • HP Photosmart 5520 Ink Carriage won't move

My husband recently purchased a HP Photosmart 5520 printer while overseas, he shipped in to me in the mail, and it keeps telling me that one or more of the ink cartledges are broken or missing and needs to be replaced, but when I lift open the access door the ink carriage will not move at all and I can't even get it to budge by using my hands, Please help?

You might try doing the reset with access doors closed.  When you plug the power cord back in, you could unplug it once you hear movement in the printer.  Sometimes there is enough movement during startup to unlock the carriage.  If it did move far enough ( I wouldn't force it ), you could move the carriage to the middle and do Solution 4 of the Carriage Jam document.  You could also have a better look on the other side of the carriage to see if there is any paper there.
If that doesn't work, you could try downloading and running the  HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows.  Does that help?

  • Ink carriage won't move

I removed the print cartridge to send someone to the store for replacements. We lost power and the printer shut off. It is now back on, but the carriage returned to position on the right. The printer is giving me an ink cartridge error and the carriage won't slide left so I can replace the cartridges. Please help!

    Hi @Mrsdoolie ,
I see by your post that the carriage isn't moving out, to reinstall the new cartridge. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try these steps to see if it will resolve the issue.

  • Photosmart 7520 General printer error 0x610000f6

i am attempting to print and turn on the printer...it goes through a warm up and then the cartridge holder slides back and forth, making mechanical noise slike it is mis aligned and then  it gives me a General Printer error 0x610000f6 , Refer to printer documentation, Touch OK to continue.  I have tried removing the cartridges (before this...when I opened the top, the cartridge holder would move to the center, that no longer happens and i have to do it manually). it goes through the same process after i push ok...it will nto print and will nto correct itself.  i have tried unplugging it and waiting 60 seconds as well.  Nothing is working.  there is no paper jam.

Welcome to the HP Community , I saw your post about your Photosmart 7520 making noises and how the carriage will no longer slide properly, and wanted to reach out. By your description it seems like there could be a carriage jam in the unit. Please try the steps from the guide I posted for you below to see if they can help resolve the jam. • INK CARTRIDGE PROBLEM CARRIAGE WON'T MOVE 7520

my error is INK CARTRIDGE PROBLEM............. but no matter all attempts suggested( like plug,  unplug , turn off and on.  hp download to scan problems did show the ICP being the issue).   the carriage won't move to the center.  i was in the middle of installiing new hp 564 cartridges.  took out the first cartridge black and i did not have another to fill spot. tried to install old c artridge.  shut printer cover and next i went to open it the carriage won't move to the middle.  ran the scans for testing and all say INK CARTRIDGE PROBLEM and the control board will not allow me to get out of that message to run any tools from the control board.  Please help.................please.  Have warranty but do not know what that will cover if problem cannot be fix.

    Hey there @lynnriley0785!
I would be happy to provide some help regarding the ink cartridge problem error on your Photosmart 7520!  The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues, quality issues and jam issues.
If the carriage is still stuck in the printer with the cartridge problem error then I suggest removing the power cable and trying to manually move the carriage with your hand.  If the carriage moves then remove all the cartridges, close the printer and plug it back in.  Once the printer comes back on see if you can install the cartridges again.
If you cannot get the carriage to move remove the power  and check for any jammed paper in the printer.  I have provided a document with instructions on all the places to check for a possible piece of jammed paper.

  • Officejet 6500 wireless E709n general error 0x6100004c, what does this mean?

Been getting general error 0X6100004C many times now when powering up the printer. Have tried powering off printer and powering back up, still same result. Seems only way to clear error is to remove all cartridges from printer and power it off then back on without the cartridges. The printer then says no cartridges in printer, but after powering printer off and re-installing cartridges, error message clears. Any ideas?

This article should help resolve the error you are getting:

  • HP Photosmart 7520 printhead error

So I bought a HP Photosmart 7520 about 3 or so months ago and about 2 weeks ago I got an error saying that there is a print cartridge error. I could get out of it and print fine but it progressively got worse until whenever I turn the printer on it says that there is a printhead error and it wont budge from there. It will connects to the wifi network because the blue light turns solid and makes the noise, but I cant seem to get rid to the error message. HELP! I contacted HP and they said that there was no printer problem and rather that it was  a problem with my computer and I had to get it fixed. Now getting it fixed will cost me more than it will take me to buy a new printer. I mean I've bought an older photosmart and that didn't break due to software glitching butbecause it fell of my desk. TO fix it I was considering reinstalling windows and going through the trouble of installing everything again or should I change my SSID for my wireless network. Will that do me any good? I really need help and I dont want to have to buy a new printer, I'vehad decent luck with HP products but after 2 months, its pretty sad. I really might switch over to cannon, but I did like the nifty things this printer could do.

Depending on how much money you intend to spend, here is a link on how to replace the printhead -- Check the HP Part Store for Pricing -- I mean if I had changed all the ink cartridges and running the printhead cleaning utility in the printer's menu under Tools didn't help, I would have already convinced myself I was going to buy another printer if I messed this up by trying to fix it versus buying a new printhead, but that's just me. --Here's a page with some suggestions on how to fix it manually-- Just make sure you have the right kind of printhead to try it with. I had a heck of a time fixing my printhead but it worked.  First I tried the method suggested in which you soak it in warm water and leave it sitting over night but 2 days later it was still wet and dripping ink everywhere. So I did exactly what they said not to do and used rubbing alcohol on the tips of cotton swabs (Q-tips) to dry out the printheads then I put the ink in it and ink went everywhere so I got mad and set the printhead outside to dry and it finally did and it worked.  But this took me hours and I was frustrated and already said either I fix it or buy a new one becuase the price of a printhead for my printer was the same as a cheap one at the store. Sorry for the delayed response.  Have a great day!

I tried to update HP Software (hpusetup.exe) : everything is up to date

I tried to update the printer software (HPCOM_HPPS_7520_FWUpdate2_x64_000_001.exe) : it always failed

  • Deskjet 940C carriage won't move

    I have an deskjet 940C.
The ribbon cable that attaches to the carriage (thing that holds ink cartridges) has come loose.
The carriage has moved to far right.
I can not move the carriage to center to recommect the cable.
How do I release the carriage so it will move?
If I can't get printer to work again, how do I at least get the ink cartridges out of the printer?
The printer makes no sound when power is turned on.
The three lights on top right flash in sequence

    Hello katy36,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you Officejet 6700 Premium carriage will not move and you're receiving a message stating paper jam. I will do my best to assist you! Please make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I just want to see if this makes a difference.
Follow this entire HP document on 'Carriage Jam' Message Displays on the Printer Control Panel. This will help to make sure no paper is stuck within the carriage and will provide steps to move over your carriage, depending on how stuck your carriage is.
Generally when the printer is checking devices, it's going into a maintenance. You can try performing a hard reset on your printer for more than 60 seconds. Leave the printer turned on> Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

  • Photosmart 7520 duplex error

My printer has suddenly decided to stop printing double sided.  It has always worked fine until today and the duplex is attached correctly, but I am not getting an option to print double sided on my laptop.
I did phone HP support today regarding an offiline issue, which was resolved by fixing my IP address.  Could this be in any way connected, or is it just a coincidence.
    Help!!
    Thanks.
    Angie

    Hello SingerInBand,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with double sided printing.
You stated that you had an issue with the printer being Offline earlier and it was resolved.  Did you happen to do an uninstall of the software and drivers and then re install.  If so, you could have removed the software that was meant for double sided printing seeing that you don't have the option any longer.

    Hey @cyanobacteria ,
Thanks a lot for the question, now lets get you an answer!
I understand your printer just stopped working out of the blue.
This is very weird, I suggest you make sure the cord is connect in the middle, both ends and then I would check to see if the outlet it is plugged into is still working. Please try all those things. If it doesn't fix the issue at all I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you cal HP Technical Support.

After installing a brand new HP 564 black ink cartrigde, every attempt to print something since installing it, I keep getting a Printer failure report on the printer screen : There is a problem with the printer or ink system. I tried turning it off and on several times. Took cartridge out and put it back in. Searched cartridge well to see if there was anything blocking it. tried troubleshooting it through the Printer itself and from the HP help. tried contacting them but the number given is for a free Carribean cruise..So not very professional. Like I said , after installing a brand new HP 564 black ink cartridge, this started. i didn't get a chance to print anything.  Can I get help with this please?

    Hello Dumbazz77,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the printer giving the error " The print-head appears to be missing, not detected, incorrectly installed, or incompatible".
I do have a few suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with 'Problem with Printhead,' 'Printer Failure,' 'Ink System Failure,' or a '0x...' or a 'C2...' Error M...".

  • How do I get the "non HP Ink Cartridge" pop up to go away??? HP Photosmart 7520

After my trial ink ran out on the HP Photosmart 7520 I installed a non-hp ink cartridge.  It prints fine but EVERY SINGLE TIME I print anything I get a pop up saying I have a non-hp cartridge installed and the quality cannot be guaranteed.  It then gives me the option to shop HP online, cancel the print, or click ok to close it.  EVERY SINGLE TIME.  I print a lot of pages and this is extremely annoying.  There is no "do not show this message in the future" option.  How can I make this stop popping up????

OK, you're receiving this error because of the non HP cartridge you've installed. This message can be bypassed by selecting OK; it will not go away until you install HP ink. Until then you should be able to print.

  • Photosmart 7520 error. there is a problem with the printer. turn printer off then on.

I have a photosmart 7520 experiencing the following issues.
Problem #1:   Randomly all the lights start to blink off and on and the display reads the following :
Error . There is a problem with the printer. Turn printer off then on.
I cannot find any one action that triggers this to happen.
Problem #2:  When the printer is turned on and idle,  also at RANDOM times, the printer will "Ding" followed by the  wireless light blinking. Then what sounds like the cartridges being cleaned, then a sound like the feeder spinning or the print head running full track from side to side, then ending with a "Ding" and then returning to normal.
When this occurs, the wireless connection is disconnected then reconnected. Also this Disables the "Scan to computer" function to all the computers on the network and requires manually re-enabling all .
From what I can tell the printer is restarting itself.
It is plugged directly into the wall outlet, no surge protector.
Tech support has already run me through the clean the print head steps, escalated me up the chain, and ultimately replaced the printer with a brand new one.
THE NEW PRINTER IS DOING ALL THE SAME THINGS AS THE PREVIOUS ONE.
This printer is connected wirelessly to a Netgear N900 router. My computers all running Windows 7, all are on the same network and workgroup and all are running Mcafee Total Protection.
If anyone is or has experienced the same or similar problems, I could sure use some help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    How did you fix this?
I replaced an HP printer recently for a new Photosmart 7520 after a complete ink container emptied into the printer.
The old printer sometimes had difficulties switching it on and the new printer has the same problem.
Also the wireless connection regulary drops and can only be reenabled by switching of the printer and switching it back on, only this sometimes takes more than ten minutes before a simple push on the power button is translated in a power on of the printer.
Since the previous printer also suffered from these "power" issues, I think the problems are power related, but I have to check this first before I can say anything more about this.
